hi, im new here and im from germany, so dont start crying when anything i ask is really dumb, but is there a difference between the controlstyles in speed??
and is there a difference in speed between pal and ntsc version?
and why cant i reach your times in levels like archives where there is nothing else to do but running? (my archives time is 28 and i never get faster)???
and is it possible that it is my n64 that makes problems, or is ist normal that the game beginns to lag heavily when i throw some more grenades than normal gameplay whould need?
-
28 is pretty good for Dam on any difficulty...
EDIT: Oh, you mean your damn time. Sorry.
-
ohh, sorry i meant my archives time but wrote dam. hmm, my brain sometimes does what it wants to.
and dont mind my language mistakes please

Control style question: There is supposed to be a speed difference while turning between 1.1 and 1.2. 1.2 maintains its speed while turning but 1.1 has a slight slowdown I think.
PAL-NTSC question: Yes. NTSC has shown to be a bit faster on most levels. Someone needs to test this for real though.
Archives question: You're just doing it slow, everyone is at first.
N64 question: Sounds very doubtful...
-
Yeah Archives is more than just running really. You need smooth doors, no stucks, good strafing. That's really tough for a someone new to speedrunning. I mean, I remember trying to beat 23 on that level. And now i have 16
And here's a list with levels proven to be faster on ntsc:
Dam
Runway
Archives
Streets
I might have forgotten some but i think those other levels are just speculation.
-
I remember having a bitch with getting 18. Couldn't get it until after me and Alex shot his room tour vid.
He inspires!
As for any higher than that, I remember struggling with 22 before I joined as well.
-
ok i tried again and again now (didnt play since christmas, because i got perfect dark there, and im really tryin hard to get the cheats, i even didnt play all levels in pa) and now i have a time of 23 seconds.
but i have another question:
is there a list or something where i can see which times result in how many points??
-
Right here, just click on the level you want.
www.the-elite.net/GE/elite.htm (http://www.the-elite.net/GE/elite.htm)
You can have your name added to the rankings, go to the bottom of that page to find out how.
-
Yeah, don't worry about the Archives time. I prob joined the elite 4 months ago and I barely could get 22, 21 even, was out of the question.
Now, I have 19, but 18 is a huge bitch.
Keep at it and you will improve in leaps and bounds.
-
phew that was close, never mind this post though this is just something so I can keep track of when I last time didn't or did, I men it' was notthag it was here but now gone.
I really, just seriously wtf are you looking at d you thinsk I'm some kind of moreionfd or someything it's just that I reall wanted to wtrite but I needed some place to do it and I chose this it's nt you'r fault and not minde either I' don't really mean no harm an later

henrik forgot depot and egyptian on his NTSC advantaged list. Likely statue and control also, then again, likely all levels are NTSC advantaged, except train and jungle.
-
No i didn't. The reason i didn't put them there is becouse they aren't proven to be disadvantaged.
-
depot is clearly better on ntsc.
and so is jungle. it's not ntsc's fault that their users can't aim grenades in places where it doesn't go through the walls.
as for Ilari - play @#%$ DARK LTK or @#%$ OFF already
-
i think ntsc is either = or advantaged to pal on every single level except one
train agent
i say this only because until someone proves me wrong by testing this (extremely easy)
i believe the laser fires at a faster rate on pal then ntsc, resulting in the locks being able to be done faster and easier on pal
this has not been 100% confirmed, but i know a very easy way to find out
load up train. look at the ground. fire laser ill no ammo. time the length from start to finish on each console. which one finishes first? by how much? is it a tie?
only someone with a pal and ntsc can test this, and it would be very easy
someone test it to prove me wrong
-
it wouldn't be only train agent then, since on SA/00 you also use the laser to do the brakes. The difference would be much less noticeable, since you don't spend as much time on the brakes, but it would still be there.
-
I think for SA/00A NTSC would still be better since throughout the whole level you'd gain the time lost on the brakes back. You probably gain time just waiting for Nat to do her thing though probably only minimal if at all.
-
The laser speed = Amount of guards killed.
I haven't tried checking the original speed though, Might do that sometime.
-
karl killed 15 on 106, bryan killed 15 on 108
i think karls lazer was faster still though. go investiage!
i could be wrong
-
i have another question:
do you call it cheating, to paint a crosshair on the tv??? without this, id never hit the lock in dam....
-
I'm not sure it ever was considered cheating.
We like to call that "The dot". There's different kinds you can use but I wouldn't recommend using any kind of permanent paint of course.
I dunno how many of us actually use one. I do.
-
Me too
It isn't a cheat.
-
That's not a bad idea!
edit: Nice english Tyler.
-
Hehe, didn't you know that?
Edit: English mistakes
-
I don't, either does jimbo, i think thats about it.
-
I don't either. I only did when I was a big noob. It only was relatively useful on bunker 1 SA. Like depot? How can you miss a box?
EDIT - None are left. They were like, B1 SA 034, Depot SA 48, Depot 00 114
ROFL
-
Any of your pr's with dot usage? If so, you are a dot user!!! Beat them without to become clean again.
-
The dot is useful on Dam, Bunkers, Egypt and Statue. That makes the Trevelyan shot easier.
-
Dot is useful almost everywhere
Dam - Lock, Alarm, Covert Throw
Fac - Not so much
Runway - Tank Shots
S1 - Locks
B1 - Cameras, guard shot
Silo - Not so much
Frigate - Bug throw, hostages..
S2 - Cameras
B2 - Cameras
Statue - Trev shot
Archives - Not so much
Streets - Not really
Depot - Trainshot, Ammo Dump
Train - Locks
Jungle - Drones, Xenia
Control - First room, guards
Caverns - Random stuff.,,
Cradle - Trev
Aztec - guards i guess
egypt - Barons
really helpful
-
Indeeed! I use a, believe it or not a circimference thingiy where you put on rips on lined paper.
Reinforcement circles!
Just a huge one on my tv!
-
I guess it's not cheating but it does seem a bit dishonerable to me.
-
I don't use it on frigate.
-
How and why would you use it on Frigate besides for the bug throw?
-
i have a piece of scotch tape with a blue marker dot that doesnt come off of my tv. ive come to not notice it except when i play ge, its been on the tv since i got it
-
how do you even do the Trev shot?
It Never works for me
-
Place the dot next to the thing where he comes out behind. As soon as you see him, shoot. That's how I do it and I'm pretty certain I have one of the best percentages of completed Trev-shots here. I cant explain it better
Something that I found the dot very useful for are the locks at Train A, just as Alex mentioned. It made them soooooo much easier. *slaps self for giving out hints*
-
what is the trev shot???
-
Shooting Trevelyan in the chest on Statue to make him talk the instant he reacts from the pain. Saving a max of about 6 seconds.
-
I started using this dot thing today when playing control and found that it's pretty damn tough to get it in the right position. You need to be close to the tv when putting it there but you can't see if it's right until you're a few meters back. Also, If you don't always sit in the same spot, The dot wont be accurate which is very annoying. Anyone know a better way to do this?
-
Start on Dam. Turn so you're facing the stone wall and fire a shot. Put a little mark with a marker or little wadded up piece of paper right on that shot (straight on, so the angle you're sitting at doesn't matter much. Move out so you can just see the first guard and line the dot up with his head. Shoot and hope to hit him so that you know your dot is in the right place.
That's what I do every time, at least.
-
load up PD, and put it on your crosshair
-
You could always just use your mad skills and not use a dot.
-
I use the aim to get dot in the right spot, blu-tac rules for a dot.
-
I think you'll also find that you need to readjust the dot every time you switch between PAL and NTSC.
-
indeed
