Hello and welcome to another edition of the Elite's proudest yearly tradition- the Summer Contest!
Ever since the original Contest back in 2003, the Summer bracket has been created by myself and a small group of Eliters who would enter a private Chatroom and make all the decisions as to who deserved to make the field, who had earned the #1 seeds, and so forth. IMO, we've generally done a pretty good job (and the results bear this out), but I figured why not spice things up and try something new this season. That's why 2009 will be the first time that the Summer Contest bracket is decided entirely by YOU, the voters! We'll do this using a simple nomination system- whoever earns enough nominations will get a spot in the tournament (and whoever gets the MOST noms overall will earn a #1 seed, next most will be 2 seeds, and so on all the way down to the final spots).
In short,
Send me your choices for the TEN Eliters you would most like to see represented in the 2009 Summer Contest!
Everyone gets 10 picks, any everyone's picks will be weighted the same (so a nom from me doesn't count any more than a nom from, uhh... BloodE, for example). Here are the only restrictions on your choices:
* you may not nominate yourself
* special positions have already been set aside for our former champs (Snap, Ngamer, Clark, Shade, Boss, Wouter), so do not nominate them
+ HOWEVER, no one else is assured a spot in the bracket (in past years the GE and PD Top Ten plus the previous year's Sweet 16 were granted automatic entry) so be sure to nom anyone else you want to see make the cut!
* any nominations for Robbie Williams or Rick Astley will result in a 72 hour suspension
As always with the Contests, you can vote (or in this case, nominate) based on whatever you want: the 10 Eliters who you think have done the most for the Elite in '08/'09, the 10 you think would be strongest in a Contest setting, your 10 best friends in the community, the 10 best GE/PD players, or whatever else.
The only question remaining is
How do I send in my nomination?
My top choice would be that you send me a Yuku private message containing your list of 10 Eliters. To do that, just make sure you're logged into the boards and then hit the "More" button on the left below my avatar. Pick "Message Me" and a new window will come up where you can pick your 10 and then send that over.
If you'd rather not use Yuku, feel free to just send me a mail with your choices (ngamer@gmail.com). I'll also be talking to people on AIM (ImNgamer) here and there to collect noms. Or you could hit me up with a pm on facebook- whatever works.
The nomination period will last until 11:59 PM EST on Tuesday, May 26th, so you have roughly a week to get in your picks. At that point the nom totals will be tallied and the final bracket will be created based on those results.
Let's get those lists rolling in, and here's looking forward to another enjoyable Summer of friendly competition!

I can't wait for the 30 man bracket!
but I figured why not find a way to make this as easy as possible for me!
-
Keep dreaming Wheat; I already voted for Ouromov Society, Nolan Baucom, Streets 112, sniperpatrol, geypr0nuser, Cliff Hampton and Denis Lucid.
-
Well wheat is correct in that the Selection Committee meetings have always been a pretty long and difficult process- it generally takes us quite a few hours since we have to decide which 70 or so Eliters should be considered, then what seeds everyone deserves, then who should be matched up with who and what bracket to place them in. That part of the process should at least go more quickly now that we're just letting the users decide for themselves.
As for only 30 or so people getting noms, ehhh, some people have expressed the same concern but I tend to disagree. I think there's going to be more variety to people's Top Tens than you might expect. But, oh well, let's try it out and see if I'm wrong!
EDIT - Oh, but wheat made a good point, there should be links to some previous brackets to people can browse names to help pick their ten. Here we go

Can Timesplitter's players send you nominations ?
I've seen nothing about that in the first post.
-
I don't particularly like this idea, there will already be so many people voting for each other who have met each other in the American meeting for example.
How many people are entering this contest in the first place?
-
Well we can counteract the Virginia splurge by voting for members of the Cara crew!!!! (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsmile.gif&hash=1adea417e08e9042f9ce1a5426616bf29f2ca20e)

wahhhhh
wahhhhh
:-p

Nom limits are the same as voting limits, so yes, anyone who has submitted their times for GE or PD or one of the TS games is eligible, as is anyone with over 100 posts on the boards or over 20 hours spent in the Chatroom.
Here's the complete list of voters from last season if you have more questions:

I still think we needed to come up with a list of 32 "locks" and allow users to nominate the rest. Either we wont get 64 players now, or somebody who obviously should be in the contest will be forgotten in this because quite frankly not enough care.
-
So what if some people are forgotten? I guarantee we'll get 64 unique users as well.
-
If we get 500 nomination slots used (which I think we can do), and there's someone who wasn't mentioned even once in 500 tries, then I don't think it was so obvious that they deserved a spot in the bracket!
-

If people from the meet get more votes because they met then they will just get higher seed. Which make sense considering they are likely to get more votes from others at that meeting during the contest anyway. Maybe they will get a round higher but it won't really change the outcome of the whole thing I'm sure... might make up for more upset too.
I just don't know what will happen if a lot of people get 1 vote, let's say 45 have 2 or more and then 36 have 1 vote will it be selected by the Ng and company so that they would instead only have 19 to choose out of the 36 or will you do matchup prior to the big thing?

Lets start a new topic titled:
Get your preds in for the summer '09 contest noms!!! wOO! wOO!
-
Yeah Jon forgot to mention "Bring You To Hell" or whatever it's called and "The Hangover." What a cop out!
edit - I thought Afan said something about movies in his post. How embarrassing.
-
... Oops he did it again (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ftongue.gif&hash=7cfc888ebd66cf455a55fd5e124ee8267da91148)
i believe you're talking about Drag Me To Hell, the Sam Raimi-return-to-horror-movie!!!
-
done and.. done.
-
Yuck I don't like only being able to nominate 10, but maybe this will work out regardless.
-
I'm gonna nominate ppl I want in, but might not make it without my help (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsmile.gif&hash=1adea417e08e9042f9ce1a5426616bf29f2ca20e)
-
Haha, it's back again. (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fhappy.gif&hash=7b9cd982f9a41f9aefcd7ea74682d5f1e4caf4c6)
Maybe there will be weird seedings or people forgotten, that's true but that sounds fun and it's cool to have something different for this good old contest. E-mailed you my nominations, Jon. I hope you enjoy my little write-up!

can't wait for the hour long
The elite bracket selection show!
-
That's a good point wheat, maybe we should reveal the bracket in a TEI podcast. I'll give you a couple days to find your computer mic and get Skype reinstalled so you can provide color commentary.
-
don't know if I'll be on in a couple days but I would do it. I have a mic and skype right here. I can see a few obvious problems--I don't know everybody, half the elite would do a better job than I would, and I'm probably going to have to get a copy of that bracket right when we start the thing so I'm not scribbling trying to figure out just what the hell the matchups are.

The Gamer's Den Episode 2!
Everyone nominate Robert Klee! Do it. Noncompliance is not an option. How awesome would it be if Robert Klee won the summer contest? That power is yours, and yours alone.

You vote for me, I'll vote for you, this is what we do.
