What was the song of 2008? In 20 years, which song will be remembered as being representative of 2008? Which song was the biggest, most blasted beat of the year?
Note only songs that were released in 2008, or peaked in either the US Billboard Hot 100 or United World Chart in 2008 are listed.
Don't bitch about how your favorite metal song is the best song of 2008. I don't fucking care. These songs are quite clearly the list of biggest songs this year.
Read 2nd post for links to the music videos; linking in a poll doesn't work.

The only song that's vaguely worth caring about in that list is Viva La Vida.

ugh (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsick.gif&hash=147d83ab69333060437ede2e0058676600b3ea8c)
that list is absolutely dastard! but i would have to agree with Durk-o-matic. Coldplay easily rules that pathetic list! the music industry is a sad sad place (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ffrown.gif&hash=9bb8520656650a7c2457ae0ae2ee8996e4109fd6)

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart.
Released in 2007, didn't chart anywhere and I sincerely doubt significant airplay...
-
2007 roflcopters... you mean 1980?
ian curtis has been dead for decades now. maybe you are looking at the re-release dates
i think it actually chated at around 20th spot in 1980 or 83 on the British charts or something, but it remains as one of the greatest post-punk songs ever
-
There was a re-release of it in 2007 Luke, which I'm sure is the one Clemens was alluding to.
-
Actually no I had no idea it was rereleased under Warner.
It debuted as #1 in New Zealand in 1980 hahaha.
-
haha thats awesome
-
all those songs suck. fuck that, bring out the rock!
-
lol dont bitch about your metal songs of 2008, actually though 2008 was a great year for metal. but yeah they didnt do sales like other bands did that in are pop or whatever those songs are from, though i heard a ton of them played over and over in bars/clubs
-
cold play owns them all
-
You mean the part where they ripped off Satriani?
-
I don't think it's as clear-cut as you're making out, Matt....
-
ROFL at that country/hip-hop list. No rock, metal or alternative (Vampire Weekend anyone?). I would probably say Viva La Vida, though.
-
uh, there's no country on that list.
-
also lol at you thinking Vampire Weekend had any big songs this year that got 1000s of spins on the radio and everyone in the world was singing along to...
-

HSM3 Soundtrack was one of the biggest soundtracks of '08, so you're not doing too bad there Fan. Lovins, Handlebars was pretty big so you're on the right track. However it was not of the same size as the songs listed.
This feels like teaching pop culture 101 to kindergarten kids (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ffrown.gif&hash=9bb8520656650a7c2457ae0ae2ee8996e4109fd6)

Ugh Eddie beat me to it, definitely Handlebars!
-
Sorry, I saw All Summer Long and assumed there would be a Carrie Underwood song on there also.
If we're talking about biggest, most blasted beat of the year, it would be All Summer Long, Lollipop or Handlebars.

Mars Volta, Goliath

There's no Carrie Underwood on this list Tyler because this isn't 2007, where Before He Cheats was indeed one of the biggest, most played, most known tracks of the year. This is 2008 and none of Carrie's singles were as large. Associating Kid Rock with country is also silly, given he is mostly a rap artist, but do what you please I suppose.
I also somewhat agree with Durk.
