Title: NFL Discussion, Bets, and Picks Analysis (by Shep)
Post by: Ngamer on September 04, 2007, 11:32:00 pm
We're back!  Time to sign in and get your picks made for the opening week of the NFL season.  As always we're doing a very simple straight-up winners (no spread) pool hosted from ESPN.  Don't be afraid to join if you're not a football expert- it's all in good fun, and often those who claim to know the most end up just about doing the worst.

Start here: games.espn.go.com/pigskin/frontpage (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/frontpage)
Sign in, Create An Entry, and make all your picks.  Then Join a Group, and Search for
The Elite
our pass is elite
---

Also, don't feel like the season is over if you miss a week of picks this year!  Shep is going to be running a seperate set of rankings that takes wins each week into account instead of just total correct picks over the full 17 weeks, and missing a few games there barely hurts you.  Shep's also making a comeback as our Results Reporter for 2007, and will post winners and commentary every Tuesday morning.  What a guy!

Speaking of proud traditions, let's continue with another: post the two teams you pick to play in the Superbowl this season, and which of them will win.  If you want to go all-out and predict more stuff like who all will make the playoffs feel free, but the SB pick is the main thing I'll keep track of- should be a good laugh to go back and see what we thought 17 weeks from now!

EDIT - Just for fun, here are last year's predictions:

(actual result was Colts over Bears, for non-Americans)

Ngamer - Broncos over Giants
Bcks - Seahawks over Colts
QB - Colts over Cowboys
Shep - Panthers over Colts
Neo - Colts over Panthers
Come - Colts over Giants
wiff - Broncos over Cowboys
mikers - Seahawks over Broncos
wheat - Steelers over Cowboys
DarkHawk - Cowboys over Colts
PDO - Bengals over Bears
Jimbo - Panthers over Bengals
pack - Colts over Panthers

No Bears love, though PDO came closest there.  Plenty of Colts support... but what was with all those Broncos and Panthers picks?

My prediction from last year was...

"I was going to say Colts over Bears, but...as much as the Cowboys make me sick...I'll have to predict...

Colts over Cowboys!"

Edit - I'm worried about looking back at the end of the season and seeing that I made a minor mistake again, so I'd better change this up and get serious!

New England over Philadelphia

P.S. New England will beat Jacksonville in the AFC Championship game and Jax will go at least 12-4 this season, winning the AFC South and earning a bye.

Ah, perfect.

people will be able to sign up after thursday but it will just mean youll be one behind the rest (but level with qb and jimbo) after the colts win.

This is very odd about needing to be 21. We've had around 40 entrants in previous years and i dont recall this coming up once. Of course this doesnt make any practical difference and everyone should still sign up. Maybe there some prize or so this year that has an age limit?

Dear Bryan Youse,

My source deep within the Canadian Football League administration has informed me that an opening has recently appeared in the Toronto Argonauts' 2007 home schedule.  With regards to your team's self-confidence, you would perhaps be well advised to forgo the remainder of the NFL season and play the rest of your games north of the border, rather than in Philadelphia.

With regards,
~N

Well done, and well deserved.  [The reference here is that I mentioned off hand in chat the other day that any team that can't stop a 4th and 26 play (see GB/PHI, end of game, '03 playoffs) should spend the rest of their time playing the Toronto Argonauts].  Still, why no ragging on QB or *looks around*, Mark Jones?  What a joke of a game that was, for shame!

... I think Bears can still rest easy being a game back of everyone in their division... Minny and Detroit played joke teams, and GB had no semblance of an offense all day (Defense was so-so, the Eagles' low point total had as much to do with their own mistakes/penalties)... SIGH!

Also, on a separate note:  Wheat, I guess you CAN count on a ton of touchdowns from that minny defense every year?  Hahaha.

i am so glad the chargers beat the bears and that superbowl MVP rex showed why he shouldn't be starting

and i'd just like to show the raiders game footage of the new england game, so they can narrow down where they went wrong last season

Post by: youseinthehouse on September 10, 2007, 01:08:00 pm
Rex didn't play badly at all and he should still be the starter.  His lone interception was more Berrian's fault than his.  He gave his team a chance.  You can't do much offensively when your top back fumbles twice and your backup fumbles on top of that.  He was keeping the team in line to score points, they just didn't represent.  (and the SD defense is too good).

Now now Youse, I've been to each Packer game this year, that Defense is something FIERCE, which was the probably the biggest reason the Eagles didn't score more points. Harris was out for a while, and that also happens to be when McNabb got his touchdown with Uvant (spelling?) I can't offer any positives for the Eagles, mainly because I hate them oh so much, it's just nice to get a win.

Next week, the Packers face a weak NYG team where Eli could possibly be out. Greg Jennings (#2 WR) and Vernand Morency (Other RB besides Jackson) will be back, so the offense won't be nearly as bad as it was vs Philly. Also, the Packers / Favre play a ton better on the road then at Lambeau, so expect maybe 2 or 3 TD passes out of the man! The Packers could start a roll here, they're already on a 5 game winning streak, so if you don't mind, I'm going to go touch myself to that thought and fine tune my fantasy team!

heh, I made my bets earlier in the week.  Only went 2-2 though (yay texans) [actually biggest bet was on Oakland to win one of their first three games--looks like I'll need Cleveland to suck majorly in two weeks (ugh probably will have to hedge it)])  I pretty much cleaned up at college football this weekend however (I had almost every bet against the big 10 and all but two (had nevada ML as the big upset that almost happened) came through.  (*checks bets* also took Min Atl under and wondering why I didn't put more $ on that) liking the shift in line tonight for Ariz as well.  [edit2 of course instead of taking Ariz +3 1/2-- I took ML and they [censored] me at the end... sports betting is so damn frustrating]

How about those Jags Q?

Eli's out at least a month but I'm guessing it's more like 2 months.  NYG is in big big trouble.  (not as much as Atl/KC at the moment however)

edit--Also, I don't think NE's going to be allowed to cheat anymore youse.

rex is the chicago version of kyle boller(who i hate more and more by each play)

the problem is he very rarely keeps his team in the game. he can't even hold onto the snap, when he does, he either over, or under, throws his receivers.

the only thing he has going for him is that he is a tough bastard

lol at NE cheating... they ought to get their rings cut off of their fingers.  You always KNEW they weren't that good, talent-wise, for how good their defense was.

Jim, are you kidding me?  The pack D was fine, but wayyyy too many offensive mistakes.  Dropped passes, badly thrown balls, and penalties did us in WAY more than anything you guys did.  However, if you want a bright spot, it certainly isn't the offense, so feel free to be happy about your defensive performance...  Harris wouldn't be covering Avant anyways, so that play wouldn't have been any different.

Without any bias, I think that the Eagles defense played better than GB.  A much less rested unit, what with their special teams giving the ball back after a stop TWO different times... holds you to three field goals, TWO of which were pretty much unavoidable after turnovers already in FG range.  Consider your offense to have created three points on its own.  Yeah, yeah, I realize you guys won, so this is all moot.  Good job.  However, BAD JOB in fantasy lolz!

also lol at people eliminated from survival already!  (now that I say this I sense a week 2 downfall for me)

Post by: TheLegendaryPSR on September 11, 2007, 12:02:00 pm
i'm still in survival but think i should've picked the pittsburgh game

i was happy to see the packs win but only because i said to a workmate that they would've a good season and he didn't believe me. i'm actually a lot more partial to philly for personal reasons(the same reason i'm a ravens fan actually)

some poor officiating in the ravens match cost us, as did boller playing, as did mcgahee having a terrible first half and not much better second.

i watched the first 20 minutes of the 49ers game, saw how much it sucked and then went to bed.

currently 1-0-0 in both of my fantasy football leagues, helped mostly by my opponent trading me LT.

chad johnson's celebration - well overhyped

Elite Pickem

Weeek 1 is out of the way and despite several upsets many of the elite group managed to score very highly in pickem. Jax and the Eagles losing was just ridiculous.

Lets see how the table looks:

1 Esox Magnus - 14
2 Moo Moo Farm - 13
3 QB's Square Picks - 12
Octo's Picks - 12
picks of wheat - 12
darthrob64 - 12
PerfectLight - 12
Boss - 12
milano collection RB - 12
PDO's Perfect Picks - 12

A fantastic start by the Ngamer household although once again Jon is left trailing in the wake of his mor(e) astute relatives. 14 picks is a very high score indeed for Ngamer dad, as is drag's 13 picks to land an uncontested 2nd place. A tie for third between many of the heavyweights. Several out of this group will expect to challenge for first place by the end of the season. PDO in particular did well to recover after picking the Saints.

Jim vs Fal - Excellent start by SZ who manged to pull 9 correct picks together and take a 1 shot lead into the second round as Fal ties wiff for last place with 8.

Elite Spread Pickem

1 Moo Moo Farm - 11
2 Team Angle - 10
Ptown Boners - 10
4 Boss - 9
5 DarkHawk's Picks - 8
ngamer whackers - 8
Topes - 8
Neo's Aussie Picks - 8

Spread pickem proved to be a tougher challenge in week 1. With the absence of the Ngamer family in this competition drag was able to assume top spot with 11 correct picks, 2 less than normal pickem.

Elite Survival

We said goodbye to two genuine contenders this week as Boss and Clark were undone by Jax and Rams respectively. QB unsuprisingly also dropped out having backed Jax too. Presumably he felt this was Jax's best chance of winning a game this year. Which fills me with optimism for that Colts series. Overal Seattle was the safest pick and the one most took. Steelers also did a lot of people well whilst Jon and Octo scraped through with the niners.

Eliminated: Boss, Clark, QB
Still in: Come, Team Angle, boss killers, Octo's Survival Picks, Neo's Aussie Picks, matt8000 ftw, mikerspd manhandlers, mostfrantic, Better Than Ngamer, Ptown Boners, Ng's Supersurvivors!, Moo Moo Farm, Topes, Kelly Rules, Crossbow of Paradigm, Milano Collection RB, The Immortal Ones

Dont want to feel worse after week 2 than QB does now? then...

dont forget those picks!

Everybody still in Survival should go for Jax this week if they know what's good for 'em!

I think Colts kind of seemed like the safest pick last week. I was about 50/50 on picking them but I guess I got too caught up in showing my Jax support! Seattle seemed like a bad pick, imo, but I don't think very highly of them.

Edit - To be fair, I also didn't know Jax's kicker would be injured in pre-game warmups, resulting in 4th and 10 attempts in FG range. :lol

I agreed that seattle wasn't as much of a lock as some of the other teams (I definitely had colts, steelers, and patriots (and eagles, d'oh) losing under no circumstance)... but I figure seattle's surest bet to win this season came against the Bucs.  It's all about not wasting teams who are genuinely great by picking teams who are O.K. (Sea) playing teams that have nothing going for them (Bucs).

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 2

Week 2 was pretty horrible all round. Some monumental upsets meant we would expect last weeks leaderboard to be flipped upside down as the jokers got their awful picks rewarded. Lets see what happened:

1 PerfectLight - 13
Din Mor - 13
wiff's ownage picks - 13
4 picks of wheat - 11
The Immortal Ones - 11
sucram - 11

Well no suprise really. The presence of Jim and Wiff in the top3 for the week says it all. Jims picks were utterly horrendous and its quite staggering how well he did. Serial underdog backer Wiff joins him in the top 3 along with PL. Somehow these clowns got 13 correct. Wheat, AJ and Sucram managed a respectable 11. I'll let Sucram and AJ off, but wheat should know better really!

Jim vs Fal - Jims excellent week puts Fal to further shame and thus opens up a 2-0 lead in this hotly contested battle for pride.

Elite Pickem - Overall

How has this madness affected the overall table?

1 PerfectLight - 25
2 picks of wheat - 23
3 Esox Magnus - 22
Din Mor - 22

PL is a big mover this week capturing the number 1 ranking with 25 picks and a huge 2 point lead over that man wheat with 23. Jim is inexplicably in a tie for third with the more credible Ngamer far on 22.

Elite Pickem - Win Table

New this year is the weekly wins table. This gives any late starters or forgetful noobs like goose the chance to compete even if they miss a few weeks of picks. After week 2 we have a four way tie with 1 win for:

1 Esox Magnus - 1
PerfectLight - 1
Din Mor - 1
wiff's ownage picks - 1

Elite Spread Pickem (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem/23987)

Elite Spread Pickem - Week 2

Finally I think we may have found something QB is good at it. The guy simply has no ability to pick at the money line but throw in a spread and suddenly it all starts to come together:

1 QB's Pro Bets        - 11
2 ngamer whackers - 10
3 Topes        - 8
4 Ptown Boners - 7
Ng's Superspreads! - 7
Clark Kills - 7

Elite Spread Pickem - Overall

Overall the table is looking like this:

1 ngamer whackers - 18
2 Ptown Boners - 17
QB's Pro Bets - 17
4 Topes - 16
5 Moo Moo Farm - 15

Elite Survival (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/survival/5257)

Elite Survival - Week 2

Two more dropouts this week as Milano And Come both incorrectly backed the Bengals to carry them into week 3. Jax was clearly the way to go but suprisingly there were a lot that risked it all on that horrible horrible broncos team. 15 are still alive, who will be eliminated this week?

Still in: Team Angle, boss killers, Octo's Survival Picks, Neo's Aussie Picks, matt8000 ftw, mikerspd manhandlers, mostfrantic, Better Than Ngamer, Ptown Boners, Ng's Supersurvivors!, Moo Moo Farm, Topes, Kelly Rules, Crossbow of Paradigm, The Immortal Ones
Eliminated: Boss(1), Clark(1), QB(1), Milano(2), Come(2)

SZ's got a point there. In fact looking at his picks--they were solid picks.  Like every pickem contest you need that upset pick or two to come through.  The only pick I thought that you could consider bad (although I did bet on the texans and yet didn't pick them :(  ) was Washington and they came through for him.

Hey... Yahoo had some problems or something, and my survival pick didn't go through for the week.  Luckily, I had this conversation with a niners fan last night on aim, proving who I "picked".  I'd still like to continue survival, I'll just do it in this topic:

(08:54:31 PM) Bryan: your niners
(08:54:37 PM) Bryan: could kill my survival this week
(08:54:40 PM) Alex: are going to lose
(08:54:47 PM) Bryan: hopefully
(08:56:35 PM) Bryan: rumor:  vernon davis unhappy with role this season
(08:56:40 PM) Bryan: duhhhh
(08:56:54 PM) Alex: haha
(08:56:57 PM) Alex: put up some #s
(08:57:00 PM) Bryan: the whole @#%$ offense should be unhappy
(08:57:07 PM) Bryan: you guys are 31st in pasisng ypg
(08:57:15 PM) Bryan: 32nd in total ypg
(08:57:18 PM) Alex: balla
(08:57:42 PM) Bryan: anyways i'm picking pittsburgh at home vs SF in survival
(08:57:47 PM) Bryan: you guys better not shock the world
(08:58:05 PM) Alex: pretty safe
(08:58:18 PM) Bryan: safest i can see
(08:58:23 PM) Bryan: dont' want to waste patriots yet
(08:58:35 PM) Bryan: i would say eagles vs detroit is the safest
(08:58:37 PM) Bryan: if this were preseason
(08:58:44 PM) Bryan: but i'm honestly afraid detroit is going to win now
(08:59:02 PM) Alex: yeah i would be

I'm so relieved that we played our hearts out and didn't get beat by a last second McCarthy / Favre mess up that 2005 and 2006 have been littered with. Even everyone in Green Bay had this week circled as a loss and we would enjoy all of week 2 being undefeated for as much as it was worth. After this performance, and coupled with Favre getting the TD record (and NOT getting the INT record yet) makes me believe the Packers have a real chance at going deep in the playoffs. We've beaten 3 teams that made the playoffs last year and remain 3-0, this week is gonna be fun that's for sure! We go into Minnesota next week, let the trashtalking begin! Packers are gonna rip apart that stupid team like the little girls they are! 4-0 baby!

I'm saving teams like IND and NE for when there are no other attractive picks OTHER than them.  Last week, I did get lucky with Denver, but Den over Oak was a much safer bet (before we saw the outcomes) than NE over SD.  Clearly, this week, Pitt was as safe a bet as NE.

Hell, the patriots might go undefeated this year.

2nd week in a row where chicago get all the decisions in their favour. pass interference calls, roughing the kicker, half time.

a half finishes after 30 minutes, NOT when chicago turns the ball over.

I'd rather go for the easy picks myself, but i understand your reasons for not picking them.

But i do disagree on one thing - Steelers over 49ers was not as obvious as the bills losing against anyone :)

I had a heck of a week doing spread picks.  I am 13-2 going into the MNF game with my only blemishes being SD -4 and Baltimore -9.  I placed significant bets on:

New England -16      W
Philadelphia -7         W
Indianapolis -5         W
Pittsburgh -9           W
Baltimore -9             L
Jacksonville ML        W
Dallas ML                W
Cincinnati +3.5         W
N.Y. Giants +3.5       W
Miami/NYJ Under 35   L
Detroit/Phi Over 44.5    W
Seattle/Cinci Over 50.5  L
GB/SD Over 44             W

:D :rollin

Glad to see GB off to their fast start.  I didn't think they would be able to beat SD, but I guess Norv Turner already destroyed that team.

ugh a lot of "just covers" in spreads this week--glad I didn't bet on what I picked on yahoo lol.  (sun+mon night games I took the dogs so I ended up with a small gain after the big hurt the lions put on me earlier (and yes I feel stupid on them) [had Ariz or Det won I would have been golden lol])  [didn't take Jax in either pickem or spread for some stupid reason]

*tallies it up*

I'm stunned--a +3u weekend on NFL despite royally blowing it on the lions.

In summation
week 3 overall (including O/U's)  9-7 +3u.  (to the novice a u is a betting unit.  like if Q normally bet $20 on a game $20 would be his unit.  It's pretty standard just to say units rather than $ in the sports betting world.

ugh, seems like I've lost week 1 data so no overall :(

Well I took a risk in fantasy with the holt trade for MJD knowing the difference between Holt and McDonald for the rest of the year would be little hoping MJD would come back and I think I just made a giant trade bust.  (and with two of my starters getting hurt this fantasy season's already going to hell)  I probably could have waited and gotten a little better value for holt though.

Anyway, I thought it would be neat to look back on my preseason bets regarding Season Win Totals, and they look so good in the earlygoing, that I thought I'd share them here. :b

(Keep in mind that if a wager says "Over 7 Wins", as the first one does, that means that 8-8 or better wins the bet, 6-10 or worse loses the bet, and I would receive a full refund on a 7-9 record.)

Tampa Bay - Over 7 Wins - Risk $62.50 to win $50.00
St. Louis - Under 8 Wins - Risk $110.00 to win $100.00
San Diego - Under 11 Wins - Risk $62.50 to win $50.00
Philadelphia - Over 9.5 Wins - Risk $70.00 to win $50.00
Oakland - Over 5 Wins - Risk $80.00 to win $50.00
New Orleans - Under 9.5 Wins - Risk $50.00 to win $50.00
Miami - Under 7 Wins - Risk $50.00 to win $55.00
Kansas City - Under 7.5 Wins - Risk $72.50 to win $50.00
Jacksonville - Over 9.5 Wins - Risk $100.00 to win $80.00
Indianapolis - Under 10.5 Wins - Risk $52.50 to win $50.00
Green Bay - Over 7.5 Wins - Risk $100.00 to win $145.00
Dallas - Under 9 Wins - Risk $200.00 to win $240.00
Cleveland - Over 6 Wins - Risk $115.00 to win $100.00
Arizona - Under 7.5 Wins - Risk $105.00 to win $100.00

and a few player props...

Warrick Dunn - Under 1235 rushing yards - Risk $120.00 to win $100.00
Torry Holt - Under 10.5 receiving TDs - Risk $60.00 to win $50.00
Reggie Bush - Under 1.5 punt return TDs - Risk $55.00 to win $50.00

I have

Buffalo under 6
Atlanta under 7.5  * pre vick news*
KC under 8
Ariz under 7.5
NYG under 8
Dal under 9
right now 5-1 is looking almost like a damn lock on those.
*hmmm Q's actually not on the opposite side of one of these for a change*  (pretty surprised I didn't take NO under as that is EXACTLY my type of bet ugh)

player props
Dunn under rushing (EXACT same bet as Q)
Leinart under passing/pass TD's
Edge under rush TD's (this was bad but I bet this before my brain kicked in on why Leinart wasn't going to throw as much as last season (wise is a rushing guy) doh)
a bunch of other unders that would take me too long to post.

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 3

Week 3 was about as normal a week as you could expect from the NFL. Well normal in every case except for those horrible Packers! What we didnt expect was who would be heading the weekly table!

1 Kelly Rules - 12
2 Mike - 11
mikerspd - 11
picks of wheat - 11
Woll - 11
Ng's Superpicks! - 11
Boss - 11
darthrob64 - 11
QB's Square Picks - 11

After an atrocious week 2, none other than Kelly Rules was the best picker this week with 12. In a massive tie for second theres a virtual whos who of Elite Pickem, all of whom made 11 correct choices.

Jim vs Fal - Jim with yet another shutout to go up 3-0 in the series. Fal must be terribly embarassed at this.

Elite Pickem - Overall

What does this mean overall?

1 picks of wheat - 34
2 PerfectLight - 33
3 Boss - 32
QB's Square Picks - 32
darthrob64 - 32

PL had a less than satisfying week allowing wheat to not only close the gap but take the lead with 34 picks and a 98.9 percentile! Nevertheless PL is still in the early running just 1 behind on 33. The trio of Boss, QB and myself share in a tie for 3rd on 32. Despite the week 3 domination by Kelly Rules he is still all the way down in 25th! (and yes he has picked every week).

Elite Pickem - Win Table

Not much is changing here on this leaderboard. After 3 weeks theres now a 5 way tie for 1st. If you havent started pickem at all yet this year (Clark) or have missed a few weeks (Goose) then here is your incentive to get back on track!

1 Esox Magnus - 1
PerfectLight - 1
Din Mor - 1
wiff's ownage picks - 1
Kelly Rules - 1

Elite Spread Pickem (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem/23987)

Elite Spread Pickem - Week 3

A three way tie at the top this week as yet again the totals are lower than non-spread:

1 Boss - 9
Clark Kills - 9
Milano Collection RB - 9
4 DarkHawk's Picks - 8
Come - 8

Elite Spread Pickem - Overall

Spread pickem is proving to be very competitive as overall we have a five way tie for 1st:

1 Topes - 23
Ptown Boners - 23
ngamer whackers - 23
QB's Pro Bets - 23
Boss - 23

Elite Survival (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/survival/5257)

Elite Survival - Week 3

Another two gone this week as Chicago screw up Fals survial and the Redskins undo the omnipresent Kelly Rules. Youse moves onto the Babysitting list as Yahoo 'did not register' his Steelers pick and so he now requires constant surveillance (Next weeks pick MUST be in this topic or IM'd to me by the time of first kick off or you move off babysitting into eliminated).

Those with slightly more credibility survived by picking the Ravens or the Pats. Drag however took the Pants. I know wheat in particular was bitterly disappointed to have wasted the Pats this week and understandably wishes he'd taken the Ravens.

12+1 Remain. Who will be eliminated this week?

Still in: Team Angle, boss killers, Octo's Survival Picks, Neo's Aussie Picks, matt8000 ftw, mikerspd manhandlers, mostfrantic, Ptown Boners, Ng's Supersurvivors!, Moo Moo Farm, Topes, The Immortal Ones
Babysitting: Crossbow of Paradigm
Eliminated: Boss(1), Clark(1), QB(1), Milano(2), Come(2), Better Than Ngamer(3), Kelly Rules(3)

Most of those bets look pretty good except dallas under 9. They are clearly the class of the NFC which I thought before the year (they are my superbowl pick from the NFC) and they should easily surpass 9 wins this year.  The rest of them seem pretty good though.

Oh, and after MNF I finished 14-2 spread by taking Tenn +4.5.  I placed money on them ML however.  Best week of betting on NFL games EVER. :rollin

Same, I mean, look at the Giants last season...

You're going to need two Eagle victories over the 'Girls to have a chance.  And those are the only specific matchups I truly care about every season.  All other games, I root for the W, but could care less as long as the record ends up playoff-bound somehow.  So, let's make you 200 bucks!

i can't wait for the cowboys to face the giants so they can beat the living @#%$ out of eli.

the problem they will have is against the eagles since mcnabb can easily expose roy williams main weakness(playing deep)

baltimore need to leave ed reed playing as the deep safety and not landry. just because laron can play that role, it doesn't mean dawan can too

i've gone for the 49ers over the seahawks. i don't know why :)

Baltimore was (as the game showed, and was my opinion before it started) way too close to pick, and I didn't trust Pitt over SFO enough to pick them either.  You're going to have to pick NE in the first ~8 weeks if you want to win at the-elite, so why not pick them when they are a 15.5 point favorite?  Its not like BAL and PIT wont have equally weak opponents to gobble up in the next 5-7 weeks.
Title: NFL Discussion, Bets, and Picks Analysis (by Shep)
Post by: youseinthehouse on September 27, 2007, 01:21:00 pm
Pittsburgh over SF was very trustworthy... The niners offense is absolutely horrendous (2nd worst in the league YPG).  You knew they weren't doing ANYTHING major against that stingy, punishing pittsburgh D (2nd lowest YA in the league).  Throw in the fact that it was a home game for the steelers and imo easiest pick of the week.

I don't follow the logic that says you have to pick NE in the first 8 weeks to win?  Also, I don't know how aware you are of NFL schedules, but NE and Buffalo play twice a year.  What's more, NE gets to play the Dolphins twice still and the Jets again.  Trust me, saving them ain't a bad thing... if you're wise about your alternatives.

[highlight to see... AFTER you've selected your pick!]
Pick I'm locking in this week (for now):  DALLAS.

Yes, I hate them.  I want to get picking them out of the way.  If they somehow lose on Sunday, losing survival would be a small price to pay for the joy I'd have.

Note:  CLOSE CALL with picking Indy this week.

So far, I've used SEA, DEN, PIT, and DAL.

Let's say you pick Balt over Arizona every week.  According to the odds makers you should be done on average by week 5 of survival.

In the case of buffalo vs NE it was week 14.

NE won't likely be a bigger favorite this season against ANYONE.* Not miami, not the jets again, obviously not at buffalo.  (who do they play in the NFC this year anyway?  the west or east?)

I just don't get the logic of saving teams for later when you MOST LIKELY WILL NEVER PLAY THEM LATER!!!

I may not be "aware" of NFL schedules (and of course I am) but I'm certainly aware of mathematics.  (and btw without even looking at that schedule at least one probably two and possibly three of those games are in december which both of us aren't likely to be in)

According to the oddsmakers Dallas vs St. Louis is the biggest fav however Dal is obviously high on betting and STL is obviously low right now so I'd say that it might not be actually the biggest one.  Even SD vs KC doesn't seem that great to me either and both are similar choices this week.

*of course NE could start the unbeaten talk (usually happens around week 5 or 6) then every joe blow will bet on NE thus potentially against an awful opponent moving the line way too far but realistically not likely.

as for pitt over SF being very trustworthy had the game gone like Balt's did would you have said the same thing? (they basically were the exact same game odds wise)

edit found this gem under my prop bets

Rex Grossman (CHI) - Total Passing Yards
(2007 Regular Season Stats Only) Must start the first regular season game. No Parlays. Max $100
(9172/9173) Under 3205 (-120) Sep 09/07@12:00p
Risk $75.00 to win $62.50

doh--I could have risked more!

To answer the question about the pats and the NFC...they have the east.

I should have figured this out because the Dolphins/Giants match is over here but I had to cheat and look at their schedule. :D

Week 6 - Cowboys
Week 8 - Redskins
Week 12 - Eagles
Week 17 - Giants.

This league is usually over by week 10, from my understanding.  That is why I said use NE in the first 8 weeks.

Picking 70% to win games 10 straight weeks gives you a.. 3% shot at winning the pool.  But we've got way less than 33 ppl, so that's a bad way to play against the average, IMO.

wheat - I wasnt' even addressing you.... we haven't been having a dialog about this recently!  I was talking about octo's post directly above.  I know octo follows football a little bit less than you, so I wasn't sure if he knew about inter-divisional play schedules.  (Although it's ridiculous to think that Pats will kill the Bills any less b/c of location).  The fact is, the niners/pitt game DIDN'T go like the arizona/baltimore game.  Arizona has weapons at WR the Niners could only hope to have three or four drafts or FA signings from now.  I don't make my picks based on odds, in fact I never look at them (unless of course I'm betting, which I am not this season).  I could care less how many points Vegas is giving Team X, a process driven largely by current betting patterns and all that @#%$ that has little to do with actual matchups/conditions/etc and more with emotions/current records/etc.  Even still, how will NE not get at least 10 points vs Fins?  Week 7.

I'm playing for a perfect season.  To me, that's a more fun goal than to win some pool of 30 dudes.  Some risk early can lead to great reward later... especially if risk is minimized, like I've been desperately trying to do.  Maybe one of these weeks, one of my "surefires" will get upset.  That's NFL.  Pats/Colts could lose any given week as well.  You don't have to subscribe to my style or even believe it will work.  That's the beautiful thing.  If I lose, you guys get to be like LOL YOU WASTED NEW ENGLAND ROFL.  So why are you complaining?  Do you WANT me to play better in your eyes, and perhaps win?

I've looked at the schedules for most of the top teams, and have a lot of ideas for the next few weeks lined up already.

If I were playing for 16 weeks, I wouldn't have taken NE this previous week - I just don't think it was a "wasted" pick is all.

if the survival league was for $ do you really think I would have said anything?

Lol at perfect season quest.  You do realize how often you're going to accomplish that right?

"quote from youse Although it's ridiculous to think that Pats will kill the Bills any less b/c of location"

although I'm definitely a high proponent of not believing in home/road advantages as much as others they do exist and I'll make any decent wager with anyone that Buffalo won't lose as much at home as they did at NE.

edit--I hate this week. In the forums I frequent (not just this one ya know)--last week the morons all took Balt/Pitt and this week they're evenly split between two squads I'm evenly split on taking.  Ick!

Yes, I'm not saying I have any kind of good chance at a perfect year.  I'm just saying, that's what I'm shooting for, and I'm making my decisions accordingly.

Before this week I was 24th in the Fans of Arizona(I'm not an Arizona fan btw) league. Brought in Dwayne Bowe (doing alright-ish:rollin ) and Dallas Clark so as you can imagine I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself.

I hope Arizona blow this in the last 4 minutes. It's bad enough I'm out of my other survival league because of Atlanta.

or why they continued to do so after he almost broke 2 for TD's earlier (before breaking one later).  Only Norv Turner's been smart enough not to kick to him so far.  (hester does fumble a lot but still damn)  Despite the lack of discipline (with god awful penalties) horrible QB, horrible RB (benson can't break one [censored] tackle (I haven't seen him break one yet btw--not a joke)), WR's not catching the ball, and the secondary starting people I've never heard of they still should have beaten detroit.  They still should beat Green Bay next week.  If Griese doesn't throw all of his 3 horrible INT's this time (slash horrible throws that didn't get picked) they probably will.

As to why they kick the ball to Hester it's purely stupid ego and football has a lot of it.

benson broke a few tackles in the opening game. in fact, they had quite a bit of trouble bringing him down on a few occasions

the bears, the way they are playing at the moment, will not beat green bay. logically, and as you are a fan of one of the teams, logic doesn't apply(that's not a personal shot at you BTW :)   ), they don't stand a chance at the moment. of course they will win now i've said that... :)

right now i can't see the bears making it to the playoffs. unfortunately, can't see the chargers doing it either.

watching the nflnetwork's top ten plays(Which i do first thing when i wake up on a monday...afternoon) hosted by the great deion sanders, i only have one other thing left to say...

"OSI!"

Jimbo--the oddsmakers will make GB a pretty good fav and the squares will bet on GB making (thus I won't be betting you straight up) what I think should be a very profitable bet on chicago next week for many reasons.

A) Chicago can't throw 3 absolute crippling INT's every week (theoretically)
B) Favre usually throws at least 2 against chicago and GB has the rushing attack of a gnat.
C) Green Bay isn't as good as their record
D) Chicago isn't as bad as their record
(record or perception)

The only question I have regarding the game is the fact the defense keeps getting worn down in the fourth quarter--Det scored the NFL record 34 (20 wasn't their fault though) on them in the fourth.

Or just go against the public--the last three weeks everyone said SD, Balt, Denver were "locks".  I'm hoping and thinking it'll be GB this week.

btw--two years ago chicago started 1-3 and finished 11-5 winning the north division.  They've got GB, Min and Det in the next 4 weeks--so we'll know for sure if they can come back after that.

Maybe I'm just royally mad they keep losing games they should have won even despite the QB.

A) You're forgetting about the fumbles
B) 1. just because it happened before, it doesn't mean it will happen again(a mistake so many sports journalists makes) and 2. Yeah, Green Bay's running attack is crap. However Chicago's strength is their run defence(watching the games you notice that the pass D is not all that impressive), so that means that GB's strength is going against Chicago's weakness
C) Yeah they pretty much are. They have played pretty well in all their victories
D) Yeah they pretty much are again. The team is barely one dimensional and, even then, that 1D is their return guy and, like last season, have had a habit of throwing away games that they were winning

They played horrible against Philly because the team simply wasn't in sync for the opener, that quickly changed @ NYG and they kept that going.

1. They're 4-0 against damn good teams. They beat San Diego which in turn beat Chicago.
2. Our running attack will be much better come Sunday Night.
3. Brian Griese is gonna be throwing to a mean ass defense.
4. Favre is having a career year. If our O line can keep Shawn Merriman absolutely silent, keeping the girls in Chicago down will be easy.

the bears pass defense was a heck of a lot better than the rush defense in the last game--or did we watch two different games PSR?  I take major offense to calling me a sports journalist as those guys are mostly clueless.  Anyway, that wasn't my argument.  My main argument is that the bears can't be any worse and the packers can't be any better.  Buying low and selling high is the most advantageous situation you can be in.  Why the rest of you all do the reverse baffles me.

Jimbo says it all with

"4. Favre is having a career year. If our O line can keep Shawn Merriman absolutely silent, keeping the girls in Chicago down will be easy."

I believe that's a task even the packers can accomplish!

Bad week in the pick'ems this week. However:

Brady - 20.52
Addai - 13.30
Gore - 4.05 >:
R. Moss - 17.10
Branch - 6.50
Bowe - 14.20
Da. Clark - 15.80

Folk - 5.00

NE D - 9.00

Wk 4 Total - 105.47

Fans of Arizona - 4th overall(25th for the week)
Fans from Arizona - 15th overall (38th for the week)

I don't qualify as either by the way. I only picked them cos of their Red Wings kit. :D

Feeling pretty pleased with myself. Came back in my other fantasy to win 103-71 (from 54-71)

jon kitna threw for 80% against you with no interceptions, and kitna is not a very good QB. he's just getting by on his receivers left over charisma.

meanwhile they didn't manage to run for 100 yards on 23 carries, so yeah, you're run defence is FAR better than your pass defence.

you have a good pass rush, but when it comes to defending the pass, your team is pretty crap

Actually the past is partially irrelevant and you misunderstood my point.  My argument wasn't that the past wouldn't repeat itself but even Rex/Griese aren't likely going to throw the ball to the other team 3 times a game.  (as strange as that sounds right now...)

Kitna got sacked a lot and a bunch of those completions were on stuff like 3rd and 23 where the bears were just letting them complete passes (sidenote--Roy Williams has to learn where the first down markers are lol).  The only good offensive drive Detroit had was in the fourth quarter.  (the other pass TD they started at the chicago 30 or so)  The completion % number is really almost meaningless as there's a huge difference in one yard passes vs ten yard passes.  (also getting sacked doesn't count against that)
10% at completing 10 yard passes=1 yard/throw
90% at completing 1 yard passes=.9 yard/throw

Kevin Jones also did well rushing against Chicago.  Tatum Bell was horrible.

First one's actually better provided INT ratio (and breakaway ability from the receiver) is the same.

Anyway, ugh at not picking this week in espn pickem or I'd be up 2 games right now.  Oh well only 4 behind... SZ?  :)   I'm so rooting for SZ to win this pickem contest now.  (did everyone just forget that in a dome vs those receivers with no starting secondary/briggs on defense the lions only had 3 points in 3 quarters?)

That said; GB's definitely the favorite this week but all I'm saying is Chicago's got a better shot than all of you think they do.

Survival Pick, Week 5 (Blacked out):

New England over Cleveland.

This is the only thing that feels truly safe (Indy seems like a 95%.  This seems 100% with the way Belichick is saying @#%$ you to everyone in the league, seemingly throwing to Moss already up 20 points late in the 4th quarter every game).  *crosses fingers*
Man, I really wanted to go with Baltimore over SF, but the risk doesn't seem worth the reward.  Even though Alex Smith and Vernon Davis out, I'm still wary due to Baltimore's awful play this year.  I mean they lost by 2 TDs to cleveland last week, anything can happen.

There, I picked NE.  You guys happy?

So far, I've used SEA, DEN, PIT, DAL, and NE.

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 4

Week 4 was just appalling. I mean does it get any more ridic than this?

1 Kelly Rules - 9
2 Din Mor - 8
PDO's Perfect Picks - 8

Just a shocking set of results all round. Kelly Rules wins again with 9 correct whilst Jim and PDO return a respectable 8. Most of the heavyweights had 4-5 correct and wheat had a truly dreadful 1. Thats how bad the results were

Jim vs Fal - Jim wins again to go 4-0 up.

Elite Pickem - Overall

Overall things just get more hilarious

1 QB's Square Picks - 39
Din Mor - 39
PerfectLight - 39
Boss - 39
5 mikerspd - 38
Woll - 38
PDO's Perfect Picks - 38

You know the season is comical when the likes of QB and Jim are in a tie for first. Joining them are PL and Boss. Mikers, Woll and PDO are one back in a tie for fifth.

Elite Pickem - Win Table

For the first time since Week 1 we have an outright leader as Kelly Rules pulls away from the pack with his second win!

1 Kelly Rules - 2
2 Esox Magnus - 1
PerfectLight - 1
Din Mor - 1
wiff's ownage picks - 1

Elite Spread Pickem (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem/23987)

Elite Spread Pickem - Week 4

Impressively we have a better score at the top this week for the spread pickem than non-spread. Ptown Boners and QB top it off with 10.

1 Ptown Boners - 10
QB's Pro Bets - 10
3 mikerspd's poopy picks - 9
4 Boss - 8
Moo Moo Farm - 8
Belt of Utility - 8
matt8000 ftw - 8

Elite Spread Pickem - Overall

Capitalising on their weekly performance Ptwon and QB pull away at the top of the leaderboard, now 2 ahead of the next best challenger Boss in third.

1 Ptown Boners - 33
QB's Pro Bets - 33
3 Boss - 31
4 ngamer whackers - 30
5 DarkHawk's Picks - 29
Moo Moo Farm - 29

Elite Survival (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/survival/5257)

Elite Survival - Week 4

Well we lost a TON of people this week. unsuprising really given the comedy results. Steelers, Chargers and Texans all let a variety of people down and the field has been trimmed considerably. Seven plus Youse remain to go into week 5!

Still in: Team Angle, boss killers, Octo's Survival Picks, matt8000 ftw, mostfrantic, Ptown Boners, Topes
Babysitting: Crossbow of Paradigm
Eliminated: Boss(1), Clark(1), QB(1), Milano(2), Come(2), Better Than Ngamer(3), Kelly Rules(3), The Immortal Ones(4), Ng's Supersurvivors!(4), Neo's Aussie Picks(4), mikerspd manhandlers(4), Moo Moo Farm(4)

I realize this doesn't prove anything since I'm posting it after the fact, but it's pretty sick so I wanted to brag about it anyway. I rarely bother, but I grabbed a pen at around 7 EST Sunday and predicted the betting lines for the next week.

TeamzzzPredicted linezzzActual line

Bal zzzzzzzz-10zzzzzzzzzz -10
Chi zzzzzzzz-6zzzzzzzzzzzz -6
TB zzzzzzzzz-2 zzzzzzzzzzz-3 (+110) (obv guarding against teasers by not offering lines from 1.5 to 2.5)
Cle zzzzzzzz-6.5zzzzzzzzzz -5
Phi zzzzzzzz-3zzzzzzzzzzz -3
GB zzzzzzzzz-3 zzzzzzzzzzz-3
Cin zzzzzzzz-1zzzzzzzzzzz -3
Jax zzzzzzzz-7zzzzzzzzzzz -7

NE zzzzzzzz-5zzzzzzzzzzz -5

Maybe a bit of a fluke but I'll see if I can keep it up next week. :hat

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 5

Back to normality this week as things look to be settling down. Those one dimensional horrors the packers finally lost, but not as spectacularly as their equally predictable lions. Those who managed to get the most value out of the week were:

1 darthrob64 - 12
Esox Magnus - 12
Come - 12
Neo's Aussie Picks - 12
milano collection RB - 12
The Immortal Ones - 12

Thats right, a SIX way tie for 1st with 12 correct picks! And picking was so easy this week that pretty much everybody else scored 11 or 10. Really nothing interesting therefore to say, except Neo is there with a share of the lead - first time ever?

Jim vs Fal - Jim with yet another shutout to go up 5-0 in the series. Fal really has his work cut out already!

Elite Pickem - Overall

What does this mean overall?

1 QB's Square Picks - 50
2 Esox Magnus - 49
Din Mor - 49
PerfectLight - 49
Boss - 49
The Immortal Ones - 49

Well the elites generally good performance this week meant that collectively our group has rocketed back up the percentiles where we belong. Unfortunately what doesnt belong is QB sitting at the top with 50 picks. however we've been here many times before early in the season and if theres one thing you can rely on more than a Favre int, its a QB pickem implosion. A five way tie for second includes a few heavyweights and Jim - whose performances are starting to get the crowd talking! Could we really have a new contender here?

Elite Pickem - Win Table

The gigiantic tie for first this week means the win table has expanded a lot. Most notable is the second appearance for ngamer far - who now shares the lead with the hit or miss Kelly Rules.

1 Kelly Rules - 2
Esox Magnus - 2
2 PerfectLight - 1
Din Mor - 1
wiff's ownage picks - 1
darthrob64 - 1
Come - 1
Neo's Aussie Picks - 1
milano collection RB - 1
The Immortal Ones - 1

Elite Spread Pickem (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem/23987)

Elite Spread Pickem - Week 5

Well yeah. I guess I did good this week :p   Although even with such a straightforward week the scores were lower than the money line picks. Clark and Neo also score highly. The real question is where is Clark in the normal Pickem???

1 Team Angle - 11
2 Clark Kills - 9
2 Neo's Aussie Picks - 9

Elite Spread Pickem - Overall

QB now in the sole lead as the field is starting to spread out.

1 QB's Pro Bets - 41
2 Ptown Boners - 39
3 ngamer whackers - 38
4 Boss - 36
Team Angle - 36
6 Moo Moo Farm - 35

Elite Survival (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/survival/5257)

Elite Survival - Week 5

A pretty convincing exit for matt8000 as the Lions got nothing going against the Redskins. The rest chose a variet of the Colts, Pats, Tits and Cards.

6+1 Remain. Who will be eliminated this week?

Still in: Team Angle, boss killers, Octo's Survival Picks, mostfrantic, Ptown Boners, Topes
Babysitting: Crossbow of Paradigm
Eliminated: Boss(1), Clark(1), QB(1), Milano(2), Come(2), Better Than Ngamer(3), Kelly Rules(3), The Immortal Ones(4), Ng's Supersurvivors!(4), Neo's Aussie Picks(4), mikerspd manhandlers(4), Moo Moo Farm(4), matt8000 ftw(5)

Wow, really tough choice for me this week with Indy on a Bye...  (pick/thoughts in black, so don't check it until you've picked!):

It's gotta be between Philly (an absolutely putrid team without westbrook [top 3 backs in the league], who IS starting this week... who knows his overall role though), Arizona, and Chicago (with a slight nod to Cincy)...

I really don't want to rest my survival season on the shoulders of Brian Griese (would much prefer Rex playing), and the Bears are as shaky as any team right now, HOWEVER, getting the vikings at home is as good a time as any to finally rid myself of having to think about the bears in the future for survival.  Arizona sounds good, I know they're gaining a lot of momentum in sleeper talk, and Carolina should go down easy for them.  I dont' want to "waste" Philly, and by that I don't mean the Eagles are legit, I mean that they still get to play Buffalo and Miami later on, (one of them at home maybe?).  So mental coinflip for CHI/ARI...

My pick is CHICAGO.  I want to get them out of my hair and hopefully their momentum from beating rival #1 keeps going to rival #(2 or 3?  Wheat?).  Arizona has some more creampuff games later on, and this week I'll see how they handle what should be a victory.

Note:  This is the biggest limb I've been on so far imhhhhhhhho

Note2:  Giants would be a nice pick vs CRAPlanta, but both of those teams are just kind of giant balls of unpredictability, so nope.

i'd much rather have griese than rex. i think it might be risky picking chicago(although i personally would use philly for miami and not for buffalo). peterson is going to be a top 3 back in the league(by the start of next season at the latest) and they will probably just pass him the ball a lot

Taking my percentile (80%) times rank (60,000) means 20%=60,000, or 100% = 300,000.  So I guess there are ~300,000 entries on ESPN Pick'em.  Granted, not all predicted this previous week, but STILL!

Only 8 people predicted all 13 matches correctly
1 had a perfect tiebreaker.
Matt8000 finished 3rd in tiebreaker.

Great work!  Really cool to see you up there - I remember a few years back seeing wheatrich on the march madness overall leaderboard with a great shot - but his GT didn't pull through.

GT's star guard was injured in game 1 of that tournament (played later but wasn't even close to 100%).  Obviously wouldn't have taken them to go all the way at that point (and possibly not even to the champ game so...)
Anyway, way to go matt.

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 6

Well lets get right to it. As has been mentioned already the Elite had a very special week as matt8000 not only got a perfect set of picks but almost won the entire week!

Here is the Week 6 Overall leaderboard tiebreaker situation (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/weeklywinner?period=6&nScoreType=0):

loner Entry1 - 31-10
Franson Frickn Pickn - 32-10
matt8000 ftw - 38-7
Goff - 23-13
1 Pink 2 Stink - 28-21
packalova - 27-21
CC Alyg8tr - 0-0
Capps Entry2 - 0-0

Thats right only EIGHT people in the entire pickem world got 13 correct picks last week. Lets put that in perspective - Fal, who is by far the worst eliter at pickem, is ranked ~230,000th overall.

Matt finished 3rd out out of the 8 based on tiebreaker strength. loner nailed it SPOT ON with 31-10, but quite frankly he should be disqualified for being a complete noob that has 'Entry1' in his name. What a loser. Franson was just 1 point off and Matt 10. Well that was just an awesome performance by Matt. Well done sir!

No prizes for guessing who finished top of the elite league last week...

1 matt8000 ftw - 13
2 QB's Square Picks - 10
milano collection RB - 10

It shouldnt really go unnoticed that this was no straightforward week either. Many of the elites renowned pickers didnt score highly at all. Matt finished 3 ahead of second placed QB/RB who fluked/accurately researched 10 picks.

Jim vs Fal - Jim goes up 6-0 in the series. When this one is over we'll switch to Jim vs QB. In fact I may just do that from next week since Fal isnt really worth anyones time on this :p

Elite Pickem - Overall

Well matt took a huge leap up the board but not enough to get a mention:

1 QB's Square Picks - 60
2 Din Mor - 58
Boss - 58

QB retains the top spot with 60 picks and a 2 point lead over Jim/Boss who have 58. One interesting fact that illustrates how truly horrible QB is at pickem is that he stil has yet to register a weekly win, despite his overall position. I mean just how are we supposed to take the guy seriously? Which brings us onto..

Elite Pickem - Win Table

No change at the top but matt8000 joins the pack tieing for 3rd.

1 Kelly Rules - 2
Esox Magnus - 2
2 PerfectLight - 1
Din Mor - 1
wiff's ownage picks - 1
darthrob64 - 1
Come - 1
Neo's Aussie Picks - 1
milano collection RB - 1
The Immortal Ones - 1
matt8000 ftw -

Elite Spread Pickem (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem/23987)

Elite Spread Pickem - Week 6

Im gonna boycott yahoo spread pickem next year because the weekly leaderboard format is so retarded. Theres only so much time I can pretend to be working here before someone realises Im actually writing an elite pickem wrapup, and quite frankly I could do without the additional 2344242 hour reformatting nonsense required thanks to yanoob.

1 DarkHawk's Picks - 7
Milano Collection RB - 7
The Immortal Ones - 7
Octo's Spread Picks - 7

A pretty dreadful performance relative to the pickem totals sees a four way tie for first on 7 picks.

Elite Spread Pickem - Overall

None of this affects overall however as QB stays in the lead.

1 QB's Pro Bets - 46
2 ngamer whackerss - 43
Ptown Bonerss - 43
4 Bosss - 42
5 Team Angles - 40

Elite Survival (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/survival/5257)

Elite Survival - Week 6

Well there goes boss killers and Youse, who picked Seattle and Chicago respectively. That leaves us with just five remaining survivors!

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 7

The standard of picking seems to be really improving now as we had another excellent performance this week:

1 Octo's Picks - 12
2 wiff's ownage picks - 11
*Whooooooosh* - 11
The Immortal Ones - 11

Not quite the perfect but Octo appears out of NOWHERE to dominate with 12 correct picks. Scoring highly but falling short of the top were wiff, comet and aj with 11 and a tie for second place. Many many of rest managed 10 or 9 picks so we did pretty good overall.

Jim vs ... Fal has been sacked for poor performance and thus we've had to draft in a replacement. Its difficult to find someone who matches up well with Jim in terms of equal NFL knowledge and quite frankly Im hesitant as to whether this new competitor has the skillset that SZ clearly possesses. Nevertheless we'll give him a chance as the results thus far show we may have a good battle on our hands here. Thus Im pleased to announce Fal's substitue is none other than .... QB!

Jim vs QB - Well we missed weeks 1-6 but let me tell you that its been very close. After the week 7 predictions came in the score in this series is now 4-3 QB. Can Jim tie it up in week 8? Watch this space

Elite Pickem - Overall

Overall we are now tied three-way at the top!

1 QB's Square Picks - 68
Din Mor - 68
The Immortal Ones - 68
4 Esox Magnus - 67
Boss - 67
milano collection RB - 67

That pair QB and Jim are not only battling it out for chatroom supremacy but also the overall leadership as they are tied with AJ on 68 correct picks. None of them can be happy seeing Boss just 1 behind with 67 correct. Boss has been there and done it before, can the rabble at the top hold him off for another week?

Elite Pickem - Win Table

Octo is the latest addition to the bottom of the table

1 Kelly Rules - 2
Esox Magnus - 2
2 PerfectLight - 1
Din Mor - 1
wiff's ownage picks - 1
darthrob64 - 1
Come - 1
Neo's Aussie Picks - 1
milano collection RB - 1

Elite Spread Pickem (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem/23987)

Elite Spread Pickem - Week 7

Yahoo is the worst therefore I am just going to report weekly winner here, and this week it was none other than:

1 Milano Collection RB - 11

11 picks is a very credible return for spread pickem. Double figures is a rare sight

Elite Spread Pickem - Overall

QB retains the overall lead by three. The weekly swings in individual scores are reasonably large so there is plenty of opportunity for the leadership picture to change completely in the space of 1 week.

1 QB's Pro Bets - 54
2 Ptown Boners - 51
3 Milano Collection RB - 49
ngamer whackers - 49
Boss - 49

* actually I do know--I'm quite a nit when it comes to money thanks to being in a midwest conservative type house--and it's cost me quite a bit of money over my life (first example was UPS stock during the 94 strike) and I know it'll continue to do so.

Elite Pickem - Week 8

A mega tie at the top this week.

1 sucram - 12
Ng's Superpicks! - 12
Din Mor - 12
Larkin - 12
5 Come - 11
BrewCity Blitzed - 11
milano collection RB - 11

The overall standard really does seem to be improving after a rocky start. Four way tie for the lead with Sucram ,Jon, Jim and Lark sharing the lead with an excellent 12 picks. Come and friends post a steady score of 11.

Jim vs QB - Jim dominated this week to tie up the series at 4-4. This is quite a streak hes putting together on QB - can he now pull into the lead?

Elite Pickem - Overall

Overall...

1 Din Mor - 80
2 milano collection RB - 78
The Immortal Ones - 78
4 QB's Square Picks - 77
Esox Magnus - 77

Jim takes the lead following his monster week and unbelievably is 2 ahead of the rest!

Elite Pickem - Win Table

Several additions this week. Jims win however puts him on 2 and a share for the weekly leaderboard first place.

Elite Spread Pickem - Overall

And theres that huge swing I was talking about as QB plummets. That three pick lead has now evaporated as Mr Ptown takes over at the top.

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 9

Another week of solid picking:

1 Boss - 12
Woll - 12
2 Poteau Jedi - 11
mikerspd - 11
The Immortal Ones - 11

Boss is on the move! 12 picks sees him share the weekly win with that man Woll. Nate/mikers/AJ finish with a respectable 11.

Pick breakdown (winner in bold):

Pants 4 Tits 20 - Yeah I was one of the noobs that backed the pants. I guess they really dropped off when delhomme got hurt - just as Smith has in my fantasy team >:
Cards 1 Bucs 23 - C:lol     me
Skins 21 Jets 3 - yet another embarassment for me picking the Jets
Jax 10 Saints 14 - First of the venly split games. many of the big names went with Jax only to be let down once again.
Chargers 24 Vikes 0 - well NOONE got this right
Niners 14 Falcs 10 - Im proud to say I called this one correctly, as did Jim, QB, wheat etc, Jon didnt :)     ?
Pack 18 Chiefs 6 - Really dont understand how pack keep winning, and several of the notoriety seemed to agree on this
Broncos 7 Lions 17 - Well wiff obviously screwed up here, but whats Octos excuse?
Bengals 10 Bills 14 - This was a relatively poor pick by me again. Im still suprised how bad the Bengals are doing this year, but that d is pretty awful.
Sealobsters 12 Browns 12 - Woll gets no credit for this pick and thus we'll make Boss the honorary outright winner of the week.
Pats 21 Colts 3 - If I asked you to guess 2 of the 3 offenders youd probably be confident of getting them right. Newsflash: NEO BACKED THE PATS.
Texans 11 Raiders 13 - This one seemed pretty straightforward although QB, wheat, Boss and Jim all screwed up.
Cowboys 23 Eagles 1 - Seems Jon is really clutching at straws now backing the Eagles!
Ravens 2 Steelers 22 - Apart from the obv picker, blame Sucram.

Jim vs QB - QB takes this week by just 1 pick (10 to 9) and thus breaks Jims streak. That makes the series 5-4 QB as we head into week 10.

Elite Pickem - Overall

Overall we are now tied two-way at the top!

1 Din Mor - 89
The Immortal Ones - 89
3 Boss - 88
milano collection RB - 88
5 QB's Square Picks - 87

Jim retains overall lead but now finds himself in a tie with AJ. Boss sneaks even closer to the top and is only 1 back.

Elite Pickem - Win Table

Boss and Woll both debut at the bottom of the win table:

1 Kelly Rules - 2
Esox Magnus - 2
Din Mor - 2
3 PerfectLight - 1
wiff's ownage picks - 1
darthrob64 - 1
Come - 1
Neo's Aussie Picks - 1

QB is back in the lead with a 2 point gap opened up again.

1 QB's Pro Bets - 70
2 Ptown Boners - 68

4 Milano Collection RB - 66
ngamer whackers - 66

Those raiders continue to kill me.  I got to stop picking them in games they should win.  edit--This is a major make or break week for me looking at my picks.  I figure I will pretty easily either gain or lose 2 games or more vs the field based on them.

ugh I actually made a bet against Devin Hester figuring nobody would actually kick to him--and THEN I hear the @#%$ raiders are saying sure we'll kick to him all the time.  HELLO YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!

They're definitely winning the "how the hell do we cost wheat the most money possible" contest.  It's sickening me.

I seriously hope the Seapelicans pull through this weekend or else there will be a devil to pay.

I also astutely claim that Chicago will lose, since I have them winning and they've mirrored my predictions pretty darn well so far which is mildly annoying.

Beating QB shouldn't be much of a problem though, I'm feeling confident that he will have a hard time keeping up with me this week, just like his mor kept it up hard for me last night :o

Edit: Typical 05:16 typo had to go.

Dallas -1 or -2?  I guess I'll follow Q (well just the picture part hopefully and make it my...)

(https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg222.imageshack.us%2Fimg222%2F3928%2Fsimpsonslockon0cr7wt0.jpg&hash=5f023900cb3bd0e99bbe50b0cab8f9803b8d9dc7)

Analysis (see NYG's recent schedule--all cupcakes--end of cupcakes means they've got a fantastic shot at going 8-8 again after a hot start lol.)  That and Dallas is by far the better squad... [although the last time I thought dallas would romp on the road as the fav romo decided to do everything in his power to win the game for buffalo so...]

Atlanta ML +170 is also my...

Also on
KC -3

edit--okay for a little better analysis.  NYG only had one sack vs Dal first go around--also Dallas defense is really good versus the run and maybe this time they'll actually cover Burress... I hope.  (burress won't be 100% during the game)

anyway--to whoever (PSK I think) said miami would go winless and offered to wager--I'm also interested in the miami winning side so if you're still interested in making a wager let me know (and I'm sure Q would take an offer as well if you guys haven't already).

uhhh SZ it was a fantastic week for you as you gained a game on most of your competitors.

Only one person taking Was and one on Ten shocked me as I struggled picking both of those games and figured when I ended up 0-2 on them I was screwed for the week.  Darn I'm usually on the other side vs the field in games like that feel like I missed a game vs the field there oh well.*

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 10

Well this week was pretty meh to be fair. A load of wins that  could be considered unexpected judging by how the predictions went.

1 matt8000 ftw - 10
2 Octo's Picks - 8
picks of wheat - 8
Kelly Rules - 8

matt8000 is back! 10 correct picks in an otherwise poor week gets him the weekly win by 2. Octo and Kelly Rules share second with 8 - along with wheat who, as we'll see, picked horrendously and really deserves absolutely no credit for this performance.

Pick breakdown (winner in bold):

Falcs 2 Pants 21 - I dont really know how or where to start here. Wheat picked the Falcs. I mean this may go down in history as the WORST pick EVER. Im just so irate about this on so many levels its not even funny. Firstly the Falcs had no chance of winning this game so the pick itself was just completely ridiculous. Secondly Smith has done nothing AGAIN without delhomme and so is now going to be dropped from my fantasy team. Coupled with Gore performing like hes in a GNC and not the NFL and my first 2 draft picks are monumental suckers. THis of course is completely wheats fault, especially as he somehow managed to win his fantasy matchup this week which is just TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. I mean wtf Youse. As if things werent bad enough hes clealry doing matt8000s picks also (the other falcs culprit). And to top it all off I had the bloody pants in survival. Can you say arg som fethaja helvete? >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >: >:
Vikes 1 Pack 22 - A strange pick from the milano collection here. And now peterson is dead so gg fantasy
Broncos 6 Chiefs 17 - Jim managed to get this one right.
Bills 22 Miami 1 - Well I picked Miami and I dont think it was a bad pick at all. As amusing as it is to see the Dolphins suck so much, they arent a 0-9 team at all so for pickem purposes this was a disappointing outcome (again)
Rams 1 Saints 22 - matt8000 correctly picked the Rams here. What is wrong with the saints really.
Browns 1 Steelers 22 - W:lol  ll
Jax 1 Tits 22 - Wheee. im astonished I was th eonly one to back jax here. Its been quite teh backpedal from QB on those jags
Eagles 1 Redskins 22 - Kelly Rules was the only one to get this right. The Eagles are just so frickin random - although I assume they are blowing the league away in every category of QBS stats.
Bengals 10 Ravens 11 - Finally a game where the split was relatively even.
Lions 20 Cards 3 - matt8000, PDO and QB took this one correctly
Cowboys 18 Giants 5 - I find it suprising even 5 people backed the giants
Bears 20 Raiders 3 - geez matt is so hit and miss. Here he was backing the raiders, along with sucram and lark
Colts 22 Chargers 1 - and now here he backs the chargers? Crazy
Niners 0 Seawheats 23 - straightforward

Just to clarify this. In four games with overwhelming favourites amongst the elite (2-21, 1-22, 3-20, 1-22 splits), matt8000 defies logic and picks the underdog correctly

Jim vs QB - A tie between the two adversaries this week means QB retains his 5-4 lead heading into week 11.

Elite Pickem - Overall

Not a huge amount of change at the top as most people scored very similarly this week.

1 Din Mor - 96
2 The Immortal Ones - 95
3 QB's Square Picks - 94
Boss - 94
milano collection RB - 94

Jim is now the overall leader again on 96 picks, 1 ahead of AJ who occupies second alone. Boss comeback stutters a little as he is now 2 off the lead.

Elite Pickem - Win Table

With his second win, matt8000 makes it a four-way tie at the top.

1 Kelly Rules - 2
Esox Magnus - 2
Din Mor - 2
matt8000 ftw - 2
3 PerfectLight - 1
wiff's ownage picks - 1
darthrob64 - 1
Come - 1
Neo's Aussie Picks - 1
milano collection RB - 1
The Immortal Ones - 1
Octo's Picks - 1
sucram - 1
Ng's Superpicks! - 1
Larkin - 1
Boss - 1
Woll - 1

Elite Spread Pickem (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem/23987)

Elite Spread Pickem - Week 10

QB and myself tie for 7 in this dismal week.

1 QB's Pro Bets        - 7
Team Angle - 7

Elite Spread Pickem - Overall

QB extends his advantage to four over the Boss.

1 QB's Pro Bets - 77
2 Boss - 73
3 Milano Collection RB - 72
Ptown Boners - 72
ngamer whackers - 72

Elite Survival (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/survival/5257)

Elite Survival - Week 10

And just like that its all over. I picked the pants and lost (see above). Whilst the remaining three all took the Saints. So I guess that makes it a fourway tie for first. Full rundown to be provided at seasons end.

Eliminated: Boss(1), Clark(1), QB(1), Milano(2), Come(2), Better Than Ngamer(3), Kelly Rules(3), The Immortal Ones(4), Ng's Supersurvivors!(4), Neo's Aussie Picks(4), mikerspd manhandlers(4), Moo Moo Farm(4), matt8000 ftw(5), boss killers(6), Crossbow of Paradigm(6), Ptown Boners (7), Team Angle (10), Octo's Survival Picks (10), mostfrantic (10), Topes (10)

no they aren't. they're an 0-9 team missing their 3 good players, good coaching, leadership and ability.

According to the sports bettors--they saw the Atl vs Car game as I did as the ML line even after I posted plummeted to around +140ish.  Which means that they thought that Atlanta would win that game more than 2 times out of 5. (I actually had Atl a little over 50% to win that game [Car was either starting--a banged up Vinny T or some guy I had never heard of])  I hardly call that "the worst pick ever".

PSR--would you like to make any wager with me that Miami will go 0-16?  I'll take the 1-15 and better.

Bet of the Week

Priest Holmes UNDER 70.5 rushing yards at Indy. (-115)

Although I'm afraid Holmes will get a bunch of carries b/c Croyle's starting I've got several things in my favor.

First Holmes hasn't been a dependable back in years.  Isn't this only his second actual game (and only got 40ish last week vs Denver's horrible rush defense)  Second, indy has a good rushing defense.
Third, Indy stopped KC pretty good the last time KC went to indy and had LJ.
Fourth, shouldn't indy be having 8 man fronts and forcing Croyle to throw the ball?

Also on
NE -15
Cle -3

Feel like if I had parlayed every team I thought would win in NCAAf this week I would have hit it.  oh well (would have done OSU+Missouri+Illinois) missed betting on Mizzou as I had planned though (completely forgot lol).

(good thing I went 2-0 last week).  This week's bets so far
NO -3 at Car
whatever NE is when I can bet on it
also considering detroit +3.5 but probably won't do that.

They said on Mike&Mike this morning that NE would be -22.  Against a 5-5 team.

22 point favorites.

Against a .500 team.

Yeah, Philly's missing McNabb and it's in NE, but still, that's crazy.  I can only imagine what the line is going to be in the NYJ@NE game (could it possibly push 30?!?)

Off topic a little, I made a bet with a guy at work today on the Daytona 500.  He's a huge Earnhardt Jr. fan, and is convinced that Lil' E is going to win every race next year or something.  I took the field against Jr and am giving him 10-1 (I pay him $100 if Jr wins, he pays me $10 if anyone else wins).  What a sucker!

Someone remind me to edit that in February if Jr. wins. :hat

I don't know about that Come, a Hendrick car with Jr behind the wheel at statistically his 3rd best track being Daytona and having such a long losing streak....I wouldn't get so cocky! There's probably only 8 or so guys out there that can beat him, frankly I think you got screwed!

Also, wheat, Paypal. QB sends payments to petsitter55@hotmail.com (eBay-linked account, I didn't make up the name!) Thanks for playing! :p

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 11

Back to form with a high scoring week from the elite:

1 Kelly Rules - 15
2 QB's Square Picks - 13
sucram - 13
picks of wheat - 13
mikerspd - 13
Neo's Aussie Picks - 13

So there were 16 games this week again and Kelly Rules managed to get 15 of them correct. Only TWO people worldwide got all 16 so this was a damn good job. Some of the heavyweights make up a tie for second place with 13 picks. QB is also there. As is wheat.

Jim vs QB - Jim had some ridic unluck this week which gives him a loss and allows QB to take a 6-4 lead.

Pick breakdown (winner in bold):

Bucs 18 Falcs 6 - Those freakin falcons. Just defy logic totally. Even Boss and Come agreed and backed them too. But no.
Cards 9 Bengals 15 - I find the Bengals very difficult to predict each week
Chiefs 1 Colts 23 - lol at matt8000 almost pulling this one off and winning yet another 1-23 split. Im very annoyed with myself that I didnt have money on the Chiefs +whatever it was here.
Chargers 9 Jax 15 - Seemed a straightforward pick on Jax really
Raiders 7 Vikes 17 - Just no idea what goes through Jons mind when he picks. Always seems to find himeself on the losing side of splits like these. Come also had the Raiders.
Browns 21 Ravens 3 - Brandon and Comet were the two other ravens fans for this one
Pants 0 Pack 24 - No real comment here apart from the fact the pack seem to have a ridic easy schedule.
Saints 13 Texans 11 - After last week I find it quite suprising so many backed the Saints, including Come.
Dolphins 2 Eagles 22 - Yeah yeah whatever. The Dolphins arent going 0-16 so ill keep backing them.
Giants 15 Detroit 9 - zomg Giants beat a side with a winning record
Steelers 24 Jets 0 - Obviously this is the one that stopped Kelly going perfect. Pretty inexplicable loss really. Especially as the Steelers will probably manage to beat the Pats somehow
Redskins 0 Cowboys 24 - zzzzzz
Rams 17 Niners 7 - Jim really should have known better here. Its lazy picks like this that cost him a lot of ground this week
Bears 6 Seabradys 18 - Another upset pick down the drain for Come. He picked waaaay too many this week. And it gets worse....
Pats 23 Bills 1 - Come picked the Bills. True story.
Tits 16 Broncos 8 - You know its a suprise win when Jon goes against the majority and hits.

Elite Pickem - Overall

Now looking like this:

1 QB's Square Picks - 107
The Immortal Ones - 107
3 Din Mor - 106
4 picks of wheat - 105

The key issue overall was that Jim had an atrocious week, blowing his lead and dropping into third place behind QB and AJ.

Elite Pickem - Win Table

Finally someone gets a third win and takes the outright lead. Can anyone stop Kelly? Its not proving easy to accumulate wins!

1 Kelly Rules - 3
2 Esox Magnus - 2
Din Mor - 2
matt8000 ftw - 2
5 PerfectLight - 1
wiff's ownage picks - 1
darthrob64 - 1
Come - 1
Neo's Aussie Picks - 1
milano collection RB - 1
The Immortal Ones - 1
Octo's Picks - 1
sucram - 1
Ng's Superpicks! - 1
Larkin - 1
Boss - 1
Woll - 1

Elite Spread Pickem (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem/23987)

Elite Spread Pickem - Week 11

Octo and Jon tie with 10 correct spread picks

1 Octo's Spread Picks - 10
Ng's Superspreads! - 10

Elite Spread Pickem - Overall

No change at the top as QB is still 4 clear of Boss

1 QB's Pro Bets - 85
2 Boss - 81
3 Ptown Boners - 80
ngamer whackers - 80
5 Milano Collection RB - 78

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 12

And the high scoring continues:

1 The Immortal Ones - 13
2 darthrob64 - 12
picks of wheat - 12
Neo's Aussie Picks - 12

AJ has a fantastic week picking 13 correctly whilst myself, wheat and neo tie for second place with 12. On such a high scoring week its odd that Woll only managed to get 1 correct. Ah but he only picked the Monday night game so nevermind.

Jim vs QB - Jim had another dreadful week giving QB a free win that he truly does not deserve. 7-4 QB in the series now

Pick breakdown (winner in bold):

Pack 19 Lions 1 - QB is the joker here. This pick single handedly stopped the entire Elite going perfect through Thanksgiving >:
Jets 0 Dallas 21 - Straightforward pick here. Can the Jets keep Miami at bay next week though?
Colts 21 Falcs 0 - For once the Colts actually covered :eek
Saints 16 Pants 6 - This was a pretty dire game. Jim had picked the Pants which I cant really understand. Then again, so did Boss!
Tits 19 Bengals 3 - HOW. QB explain how you picked this one correctly please! AJ also had this right
Texans 5 Browns 17 - Another one that went thw rong way for Boss
Bills 2 Jax 20 - Kelly Rules and Richard Bownes making the wrong pick here
Raiders 1 Chiefs 21 - I had typed some huge paragraph laughing at Lark before remembering that the Raiders actually won this
Vikes 2 Giants 20 - Well I am just flabbergasted that only myself and RB took the Vikes here. Explain yourself wheat!
Seaelishas 19 Rams 3 - I had the Rams here and I thought it was a good pick. They should have won too
Redskins 8 Bucs 16 - Jim loses for backing his own team
Niners 1 Cards 21 - PDO out of nowhere predicted this one correctly
Broncos 13 Bears 9 - Im surpised at how divided the field was here. Then again Grossman... QB and Jon both had the Broncos
Ravens 4 Chargers 18 - Odd to see octo backing the Ravens here
Eagles 1 Pats 21 - matt8000 is the obvious joker here
Miami 0 Steelers 23 - I wonder how they did the tiebreak here. Since if you didnt make a selection the default is 0-0. Heh on checking this out, those that had 0-0 DID get ranked higher than those who actually made a pred :lol

Elite Pickem - Overall

Now looking like this:

1 The Immortal Ones - 120
2 QB's Square Picks - 118
3 picks of wheat - 117
4 Din Mor - 116
Neo's Aussie Picks - 116

AJs great week puts him two clear of the field on 120 picks. For those keeping track of The Elite's overall performance relative to the general population of noobs competing, AJ is at a 99.6 percentile. QB occupies second with 118 and wheat third with 117. To add insult to injury, Jim has now been caught by Neo in a tie for fourth on 116!

Elite Pickem - Win Table

AJ joins the pack in second place with his second win.

1 Kelly Rules - 3
2 Esox Magnus - 2
Din Mor - 2

Elite Spread Pickem - Week 12

This was actually a pretty high scoring week for The Elite in spread pickem. Many people scored double figures, but the two leading the way are Clark and Darkhawk with 12.

1 Clark Kills - 12
DarkHawk's Picks - 12

Elite Spread Pickem - Overall

Things are now getting interesting as QB begins the self destruct process and allows wheat to catch up in second. Boss is still hovering thereabouts too.

1 QB's Pro Bets        - 92
2 ngamer whackers - 90
3 DarkHawk's Picks - 89

also, if they do win once this season, the dolphins win will be this week

and last but not least, denver should be kicked out of the league for being the dumbest team ever

Yeah, I feel stupid losing that anti Hester bet because I thought no coach would be stupid enough to kick to him--I forgot that Sauerbrun (denver punter) is the dumbest person in the NFL (even before the game started).

I managed to lay off NE and Det last week so here's this week's bets

Certain bet
Chi (when the line finishes--the line has moved toward NYG so far so I'll wait a bit)
Probable bet
Miami when the line shows up.

Most likely bet

KC +6  Just a simple phrase here
San Diego on the road as a slight favorite has pretty much (I'd be surprised if they won one) lost straight up every game this year as such.

Considering (laid off both Det and NE last week btw so usually go the other way on these are winners cause I end up laying off)

SF +3  (I don't have the stones to take them in PK but I figure the line should move in my favor here so I'll wait)
SF/Car over 35.5
God this one's hard to judge--both teams suck both ways.--those type of games usually lead to the over I believe.
Det +3.5
What a difference a week makes.  Everyone thinks Det sucks and thinks Minn will crush them when just one week ago everyone would have said the exact opposite.  I have to consider this just because of this perception.
Hou +4
Ten has killed (picking wise) me as of late and I almost took Cin last week cause of that and managed not to gain a game there cause of that.  (Is haynesworth back yet?)

Good luck this week on your picks if you're on my side!

Eh, the Pats are obviously a really great football team, but after seeing what the Eagles were able to do to them that entire game, if you don't think the Cowboys or Packers have any chance of topping them in the Superbowl then you've got some Shep-like mental problems.

Last night's game was just as important in terms of determining which team would make the SB as the SB 41 1/2 between the Colts/Pats a few weeks back, since in both cases the result made the winner a virtual lock for home field throughout the playoffs.

all the patriots did in that match was @#%$ about, and just told the eagles to blitz the hell out of brady. they left 5 blockers to deal with at least 7 rushers every time and got the ball off every time

if they actually took the match seriously, it would've been a different story

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 13

The top weekly scores were:

1 D-12 - 13
2 sucram - 12
Woll - 12

Brandon appears from under a pile of PS2 games to claim the top spot this week with 13 correct picks. Just one behind are sucram and woll on 12. Sucram always seems to be there or thereabouts but hasnt made a dent on the overall total yet - largely due to a couple of poor weeks mid-season.

Jim vs QB - Proving that underdogs can be winners, QB takes this week by a solitary pick to move up 8-4

Pick breakdown (winner in bold):

Pack 7 Dallas 15 - I find the number of pack picks here suprising. Although once you filter out the Ngamer household and crazies like matt8000, kelly rules and wiff we're just left with mikers and sucram. guys? what happened?
Niners 4 Pants 18 - Odd picking here from brandon/sucram/neo/aj. This really seems like a pick dropped.
Jax 3 Colts 19 - wiff, matt8000, pdo etc
Lions 9 Vikes 13 - a real split here but most of the heavyweights had the vikes. Come didnt.
Chargers 17 Chiefs 5 - wiff, jim, matt8000, pdo, bla bla bla, wheat, bla bla....  hang on WHEAT?!? PLAYOFFS?!?!? Oh my.
Jets 8 Miami 14 - this was always going to be a tough one to call. Almost all the heavyweights backed Miami. AJ knew better however. somehow.
Bills 6 Redskins 16 - a hillllarious end to this game gave me a much needed point against the trend here
Texans 7 Tits 15 - gotta love those tits!
Falcs 4 Rams 18 - im still seething at that garbage sjax td run >:
Seacurtis 12 Eagles 10 - another one that split the group. I backed the eagles here and I probably would again if the same game was played this week
Browns 17 Cards 5 - QB somehow picked this correctly
Broncos 20 Raiders 2 - wheeeee. Just me and lark here. Im suprised more didnt take the raiders
Bucs 14 Saints 8 - I really hate my saints pick in hindsight. almost as much as i hate colston
Giants 13 Bears 9 - Well how did this happen. Two truly awful teams but I cant understand how the Giants win this, let alone have the elite majority
Bengals 0 Steelers 22 - Guess this was standard but I expected to see 1 or 2 bengals picks
Pats 22 Ravens 0 - Will be interesting to see how many take the steelers next week. The line still isnt up but Im tempted to take pitt in the spread at least.

Elite Pickem - Overall

Now looking like this:

1 The Immortal Ones - 131
2 QB's Square Picks - 129
3 Neo's Aussie Picks - 127
4 Din Mor - 126
5 picks of wheat - 125

AJ didnt have to do much this week to maintain that two point cushion over QB and extend his percentile to 99.7. Neo also makes no move in relative overall total yet bounds up to 3rd thanks to a truly appalling performance by wheat this week. At this stage of the season id have expected wheat to be Vinatieri's kicking to qb's Romo holding. However with just 4 weeks left time we could be looking at the biggest upset in Elite NFL history if QB can pull it out and overtake AJ. Nevertheless QB never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity so Im confident even I can finish above him still.

Elite Pickem - Win Table

Brandon adds his name to the list

1 Kelly Rules - 3
2 Esox Magnus - 2
Din Mor - 2
matt8000 ftw - 2
The Immortal Ones - 2
6 PerfectLight - 1
wiff's ownage picks - 1

Bears were screwed. The replay showed it bounced infront of him and even booth must have seen it. Mind you, the booth had an appaling week and gave Edwards touchdown even though it was obvious he was touched.

I thought I'd picked the bears too.

Kellen Winslow is the biggest baby around. He was in the officials face all match whining and moaning even when he caught the ball.

Panthers and 49ers are just as bad as each other, that's why I picked the 49ers.

Also, 99.7% = 990th.:D

Elite Pickem (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/)

Elite Pickem - Week 14

Best week ever?

1 Boss - 15
Neo's Aussie Picks - 15

This may well have been the Elite's best week ever. Neo and Boss share the lead with 15 picks! Its about time Boss got going but hes going to need to repeat this performance for the next three weeks if he is to stand any chance at all. Neo has been picking well the last few weeks, but can he maintain the pace as we head into the final straight? No less than 7 other pickers had 14 correct, including Brandon who forgot to pick the Thursday game. A further 9 had 13 correct! Last week we only had one person with 13 picks or more and now this week 18! Great stuff all round.

Jim vs QB - Jim must be seething that even when he picks 13 correct he still slips further behind! 9-4 QB and sadly thats gg

Pick breakdown (winner in bold):

Bears 9 Redskins 13 - This game had a real split. The crazies, the heavyweights, the contenders, just no clear pattern.
Miami 1 Bills 23 - (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fembarassed.gif&hash=5641b47ebaa060c9559e379ec4d9f9bfb35dd661)
Cowboys 24 Lions 0 - Well I guess the outcome of this game was irrelevant to the relative standings. But boy did Dallas get lucky. It NEVER ceases to amaze me how bad defensive players are at either catching a football or falling on it.
Rams 6 Bengals 18 - A disappointing pick here for Jim.
Raiders 1 Pack 23 - Alright I'll admit I screwed up bigtime here with this pick. I have absolutely no idea why I went with the Raiders and can only put it down to an unnoticed misclick!
Bucs 21 Texans 3 - This however was not a mispick and I legitmately backed the Texans.
Pants 0 Jax 24 - Jax are motoring now - if only they could beat those Colts!
Giants 14 Eagles 10 - I know the Eagles arent amazing, but why pick the Giants other than if you pick by just looking at the respective records? I know you dont use that method AJ so explain yourself!
Chargers 14 Tits 10 - I was very pleased with the tits pick here and I'd back them again in similar circumstances
Vikes 23 Niners 1 - the hit and miss that is matt8000
Cards 2 Seagooses 22 - misinformation'd. I hate the cards and I guess come does too. This was probably a bad pick by me
Steelers 2 Pats 22 - Well when it came down to it only 2 bravely took the Steelers. Come and matt8000 picking incorrectly here.
Chiefs 5 Broncos 19 - Pretty meh matchup really, but good enough to throw Come off his game again. I bet even Dayle could have picked the Broncos here!
Browns 24 Jets 0 - Surprising pick shutout. Id have thought a couple take the Jets
Colts 24 Ravens 0 - No suprising shutout here
Saints 21 Falcs 3 - Wiff, matt8000, Nate.

Elite Pickem - Overall

Now looking like this:

1 The Immortal Ones - 145
2 QB's Square Picks - 143
3 Neo's Aussie Picks - 142
4 Din Mor - 139
5 D-12 - 138

AJ keeps that 2 point lead with 145 picks over QBs 143. Neo gains 1 pick on second place and is now only 3 behind overall on 142. Jim drops a further pick behind but retains his 4th place. Brandons high scoring run sees him up to 5th on 138 as wheat is now in freefall! With just three weeks to go make sure if youre planning to make a move you dont leave it too late.

Elite Pickem - Win Table

Neo and Boss move into that tie for second place. Time is running out for those wanting to take first place ouright!

1 Kelly Rules - 3
2 Esox Magnus - 2
Din Mor - 2
matt8000 ftw - 2

Some bad weather games still turn into shootouts. The Jets can't stop the run either--potentially a fatal flaw in your plan Q. (Plus there's NO way NE won't run up the score on NYJ if they get the chance to).

Line's moved down to NYJ 22.5. I hope to get NE as low as possible.

Initial reactions are that I like the dogs this week--almost all of them. Which means you should take all favs. I might take SF +9 at home for sat though as that line seems a bit wrong. (Det +11 does to me as well but Det is such a +%$* road team I don't think I can fire on it)

So this week--one unit on NYJ +22.5 (hopefully getting one u on NE later or just letting this one ride)
one unit on SF +9
