Title: Topic of the Week Starting March 22 - Travel
Post by: RWG on March 23, 2009, 11:53:00 pm
Discussion topic: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?  What would you do there?  What would you hope to experience there?  Use your imagination and be adventurous!  You don't have infinite money, but you have enough to do what you want.

Personally, I would enjoy going on a 100ish day world cruise.  I have never been on a cruise, but my parents went on a cruise in Europe a few years ago.  A world cruise is long and I think it would be wonderful to see as much of the world as possible.  Whether you believe in creation or evolution, we are blessed and lucky to live on this Earth, so why take anything for granted?

Less philosophically, I think it would be great to throw your cares away for 3+ months and do something very few others have been lucky to do.  I remember my parents telling me of all the exciting shows and such that happen on the boat itself late at night; the meals, the room you can sit in and do a 10000 piece puzzle late at night over a scotch... there are just so many options and you have so much freedom.  I just imagine falling in love with a beautiful girl like in Titanic and going on the front of the bow and feeling like you are indeed the king of the world.  These are the sorts of things I would like to experience in this journey.

I think it would be interesting to go to many countries of the world as well.  Yes, you are likely only visiting port cities which thrive off tourism, but it can certainly give insight to what the various people of the world are like.  I think it would be a great experience that would help fulfill one's life and if it were in my means, I would certainly attempt to do it.  Hopefully it does become within my means one day (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsmile.gif&hash=1adea417e08e9042f9ce1a5426616bf29f2ca20e)

So... how about you?

This house in town on a road I used to live on as a little kid when we lived in town. It's about 3 blocks from where I used to live, on the same road. I'd get there in my car. Then I'd show up and talk to the girl that lives there and we would get married.

I've not seen much of the world, and haven't been outside Europe. So for me it would probably be something like an African or Asian country to experience what's going on there and get a big culture clash or something. Maybe wouldn't stay too long, a few weeks would suit me. Traveling alone would make things a bit scarier, but on the other hand more interesting.

I know this isn't any where in the world but I've always dreamed of going to the moon. I know it doesn't look all that appealing to most people but for some reason I really want to go there. In this world though I'd really want to go to Antarctica to do snowboarding. One, because I think it's the place where the least amount of people have gone too so you'd assume it would be the least unexplored and two, because I really enjoy snowboarding.

I love to travel and I can think of going everywhere in the world. Like Goose said, a world cruise would be great adventure. I often wonder if there are any person who has been to every country in the world. I doubt it, but that would be my dream; naturally it would take years.

If I had to choose only one place to go to I really don't know where I would go to. There are too many worth seeing cities and places in the world that I just can't chooe one; here are some of my dream destinations:

Hollywood and San Fransisco
Monument Valley/Grand Canyon
Kilimanjaro - Would be epic to climb that mountain
Burj Dubai - Tallest tower in the world
Canada in general; especially CN Tower
New York

Like I said I would like to go everywhere, but the ones I mentioned above are my dream destinations.

I've already been to Hong Kong and Singapore so Asia doesn't entice me that much. Same with Australia/New Zealand (however I do would like to visit Ayers Rock/Uluru cause I didn't do that last time) South America, I don't know, I know to little about that continent, Machu Pichu, Rio de Janeiro would be interesting, but they don't entice me as much as the ones I mentioned above; same with Egypt and the Pyramids. I've been to quite many European countires already, but not in Russia so maybe I would like to go there if I had to choose one place in Europe.

Anywhere good where I could earn some nice money, learn new languages and get to meet nice places and everything.. but if I had like a lot of money, I'd make a huge trip around Europe

i'd take a trip with my wifey to New Zealand and prolly scout out the filming locations for the Lord of the Rings and go see them without a tour guide (no need for the hussle and bussle)

i also think that England would be fun to visit, but prolly with the right buddy, so that checking out pubs and whatforth would be entertaining and so on...

i'm pretty fortunate being in the Navy cuz i'm guaranteed to check some new place out roughly every 3 years on the government's dime (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsmile.gif&hash=1adea417e08e9042f9ce1a5426616bf29f2ca20e) (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fwink.gif&hash=4979046fbfc7ed25a03644bf608e503c4aa73f0f)

ironically also the titanic's nightmare--the last time it met an object bigger than itself...

I'd probably go out west and try to catch octo/infil as those are really the only 2 eliters I haven't met on the I should probably meet these guys list aside from overseas but I'm not really into the landmarks over there (wow a big fucking clock and a tower that wasn't constructed right (and they still have to push it up every bit to keep it like that)=laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame)  [actually come to think of it a damn bridge and cold and hockey isn't really that much better]

Wheat's quite happy doing far more interesting things like poker and baseball preds than seeing world-famous monuments, travelling and learning about other cultures.

Amazon Rainforest http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Rainforest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Rainforest)

Stonehenge http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonehenge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonehenge)

Chichen Itza http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chichen_Itza (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chichen_Itza)

Religious & Spiritual
Taj Mahal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taj_Mahal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taj_Mahal)
Christ the Redeemer http://en.wikipedia.org/w...st_the_Redeemer_(statue) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_the_Redeemer_(statue))
Notre Dame de Paris http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_Dame_de_Paris (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_Dame_de_Paris)
Sistine Chapel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sistine_Chapel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sistine_Chapel)
Mecca http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecca (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecca)

Modern
Red Square http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Square (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Square)
Eiffel Tower http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiffel_Tower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiffel_Tower)
Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial http://en.wikipedia.org/w...an_Cemetery_and_Memorial (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normandy_American_Cemetery_and_Memorial)

I'm probably forgetting many and would be open to adding way more than I have listed.  I'm sure there are 100s of these.

Stuff like the Leaning Tower of Pisa or the Empire State Building are way lame compared to the shit I just posted, however they can still be great things to see... they are just further down the list.

I also think there are some "experiences" which would be great to see.  Like seeing the Serengeti Migration (this is covered well in the pilot for Planet Earth) but also seeing something like the Super Bowl, World Cup final, or a concert of a timeless band or performer like U2, Prince, Madonna or the Rolling Stones would be on this kind of list.

I really sympathize for Wheat with his opinion on this... call me a dreamer, but finding a girl I fall in love with and traveling to Africa to watch Gazelle and Elephants cross the Serengeti, visiting and appreciating the Normandy beaches and memorials with family, or experiencing the thrill of being at the NHL Stanley Cup Finals with some great friends... there is just too much in life to pass up.

This is why I am so interested in pop culture, current events, sports, geography, religion and the like.  Obama's inauguration will go down as one of these events that is timeless and just living during it is noteworthy.  People need to start appreciating things in life and be a part of their generation, while experiencing and respecting the past.  If you don't care about these things, I think you will live a far less fulfilled life and I deeply feel sorry for you.

On a personal level, I'd like to visit Hudson Bay.  It is such a dominant, well known piece of Canadian geography, yet hardly anyone has ever gone up there and seen it.

After google buys out thengamer.com for $250 million, me and my cousin are going to backpack across Europe. Every night we'll stay at the home of a different Eliter- first BloodE, then Shep, then an extended stay at Durk's. Later on we'll perhaps visit Australia as well, if we can find a way to do so while avoiding Neo.
