Post by: Jimbo on January 06, 2009, 04:32:00 pm
Well I suppose I could have said 12 years of experience but how gay would that have been, sounds like a made-up number! And no Ryan, you wouldn't ever be better.

I've always wanted an electronic set because where I live does not allow for an acoustic, but I couldn't justify many thousands especially since it's not the "real thing". I had no idea you played, how long have you been playing drums? I've got double-digit years experience in all percussion and I thought no one else played! >_<

One of the most important rules of this board is not mention drums.. Otherwise Jimbo will start trying to brag again.

Give me a year and I'll be better at drums than Jimbo.

I can learn any instrument in a year and be better at it than any other eliter, with the exception of Hugo, Durk, Wiff and Karl, but that's only if you give me guitar, trumpet or piano.

But I'm good at piano.

And have the potential to be better at drums than Jimbo.

But I won't do it, since I know I have the potential anyways.

I've been playing guitar for 7 months. I'm clearly as good as Jimi Hendrix.

When you say this drum set is not "the real thing" it makes me guess that you have never played a roland td-20... go to guitar center and play a roland td-12, then think 3000$ more in perfection...
If I sucked at drumming I would have spent 1-2 thousand on a drum set, but your limited to how well you play with what you have... so I believe in the best.. also I just bought a 1000$ PA system.

The reason I bought this drum set was because it's the best electronic drum set there is. It also plays just like an acoustic set. Everything feels almost exactly like a real drum set.

For instance, the cymbals can make multiple sounds... if you hit it with your stick flat you get a different sound than you would if you hit it with the tip of the stick or on the rim of it... also on the ride if you hit the inner portion of the cymbal you get a bell sound (ding). the toms feel great, also if you hit the rim (rimshot) you also get another sound, the high hat opens and closes. Neil Peart from rush has this drum set and Daniel Erlandsson from Arch Enemy has this as well. If I close my door and you were standing outside of it no one can hear it.

Since I live in a neighborhood an acoustic set would be way to loud. I had one in my garage from 01-02 but I played with the garage closed and it made everything way way way to loud. I also had to make sure my neighbors were not home when I played so since then I have not had a drum set. I sometimes played at my friends house when I went over or to guitar center. I usually play death metal songs. I think this drumming is the best and most up beat/fast tempo which is what I love to play (fast double bass).

Drums also are not hard to learn... but its more of developing twitch muscles and muscle strength/cordination.. with that takes time

"Drums also are not hard to learn... but its more of developing twitch muscles and muscle strength/cordination.. with that takes time"

That is complete and utter horseshit. Re: third paragraph - it's the least you'd expect from an electronic kit nowadays, no? Also, not that it effects you, but you obviously can't do brushwork properly on an electronic kit, and there's nowhere near enough versatility in the snare sound for a lot of music's needs.

Durk. Do yourself a favor, and go play on one of these. Ryan said he could learn drums in one year, well of course you can learn how to play them in one year. Now you wouldnt be the best but thats ok. you can build coordination in that time, not to the best but pretty good... i guess if you just naturally dont have rythem like some baddies then it will take you longer.

Brush work...i dont even have one to do it. unless i was playing jazz or country i guess i would use one.

RE: horseshit? can you double bass? or do doubles at really fast tempo? do you have double bass pedals? cause if you do then you would know that to play really fast tempos does not happen over night, you have to build up to those speeds.... if you do jazz drum im not saying its bad at all, derek roddy, use to drum for nile and other death metal bands but also plays jazz music very well... same as george kollias.

of course electronic kits are not the "exact" same as acoustic... but this kit is as close as you can get... plus its quiet with headphones... or loud with a pa... something acoustic sets dont do...

I suggest you all start making music in stead of discussing the technical aspects of it, which is totally irrelevant imo. In any case, you bought a really good drumset, I've played on one before as well, it totally rocks indeed. Hopefully, you'll be able to fully express all your creativity on it! GOGOGOGOOOOOOOO

I didn't say I could learn them in a year. I said I could be better than Jimbo in a year. And I took it a step further and said I could be better than any eliter at any instrument in a year, with the exceptions of durk, Hugo and wiff on keys, (although I already play keys,) durk on trumpet and Karl on guitar.

Tbh i'm happy with having spent a sixth of the price on a great acoustic kit and using practice pads.

Also re: my first post, i don't think i mentioned double bass drum once. It's not the be-all and end-all of drumming, you know.

EDIT: For the record Ryan i play trombone, not trumpet (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Flaugh.gif&hash=657f1346088ce2081c398c7379c3a47e4cf5861b)

I know but when you play double bass you have to build up muscle... so thats what I was getting at when i said it takes time.

also my friend plays trombone though i hate brass instruments lol.
