So I've come up with the idea of running a fantasy GE speedrunning league. The league will run from September 1st until November 30th, a period of approximately 12 weeks. Due to the number of active players in the community, the league will be limited to 8 people who will each have a team of 5 players.

Rules

You earn points when a player on your team gets a PR. The amount of points you get is the POINTS GAINED by that PR, NOT the total points that the time is worth.  This means that the most valuable picks are the players who have the most potential for point gain/world records in the coming months. Trading players is allowed, as is dropping players from your team to pick up free agents. All these transactions must be documented in this topic, and will be applied on the Monday following the post. Team owners will be randomly assigned draft order and the draft will follow a traditional "serpentine" style. The draft will take place in the elite mumble sometime during the next week, probably around 11PM EST (TBA). Whichever team accrues the most point by season's end is declared Grand Champion of the FGSL.

In addition to points gained from PRs, bonus points for proven WRs will be added based on Ace's WR tier list, with the point bonuses as follows:
Tier 4 - 50 points
Tier 3 - 100 points
Tier 2- 150 points
Tier 1 - 200 points

Any untied will be considered a Tier 1 time.

Yeah, it is a good idea. If many people are interested, it may be an idea to create some pretty looking league tables and turn it into a proper thing.

I have a bunch of levels I am aiming to get PRs in, but I think i'd rather join a team than create one.

In.  Maybe instead of expanding the amount of teams we can just assign co-owners since the pool of potential picks is relatively small (40 picks is going to include a ton of irrel picks near the end).  I'll take on a co-owner if anyone would like to join me.

I think it'd look better if all group leaders were either senior members that obviously won't play much or high-ranked players. Mirror's team will have an obvious advantage from the start, seeing how Mirror himself has a HUGE point-gain potential - the same can't be said for Goose, Eise or Luke. He should be one of the draftable talents imho, not one of the leaders.

Then again, I might've misunderstood how this whole thing is going to work. If that's the case, nevermind and sorry in advance.

Come: an interesting idea, co-owners, I will see how much interest there is first though.

Ace: I think that's part of the fun. Being forced to speculate which new players have potential, or which old players will come back to the game. Between July 23 and today there has been 45 unique players to gain points. This doesn't even include new players who show potential to get better times within the next few months.

DarkSlayer: Being an owner of a team does not make you part of a team. In order for Mirror to benefit from his PRs, he would need to draft himself. There may be a conflict of interests if Mirror is on another team, but in the end is just for fun so I'm not all that worried about it.

Another interesting addition could be bonus points for WRs/Untied WRs.  Considering in the current format nobody would draft Ace (he has very few points to gain) adding in a bonus for WRs that's just enough to make someone think about someone of his stature in the draft might be fun.  Don't know what a proper balance for it would be, maybe like 25 points for a WR and 100 points for an untied?  That way newer players who get a huge point gain by getting Bunker 1 17, Archives 16, etc don't get too much of a bonus.

But, the advantage of having a pro is that they would make good advisers. They can look at existing runs / times and advise people on what they should try and aim for.

100 UWR, 50 tying an untied, 25pts WR. sounds good - was going to say this in mumble yesterday but didn't for some reason

edit: now I rember why i wasn't confident with this idea; would the 100/50/25 be BONUS points ADDED to the regular point gain from the time? For example, a WR could just be a 6pt gain normally, but would now be worth 25 pts Or, 25+6 = 31 pts.

I would say the latter, the WR points are just bonus points added to the normal point gain.  You could even scale it down somehow based on # of people who have the WR already, something like 100-2x where x is the number of people who already have the WR... so some irrel getting B1 17 gets very few bonus points and some other irrel getting Depot SA 40 gets a lot.  Not a suggested formula by any means but something similar would be cool to think about.

I need some kind of interface to update the teams and their players and whatnot.  Shouldn't be hard.

they're fairly instantaneous for everything i've ever used them for... we use them just fine with 10 people editing at once in a puzzle hunt

if you're really going to hype this up you'll want to have a big enough delay between picks that they can be talked about, entered in the sheet, etc so it won't matter much

Ignore the ugly colors for now, was just separating things for my own use.

All we'll have to change after the order is randomized is the team name in each of the team sheets and it will auto-update on the main draft results page.  Once a pick is entered, it will go to the team roster page as well so people can see their own rosters at any time.  We can also use those sheets for keeping score and then have a leaderboard page that displays results, but that will come later as we have until Sept. 1st regardless of when the draft occurs.
