Looking back: x-stats and contest review
Without spending too much of your time in some silly opening paragraphs talking about how great this contest was and thanking people for participating, I present the..
2008 the-elite.net summer contest x-stats
THE TOP TEN
1) Wouter 50.0
Our contest winner, fully deserved it after many-a contest of close calls. The second GE pioneer, modern inspiration and community guru, 50% is well.. what the winner always gets!
2) octo 48.1
A runner-up two years in a row, it was hard to beat a dual champ, and harder to beat a Euro/GE-force on the cusp of his first championship. Octo kept it close, and has been the biggest contest threat over the last 2 years, despite not winning either!
3) illu 45.3
Illu could barely be stopped by Wouter, and his (and his opponents) x-stats reap the benefits. Illu didn't dominate anybody - but nobody could dominate him. A true staple of the community, his large fanbase stayed with him until the end.
4) infil 41.9
This years biggest story, infil steamrolled a few rounds before hitting a dead-end at Octo. His good performance against Octo earns him a top 4 slot!
5) DK 41.7
This years other big story, DK, took it to the final 4. To no fault of his own, he didn't stand up to Wouter like he did his other opponents, and falls in the rankings as a result
6) wabs 41.5
Wabs stood up to Illu, who stood up to Wouter. A consistent sweet-16 staple, wabs made it again this year, and probably will every year - we all just love the guy!
7) YE 41.0
He could have made the final 4 last year, but was quickly written off this year. Clearly a mistake - his victory over Boss and 1 vote loss to DK keeps him high in this years charts.
8 ) wiff 40.6
Like I said, Illu never steamrolled anybody, and his opponents took the benefit of it. Wiff may have bowed out in the second round, but is the biggest shocker in this years top 10. That isn't to say he didn't deserve it - wiff almost beat Boss a few years ago, and is one of the community's favorite guys.
9) boss 40.3
Last years champion didn't ring well with the community in 2008. Yet his GE/PD power and old school support kept him close enough in his loss to YE to keep him in the top 10.
10) come 37.7
Come did well against Infil, which will keep you in the top 10. Come, like the rest of our top 10, has been an elite staple for years, and his popularity in this contest was hard to steal.
THE NEXT TEN

12) PDO 36.4
13) SZ 36.4
14) matis 36.2
15) shade 36.1
16) youse 34.9
17) lovins 34.9
18 ) QB 34.7
19) marsh 33.7
20) jimbo 33.6
Everybody here did well against the top 10, and that is why they were able to stay this high in the rankings. A few comments, final 4 member shade fell to 15th after being SFFed by Octo, and we have two first round losers, matis and youse, in the sweet 16! Clearly a tough break for them.

Named to round out the top 32, these are the guys who you may have expected to win a first round match - had you not seen a bracket and only these stats!
Just a fun way to group these guys - all deserved there spots. A big shocker is patrik, all the way up at 33.2%. How'd he get it? Wiff didn't look so hot in his first round, despite ending up in the top 10. Patrik took the benefit of that! Other first and second round losers here (contradicting the name of this group) are... plenty! Shep fell gracefully, due to Shade's fall, and self-proclaimed final 4 favorite Goose nearly fell into the....

How many of these names did you groan at when you saw the bracket? Well if they're up there, they outperformed! This list is full of a lot of fun storys. Snap rose to the occasion in his first return to the bracket in a few years. Henning lost a nail biter to Neo, otto/axelZ/graham all tied in the first round to redbull, and wow those are some old school names down there in the 50s. Wait, matthijs ten ham? Talk about a fall from grace. Shep really kill him, and anybody in Shade's bracket had the unfortunate drop in standings after that SFF fest octo laid on them. A lot of these people lost nail biter first rounds, and still well deserve their spot on the rankings.
Unlike previous years, when 64th meant you really screwed the pooch, we're only half done! Some names in here you may expect to see in the top half, even in a 64 person bracket, and some of them... you probably never thought you'd see again before this contest started.

A ton of people got screwed here, and are really staples of the-elite and unfortunately ended up in the pits. There are simply way too many names for me to start talking about, I talked about basically everybody in the match-writeups. We did get a bagel this year, going sads way (how... sad *cringes*). The biggest "awwww" goes to mark rayson, one of my favorite guys here, who just got forgotten in octo's first round match.

Anyway, I'm not sure what Jon usually does about those funny awards every year, but I can't think of many, and have forgotten a lot of the matches. I'd just like to say thank you to everybody who helped run this years contest, and especially DK for taking all the votes and doing such a fantastic job.
I look forward to next year's contest, and whatever crazy twist jon puts on it! Even in the last month, things have changed at the-elite, and potential success in next season's contest is up in the air. I'd like to see Clark back in it, and lets see if DK can continue the 3rd place to victory trend next season.
