@#%$!
My first attempt gave me a screen which was in two pieces (like some of Wouters vids, presumedly his NTSC ones). And despite what was suggested by Ilari, it is STILL black and white in playback, grrr. It wasnt very attractive, but would have served as validation.
But now, it doesnt work at all. It just says "TV system incomptible, recording paused". I'm screwed, because i was playing Streets 00A at the time
Any ideas? I changed the video output setting from PAL to NTSC and it did nothing....
I fear that i will have to try for these records untaped. And it's a shame, because i won't be allowed them untaped - and i dont expect any leniancy. Even so, a harsh situation

Get a capture card and its solved
Well... not really, because I can't tape PAL personnaly if I send my signal through the vcr nothing shows on the monitor. There's simply nothing I can do to tape PAL. So its probably soemthing similar with your case but with NTSC.
-
Shade and Harvey just need to switch homes for awhile, till you get nstc/pal times done.
-
nah, his house is tacky.
-
I was hoping for a post by a PAL player telling me how they personally managed it. Please.

Is your TV NTSC-compatible?
Is your VCR NTSC-compatible?
When you're actually playing the game, do you see colour (and full screen)?
-
NTSC-compatible is no good, it just means it can play back NTSC on tapes. For the VCR you'll have to look if it can actually record NTSC.
-
It was good idea though, Brandon.
-
its a DVD-R, and brand new. It ought to be compatible with all that @#%$. Shame i didnt check. I wont be replacing it anyhow. Now, i DO have a VCR in my closet, which was bought in 2001. It might be compatible, i'll have a look.
If NOT, it looks like i'm screwed, as i don't want to spend any more money. Its hard to properly justify my returning the DVDR to Argos, as theres actually nothing wrong with it, "it just doesnt tape American games console footage"....*assistant looks puzzled*....
The NTSC picture for game play is perfect, just grayscale thats all. But as i said....i DID manage a botched, validation-worthy NTSC effort in tbe beginning. Goodness knows why it allowed it at first....
Wouter.....can you please explain the bar across the screen in your Dam 53 vid for example - thats NTSC, so is that why the bar appears? I had the same bar, except it was RIGHT across the middle

VCR is a Hitachi VT-MX110EUK....says "NTSC playback" on box
does that guarantee recording success? I dont even have any tapes, lol. I'll nip out tomorrow and seize some

NTSC playback means it will play NTSC tapes fine, but not record them.
As for the DVD player, check the manual that came with it. Look through settings for a System mode or something. Mine has options like PAL, NTSC 3.34, NTSC 4.78, Auto. Auto is fine for me.
Other than that, talk to Illu. I know he's made some runs using DVD players with perfect quality.
-
my system mode setting is either NTSC or PAL....i tried changing to NTSC, but did nothing. Arrgh this is all so annoying
-
oh and also....i'm currently trying to split a DVD chapter to isolate a particular run. But the split function ran up to 98% complete, and has stayed there for 40 minutes. There is little sound from the player, unless i go up real close. Any ideas?

grey vids are ok. for the bottom to get it like mine, just fastforward slightly and play again, eventually it will work. if not, you'll miss the top part of your run.. and I don't guarantee it to be allowed for proven, it can be fixed easily as I just told how.
-
I think my runs just had the completion times visible....but this was when the NTSC reception in my VCR was really bad, with the line etc. Playing NTSC through the DVD is perfect quality now, a the expense of recording capability. Weird @#%$...
-
And the saga goes on.....
I got it working, just by @#%$ around, i managed to get a signal barely stable enough to be taped. The DVDR accepted it
The bar is 60% of the way down the screen (tropic of capricorn of my screen
), and the bottom eighth is fuzzy. The mission time is visible....this IS validation worthy, definitely. I will tape with it
-
now you just have to find out how you log into AIM again so you can share videos whenever you make them.
-
Once a video is made, the DVDR is SURPOSED to allow me to chop it up. But that function just doesnt work. It gets stuck on 98% and when you power off nothing has changed.
So, i will have to transfer hours of footage onto my hard drive and extract the run that way. But when i put the disc into my laptop, the vids arent playable.
WTF?????????????
how do you get computer vids from these CDs???
