Title: Frigate Agent
Post by: flukey lukey on September 16, 2005, 11:43:00 am
ok, im sure this has been discussed to death, but how on earth are you supposed to get good times on this? I just made a 0:33 after waiting 5-7 seconds for the hostages to get their arses off the boat. Usually i have to wait much more... so i end up with times like 50 and 45 seconds. Ive watched wouters vid and its pretty similar to what i do; just less 'stuck' mistakes.

Is it just me, or is there someway of playing that will get the hostages rescued faster? Please help me out because this level is really annoying me! cheers:D

There is a reason frigate is called frigay. It's extremely rare that the hostages escape mid 20's, So yea it's just luck.

By far the gayest level on GE/PD together.

Play it a good bunch of hours to get a fast completion (25-26). But you'll probably miss the bug on that run, so try a few more hours and you'll have it.

I can't remember for my 25 and above completions, but for 24 (and 23 when it comes), I first had obj A complete when I missed the bug. It's like an unwritten rule ;)

Thanks, i am playing it now and get around 27 seconds fail! I guess i will have to play this an insane amount of times to get a time like that though :

I think I only needed to play for most 2h for 0:27.. when I got 0:25 a few days ago I only needed to play for 50min so you never know.

50 minutes for 0:25 makes me want to puke. I spent 2 years (and around 195+ hours) getting my 0:25, obviously the range is huge.

If you're hitting 27 runs constantly and your PR is 33, I would wait at the bottom of the boat for 1-2 seconds and then jump in if no hostages escaped yet.  If one hostage escapes, just run right in like normal.

With the luck on this level, a 27 fail, maybe had 28 hostages.  My 27 was actually a screwed up 25 run, where I missed the ramp, then the hostages got out.  If you get fails way ahead of your PR, slow down a bit after freeing the hostages.

I had over 50 25s and 24s with 1 hostage out when my PR was 28.  It makes you wonder if I would have had 25 or 26 now if I waited.:| I

So basically, if your constanly failing 27s, aim for a 29.  Do it like that until you have a 27 or 26 PR.

Nah. I'd run straight to the boat. Sooner or later you will complete with the time you're failing.

I guarantee with 200 hours of play, Jimbo had a 24 fail where there were 25 hostages.  Its completely random.

Why would you play 200 hours for a 25, when you could play 10 hours for a 26, just by waiting 1 second?

You can also have a 25 escape and a 26 completion because you waited the obj. to show up on the screen.

Both 25 and 26 escapes are rare (second one is less rare, obviously), so I'd rather play straight for a 25, considering it isn't hard to get constant fails of that.

But if you'd be really happy with 26, go for it :p

I think the hostages can be either very slow or very fast, of course there's some pretty fast and pretty slow too but, ok hope you get what I'm saying or something.

I mean if you get fast hostages then they'll probably be very fast, ah whatever I can't explain stuff properly at the moment but maybe this was a.. ok I just stop writinbgsns

Holy @#%$, I had no idea I could bypass my internet block at work and write messages, huzzah!

In response to that guy asking why I didn't just go for 0:26, is because 25 was 10 points more, and it would be unacceptable for the 3rd ranked player to go for such a crappy time. (Yeah yeah 25 sucks too, but it's still decent points)

I never asked why YOU wouldn't do that, I said that If I'm consistently failing 25s, that I, Myself would rather wait and get 26.:p

YOU, is a generalization of everyone, especially towards newer players with low points on the frigay.

lol!!!  I remember reading on the PD forum that Bryan's PD file ran up just 30 days (720 hrs) for him to become l33t champ!  Youve used a quarter of that time on Frigate? lmfgao :rollin

i've never found the hostages to be *that* bad.  I'd expect a 25-sufficing escape about once ever 4 hours maybe.  Hmmn....

Brandon, I exited the level at 25.99 every single time. Sometimes I'd wait nearly 3 seconds I swear.

Sorry if I wasn't being clear, but thats what I was trying to say.  Wait so you will exit 1 second better than your PR always.
I still would have had 28s if I didn't screw up and "accidentaly" wait by missing the ramp, so waiting until 1 second before your PR, is what should probably be done on this level.

Jim thinks he knows the concept of time. (not sure if I say it right)

how do you time, though?  Do you have a stopwatch?

Theres two ways:

1) learn the music

2) figure out how many mistakes you made and how bad they were, or how good the run was

I can tell my times just from #2 on Surface 1, Archives and Frigate.  Just play the level a lot and you will get it.

oh of course.....been away far too long >D

i learn the music.....its how i knew my Facility PRs definitely, also Dam.  Frigate....yes, but it was very sporadic for some reason, maybe i sometimes watched like .1 of the cutscene by accident.......

;)

Wouter doesn't care whose first by the end of our lives

He doesnt care what we say, and doesnt give a s.hit about our input.

We should all go @#%$ ourselves for putting pressure on him, because at least he's all for reaching his full potential, people! :b

yeah, all those tactics are ever SO precise to determine 25.99 from it, with several having close to 3 second waits (thus being low 23s without wait). yeah sure.. I'd probably have 21 next time I complete it, judging time like that.

you can know it to within a few tenths.  Apart from that, you could have one of those wafer thin alarm clocks in trasparent perspex (how ther f**k do those work?), and hang it down over the corner of the screen.
