If you take a look at the board top, you will notice there is a link for the Poll of the Week. Unfortunately, the poll one gets directed to is about 18 months old. The subject of that poll asks about what you would like to see changed on the elite boards. I think now would be a good time to suggest a few things you'd like to have changed with the elite or the elite boards.
Please don't turn this into a flame war on the current mods, admin and staff, as that is not the reason for this thread. I'm sure we all have a few ideas here and there, so why not brainstorm some things which would improve our much beloved place of leisure?
What things do you suggest to improve the elite?
Here are my suggestions;
-Get rid of outdated links on the-elite mainpage. These include Proven GE Records, Proven PD Records, Pointless Times.
-A link to theeliteWRvids (http://www.youtube.com/user/theeliteWRvids (http://www.youtube.com/user/theeliteWRvids)) on the-elite mainpage in the same place as the link to the other GE's fastest videos as this is the most currently updated source of WR videos and I plan on keeping it that way.
-My own subforum.
Suggest anything you'd like to see happen with the elite. Any retarded posts will cause me to bitch at Shep or DK to delete them.

Instead of subforums- how bout eliters sign up to make a weekly blog? Anybody is allowed to blog, and it may be about any topic, but it must be appropriate.

I used to think that the-elite homepage should have more dynamic stuff, with people posting more regularly and everything.. but we have a lack of activity, so there isn't much to post anyway. But yeah, clean broken links and put some different ones are essential!
One thing I'd do is make an area for a youtube video (right on the main page), which would show a different WR video everytime you enter. This kind of thing is nice to get some new people.

i like virtually everything that Jon, Come and others have done to make this place what it is so i guess my only suggestion is a personal one. i don't know if Come or Jon will ever see this or respond to it, but i would very much appreciate a lift on my daily post limit. i am a very reasonable person and am all about fairness and being just and i can see no reason at all why i should STILL be capped. i am just trying to post this somewhere it might be seen AND responded to by those who can lift it. i appreciate any attention that Come and Jon might give this request. In fact, we were getting a team together to re-do the-elite.net. My suggested mainpage would have been two basic sections.. a GE and PD. We'd have only the current relevant links, an updated "top vids" page, and a featured embedded video for each game.
Our goal was to make the-elite.net a place to go, whereas right now it is a place to pass through on your way to somewhere else.
Never happened, not sure why, but that is my main suggestion. We need a real homepage. Real updates on it, video links, etc. Basically, a real staff in general, maintaining a homepage that is even worth a bookmark (which I don't have for the-elite.net).

The main page certainly needs to see some activity as it tends to go months without any updates, maybe take some quotes from the weeks forum discussion or whats been talked about most and put them on the front page. That way when new people come to the website at least they can still see an active community and see how we are so they eventually sign up.
In regards to mods or people who access to posting on the front page, this needs to be tweaked so that active people are able to post. You'll find after a few months, 1 or 2 people tend to go inactive and don't come back for months (sometimes years).
EDIT- Also, what about a poster of the month or player of the month with an article on the main page? I know we did Player of the month ages ago but it suddenly stopped.

Player of the month simply requires more activity, but it's still interesting I guess. Also, I agree with posts above, saying that most dead links need to be fixed on the main page. Apart from that I don't really mind and think most is okay as it is.

maygs lol...fals idea was good and the idea of youtube being put on is great.
I always liked when you were able to click on a players time (WR or not) and be able to get his video. Thats just me though. I also think how the viewing of the WR page is weak. Maybe for each (a/sa/ooa) of the level- a picture of the level/backround/objective picture/boss/charactor of that level should be in the backround block.( along with the intials of the players with WR) A youtube block next too OOA with current WR's on that specific level and agents would be also nice and quick link for people viewing the WR times page.
The front page needs to be cleaned up. Maybe its my settings but the page looks too clostrafobic. The youtube idea and fals idea is nice. Mods/admin are doing a good job site needs a face lift when everyone is ready. Good comments so far! I'm sure everyone can contribute something...jimbo might want a titanic sinking ship in the backround or something...

I tried to revive Derek's old GEWR with my monthly thing but it seemed a bust.
I think a big problem is that nobody actually cares, but people say they'd like more stuff. Outside of a very few select few, nobody ACTUALLY does anything around here. If somebody cared about POM, they'd do it themselves. If people wanted poster of the month, they'd do it. If people wanted to update the main page, they'd ask Jon and he'd let them, and they'd update more than twice a year, etc..
I tried to do a bunch of stuff when I was updater for the community and quickly found that nobody really cared, though, even if their words had said otherwise.

Monthly awards always come back to the chicken or the egg question. Did the POM/POW/POYs die out because the games became less active, or did the game become less active because we stopped rewarding improvements? Did PotM/AotM die out because General Chat wasn't active enough to support them, or did GC activity slack off because we stopped rewarding contributions?
If anyone wants to bring back the POM or PotMs to see if that helps spice things back up, you're certainly welcome to try. (Let's not bring back AotM though- that's the one award where we've never lacked for strong competition in the past four years.)
In any case I think we can all agree that the t-e.n main page needs a complete revamp. Let's see someone step up the plate and take charge of that project.

these games have been out so long even kart's finally slowing down a lot (though they have the same issues as us--nobody ever updates though when kart does it's stuff from 3 months ago apologizing--saying they will update soon--then they don't)
In other words--don't become like kart.
Having been on both sides of the fence here on many occasions it's pretty tough doing stuff that you're pretty sure nobody cares about (as octo mentioned). POM's are tough to figure out if people are really interested in that stuff or not*.
* what I mean by this is that winning by default=lame obviously. not the 20 active players getting top times days of lore.
btw whatever I can do to help get some sort of a time splitters ranking page up just let me know (or if the main page needs link adds/fixing/whatever that stuff I can do if needed). It's about damn time we get something even if users can't update the times themselves and/or we just post a records page/whatever as anything would be nice.
It's also annoying at times not being able to do anything about stuff you want fixed but it's you the user that has to help us via saying things you want done (ok you're all pretty good at that) but volunteering and most importantly actually DOING things that would benefit this community as a whole would be best.
Simply stated--if you want stuff done do it yourself. Heck don't even ask anyone here to do it and just do it.
I don't have the time these days to undergo any kind of time consuming project unfortunately so I can only do the minor work here and there if there was any for me to do (slash I was allowed to) --which it doesn't seem like there is.
Goose's top 2 suggestions should've been done without anyone having to say anything a long time ago. Maybe a lot of us are just all at the point of our lives we're really moving from this place--at least I know I've started that phase myself.

I'll certainly give the player of the month, or even poster of the month another ago if people would like to me to do it. I can arrange for nominations and then we can go from there.
With PD and GE now being over 10 years old we seriously need to look at bringing in other games which enables speedrunning if we are to keep this an active community for a long time to come. Now i am not saying lets have a complete revamp but lets looks at the wider picture, a lot of people these days haveWiis, PS3s or Xbox 360s (like me) and GE and PD times are seriously getting the point where most times are maxed out. I feel that after a while the activity in both GE and PD will drop with us all getting older so why not reach out to those young adults out there who may not have got to really appreciate the N64 and who think the golden age of gaming is now.
Games like Mirrors Edge are built for speedrunning, as with PDZ. Those are only a few and i appreciate the PDZ attempt didn't really take off but we seriously need to look at a new side to the elite, how about Wii fit times? We all know about Wii Records but this site has the potential to be bigger and better than that should the effort from all of us be put into it.

I need to aquire a new system but if like 20 of us could start time trialing a new game on a new platform i'd be down.
I still think we need to create our own game and have every feature availiable (online, forum, magazine, emails, sick grapics, multiplayer, HD etc) and go from there. We have all the talent we need, now we just have to put our dreams to work and create a sick game.
Back to this site, well its nice to visit and see whats new, whatever it is thats new anyways...
