I thought this would make a good topic for everyones best legit fails, dyeing doesn't count, since there is no way to tell what the time would have been. Also list what part you failed. Don't list times you failed but now have.
My best legit fails, that all could have completed.
1: Bunker 1 sa 26 - last camera missed.
2: Silo 00 1:40 - plastique skipped on ground.(landed upside down)
3: Frigate a 25 - hostages
4: Frigate sa 1:07-1:10(too many times to count) - hostages and also using new strat.
5: Frigate 00 1:13-1:15 - hostages + new strats.
6: S2 a 53 - coms link damage(almost)
7: s2 sa 56 - coms link damage(almost)
8: s2 00 137 - everything completed cept for getting a nade on that run.(killed the guard though) Also 1:41 were i missed the mine throw at end for heli.
9: Streets 00 1:56 - Left val just tad to early, thus failing, kept going, 6/0 boost ratio.
10: Depot sa 47 - the mf's/"a", no train shot either.
11: Depot 00 55-57 - either the dump or the mf's screwd me over. No train shots either.
12: Jungle a :54 - a drone or 2?
13: Control a 4:06-4:14 - Nat is a hoe
14: Control sa 4:31 - see above
15: Control 00 4:44 - Missed last mf with the mine.
16: Caverns sa 1:25-1:29 - "e" for most of them prolly
17: Caverns 00 1:51-1:54 - "e" for the 151 and "c" for 152.
18: Cradle a 37-38 - console
19: Cradle 00 41 - suicide stat for trev, missed console(3 bullets hit it) Prolly something for cradle sa, but don't remember.
The best for last.......
20: Aztec a 1:42 - yes, i @#%$ missed "a" prolly cause i got shot at the same time i went for it, i knew i had missed it though when i checked at 2nd pause. Finished with a sweet run, only lost 2 secs at glass and mf in drone room. Was at 1:48, when i failed this. Sucks to see such a huge timecut not count.
Thats all for me, that i can remember without a doubt, im sure i had some gay facility fails, but don't remember them.

You should add about 4 seconds to that time. In my excitement of finally making it as far as I did, I forgot to plant a bomb in the last @#%$ fuel room.
Would have been more than 40 seconds off my current time.

I don't get it. The tanks didn't complete. I threw 4 mines for them. My only guess is that only 3 of them blew up and they didn't get enough time to blow up the tanks.

While i was shooting it i got shot a few times and deciced to give up and run to the end. So yea, I "beat" the level but didn't get last camera.

Just had a phat run on Aztec 00A. Did beginning well, glass opened, completed objective A. Vents were OK. I went out to the main room, failed putting the tape in. I survived, went back to the vents and aborted with a 1:41. So this was definitely a sub 2:10 run.

Got one mainframe blown up though i didn't get any shots into the second one(4 in first). Fastest possible trainshot(killed a guard so Obj d completed immideadly which cleared the path to the train.
I'm seriously going to try for this time when i'm done with all other levels.

Depot SA 0:44 is like the shittiest record ever. 44 speed is normal for me practically every run, and I often get 46 with a missed train shot. I'm surprised this is still the WR, someone like Bryan or Wouter should definitely get 43.

I would get 43, but it took like 3 hours to get obj A to complete once. This level is like another Cradle 00A except you have to go like mid-36 speed to get the 43. I know it's a lame analogy.

This was so insanely close to completion, but Nat died even though i had a very nice rescue. This run was so @#%$ insane, Even got a boost in the end. I'm gonna make a vid of this.
Edit: This wasn't as insane as i thought, Had some backboosts and minor stuckage. Still good though. Vid is available in my getfile

39 on pretty much every fail for 3 hours. Yesterday i got 5 completions in 20 minutes(3 of them were 40's with 1:0 boost ratio that should've been 39's imo).Now 3 hours and not a single completion
Silo 00A 1:48* Death (Came within 10 minutes, After like 5 hours in total yesterday)
Now where did i die? Had 1.5 bars at satellite room(Got BA), Paused in front of 2 guards and like 5 behind me, Survived, Took picture, paused in stairs for Plastique, Got shot, Survived, Ran through Ouromov room, Survived, Were just about to take the turn towards elevator....Died
Also got a hella lots of deaths before satellite room.

FULL health in third room, But the @#%$ scientist didn't drop the dat so i had to go around the room twice to get it. Then the guards OF COURSE blew up the gay thing so scientists died and obj failed. Since it was a failed run i didn't get ANY hits in silver crate area(This ONLY happens on failed runs). Got stuck on a guard on my way to satellite and decided to pause there, Got shot a little and easily survived ending with like 2 bars left.
Now if that wasn't gay enough, After that this happens:
Had a great run on my way to satellite. Took picture, Had 2 bars left, A guard shoots me(The maximum damage by guards in Silo is for fucks sake 1.5 bars, Usual damage 1 bar) and i die!!!!1
Then i get ANOTHER run where the scientists die in third room on a healthy run.
This level is so @#%$ retarted.

Just my luck, when I was crap (I mean really crap) at control I got a good Nat and ended up with 4'27 (my current PR
). It hasn't happened since and i've had the level down as low as 4'17-4'18 (although i'm sure that this run was faster).
Oh yeah, I made vids too!!! of depot and train. Train is half decent ( A 122) but depot is not (A 30!!!!!!!). Hit me up on AIM if you want to see the sh1tness that is me. AIM - durrkmeister.

Agent is so much nicer since there isn't much luck to it compared to SA/00A. I don't see why you still favor the grenade method over the shooting-guns-at-same-time method.

It's almost a year since my insane 2:21 Aztec 00A so i decided to try for an extremely insane 2:20. Ended up in 3 deaths in vents and one run where i barely got shot at all in big room but missed the launch thingy.
Maybe i'll try again next year.

Try right strafing to the mainframe,(trents idea), it worked great for me

You should try my Depot 00A strat(it's on the strat central).
I can guarantee it's very easy, Just requires some patience. I used to think the level was impossible but with this strat i got 55 within an hour or two.

Depot SA 46 - this one was really annoying. MFs blew up, successful train shot, good strafing......i misssed the fu<king key. Talk about bad luck :-\

I played real LTK for about an hour and got a few nice runs, but then I decided to just go through and see what a fast time would be. Oh, my 3:36 was taped, y'know.

S2 SA :56 x 5 (with nade throw completed)- mine never completes ever. except the one run where it completes and the warp didnt work(first time it didnt work in the 3 hour session) and i get 57 cause this level is gay and hates me

Runway 40-42 fails cos I keep missing the drone guns (i hit the missile every time nearly).

don't worry, if you get the no fog glitch somehow (like I did. . . )it'll be really easy.
It just takes time, but since you're 1.2, you could save time and drive the tank backwards.
Is the drone that's hiding in the corner behind that bunker that's giving you problems?

About .25-.5 seconds.

Durk, use the mountains(don't be looking for the drone on the left/far back) to aim your shots, look for key spots to aim for and then its just learning what angle to fire it at. Practice with cheats on to get it right.

i recommend point and shoot method. i doubt u would fail 39s with normal strat anyways

Played like 30 mins. Scientists failed. I shot drones. Were kinda lucky in Obj B room cause a grenade killed most guards coming down. Also had a radio room death with all obj's completed. I guess that's enough GE for this year. I may un-whoard some gay pd stuff sometime too.

This level is so cakey. With old strat i get like 1:13 every try and with brandon strat, 1:11 without problems.
1:14 is easily GE's worst wr.
Also got lots of nice 25 fails on Agent
Btw, I got Josh's strat working 3 times in a row(getting one of the hosts escape very early consistent). All of them ended up in 25 fails so this can for sure be useful.

I don't think you have a right to say 114 is the worst WR having 128. The luck needed for hostages to get away that fast is insane.

Plus, I don't believe you get 1:13 every try with the WR strat. Make a vid of that 1:10 or a 1:12 with old strat.

Well basicly every try that i actually finish. I usually quit out runs where i get stuckages and bad parts.
And yes, 1:14 hosts does require fast hosts but i suppose 24 on agent is way more insane luck then that. Btw, I've been thinking about an additional strat that's 1-2 secs slower but makes it a bit more consistent(1:14 is surely possible).

You won't be getting 114 speed from that very easily I can assure you. I guess if you use Brandon's strat after you might barely get it at best.

You have to go into the bridge room anyway to defuse the bomb, so what's the point of freeing the hostage at any other time other than when you get there for the bomb? He's pretty cooperative as far as hostages go, too.

The reason is to raise the chances of completion a bit.
Brandon, What you do is to shoot very low in the most left part of the window. The guards head will be there so headshot = Dead = piece a cake(If you're good you wouldn't even have to stop while doing this).
Btw, If the engine one is the slowest guy, Why not save him first? Like, warping pipes, rescue him, defuse, 1st branon strat host(backwards normal strat), 2 agent hosts, throw bug from far away, Rescue bridge, Defuse, finish.
Maybe it could have a chance on 1:27

The reasons i'm not taping:
1: I have a new tv where the vcr doesn't work.
2: The vcr does work on the old tv(Old = the tv the rest of my family uses)
3: I only play GE in evening when i'm bored.
4: In the evenings my parents is using the "old" tv.
5: Meaning i can't tape when i play in the evening.
6: 1:15 sucks.
So it's not that i don't want to tape, I can't unless i start playing full time which i wont as long as i'm busy with other non-gay games.

Aztec is so gay. On pretty much every try i get runs similar to my 1:40 but without stuckage in end, Still i get like 1:44 on them. And now when i tried my own strat of running out and kill guards on left then straight for the door, I got killed with 10 secs left by a Super fast shooting moonraker guard. I somehow got a 1:41 death scene though(This run was way faster than my 1:40 and still would end up in a few secs slower).
For some reason i found SA easier to do than Agent, And 00A easier to do than SA.

Not timewise, I can easily do that again(And improve it). SA was kinda fluking since i was only going for 1:50.
Edit: Dammit, I just got a great run on Aztec 00A, Pretty healthy too. Though i got droned 3 times before big room and had a slow glass there. Then not far from the vents i got killed. This run probably had a chance on an untied
(not sure though, haven't watched the tape yet).
Edit2: @#%$! I had an excellent run(Aztec 00A) but i missed the @#%$ upload cause of getting shot too much. Had a 1:26 Pauseout inside the vents...

When you first go by that door after leaving the cell (assuming you use WR strat), you kinda have to look in there a bit, and make sure that door is closed by using plenty of lookdown in the cell.

I think Brandon told me that even if the door's open, you can close it as you run by and you'll still be ok.

Not to be redundant. But what Bryan said, gotta look in the window almost at the safe guy. Then start shooting once you pick up the document. The first guy you see will be the safe key guy.

yeah, closeing the door(if its open), seems to work nice, i was about 50/50 with him being the first person comeing out of the door after the document pickup. Alot of times i didn't make enough noise and he was still in his spot.

Also had another death on one of my healthiest runs ever. I had 3-4 guards in the tunnel on my way back from radio room so i got killed when i was going to destroy the drones.

Fac sa 57? Not really, I did the run like I always do, I open the door, whip around, and fade out. It could have most vertainly been a 1:00, possibly even 59, but I doubt it. The end screen showed 57, so I'll mention it here.

Yeah my 00 times and a lot of my SA times need a lot of work, especially Caverns and B2. As far as the No Jaws strat, yeah, I do know it, but I can never get it to work
I can get to the black room without TOO much trouble, but things always seem to go sour when I try luring the guards. I havent tried it much, which is probably why I havent got it working yet.

How can you get 58 sa so fast, and not be able to "cake" at least 59 00, hell it should be 58 "caked". 00 isn't that much harder at all, prolly the easyest switch from sa to 00/same amount of objectives in the game.

I never cake times. Almost all my pr's are results of 5-10+ hours of playing. That 58 on SA took about 8 hours to get even though i was mostly aiming for a 59.

Had a run that was really nice and i was just hoping "come on Doak, Be there now". To my suprise, He was there!
Everything went fine until i was gonna throw the first mine, Of course i miss it(Right strafe sucks)!
I keep playing while hating myself for that and then like 20 mins later i get one of those runs again where Doak is there. I hated myself so much from last time i was determined not to @#%$ it up this time. So i pause in front of the door, Gets boosted like a meter away. Of course i thought, No problem, Just a little bit of right strafe and then decode it.
So what happens? As i press "Z" i get backboosted...Of course game doesn't react to my button pressing. I run back again and press "Z" again...Backboosted again!
Cavs 00A was a breeze compared to this...

Yeah I know Henrik... I remember I was even trying for 1:50's on PAL with a reasonable hope of actually getting them, so if NTSC is that much faster then 1:50's should be "cake". I guess I'll have to try it properly, but in 30 minutes yesterday, I was only doing 1:51 speed on runs which I'd have thought were probably good enough for 1:51 on PAL, which made me wonder how big a difference there actually was.

About 40 minutes of play I managed two 0:49 depot SA fails without trainshots and one 0:48.
I'm told the train shot means 2.x seconds saved and 0:47 is a 75 point time, which would be a little different from the 0 pointers I have on, oooh.... 58 of the stages.

I didn't know you could shoot the 2nd camera from the other side of the hut like that... that could be easier to do maybe than from the 1st camera side.
EDIT: You'd also be in left strafe to prime up the nade without having to do a dumb strafe change.
We should be doing the tree line all in left anyway as hard as it is.

I've tried what you were talking about, Bryan. It seems quite a bit harder, but that might change with good practice. And it's funny that you mention strafe changes... in a level that's about 20 seconds off the max, we're worrying about a strafe change.

It makes complete sense if you consider that not all the boosts are the same (like how solid they boost in the right direction) as well as not being exact on the strafing.

Guard threw a nade which i heard bounce just before the bug throw. The nade exploded behind me on the way out = forward boost. It's hard to control, but good when you get it right.

Actually no, Im playing PAL. I never tried Train on ntsc, But maybe it's time to do so. The reason i didn't before was becouse i started playing PAL and it seems like it takes a few sessions of playing before the game gets a good frame rate. Just another theory of mine but at least that's what my carts behave like(It was the same with PD).
Anyways i'll try my luck on ntsc and see if 1:43 gets any easier...

1: I miss the safe and guards kill me.
2: Same as first.
3: I complete safe but train guys came early and blocked me beneath the stairs.

5: Slow roller door, A failed.
6: Everything complete but a mother @#%$ guard kills me just as i enter the train.
All 6 runs at 53 speed.

Is it just me or is this a level where anything can go wrong? Usually if I get the GL, I will get backboosted by the guards. If these guards are OK, I'll miss the safe room door (a bitch of a door) and If I do that OK, I'll miss the Grenade shot or get stuck on a guy after the computer power down. I should be easy getting at least 154 or less. What the hell is up with this level?

I don't think the Agent strat for SA is anywhere in the near future however, 53-54 can be done with the "easy" throw where you don't spin and aim carefully at the right spot. I think that's what to try for before any more difficult stuff that only Wouter would try seriously anyways.

106 was possible with old strat right? Nobody has gotten 102 new strat failed with saveing the bridge hostage. But im sure somebody will or its possible at least. 109 and 110 are not that bad with the old strat imo. So 105 is fairly decent.

why would fail be any different than complete? if failing worse than 1:04 is bad, completing worse than 1:04 is bad too, since it should be easy to consistently get 1:04s (using your logic) and having it complete at least once.

To be honest, I don't even think 104 would be superb when it comes to the elite's WRs. I don't know how many people have tried this new strat, but at least 4 people (myself, Dan, Alex, Wouter) have failed 104s with what I believe to not be WR effort put into it. I'm guessing Eise must have failed 104s, Henrik could easily if he tried more, and likely every other decent eliter could do it.
I joined when this new strat was being used so I don't know if 107 was super or not with the old strat. The best I've ever done is 114 so for me at least it seems great. If people ever put as much effort into the new strat as they did the old, I think 101 is probably maxed.
But how about this?
Defuse the engine bomb, do the warp with the defuser still out, diffuse the bridge bomb. Whip out your gun and kill the ho taker before he kills the ho. I know its doable because I've done it. You have to kill him the current way anyways, so I think this is automatic 5 second save.
That brings is to 56 seconds right? Even if the hostage doesn't get out, waiting 3 seconds which seems like its enough if he's fast like in Wouter's 106, should be enough. Making 59s realistically doable in my mind at least.

I think 103 completes will be a bitch, but someone will prolly get 102 someday. 101 seems out of reach, unless the slow hostage(the 4th one you save) can escape fast, and you just skip saveing the last hostage.

Funny you of all people should say this, considering it was you that persevered through hundreds of 23 fails on agent until finally completing one. If fails weren't different from completions, you were wasting your time. So I ask this question: which is better on Frigate SA... a 1:06 completion or a 1:03 fail? The correct answer should be a 1:06 completion, since fails are just fails and don't count for anything whatsoever on the ranks. Yet, don't even fucking try to deny the temptation to feel as though a 1:03 fail is better than a 1:06 completion. After all, 1:06 is a pretty weak record and the only thing that failed 1:03 was random luck. Even then, 1:03 isn't particularly great either. What if you were failing legit 1:02s... 1:01s... 0:59s... would you still value a completed 1:06 over that?
That's a matter of opinion, some people probably would and some people probably wouldn't. This only strengthens my argument, which is that Frigate fails should be held to different standards than Frigate completions.

I would easily rather have completions than fails. Once I keep failing a certain time, I know what time I was going to fail. So then there's no point of failing anymore. I wait until 1 sec before my PR and hop in. I was failing many 106s and 107s, when my PR was 114. So I started to wait, and I got the 110. Even when I got 26 agent, I was failing 25s. So I waited and hopped in at 26.
With the gayness of frigate, its likely that 103 fails had 104 hostages and gay things like that. Thats enough for anyone to wonder if they should have waited when they fail a time 2 seconds or more better than their PR on frigay.
Sure its cool to say you failed a 102 or whatever, but once you do it once, whats the point of doing it again?
The only thing I will admit to is that it is tempting to hop in, get greedy, and hope for the best. It's just not the smartest thing to do.

it's no different than runway sa 23, where if you fail the battery you fail the 23, and else you complete it. once you start failing it, I haven't seen anyone stop playing runway sa before getting 23.

Ok, since Wouter and Alex say don't wait by the boat, and they're the best at frigate, I guess its gay. Maybe its my luck, but I've never had the hostages escape in time on SA, I always have to wait.
But what if a new guy came along, and had frigate A 35? He played a lot and got good but never played frigay due to its gayness. Since he's good, he consistently failed 23s and 24s. Are you saying he should wait 100+ hours doing that, instead of 1 or 2 hours of waiting at the boat for a 26 or 27, eventhough many guys find 26 perfectly OK?

Basically, YES. I always find if you need lag just sway the control stick back and fro. Do this as you are going up the stairs. If there's an explosion, you will get through like a knife through butter. If not, look right, then left while strafing into the pipe. The 102 had the latter way.
Any level where you need lag, just sway the stick back and forward. I do it on jungle, S1 and other crap.
I think there's an obscene strat like low 50s if you can do the reverse warp with the defuser. The hos would have a shot at escape too. I don't think the warp is doable though.

The diffuser warp is not too hard. I've been able to do it before I joined. I thought everyone knew to get lag and warp though.

Yes. My 4 102 fails were 2 pause strat.
I only did 103 with the current 3 pause strat once, and no one has ever done 102 with 3 pauses yet.
I'm sure I could do 101 with the 2 pause strat, maybe 100 or sub.
I read some old boards and whats up with paragon pimping out a 59 fail pre-pipe warp? Did it ever actually happen?

Ah yes, Paragon's old 2 pause strat...But i haven't got any idea what it was. There are tons of strats with very low potential but no possibility for hosts to escape. So don't take the 59 fail too seriously.

I timed some of the 2nd basement hostages escapes. Fastest he did was 52. He can probably do 45 but no lower. This strat won't work.

I thought you were doing a 2 pause run for 102s and lower, plus after doing the bridge bomb, you would be able to still kill the hostage taker?? That isn't what your doing?

1) After agent hostages, go downstairs. Kill 1st taker, skip 2nd. Defuse bomb, warp pipes, diffuse other bomb, kill taker quickly, finish.
Best I got here was 102. The 1st basement hostage, I only timed 3 times so far, he takes 40-50 seconds, but I think he can do less. You release him at 32ish seconds, so you would him to escape in 30 for complete. Killing the brige guy from outside always gives 6 second escape. From inside, the best is a bit more. This one has a chance of working.
2) Kill both basement hostages, diffuse bomb, warp, diffuse other bomb, leave. I got 101 and 100 here on just soso runs. You release the last hostage at around 35 seconds and he takes 50-100 to escape. So no way this works

#2 won't work, anyone could have told you that. if it ever would, the chances are probably worse than for agent 23.
Saving the bridge hostage from outside does not always get him to escape in 6 seconds. I tried it once on PAL, and he got out his fastest only on the 5th try. (then stopped trying)

I knew #2 wasn't going to work, I just thought it was cool to have failed a 1:00 "legit"
If you kill the bridge guy from outside, on the deck, near that missile on the front of the boat, he gets out often in 6 seconds.
If you do the current strat, kill the bridge taker, look away from the hostage and pause, and then never look at the hostage again, his chances of escape become much greater. For whatever reason, looking at him affects if he will escape quickly or not. He either takes under 10 seconds, or over 30 seconds to escape. Never in between.

I never said he doesn't escape often, in fact I would tell anyone asking me what his chances are to escape fast, is that that chance is a good one.
think about the tracker (tracking?) bug. once it gets out of your view it fails. I think the game just unloads the object. Perhaps the hostages can "escape" in other spots than known due to this? Or at least make it more likely for them to use the first (and perhaps closest) spot they encounter.

a "legit" frigate fail is bombs defused, bug attached, 4 hostages released. 004 is just a plain "fail"
You're either lucky, or you're comparing the bridge bomb escape to 23 hostages, because I just played the level for 25ish seconds, only releasing that hostage and defusing the bomb.
I did this 40 times. He escaped 5 times.
1/8 odds is not a good chance, imo.

how can you call a fail legit when it is impossible for the 4 released hostages to escape in time? if it's impossible than it doesn't even rely on luck anymore since it's just a fact it can't complete and will ALWAYS fail. therefor it's not legit, or a 0:04 would be just as legit.
As for the 2 pause strat, I tried it several times, and I couldn't kill the bridge taker and release the hostage in time. There's so much lag everytime from the engine bomb on to the finish pretty much, it doesn't even always register when I press A to change to my gun, then I got shot every single time so far screwing me up, and even when the gun got out and I shot him immediately (no delay anywhere except for the always present lag), he'd still kill the hostage. So how about.. you get a run showing how its all done on tape, including the warp without changing weapons (having the bomb defuser out). I tried to swing but only a boost from a guard would get me through. Did I mention how much lag I experience yet? I'll just go back to the strat I used for 1:06.
on another note, I got the door to the bridge bomb room open once.

I'm terribly bad at opening the safe.
A question: Are the doubledoors quite random? For me they are open at a considerably low percentage of my runs, and getting 57 with closed doors will be hard.

Yeah the double doors don't open every try and try running straight forward at the safe from the side (instead of opening it in left strafe, if you're not doing this) while pressing B, I found that easier. Watch one of my 0:57s if you don't know what I mean, or Dan's 56s, I think he opens the safe that way too.
