Yahoo is closing geocities later this year.

You can no longer register as a new member, and all geocities pages will be taken down later this year.  So a great many time pages are going to be affected.  They're saying they'll give you options to save your site data later this summer, but it'll probably be a bunch of bullshit "Upgrade to a blah blah account for $9.95 a month and we'll transfer your old account for free!" type thing.

So if you've got a timepage on geocities, I'd move it somewhere else.  Don't know what will happen with timepages for inactive members...

Thanks for the heads up ST, I've made copies of everything on my three geocities sites and uploaded them to my ngamer folder at the SRW so that nothing will be lost. Frankly this news isn't that unexpected though... I mean Yahoo was asking people to pay $5 a month for 25 MB of server space, in the year 2009. I'm only surprised that they didn't give up trying three or four years ago.

I think the best solution here would be for people to save their geocities times page to their desktop, rename it FirstnameLastname.html, and upload it to their private subdomain at thengamer or the SRW. For those who don't have space yet on either site, let's use these folders:

http://thengamer.com/GE/99-TimesPages/ (http://thengamer.com/GE/99-TimesPages/) for all GE pages and

http://thengamer.com/PD/99-TimesPages/ (http://thengamer.com/PD/99-TimesPages/) for all PD pages.

And if you don't have a thengamer account to be able to move your page over, ask for one here and I'll get you set up.

LTK or DLTK or whatever is fine, just call the page BrandonSanfordLTK.html But if you have lots of other times pages for other games, that would be a better fit for your personal web space.

If you don't know how to log in and upload things to thengamer or your personal space, get a hold of Cara on AIM and he will explain it for you.

I wish I understood all this tech talk. I'm sure its easy but im dumb when it comes to understanding what has to be done. Maybe I'll go on aim on my phone some time and have the computer on as well. (cant download aim on this cpu). Thanks for the help Jon sorry to hear that Geocity is going to start charging.
