To Whom it May Concern,
I have recently been restricted to posting no more than 20 times in a 24 hour period for my actions recently on the elite boards. I understand fully why this decision was made and I take full responsibility.
However, I find this treatment both unjust and unreasonable for several reasons; - There are many others who have been posting just as frequently and for reasons no nobler than mine, yet I do not see these people having capped post limits.
- I am a very popular user on these messageboards, and often need to respond to many questions posed by inquisitive eliters throughout the day. This occurrence often exceeds 20 per day.
- I was never warned about excessive posting, in fact I was encouraged by most eliters who thought it would be a great accomplishment to keep this rate for as long as possible.
- If we ever compete in events (for example Who is Here the Most again) where posting many times is necessary, I will be at a severe, unfair disadvantage.
- I feel that I do have the potential to make some very insightful posts and threads, such as the recent board title name change for charity and the post something nice about the person above you thread. Keep in mind that I am on the boards approx. 14 hours daily, so 20 posts is simply an inadequately low number compared to my massive potential of wise posts through the span of a day.
Again, I am deeply sorry for my actions over the past few days. I still do not understand how they affect anyone negatively, so if someone could please explain how I would very much appreciate it. I do believe they did affect someone negatively, otherwise I would not have been handed this severe punishment, so for that I am very apologetic and hope I did no excessive harm.
I will suggest some possible solutions for this major problem we have here:
- Treat this as a warning for me since I did not have one before the punishment. Remove the cap from my posts and I will stop making uninsightful, pointless posts. If I ever start posting excessively for useless reasons you can feel free to justifiably put a small cap on my post limit or even ban me for good, since I will have been warned for now and for the future.
- The reason I did start posting excessively was because I was upset at Jon for not being able to unban my user White Goose, and I felt jipped out of 3584 posts from that user, on my current user. If RWhiteGoose is to be unbanned from the "Closed" set of forums and made moderator of Spamtown U.S.S.R, I can easily perform these 3500+ posts in this useless forum designed for spam. I feel the reason I have been posting useless things elsewhere is because I can't post them here. If I am allowed to post here as a moderator for even one week, I will be fully content with my rightful post count.
- Make a "Goose Responses" thread in every forum (at least GE, GC and FFA) which will be stickied, so that I can respond and give insight on any post in that forum by editing the opening post if I have already exceeded my maximum posts for the day.
As an aside, the reason I want to have a justified post count (with my past users who have been banned's post counts in account) is simply because I am a loser. I have very little to live for, and when you are in these situations, you must find reason to enjoy your life. One of few purposes I have found, is to have a large post count and to one day catch Wouter, except unlike Wouter, I will make only insightful, appreciated posts.
I thank everyone for reading and I hope that some action will be taken on this pressing issue. At the very least, I would like to hear some response from all admin of the boards. Remember, I fully understand making topics such as "Personal 502 topic" while bragging about how many posts I can get is completely immature and something that should never be repeated. Please stay in contact and I look forward to hearing from the administrative powers. Thank you very much.

Well, obviously it is absurd to restrict someone by doing this. Nevertheless I understand the reasons, however it's quite entertaining to read some 'useless' posts by Ryan, although most of them should have been in FFA instead of GE. Yeah I think that must be it, just do these random conversations about whateverness in FFA instead of the 'world record discussion' topic or something and I'm fine with it. And so should be other members.

wrong and wrong--you have a fanbase sure--but we had that poll and the majority weren't on your side. there aren't even 20 new topics on this site a day so I see no need for 20 new posts by one person.

To Wheat, I take it you missed my Cancer charity topic and my Post Something Nice topic. Furthermore, some GE topics have lots of activity and require 5 or even 10 posts/day, such as the PR or WR discussion topic when there is a lot of things to discuss (people getting WRs, new strategy potential, etc.) On top of this, there are many active topics with a lot of discussion which I enjoy posting in. "There aren't 20 new topics every day" is a terrible excuse... there could be 5 active topics and this would easily allow for over 20 posts.
hey Wheat, I just noticed. I've posted 3 times in this topic already, and all of those posts were necessary, insightful posts! And the discussion in here hasn't even started! My oh my, there must be room to post like 60 good posts/day even without ANY new topics!

9000 posts, you must assume I post a lot, eh? That's 3 a day since I came here. 20 a day is rarely necessary, I'd struggle to find 20 worthwhile posts to make in a day, especially with how slow the boards are lately. I can see if some debate came up you might want a few extra posts, but even then...
In any case, I don't think you're spamming, but rather encouraging FFA discussion. I think the problem is, most of the-elite is (or thinks they are) too mature for some of the topics that pop up like "what is your favorite color" or something. Sure, we all like to discuss, but the issue here is a conflict of interest between what you want to talk about and what the admins want on the boards. I think a lot of this stuff is more suited for chat, which is sort of what is expected, while the boards is supposed to supplement as an announcement/long-term discussion rather than a quick "who watched last nights football game."

Most of the people on the boards are different from those in chat. I like the crew of the boards much better than I like that of chat. The boards also allows you to think more carefully about what you say and results in better communication.
If the problem truly is that the elite wants this board to have longterm, important threads on it only, then at least remove my cap and allow me to post in FFA and GE. I will never post anything stupid in GC again if this truly is the case and if you don't think I can handle posting only intelligent things (my last 4 posts in this topic would be good examples) in GC, then ban me from GC, but do not take away my FFA and GE posting privileges.

For the first time i am in complete agreement with goose, in fact his charity topic jumped him to one of the most respected eliters here. His post something nice topic i find intruiging energetic and very worthwhile. Ryan White should be in fact congratulated and encouraged for this. You have my firm support
I see no post from any moderator warning him of his conduct. Therefore i believe a ban/ post limit is phenomenally unjust, however i do agree the discussion on this topic should serve as a spam warning. He agrees to this
I am one of the least respected and least popular eliters, i admit and accept that as deserved. But i will leave the elite completely if this sort of resistance to free speech is allowed to continue. I don't compete anymore so i only stay to find decent chat. which ryan is probably 70%+ responsible for creating.
Ryan may be a dick (sorry Ryan) but he is an interesting entertaining one. and for f's sake without him and afanoftherings (who isnt interesting enough) the GC would probably be near dead
Oh and on a further note ryan i have a few recent stories i have been saving for the time to make a decent gc topic about. You will enjoy them

Ruling: Goose's cap has been raised to 50 posts. However, every zero content post he makes will result in a 1 post reduction to that limit.

Thank you very much Jon. Fifty posts is a very fair number and I will be sure to treat all my posts the same way I would treat a Faberge egg, with plenty of love, thought, care and respect. I appreciate very much that you read this thread and dealt with it reasonably and appropriately.

I tried to do it with GE but can't anymore, and basically everybody else either 1) doesn't care 2) spams 3) is a player and just sticks to those forums 4) has opinions that aren't respected by a large group of people.
The community isn't big enough to have some indifferent person moderating things with an unbiased perspective. We all have friends here, we all will care about different things, and want different things. I think come is doing fine, the fact he is more distant from the boards lately is a good thing. While you may think he is biased against you, there is truth behind his actions.
Not to mention, there is no excuse to have more than 50 posts in a day. I'd have 146,000 posts at 50 per day. Hell, even with heated discussions across multiple forums I can't see getting 50 posts in a day.

Octo, you obviously can't keep a rate of 50/day no matter what circumstances, but if even on ONE day you need this many posts, then we should all have the freedom to be able to do it. Example of said day with running total at the end of each line:
Morning:
Wake up, post comments/discussion/questions in GE PR, WR discussion, legit fails, duped PRs, near dupes, vids and possibly PD PR topic. (7)
Also potentially post in all or most or some of GC's active topics, which could range up to 5 topics. (12)
Noon
Answer questions left by others about your comments from the morning, not in all 12 topics but to be fair let's say 5. (17)
Mid-Afternoon
Played some GE so now I need to post in the duped PR and legit fails topic, possibly PR or vid topic. (20)
Late Afternoon
People have commented on my GE PR or whatever and may be asking questions so I need to respond in the topics. (23)
Evening
Played more GE obviously, so a few more posts. Maybe others have played GE so I want to comment or ask something to them, or maybe others have asked or commented on my GC posts. Possibility for 10ish posts here (33)
Midnight-on
Playing more GE throughout the night and more comments or questions have appeared, along with stuff happening in GC, possibly some FFA polls or music topic posts. Easily room for 10-15 more posts here, we'll say 12. (45)
Throw in even one GE thread which is very active on a new strategy or controversy and that's easily 7-10 posts in there during the day.
We've easily eclipsed 50, legit posts in a day. Mind you, I'd have to be doing elite things all day, but pretty much every day for me is like this.
You've really gone out of your way in the past few days to be mean to me octo and I don't appreciate it.

I don't think it's unreasonable that people question your motives when you've had a history with spamming and you've made it clear that your goal is to pass Wouter in total posts before the end of the year (or whatever). If you want to get people to believe that you no longer care about these goals, you'll have to prove it with good behavior... I don't think it's a reasonable expectation to assume people will just trust you. You've been a controversial person in this community at times, so most people aren't willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.
You can't just post non-spam messages for two days and say "see? I've changed!". You have to keep this behavior up for several weeks before people will believe it. If you plan on it, cool. Just don't expect us to believe it until that time.

Of course putting a limit on your post count is harsh, but at the same time, 50 posts should be manageable and if you continue to have no-spam AND reach 50 posts/day, I'm sure it would be lifted. Nobody doesn't want you to post, and it doesn't really bug me personally - I pass over 80% of topics on these boards anyway =)

I agreed with this in my post right after Jon made this decision so I don't know why you went off saying "no one should ever post 50 posts in a day" and now you're saying I should post 50 good quality posts daily. You're flip flopping harder than the bikini shack here.

You might think that way Neo, but there are barely as many naysayers as there are those who feel that I am an integral part of the community who makes things more interesting either by making great posts on many occasions, being such a funny, light hearted guy, or sometimes stirring up controversy. Even Jon once said, and I quote "every community needs a villain." We even have a forum for the spam posts if you have to so put them in there. If you just did that nobody would have an issue with this.

People who actually post insightful comments and who are generally well liked by most people don't get capped. They also dont need to create topics to argue how important they are to the community. It doesn't matter what you think other people should think about you, the reality is that a lot of people don't have any time for you. Trying to convince people to like you by saying they are wrong is like trying to put out a fire by throwing coal onto it.
I think if you want this kind of event to stop happening you should be more alert to what is ACTUALLY being said by people and stop trying to convince people to say what you think they SHOULD be saying.

i do think you post a lot ryan but i dont think it should matter at the rate your going... you should be around 3200 post by the end of the year which means, that you posted 3200 times in one years so 10 post a day i guess is the average. i dont think it should matter how many times you post, maybe you start to many topics i dont know, i dont think it matters, but i can name at least 3 people who post just as much as you. i dont understand why your being punished

It's because Karl, when you post, your posts contain the grace of God, or if you don't believe in God, then your posts are those of a human with superhuman qualities. You simply are so good at summing everything up and adding in your opinion, which usually is the most neutral, correct one, into such a concise sentence that we all immediately understand what we should all have been doing and saying for the whole time and the thread is left at that. You truly are a role model and inspiration for us all.
