Title: How`d you hold your pad
Post by: Saint Shang on October 18, 2005, 09:32:00 pm: Hi i know its a noob question but im a noob so that`s why asking . It`s fine for 1.1 but 1.2 it`s quite hard if only because it knackers the fingers . I tryed using just the d-pad, but its kinda awkward, and using just the c-pad busts the fingers, i try an merge the two, using top c and the d-pad for sidestepping. Ive been in a cave for a few years so haven`t come across any other Goldeneye players, but ive been reading about 1.1 and 1.2, and alot of players use 1.2, so ive tryed it to see if it`s faster for me, but alas, im too used to holding the pad this way and transfering my style to suit 1.2 isn`t easy. So basically how do you hold yours? (the controller of course ). And is there any difference between using the d-pad and the c-pad (as in speed strafing)? When going through the posts people refer to the c-pad, so i guess they don`t use the d-pad. Hope this post makes sense.

I musta evolved my pad style over 100,000 minutes into the mutant freak weird style it is today. What do you mean its ineffiencent?Trying to get used to the "other way" is kinda hard. Which finger presses the B button? I seem to stall when opening doors. Suffice to say its gonna take me a while to learn a new way.

Post by: Wyst3r on October 19, 2005, 01:05:00 pm: It's not easy to learn normal 1.2 method but it is great when you finally do. For B button most poeple use the pointer finger bent over the thumb. This might seem difficult at first but after a while your hand will get used to it.

Brain aint sendind signals to the finger to open the door, it justs stays there . Its times like these that i wish i had 4 arms and two heads. By the way has anyone tryed using the 2 controller setting with 2 people doing the controls and got a good time? It must require some good communication eh?

left hand - normal
right index - left c
right middle - top c
right ring - right c
right thumb - A + B

Thats how I 1.2 Its a lot easier (for me at least) to get used to, then the 5 button thumb play. Thats how I got Runway 23 SA.

Left hand i use for:
Thumb: Start, Joystick, A and B.

This is probobly common for some 1.2 users. NOT to use the "alien finger". My Right Hand does the C-buttons, R etc.

Here's the wierd thing in my 1.2 style:

I use my Right Long Finger to shoot (Z). I can use the alien finger, but im not very good at it. I have big hands but its harder to do it when your long finger is on the shoot button . I have a vid of it somewhere. I think Axel has it. I'll ask him later.

This does lead me to wonder about the D-pad though. Its purpose is the same as the C-pad, and in theory, one should be for lefties and one for righties. But why is it a full moulded cross, rather than 4 buttons? And why does everyone use right-hand on C-pad and left-hand on stick? I'm a leftie, so the left hand on stick, right hand on Cs makes sense for me. But all the righties seem to use the stick in left hand too. Bloody nightmare!!! Its like writing with your weak hand. If i swapped, i could probably get 2.00 Dam A (if i was lucky)

If im crosshair aiming i usually use right hand finger and thumb. Just haven`t got to grips with strafe shooting at the mo.
