Title: A Message to the Administration [agreement reached]
Post by: RWG on January 22, 2009, 04:38:00 pm
I really would like to keep this between the admin and I, but unfortunately they haven't been responding to e-mails and support messages so it appears I have no other option but to post it here.

I recently have had my cap lowered to 20 posts per day.  Now here I am, running a GE tournament where people who's AIM SN's I don't have are asking me questions non-stop and I am about to defend my title at "who is here the most" contest, which involves posting (for me) at least 24 times per day, even if I don't post in any other topics, since I will likely sacrifice my life for 5 days to win it again.  This is currently impossible with my current posting limits and therefore I am at a severe handicap for this contest.

If you may, I will suggest a few solutions I find reasonable.  Please, I entreat you to read them over and follow through with what is right.

1) Remove my post cap entirely and hope that the extra responsibility and trust instilled in me will cause me to become a better poster by your standards.  Is it not possible that my label as "spammer, troll, attention whore, shit poster" is what causes me to be one?  Get rid of those unwritten titles and maybe I won't be one.

2) Remove my post cap and ban me from all forums except for Goldeneye and FFA.

3) Create my own sub-forum entitled "Goose's Gulag" or "Goose's Garbage Dump" or whatever you like, similar to Come's Palace of Pwnage.  After all, he did pretty much what I am doing (worse in fact) and got his own sub-forum.  It would be a forum just like FFA or the Spamtown and I would ask that you remove my post cap, ban me from all other forums, and make me a moderator of my own forum (so that I can make a few stickies such as "Goldeneye Topic," "General Discussion Topic," "Requests to have someone post this in X topic (for signing up for elite contests and things.)

I really believe that all of the aforementioned are reasonable solutions.  I hope we can come to a solution that mutually satisfies both parties.

Lastly, I will be posting this exact topic in General Chat every day until something is done.  When it gets closed or moved, I will post it again.  If I get banned, I will make new users and post nothing but this topic every day until something gets done.  Once the Goldeneye tournament is over, if this is still not taken care of, I will post nothing but this message.  This is to ensure that you do not hide from your problems but rather man up and face them like they should be faced.

Best regards,
Ryan White

There's no need to "threat" with things as "if you don't do this, I will do this and that." Nevertheless I agree with you, and I think your post cap should maybe be removed, since you have not spammed so much lately. I've always (not sure of always) said that you post a lot, but don't spam a lot.
Although I think you should keep your posts a bit more friendly, since your posts are sometimes very personal and offending. I think Carathorn is doing a good job from holding you back from the PD boards now when you are trash talking, and from what I can see you're not making a big deal out of it which only implies that you know you were being an ass when you posted the deleted post.
Apart from that I in fact like people who post a lot on the boards, since it keeps checking the boards quite entertaining, and you are definitely one of the most active posters, so all in all I I wouldn't mind a cap remove.

i beg to differ... you don't really like me and you think that i post waaaaaay to much.  i don't think i even post 1/3 of what Goose posts and 99.987% of my posts are friendly and my cap is 15 per day!  pretty lame, but i suppose it isn't the end of the world since i only post an average of 10 or 11 per day... just sayin

and i know for a fact that Goose is not lying about contacting admin/support, because i never get replies either, but like i said... oh well (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ftongue.gif&hash=7cfc888ebd66cf455a55fd5e124ee8267da91148)

Anyone who signs up for the "Who Is Here the Most" competition will earn 10 uncapped days starting with Day One of the Contest.

EDIT - (Naturally though, if they abuse that privilege outside of the Contest topic it will have to be taken away again.)

EDIT2 - This was not a decision on The Goose Ultimatum.  This was simply an announcement.

That doesn't help me when I get asked 21 different questions at different times on the boards about the GE tournament.

Read the article again and make your decision again.

EDIT - No Jon.  You give me 10 uncapped days and I will post 1000 times/day in FFA.  It's my right to do so and does not hurt anyone.

EDIT 2 - Okay.

Karl, I obviously know this procedure, but you know, it's the only leverage I have. So please don't think I am dumb. I'm just playing it for a reason.

Yeah, I don't think you should have a cap or anyone should have a cap.  I like when people post a lot, keeps this place alive I think.

A few things to consider:

On Jan 1 2008, I made a deal with Jon that I could post on the boards provided I made no personal attacks, used only one username and did not spam

I went ahead and did this fine for a couple of months. I perhaps started a few personal attacks during the summer contest, but those are unusual circumstances where you are trying to manipulate people into voting for you. None of these were real personal attacks and were rather vote rallies.

In early September, I was posting a lot (understandably so, given I had just returned from 2 months away.) I made a "personal 502 thread" in FFA and another thread where I boasted my 101 posts in 2 days, which come both CLOSED (no moderation in FFA?) and immediately gave me a posting cap. Not only this, but he left the quantity of posts I could make daily it to chance (a dice roll in chat.) Where did he get the idea to leave justice to chance from? No Country for Old Men? The Dark Knight? That wasn't a very mature administrative move.

The cap was at 20. I pleaded my case and got it bumped up to 50. I was not told at the time, but I was also capped at 5 new topics per day and found out a few months later when I did make 5 topics in a day.  I was pleased with a 50 post limit because only under very rare circumstances one posts over 50 times daily.  I wasn't fully satisfied though, since I was worried about these rare circumstances, but I accepted my punishment for my actions.  Also worth noting is that part of the deal was that every spam post or personal attack I made would take one post off my cap.

In January 09 after Clemens' fake Ace unwhoard, I reacted poorly and understandably had my limit dropped to 40. Then a week later, after behaving since I felt responsible for my actions, I inexplicably had my cap drop down to 20. For what reason? I did not make 20 spam posts or personal attacks in that week. This is simply unfair and the admins did not keep their word on this part of the table.

What's even more interesting is that I did spam and make personal attacks from September to January and did not have my cap lowered ever. I probably spammed over 50 times and made about 300 personal attacks, yet my cap was still at 50. What does this show?

a) admin are liars and don't keep their word on their side of deals
b) admin don't care about what I do
c) admin couldn't follow all my posts, were preoccupied, or many other reasons showing they are inept to perform their task at admin.

In a) or c), there is really nothing I can do since it would then be obvious that we are all being treated unjustly by unqualified administrators.

In b), this would show that since they don't care about my actions, there is no point in moderating me. I'm not hurting anyone or causing anyone stress, and if you ask most eliters they will say I bring activity to the forum, which is a good thing; ergo, I shouldn't even have a cap for these actions, especially given not even the admin care about what I do.

Just some interesting things I think people need to know.

So according to the rule we agree on you should currently be limited to somewhere around negative 300 posts per day. Instead, you're still being allowed to post 20 times.

It sounds as though you have been granted an extremely gracious compromise by the current administration.

Sounds to me like the administration doesn't reliably uphold rules, so anything they do or say is null.

Goose, you make a good point. You're clearly working toward making the Elite a more active and entertaining place- why shouldn't you be rewarded for your productive contributions? That's why I think it's high time for a new system to be put in place.

The Goose Upgrades

* for successful completion of the Goldeneye Team Competition, Goose will earn...
+ 15 posts
+ 1 topic

* for successful completion of hosting the 2009 Elite Dance-Off, Goose will earn...
+ 8 posts
+ 1 topic

* for successful completion of hosting the 2009 "Who Is Here the Most" contest, Goose will earn...
+ 12 posts
+ 1 topic

Keep in mind, however, that in keeping with our agreement it will still be possible for daily posts to be lost due to things like personal attacks. But if you're really ready to turn over a new leaf and shed all of your negative labels, I'm sure that won't be an issue.

It's called a Dance-Battle, and although I'm clearly getting the short end of the straw here, I will have to accept your deal because it's the best I'm going to get.

/negotiation...

for now

Could I get an update on my current limits?

Bullshit on the "only finding out months later I was capped at 5 new topics a day" line. You knew THAT SAME DAY because you were bitching and moaning about it in chat!

It's amazing you call everyone else a liar when you're the worst of the lot, Ryan.
