Title: How do you get a fast surface time?
Post by: Lark on September 23, 2005, 09:45:00 pm
I could really use some tips for this level. I strafe the entire way but i still get 1:28 seconds. Please give me some pointers.

Surface 1 ? - Agent im guessing
If its this one, you can chose either sniper strat or KF7 strat. I always try to get a KF7 off the guard in full strafe, if i miss ill just do sniper strat. Download the videos, practice shooting the locks, and play, play, play! Practice really helps.

ok im gonna try to pick up the kf7. That should shave off some time. I can only get 1:28 though *sigh*

If its the surface1, which is the one with the blue sky, just stafe all the way to satelite dish and do the obj, then shoot locks off in end, you should get at least sub 1:20 in one night. :)

If you're still having problems then zoom in on every lock, Should still give you like sub 1:15.

Are you using 1.1 or 1.2? If you're using 1.1 you should be using cruise control.

I think newbies to cruise control won't like using it for the locks..

Yup.
If you're 1-1, well you'd better try 1-2, at least for that one, it's pretty basic and the locks aren't too hard with 1-2, even if you're not used to it.

It can't be a good thing either to just jump in to using 1.2 (by this we mean Controller style 1.2)
It take practise of course to really get used to it. What I did was just go without strafing at first, then threw it in to the mix as I rounded corners and whatnot. A good stage to practise in would be the runway. When you get better, practise in the archives. Then when you get really good, tackle the missions.
Shouldn't take more than two days tops.

The best thing you can do right now is switch to 1.2 style controls. Not only in the end is it simply easier to use, but you'll learn you can TURN faster, and it also saves your control stick.

Watch vids, memorize our lines taken to the building; and make sure you look down as well. There's polygons I can point out on my trip to the satellite that guide me / tell me whether or not my line is good enough for say 1:05. All practice.

speed-strafe = sqrt (run^2 + strafe^2)

JIMBO....why is 1.2 easier to use?  You have to hold down 2 C-buttons at once to strafe, and to change strafe you have to swing your thumb horribly, retaining pressure on C-north whilst swapping from east to west.  And the other thumb is on 'stick patrol', so....how do you press A and B in the midst of all of this?  I'm imagining it on Runway agent, holding down the grenade as i enter the hut, and somehow doing all the required strafing numbers in light speed.  Man, I need a third hand :lol

It would be WICKED if there was a 1.2-cruise analog available, but for some reason you cant tape down the C-forward button and get it to always go forward.  When you restart, you dont move forward at all :\

But also.......despite Wouters gay remark about me being stupid to have bought NTSC....everyone says Runway SA takes a boost less.  Maybe i should be NTSCing this beast.

Harv, on 1.2, to press A or B while strafing + using the stick, you use your right point finger. It goes over your right thumb. Takes a while to get used, but it isn't hard at all.

Yep, The famous "Alien Finger" method.

OUCH!!!!!!

Well....its 1.2 for a reason.  They put the Honey controls as default because only fucktards would NOT want to use them :rollin

that finger stuff sounds impossible!  I'm imagining the start of Facility with that.  Door, Door, Door, Door, shoot Door, press, Door.....WANK!  impossible.  I'll be 1.1 or nothing.  I'm not back for a serious assoult anyway, i just wanted to have a flutter ;)

*wonders, given the above statement, why he bought NTSC*

Believe me, it is not hard after you get used to it ;p
