I was at all 6 Team Canada games and went to 10 games total in my 11 day stay in Ottawa. (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fhappy.gif&hash=7b9cd982f9a41f9aefcd7ea74682d5f1e4caf4c6)

Yeah I was there for the Russia game. The atmosphere was craziest at the USA/Canada game on New Years though. It was just overly intense against Russia... the scent of death was in the air. People were crying and falling down all over the place after Eberle tied it up with 5 to go though. Really a magical moment and cool thing to experience first hand at the game (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsmile.gif&hash=1adea417e08e9042f9ce1a5426616bf29f2ca20e)

Stealing 2nd row seats (since no one was there) for Canada's 15-0 routing of Kazakhstan wasn't too shabby either (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsmile.gif&hash=1adea417e08e9042f9ce1a5426616bf29f2ca20e)

And Finland also takes Magic Worlds last year.  So they take the GE Multiplayer Crown and Magic Individuals.  I guess I had no right to compete.

But you probably don't believe that.

I wanted to make a big sign that said "SWEDEN PEES SITTING DOWN" and another that said "BOJGAVEL" but my friends said these were too offensive so I went with more family oriented signs instead.

Stefan Persson is just upset that his team lost the IIHF World Under 20 championships. Too bad for you Stefan! Maybe you'd have done better if your goalie wasn't such a diving pussy.

Hardly anyone in Europe likes Hockey, this would be like me or another english boasting we beat the USA 5-0 in football as non of you americans would care as its not a sport you are into much. The same goes here.

rofl Fal... hardly anyone in the UK likes hockey, but hockey has a big following in Sweden, Finland, Russia, Germany and many more countries. Hockey is much more popular in Europe than American Football or Baseball...

i'm a big ice hockey fan (it annoys me when people don't put ice in front, there is a seperate sport called hockey you now!. )I remember when tony hand went to the nfl and we were hailing it as the start of a team GB revival. We still suck and never male the A competions. We were delighted when Germany only beat us 3-0 once.
i still go to oxford stars games when i can

But annoyingly in World competition i was a sweden fan and my mum canada, so she lauded that one over me

Seriously i have been to one Ice Hockey match and that was Sheffield Steelers Vs Coventry Blaze or something, it was tedious. Football is the #1 sport throughout europe, and i think more people would actually care about the result if it was football.

Thats the only point i am trying to make, and i am under no illusions that there are followers of Ice Hockey around Europe.

From your wiki article: Ice hockey is popular in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.

There are plenty of major professional leagues in Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic... you're just putting your bias into this Fal. We're not asking you to enjoy hockey, as you clearly don't, and that's fine, because we don't want people like you in our sport. But ice hockey is indeed popular in Europe (infinitely less popular than soccer of course) but it's still one of the most popular team sports in Europe behind soccer and basketball.

Of course a British pro game would be tedious. Most 20 year old Canadian guys who are still playing hockey could get offered pro contracts in England (seriously.) They only maybe like 25k/year but still it would be fun as hell to play hockey for a living for a few years (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsmile.gif&hash=1adea417e08e9042f9ce1a5426616bf29f2ca20e)

To be fair Goose, i may have my own bias in this but if this topic was about football or any other sport which isn't popular in the USA or Canada then you would say the the exact same.

I have no qualms with Ice Hockey as a sport, hell if you check my gamercard i have played and completed a few NHL games and they were fun to play but to watch it is just like watching golf and cricket. That is just my opinion, you love it and i don't doubt that. It is just not for me.

We're not talking about opinion AT ALL in this discussion. We are talking about whether or not ice hockey is popular in Europe, which, objectively, it is. You're making a fool out of yourself Ian.

Also, objectively, soccer is popular in North America as well.  In Canada there are actually more kids registered playing soccer than there are playing hockey.  Do I like soccer as much as hockey?  No, but it is also very popular here.

If there are that many people registered playing football in Canada then why can't Canada produce a good international football team? Is it a lack of ambition by the football federation over there or do people just not take it as seriously as europeans do?

Ryan i wasn't making a fool out of myself, i was simply stating that not many people will care about sweden getting beat. I haven't seen Jim/Axel for example in here defending their country, gamingguru obviously posted this topic to take the piss out of the swedes but is there actually any swedish people who like ice hockey in the elite? If there is, it is very minimal so its a pointless topic in my opinion but you seem to think this isn't about opinion. At the end of the day i have stated my opinion of the sport, and as you even agreed in chat that ice hockey isn't liked in the majority of Europe. Lets end this discussion, i have said my piece and i appreciate your input.

Nice debate, Ryan! (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ftongue.gif&hash=7cfc888ebd66cf455a55fd5e124ee8267da91148)

Axel Andersson likes ice hockey somewhat. We've had a few conversations about it before.

and in regards to Canada sucking at soccer it is indeed a lack of ambition by our soccer federation. Most of the money is put into ice hockey and the large number that are registered in soccer leagues around Canada play at a very low competitive level.

I used to like Hockey; I had like over 1500 hockeycards, plenty of hockey magazines, I watched the games from Swedens highest division on the tele (sometimes they showed old NHL matches, I remember I liked watching that, also once a week there was a program called "News from the NHL" which I never missed), I played NHL 2000 ALOT (easily the best NHL game imo) I even played hockey myself for a year or two, but then my interest in hockey just decreased awfully fast. I got tired of it and moved on to soccer, which is way more funnier, both to play and watch (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsmile.gif&hash=1adea417e08e9042f9ce1a5426616bf29f2ca20e)

Now, I'm only watching Hockey during olympics; it's a shame no one takes World Cup more serious.

Is this topic about Hockey? Someone from Kenya could probably name more Swedish hockey players than me.

Let's put our diffferences aside in this needless debate: simply enough, soccer players are the biggest pansies in all of sport. The only one taking more dives than all of the european soccer nation is the swedish hockey goaltender. Soccer is for lame scrawny long greasy-haired gringoes who don't have big enough balls of their own to play with. The only European sport with any gull is rugby, and that's a real fucking man's game. Soccer is for sissy little girls and talentless little bitches who are afraid of a little contact. Quite frankly if soccer was my continents sport I'd rather be caught in a dress skiing two mexican trannies. HAIL HOCKEY! LONG LIVE CANADA!     xXsoccer is teh deepthroatXx
