Hello Elite, and welcome to the 2008-2009 edition of The Elite College Bowl Pick'em
It's simple, just pick which teams you think will win each bowl, as well as your confidence rank for each pick
Because QB reminded me that we usually do this on ESPN, I created this group!

I bet against the big 10 as my main strategy here. I took my 34, 33, 32, 31, 30 and 29 confidence picks all against big 10 teams. It has worked to a 3-0 tune so far.
A lot of these bowl games have been very close. I can't remember seeing so many games come down to the end.

Utah, after tonights dominating win over Alabama deserves at least a share of the national championship.

Eh, but people will say the same after the Texas demolishes OSU. And people already have said the same after USC blew up PSU while the Pac 10 went 5-0 behind them.
Need a playoff to solve this!

i never watch utah or alabama play, but the game tonight was actually fun to watch, thats how football games should be played, just everyone giving their all for 60 minutes

this is just one of the few years where the national championship really is in doubt*.
If we had a playoff*...
USC vs Texas might not have happened, OSU vs Miami, and a few other classic games (ok, you can take FSU vs OU and that crap and a few times where 3 teams were in the mix and this season where 4 teams have a legitimate case [well not Texas as losing to Tech was the worst loss of the group]
There's the good with the bad in a playoff. The biggest issue really though is when to do it and where to do it. You can't have random teams hosting in the middle of January (because I'm darn sure the NCAA won't allow the 20 below wind chill games) and the regular season is already pushing finals week as it is.
You'd have to cut a regular season game for everyone and that'll never happen because of $$$$ for the bigger schools that host that. (also why a playoff will never happen--all the BCS conferences and especially any school that isn't a playoff team would LOSE money under a playoff system [they have some kind of conference revenue sharing from the teams that make the BCS game])
*actually even a playoff may not work--see Miami vs OSU where the refs screwed Miami out of a national title.
Not to mention the individual bowls would lose $$$ and whenever serious money like that is involved nothing will ever change. Heck even getting the BCS in the first place was a huge improvement over the old system where everyone was pretty much locked into their opponent and bowl game so there weren't any fun national title games like there are now.

My strategy of picking against the big 10 with my highest confidence picks ended up going 6-0. I won my 34, 33, 32, 31, 30 and 29 confidence level picks using this strategy. As for the actual standings, QB takes the win over myself for the 2nd straight season. I think I'm going to lose to you by 2 or 3 points this year and if I remember correctly, lost by 1 point to you last year. Nice job on those picks. We've been neck in neck in fantasy competition a lot lately. Even the fantasy baseball came down to the wire.
Wheat, who do you like in the national title game? I think Florida wins it and I feel pretty confident in that pick. Oklahoma always seems to stumble in big games vs non big 12 teams. I think my ESPN pick was Florida 33-24, but that was a long time ago that I predicted that score.

Good championship game, just got hurt by the conservative play calling on our two drive inside the 10 in the first half.

Florida vs. Oklahoma in BCS Title game.
Any other football fans annoyed this is on fucking Fox with 2 no-name commentators? It's the college football national championship! I've been looking forward to this game for a month, now I'm disappointed.
Last Oklahoma possession, they had it on Florida's 2-yard line and 2nd down, but somehow these guys thought it was 3rd. Florida got a stop on 2nd down, then another on 3rd, and they thought it was 4th down and started yelling about what a huge 4th down stop it was. Then Oklahoma lined up for the real 4th down and they finally realized they had been wrong...retards.

I watched some. Commentators were awful, lost interest real fast. Thom Brennaman isn't a "no name" commentator. I'm assuming the other was Charles Davis then? I didn't watch the game long enough to remember (I only caught 3 minutes actually in the 4th lol).
That said from all accounts I heard he was pretty bad from the Tebow love. If Davis was the other one then you guys are out of your minds so I'll have to assume it wasn't.
They could've been "networkized" as well for this game too I suppose.
Yeah I made that word up so I'll define it
networkized--verb means that the network tells them to do/say stupid shit to make qualified people appear stupid and suck at their jobs.

Regardless, he was terrible and it made the game boring.
I don't understand why they have big games throughout the season on ABC/CBS/ESPN (and which all had better/more reputable commentators as well), but not the biggest game of the year.
