Title: 2008-2009 season NFL betting topic
Post by: dragondragon18 on June 17, 2008, 11:27:00 pm
To start off the season, Jimbo is putting up 100 (on the pack) to my 70 (on the vikes) on the pack @ vikes to start off the season.

This post will be my notebook for what bets I have out there. Total money risked: $685.

1. Jimbo vs QB for $100 that Aaron Rodgers will have more passing/rushing TDs than Donovan McNabb. Both QBs MUST start game one. After that, bet cannot be voided.
2. Jimbo vs Drag that says Green Bay will beat Minnesota straight up week 1 on Monday Night Football. I am risking $100 and Drag is risking $70.
3. Jimbo vs Wheat that says Reggie Wayne will beat Randy Moss in fantasy points this year. (10 yards a point, 6 points per touchdown) My $90 vs wheat's $100.
4. Jimbo vs Drag that says Jason Witten will beat Antonio Gates in fantasy points (10 yards a point, 6 per touchdown). I risk $95 on Witten to Drag's $100 on Gates.
5. Jimbo vs Wheat for $100 that says Cleveland will finish 9-7 or better, wheat taking a 7-9 or worse season. 8-8 is a push.
6. Jimbo vs Youse for $100 that sets the same identical criteria as Jimbo vs QB invovling Rodgers/McNabb. Both QBs have to be starters in week one however.
7. Jimvo vs QB for $100 that says Cleveland will finish 9-7 or better, QB taking a 7-9 or worse season. 8-8 is a push.

Did we even finalize the McNabb/Rodgers bet? I thought you wanted to wait a few months.

I dunno if we finalized it QB, but I'm willing to just say screw it if you want to. Youse is a ghost and this bet seems screwy anyway (both QBs could die at any moment)

It was a risky move Goose, but you showed some real courage and heart in pulling the trigger on that bet, so you shouldn't feel too bad.

You can paypal the $100 to ngamer@gmail.com.

Jim... the bet was finalized. Surely Ngamer has the chat log. See my post in this topic from three weeks ago, for heaven's sake. I haven't disappeared, and I fully intend to ride this bet out. I will pay if I lose and collect if I win. There's no risk of me not paying if I lose. (Although I would argue there's no risk of me losing =P)

No cancelling or backing out, you pussy. Bring on the Favre!

Witten is never going to beat Gates in points, the Chargers go to Gates in TD situations more often and more often overall.
Moss is faster, taller, and overall better then Wayne, and in the prime of his career. More TDs for Moss, 50+ yard catches, etc.
McNabb/Rodgers bet, which was apparently finalized. Obvious reasons, McNabb is for sure the starter and is more agile, rushing yardage (more valuable then passing).

Browns and MNF bets are tough to call, so I'm just saying you'll win one and lose one.

Thiradell once again shows his NFL ignorance by posting in this topic. Moss got his money and died in the playoffs last year, look for Wayne to lead the NFL in everything. Witten is just a beastly, headless horseman and Antonio Gates has a toe injury that could easily plague him. McNabb is a pussy and I look for him to be out by week 5. The Packers will beat the Vikings at home and Cleveland will do just fine this year.

Right, so if you're so sure about McNabb, un-edit the fact that our bet is off, because it isn't. No reneging unless we both call it off, which I don't and won't!

I have a thing about only betting one person on the same bet, and QB/wheat can vouch for that; but fine I'll edit, bet is good.

Another side bet on baseball with Wheat, I bet $40 that Milwaukee wins the NL Central over the Chicago Cubs.

Look out for St. Louis to win the NL Central! (I'm a Cardinals fan)

Looks like you're counting on injuries to Gates and McNabb, especially McNabb, which is never a good thing. Rodgers could get hurt just as easily, and other then that you're just saying that your opinion/predictions are right. We'll have to wait and see!

You do realize that the St Louis Cardinals are baseball right? The NFL Cardinals are from Arizona.

He was only saying he thought the st louis cardinals would win the nl central because jimbo said he had a bet with wheat that the brewers win the central.  I'm sure he knows the cards are in the NFC West

So it's looking like this'll be it for this year:

Dallas Cowboys UNDER 10.5 wins - Risked $500 to win $650
Oakland Raiders UNDER 6 wins - Risked $500 to win $550
Green Bay Packers OVER 8 wins - Risked $202.50 to win $150
Philadelphia Eagles OVER 8.5 wins - Risked $175 to win $100
Detroit Lions UNDER 6.5 wins - Risked $110 to win $100
Tampa Bay Buccaneers OVER 8 wins - Risked $105 to win $75
Seattle Seahawks OVER 8.5 wins - Risked $87.50 to win $50
Baltimore Ravens OVER 6 wins - Risked $58 to win $40

Justin Tuck UNDER 12.5 sacks - Risked $120 to win $100
Wes Welker UNDER 1050 yards receiving - Risked $80 to win $64
Wes Welker UNDER 8 receiving TDs - Risked $70 to win $50
Steve Slaton OVER 425 rushing yards - Risked $62.50 to win $50
Earnest Graham OVER 1000 rushing yards - Risked $57.50 to win $50
Chester Taylor OVER 550 rushing yards - Risked $55 to win $50
Brian Urlacher UNDER 6.5 sacks + ints - Risked $50 to win $50

Clinton Portis to lead NFL in rushing yards - Risked $10 to win $500
DeSean Jackson to win Offensive Rookie of the Year - Risked $10 to win $250
Aaron Schobel to lead NFL in sacks - Risked $5 to win $200
Kyle Vanden Bosch to lead NFL in sacks - Risked $5 to win $100
Trent Cole to lead NFL in sacks - Risked $5 to win $90

These next 3 were placed months ago but they'll soon be resolved:

Adam "Pacman" Jones will be reinstated and will play in week 1, YES - Risked $250 to win $100
Kansas City to be the first team to defeat New England (week 1) - Risked $50 to win $700
Miami to be the first team to defeat New England (week 3) - Risked $100 to win $3500

And lastly, bets with Jimbo:

Cleveland UNDER 8 wins - Risked $100 to win $100
Donovan McNabb to accrue more rushing + passing TDs than Aaron Rodgers - Risked $100 to win $100

Now let's get this season underway!

Edit - got another $115 back from some no-actioned baseball bet so I threw some more on Dallas and added a Baltimore bet

Actually hey QB, what kind of odds were you getting on the Jets being the first team to beat New England in week 2?

I don't remember, but I don't think it was anything tempting at all. And this was well before they acquired Favre.

Oh yeah, I have an avatar bet again, with DK this year. He wants to stick me with this Hellmuth nonsense for another year! (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ffrown.gif&hash=9bb8520656650a7c2457ae0ae2ee8996e4109fd6)

If the Eagles win the NFC East, I pick his avatar for the next year. If the Cowboys win the NFC East, he picks mine. Any other result means...Nothing!

Love the DeSean bet at 25:1, no way is it still at that? I'd like to get in on that. Imo not enough on that and too much on Miami over NE, although who knows it might be +EV at 35:1. I still kind of think NE would beat Miami 50 times in a row, given current teams. Is your bet specifically on Week 3 or is it both NE/Mia games.

Also I enjoy the Trent Cole bet, some other fantasy league I'm in has a D-player slot (don't ask me!) and I nabbed him.

So QB and I have an Avatar vs Sig bet, just a basic bet of whoever has the better record, Green Bay or Philadelphia. (I'm also testing MY new avatar for this upcoming NFL season)

DeSean went to 20:1 shortly after I placed the bet, and then to 15:1 after the punt return TD. The Dolphins bet is only good for week 3.
