Pigskin Pick'em is back!  Each week you simply choose which teams will win straight up, and whoever picks the most correctly by the end of the season is declared the Champ.  Join join join!

Elite Survival Football is back!  Each week you have to choose 1 team that you think will win, and you can only choose each team once in the entire season!  I think Neo won last year, but I forgot already.  It's always a fun competition and shouldn't disappoint this year!

Elite Spread Pick'Em is back!  Each week you choose which teams you think will win versus the spread that Vegas sets.  Ngamer is the defending Champ after taking the victory in style last season.  We'll see if anyone can knock him off this time!

Here's some Elite bets so far (aka people taking Jimbo's money):

* Vikings Defense will allow less points than Packers Defense in 2009 regular season - Come takes Vikings side, Jimbo takes Packers side - $30 straight up
* Brett Favre number of regular season starts. Must start game one for action. 15.5. Shep takes UNDER. Jimbo OVER. - $50 straight up
* Rodgers will throw more TD passes than Favre - Jimbo's $30 to Third's $20

As mentioned, Pick'em will be run at ESPN and it will be set up a week before the season, as always. And we should be all set for Survival... but who is running the pool for Spread Bets this year?

Look like I'll win the Survival league easily this year! My chances will go down tremendously if a second person joins though.

Edit 2 - And another: UNDER 8.5 of last year's playoff teams to return to the playoffs this season - Risked $480 to win $300
---------

Geez, I sure didn't bet against many guys. I hope there are a lot of TDs this year!

Our 2009 Pigskin Pick'em group is ready to roll out. For those who haven't played before, this is the simplest of our picking pools- you simply click the checkbox next to the teams you think will win that week, and whoever calls the most games correctly at the end of the season is declared the Champ.

Here's how we do it:

Starting Page: http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/en/frontpage (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/en/frontpage)

Sign in, then Create Your Entry. Make your Week 1 picks and Save.

Then look on the top for My Groups - Create or Join a Group.

You want to search for The NFL Elite, click into the group and enter our password, elite.

BAM, that's all there is to it!
---

EDIT - Come has just created the Spread pool as well, check the opening post for details.

Way to completely steal my team name from last year's Survival, Ng! (I realize the originality of the name might not be super high in the first place [although I hadn't seen it before], but.... come ON!)

Anyways, in survival and spread pick 'em. Not doing regular pick 'em because I hate ESPN and dont' feel like signing into it ever. I am doing regular pick 'em on Y! though, and could compare final scores.

Reminder: the first game of the season starts in 23 hours!

That's not a big deal for Pick'Em, you only miss out on one game, but you'll be locked out of Survival entirely unless you have your choice made before then, so don't delay!

The NFL season is officially underway, which means it's too late to get into the Yahoo pools! You CAN still join Pigskin Pick'Em if you haven't yet, however.

Now that we're done getting everyone signed up, let's concentrate on those SB preds. Hmm... I've been backing the Chargers for several years now and they keep letting me down, think I have to try something different this time. Meanwhile the NFC is a total crapshoot, it seems to me. Guess I'll back

Patriots - 27, Packers - 17

Chargers
Steelers

that bears play last night is in the top 5 of worst play calls in NFL history. Whoever did that (the HB and P were surprised so some retard on the line did it) should be on the waiver wire this week. absurd NT INT, the most retarded fake punt call in NFL history (I challenge you to find one that was dumber), Woodson almost doing the dumbest defensive play in NFL history when he caused his own guy to fumble out of bounds for a touchback (if only that guy didn't step out of bounds (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ffrown.gif&hash=9bb8520656650a7c2457ae0ae2ee8996e4109fd6) ). Bears WR's tanking plays causing Cutler to throw a few INT's, Cutler throwing the ball like a rookie. (btw GB--get a right tackle)

There is a Thursday night game this week (Bears @ 9ers)!  Be sure to get in your Spread picks today, as Yahoo sometimes locks down the whole week as soon as the first game starts!  Or at least they've done so in years past.  Pick'Em isn't such a big deal since you'll only miss out on the one game if you stick to the normal routine and pick on Saturday night.

I too missed the deadline. I was away at training all this week and had little time to do fantasy/survival this week. I also thought the deadline would be the weekend anyway, but I guess I forgot things change this week.

Not sure if it counts as official, but I'd like to predict DENVER BRONCOS as my pick of the week. I've already picked the Bears (no way I would have gone 49ers against my team!) so last night's game would have had no effect on my decision had I made my prediction timely. If you guys have it in your hearts to let me continue, I'll feel very happy.

Your picks still count as far as I'm concerned. Getting to a streak of 9 and then getting eliminated because of an early deadline is a pretty bogus way to go out. I believe we made the same concession for Youse last year after he missed a deadline, so it's not unprecedented.

Get a pick in, Nate!

Last year I got 2nd place to Neo completely legitimately. It was two years ago where a concession was made for me. Technically, I missed the deadline, but practically I didn't. I made a pick and somehow Yahoo! didn't save it. This may or may not have been my fault but I was pretty sure at the time that I'd gotten hosed. I ended up having the (weak) proof of an i/m conversation detailing my survival pick with a friend on the Friday prior.

Either way it was precedence setting. The elite is flexible in this regard!

Oh, snap. I am owed approx. 8 points for when Yahoo was a piece of trash on that week I didn't pick. (In all actuality, eight is actually what I "got" that week... I noticed me being locked out at around 1:15, mentally made my picks with a half-quarter of knowledge advantage for the 1PM games. Ended up with 8.) Don't really need those points, I plan on winning without them.

Nate did NOT reply back with his pick for the Texans/Titans game, and has thus been eliminated from Survival this season.

Your Week 11 winner for the straight-up picks is... Ngamer's Dad, who goes a stunning 14-2, his only mistakes being those (ridic) losses by the Steelers and Bengals! Clark and Neo were just back at 13-3.

NEW TOP FIVE for the season:
1. Ngamer - 115
2. Ngamer's Sister - 110
2. Clark - 110
2. P. Keiter - 110
5. Josh Layne - 108

(With my dad sitting 1 point away from making the Top 5 60% Barbers.) Two STUPID things caused me to take a tumble this week, namely forgetting there was a Thursday night game (as I had planned to pick the Dolphins) and then those darn Ravens. As a result I fall from the 99.8 percentile at 650th worldwide to the 99.7 percentile at 1100th worldwide. Will have to make up for it next week!

In Survival we lost Youse with the Bengals and Nate with his no-choice, leaving only QB, Neo, drag, and mikers still in the hunt.

BTW, I missed spread pick 'em again this week due to a highly hectic schedule the day before and day of T-giving, and not really being able to access Internet (I'm abroad, not at home). It's not Y! that is a piece of trash, it's the settings. They lock at the beg. of the week's games. That is stupid. Next year we should lock them 5 mins before EACH game. It's a little less fair but a LOT more forgiving.

Anyway, I'd have nailed the three T-day games (I picked Denver straight up in another format-- when I made those picks it was last Sunday and the new lines weren't up yet so I didn't do the spread picks at that time). The other two Turkey day games were obvious.

So, I have 3 so far (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsmile.gif&hash=1adea417e08e9042f9ce1a5426616bf29f2ca20e). Also, give me the underdogs:

Hmm, I'm in the same boat as Youse. I too would have picked the three winners on Thursday, having faith in Denver to win by a touchdown at home in a pretty even matchup. The rest of my picks:

Atlanta
Buffalo
Cincinnati
Seattle
Carolina
Philadelphia
Indianapolis
San Diego
San Francisco
Tennessee
Minnesota
Pittsburgh
New England

Patriots will win 20-13
Steelers will win 42-17
Steelers will score the most
Browns will score the least

You are not +$76 for this season risking $6 at a time and YTD Tally doesn't count if you don't post those in here since we have no way of verifying it.

Anyway, that's not the reason I posted

http://files.nfl-forecast.com/ (http://files.nfl-forecast.com/)

here you go math guys playoff odds for your favorite teams at this point the link will be handy for those of you interested in following weeks since I won't update every week obviously.
Interesting Teams
NFC
Packers 77%   yeah, this is pretty disgusting.  They've got a very favorable tiebreakers and stuff so even 2 losses they're very likely to make the playoffs (would actually go up a little as long as one was vs the AFC)  GB vs Baltimore this week  the Ravens badly need it and it won't effect the Packers much either way.
Eagles 73% (edited the sched in   Falcons, Giants, Niners, Broncos, and Cowboys)   LOL  have fun with that.  another 2 losses and they're still probably in as long as both aren't divisional.   Then they're just possibly in.
Giants 52%  One loss is ok.  Two isn't.
Falcons 14% (can lose to Saints, really can't lose to Eagles)  I'm not joking about can't lose to the Eagles this week.  A loss to the Eagles pretty much kills the playoff hopes as even winning out after that (Saints too) makes the playoffs iffy.
49ers 17% (also play Eagles)  Tasty schedule of Rams, SeaTurkeys, Lions  with more birds in Eagles and Cards.  They really can't lose to Arizona and the Eagles are one of the teams they're fighting for a WC spot in but going 4-1 is ok but not a lock to make the playoffs.  (3-2 obviously is disasterous)
Everybody else combined <1%
(slightly interesting how Carolina has the lowest of this group at .2%  but by far the best % if they won out--obv that's a ridic remaining schedule   Pats, Vikings, Giants, and Saints   ok then have fun with that)
(yeah, everybody else is basically a lock to be a playoff team at this point--hard not to agree with that)
AFC
Denver 75% KC, KC, Oak. Win those 3 and they're 80% to make it. (other games are Eagles and Colts--wtf is with this Eagles schedule)
Pittsburgh 70% lol at Ward saying the Ravens was a must win game when they still have Cle and Oak on the schedule. They lose twice and they're in big trouble however. One loss (no matter who it is) will be ok though Baltimore would hurt a bit.
Baltimore 38% interesting note one loss to a NFC team and win out and the odds are 97% one loss to Pit and win out is 69% Two losses and it's 18%
Jacksonville 16% though they control their own destiny. Win out and they're in. One loss and they're probably in. Two and they're probably out. Reason #1 of why you really don't want to be on the wrong side of tiebreakers.
Houston 3.7% lol they should've beaten the colts at least once. Or the Titans two weeks ago. Some of those.
Miami 1.5% all but done really. Pretty much has to win out and that's a brutal schedule.
Tennessee .2%! despite the darling status of the media even if they win out the % odds are 34% because they lose basically every tiebreaker scenario. Though, I wouldn't want to play the red hot Vince Young Chris Johnson in the playoffs either.

everyone else--meaningless. yes buffalo isn't mathematically eliminated but they're not getting in.

Yes, there's a nonzero% scenario in the AFC where an 11-5 team misses the playoffs.  Funny enough Jacksonville loses all the H2H tiebreakers but would win the multi way one here leaving the other teams involved to sweat it out.

Fantasy Update for those not in the know

(BTW we're in the middle of a pretty chaotic and epic fantasy football season with wheat sitting alone at 5-7 ... in 11th place just 2 GB out of a massive tie for first at 7-5! That means only PDO is eliminated from the championship with just two games to go until the playoffs.
[actually if wheat had just won last week the 11th place team would currently have a 6-6 record--1 game out of first which probably would've been the most competitive league on yahoo this season!] teams are 6-6 unless noted or already noted.
Games this week.
Jimbo vs Come (both 7-5) Winner likely makes the top 4. Loser probably has to win next week.
Wheat vs Shep loser is likely completely out of the consolation playoffs--winner has a longshot chance at a top 4 spot still though with a win next week as well
Neo vs Ng. Ng gets the final game against the only team out of the league so this is a must win game for the kangaroos or they will be at best down under... in the consolation playoffs!
Wiff vs PDO A loss here for Wiff and any title hopes are gone.
Boss vs DK (both 7-5) Both of these teams could finish out of the consolation playoffs completely or the #1 seed or anything in between depending on these chaotic 2 weeks. I'd advise not losing 2 games.
QB vs Third (QB 7-5) QB has the easiest remaining schedule facing Third and Wiff these last 2 weeks but will he take advantage of it?

All the 6-6 teams must win 2 games to get into the top 4. Wheat at 5-7 actually has the 2nd most points scored and if he keeps that or moves to first in that tiebreaker with two wins and a ton of games go his way (funny thing here, there's a bunch of scenarios that involve different teams going 9-5 and the like so until sunday progresses it'll be next to impossible to know exactly who each team is supposed to be rooting against!) over the final 2 games.

(thanks to ngamer for telling me how to strike out someone's name)

Raiders would sweep both Ohio and Pennsylvania this season if they beat the Browns which means they'd win the presidency.
With the results this weekend the NFC 6 playoff teams all but come down to 3 spots for the following 4 teams (regardless of GB's result tonight)
NYG swept Dal for that potential tiebreaker, at Was, Phi, Car, at Min (quite possibly meaningless for the Vikes) Pretty favorable though first two definitely not gimmes though I wouldn't blame the skins for tanking the rest of the season after that BS loss to the Saints.
Dal SD at home, at Was (not a gimme), at NO (lol), and Phi at home. yeesh, Mr. November still might again go 0 for december. and miss the playoffs again if they do that.
GB Bal, at Chi, at Pit, Sea, at Ari. 2-3 and they're still very likely in the playoffs (3-2's all but a lock).
Phi. at NYG, SF, Den, at Dal. well based on the cowboys history this means they should go 2-2 more than enough to get in.

Really hard for 3 to make it out of one division...

is it just me or if the Raiders get a real QB are they automatically 8-8 or better next season? Just me. Ok then.

AFC teams
San Diego--they really just need Was at home for 10 wins the other three games are at Dal, Cin, at Ten. not gimmes at all.
Denver looks good right now all they need to do is take care of Oak and KC at home and that's 10 wins (other two are tough road games) for a WC spot
Jacksonville took control of the 2nd spot with a 7-5 record because they have a very good AFC record (ie 1-3 with 2 blowouts vs the NFC west) but tough schedule (ind and miami at home, at NE, Cle [ok I like that last one] 2 wins gets to 9-7 and will force somebody to go 10-6 really cause of that tiebreaker [unless it's miami/NE while losing to them obviously] They missed both Pit and Balt this season.
Baltimore with or without the game tonight they're in ok shape Lions and Bears at home next 2 after tonight (in a 3 straight NFC north fun fest) then at Pit (which may or may not be massive hard to tell right now), at Oak [suddenly not a count the win on the scoreboard game]
Pittsburgh, okay, Ward THAT was a must win game. at Cle (must win) GB at home (now a must win), Bal at home (probably a must win now), at Mia (yikes, well they might get away with 3-1 if they lose only to GB) I don't like their odds much.

the AFC east--thanks to NE suckage now that whole division is up for grabs with 3 teams in the mix for the title and the last WC spot.
New England car at home (well they can't defend the pass vs a team that can't pass), at Buf (an ugly game no matter what's going on), Jax, at Hou. All of a sudden that Car game is a must win game cause it's the easiest left on the schedule.
Miami at Jax, at Ten, Hou, Pit, all solid games left. That Mia vs Pit final game could be for the final postseason spot or absolutely meaningless.
NYJ at TB, ATL, at Ind, Cin. Amazingly favorable schedule for the Jets here with Atl not having their starting QB and RB possibly for that game and the Colts likely will have clinched everything by their game and the Bengals contest is likely meaningless for them as well. I think they should be the clear favorites to win the division as a result. Strange how the Buffalo at home loss hurts more than the Miami sweep (or that loss to the Jags even)

a fantasy update tomorrow--seems like the cream of the crop took care of things this week but there's still a few things to be determined and several teams not in the top 4 still have a shot at making the championship playoffs.

Jimbo was losing by 40 heading into the monday night game and scored... 35 or so. Anyway here's the updated standings and results
(didn't include the decimals--so what)

Wheat 38 Shep 61. Wheat is headed to the toilet bowl and after his team's performance they deserve it!
Jimbo 77 Come 84 Jimbo's packers furious rally falls short. Come had a pretty good sweat though!
DK 88 Boss 60 Boss was 1st just a short while ago and now he's fighting to just to make the consolation playoffs.
NG 62 Neo 51. Neo had Carney as his kicker, if he had Hartley instead he would've won. NG called his team's performance clutch. (Jason Campbell are you kidding me)
Wiff 59 PDO (who died awhile ago) 48. Lame but wiff gets it done here.
QB 83 Third 64. Carry on.

Here's the updated standings and matchups
1. DK 8-5 913
2. QB 8-5 911
3. Come 8-5 899
4. Jimbo 7-6 946
5. NG 7-6 865
6. Boss 7-6 845
7. Shep 7-6 809
8. Wiff 7-6 787
9. Neo 6-7 870
10. Third 6-7 812
11. Wheat 5-8 875 (just like the Bears I started 3-1 lol)
12. PDO 2-something so who cares

and now for this week's exciting matchups!
Boss vs Wheat. Wheat's looking to play spoiler here in his final game of the season. Boss while he does still have title hopes--are a bit of a huge longshot.
PDO vs NG. Talk about a scheduling break. He still needs a little help but he wins and he's got a shot.
DK vs Come. Game of the Week though both are likely playing for a title anyway thanks to both teams being in the top 4 in points scored. If I were come though this isn't the week to put up a wheat or PDO like 40 point performance.
QB vs Wiff. QB took advantage of his schedule and is also likely playing for the final four. Wiff needs a win just to not be in the toilet bowl again.
Shep vs Third. Third needs a win to get out of the toilet bowl. Shep still has a miracle chance of 4th.
Jimbo vs Neo. Neo's eliminated from title contention unless he wins 100-20 or so here. Jimbo's in the title picture with a victory. Neo does need a win to avoid the toilet bowl though as well.

(I'm not throwing in 50+ point make up gaps and ties as those are very unrealistic)

DK, QB, and Come are all but locks to make the final four but who will join them?
Jimbo--in with win OR NG, Shep, Wiff, and Boss losses
Ngamer--in with win and Jimbo loss (and doesn't get outscored by boss by more than 20 points) yeah there's a scenario that he could overtake come in points scored but 35 behind with one week left is hard to make up (and look at come's team...)
Boss--in with win and Jimbo and NG loss or he makes up the 20 on NG.
Shep--in with win and Jimbo, Boss, and Ngamer losses (and stays ahead of Wiff or Wiff loses)
Wiff--in with win and Jimbo, Ngamer, Boss and Shep losing or he makes up the ground on shep but the others still need to lose.
Neo--beats Jimbo by 80 and every other 7-6 team loses.  Yeah...
and that's really it. There's still a good fight for 8th between 10th-6th or so as well but whatever.

Lots of huge Neo fans this week. (and to a lesser extent PDO and Wheat as well)

Jimbo could also be the first team I can remember to be in first place with 2 games left in the season and end up in the consolation playoffs.

DK vs Come has a decent chance to happen 2 weeks in a row... and obviously my matchups next week are way better than my matchups in 2 weeks (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ffrown.gif&hash=9bb8520656650a7c2457ae0ae2ee8996e4109fd6)

Glad I could avoid Jimbo luckboxing his way into a win last night, would've put me on extreme tilt.

I don't know how I'm second in pick'em. I'm 4th in a league of 8 of my friends with the same entry. But Mangamer is definitely raping.

I don't know how I'm in first. The teams I had to play twice this season were Jimbo, Boss, and Come. That's a pretty tough schedule. Oddly enough, I had to play Jimbo and Come (who won the championship) twice last year as well. Somehow I'm 3-0 all-time against Come in fantasy, although that streak is going to end this week (Come's matchups are absurd and Ward is too much of a pussy to play against the Browns).

I hate yuku.  Not logged in  lose the whole post.

Anyway, basically I posted this link  http://www.advancednflsta...-have-kicked-onside.html (http://www.advancednflstats.com/2009/12/should-steelers-have-kicked-onside.html)

and said ngamer owes me an apology and looks like the onside kick was actually the correct decision even including some factors which that quick math doesn't take into account.

Anyway, on to the fantasy playoffs!

[insert mora you tube link]

Ngamer pulled out the luckbox card putting in Cribbs and his 3 WR's accounted for over 10 each and MJD's 20 were more than good enough as he took out QB  who suffers the #1 curse as others have this season in a 99-53 (ish yahoo reverted as I'm typing this) loss.

DK's team laid a massive egg again this week and his last two weeks combined wouldn't have been enough to defeat Come  who now has an 8 game win streak as come wins 83-38.

Final  2.  Come  vs  4.  Ngamer
Come's team is the new #1 and will he suffer the dreaded #1 curse?  (I think Ng was #1 way back somewhere in the season but not sure; we had a ton of 1st place teams this season, third, wheat, QB, boss, Jimbo, DK, and now Come)  Ngamer might need another luckbox performance to win this prestigious fantasy championship as Come has consistently putting up 80+ (though when did that Fitz trade go through--third probably handed him this opportunity...)

Third Place  QB vs DK.  Do either care?  DK has to feel like he's got the 11th place team so anything here is great.

The consolation playoffs turned into epic contests where Shep manages to hang on to Boss's last minute threat 70.8-69.3.  He will face  Neo who defeats Jimbo twice in a row  79-74.

The seventh place match is the fall from grace match as both Boss and Jimbo were #1 in the last month.  Boss might be on suicide watch if he finishes eighth though so we're definitely not rooting for that.

Well, I told you at the time that the odds had been taken down. They're back up now with Avatar at 9/2, meaning you could risk $5 to win $22.50. (Technically the line is closed for betting but I'll honor it anyway, at least until it changes again.)

I'm sure you'd like to go back to the NFL preseason and bet the Saints to win the Super Bowl at 20/1 also, but it doesn't work like that. Next time, you'll act faster when given such a terrific opportunity.

With all the possibilities in the NFC next week here are the scenarios

#2 seed

Phi gets this with a win

Dal gets this with a win and Vikes and Cards losses. They win the division tiebreaker and then the 3 way tiebreaker (I think thanks to strength of victory because NFC East is way better than the NFC north and west)

Min gets this with a win and a Phi loss

Ari gets this with a win and a Min loss and a Phi loss (though ng was indeed correct that Ari would beat Dal in a h2h tiebreaker there is no scenario that gets Ari and Dallas only in that tiebreaker so that doesn't apply)

Possibilities for GB include at Dal, at Min and at Ari or even at Phi* for their 1st round game
Possibilities for Phi include at Dal, at Min or at Ari for their 1st round game*  (they could even be the 6 seed instead of the current #2)
Possiblities for Dal include at Ari at Min at Phi*   (also could be the 2  instead of the current 6)

*something may look wrong but I'm counting ties here (GB at Phi, Dal at Phi are only doable with a tie and possibly one of the Phi at scenarios as well)

now on to the AFC and that crapshoot and I'm not including ties here because I don't want to kill myself (so I copy/pasted this from nfl.com lol)

Denver
Broncos clinch playoff berth with DEN win + 1) NYJ loss + losses by BAL or PIT, OR 2) NYJ loss + HOU win, OR 3) BAL loss + PIT loss or HOU win. Broncos can clinch berth with DEN loss any combination of losses by 1) PIT + BAL + HOU + JAC, OR 2) PIT + BAL + HOU + NYJ, OR 3) PIT + BAL + JAC + NYJ, OR 4) PIT + HOU + JAC + NYJ, OR 5) MIA + NYJ + BAL + HOU + JAC.

They don't control their destiny. Broncos would lose common opponents tiebreaker to Jets and head-to-head to Baltimore if all three are tied after Week 17.

edit--btw the reason they are listed 5th is because they do win the common opponent tiebreaker currently however with the Jets having to play the Bengals and if they win then they lose that tiebreaker and next the tiebreaker vs the Ravens and would miss the playoffs but this week would've made it

Jets are win and they're the 5 seed lose and they're out.  Yeah, that's the Jets scenario--a loss would lose the multiway tiebreaker and a win would win that multi way tiebreaker.  (ok fine, tie and everybody else loses)

Ravens are win and win as well (lose tiebreaker to Jets, beat Denver h2h)

Texans clinch playoff berth with HOU win + 1) NYJ loss + BAL loss or DEN loss, OR 2) BAL loss + DEN loss.

Steelers clinch playoff berth with PIT win + 1) HOU loss + NYJ loss or BAL loss, OR 2) NYJ loss + BAL loss + DEN loss.

Dolphins clinch playoff berth with MIA win + NYJ loss + BAL loss + HOU loss + JAC loss.

Jaguars clinch playoff berth with JAC win + 1) PIT loss + BAL loss + DEN loss + HOU loss, OR 2) PIT loss + BAL loss + DEN loss + NYJ loss, OR 3) PIT loss + BAL loss + HOU loss + NYJ loss, OR 4) PIT loss + DEN loss + HOU loss + NYJ loss, OR 5) NYJ loss + DEN loss + HOU loss + BAL loss.

All of the losses include ties if the team is below them record wise.

Post by: Ngamer on December 29, 2009, 04:19:00 am
Alright, I ran all possible scenarios regarding the three NFC games that matter next week. Assuming they're all "coin flips",

* Eagles take the #2 seed 50% of the time
* Vikes take the #2 seed 25%
* Cowboys take the #2 seed 13%
* Cardinals take the #2 seed 13%

* Packers vs Cards and Eagles vs Cowboys rematches the following week happen 25% of the time (however in both cases Dallas would host the rematch, not Philly as in W17)

* Packers @ Cards happens 75% of the time (Pack @ Vikes happens with Eagles/Cards/Vikes wins, Pack @ Cowboys happens with Cowboys/Cards/Giants wins)

* if the Eagles miss the #2 (aka they lose to the Cowboys), they have a 50/50 shot of playing the Vikes/Cowboys (both games would be on the road)

* Cowboys get the #2 13%, @ Vikes 38%, @ Cards 13%, host Eagles 25%, host Packers 13%

* Cardinals get the #2 13%, host Packers 75%, host Cowboys 13%

* Vikes get the #2 25%, host Cowboys 25%, host Eagles 25%, host Packers 13%, host Cardinals 13%
---

Since the Vikings/Giants game will be done by the time that the Eagles/Cowboys and Packers/Cards kick off (both those will be played at the same time), let's break down the scenarios thusly:

If the Vikings defeat the Giants...

* Packers @ Cards is a lock, so their game is meaningless
* Eagles win means they get the #2 and force the Cowboys to play @ the Vikings
* Cowboys win sets up a rematch vs Eagles, but in Dallas this time (Vikes get the #2)

If the Giants defeat the Vikings...

* Eagles win earns them the #2 and forces Cowboys on the road (vs Cards with Cards win, or Vikes with Pack win)
* Cowboys win earns them the #2 with a Packers win, #3 and hosting the Packers with a Cards win
* Packers win guarantees Pack @ Cards
* Cards win earns them the #2 with a Cowboys win, #3 and hosting the Cowboys with an Eagles win
Title: 2009 Elite NFL Pickem, Survival, and Betting! [FINAL RESULTS now up]
Post by: wheatrich on December 29, 2009, 01:33:00 pm
f the Vikings defeat the Giants... packers @ cards is a lock.

1--the seed does matter either 3/6 or 4/5 and the 3 >>>>> the 4 (since it's easier to host the championship game as a 3 than a 4--though Ari did do so last season
2--it's technically not true. A GB Arizona tie and a Dallas win under that scenario will make GB @ Dal and Phi @ Ari for round 1.

Phi @ Dal and GB @ Ari are rematches in the same stadiums if Dal and Min win.

NYJ @ Cin is locked in with a Jets victory on sunday night as well.

Hou @ NE can happen as well with a Hou win, Den, Balt losses. (Jets Bengals doesn't really matter that much somehow for the Texans)

Expert bet-sizing. Guess vig got me pretty good too. (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ffrown.gif&hash=9bb8520656650a7c2457ae0ae2ee8996e4109fd6)

Rams/Bears really hurt me by not living up to expectations and Hixon got me twice by unexpectedly getting injured in the preseason and losing his starting job. Anthony Gonzalez going down for the season was pretty unfair too. Them's the breaks.

Go Chargers!

FINAL 2009 NFL STANDINGS

Here we go- this is how everything ends up for the '09 season!

Pigskin Pick'Em
1. Ngamer - 176
2. Clark - 174
3. P. Keiter - 171
4. QB - 168
4. Ng's Dad - 168
4. Ng's Sister - 168

Ngamer's record of 177-79 is good for a 69.1% winning percentage and has him ranked in the 99.6% percentile of picks worldwide (ranked 1670th of the 390,000+ predictors at ESPN).

Congratulations to Ngamer, your 2009 NFL Picks Champion! He takes over the crown from mikers, who defeated wiff by 4 picks last season (mikers ended up 171-85, 66.8%, and in the 99.4 percentile at ESPN).

However, the real congrats are due to the entire Ngamer Family. Ng's Dad and Sister both ended on a tear, forcing a tie (with Clark) for the W17 win at 12-4, allowing them both to tie QB and leave us with three Barbers in the final Top Five!

Pigskin Weekly Wins
1. Keiter - 3
2. R. Sanders - 2.5
2. Ng's Sister - 2.5
2. Clark - 2.5
3. QB - 2
6. Ng - 1.5
6. Matt - 1.5
6. Comet - 1.5
6. Ng's Dad - 1.5
10. Ng's Cousin - 1
10. Neo - 1
10. Layne - 1
13. Nate - .5
13. Come - .5
13. Shep -.5
13. wiff - .5
13. octo - .5
13. Sucram - .5

Despite a spirited final week effort from Clark and Ng's Sister, Keiter had built up too large a cushion earlier in the year and escapes with the overall win for weekly victories.

Picks Against the Spread
1. Ngamer - 135
2. Third - 131
3. QB - 128
4. Youse - 117
5. Neo - 114

Congrats to Ngamer, who defends his '08 Spread Championship by taking home the crown once again this season! His record of 135 correct picks is identical to his winning total from last year; however this time he had closer competition (next best in '08 was Boss with 129). QB improved by 2 picks this year, but it was only good enough to land him the same Bronze medal he took home last time.

Survival Picks
ZERO Eliters survive the 2009 season!

Eliminations:
Week 2 - Packers (Ngamer, Shep, Third, wheat)
Week 2 - No Pick (Clark)
Week 3 - Redskins (DK)
Week 5 - Bills (Jimbo)
Week 6 - Eagles (Cad, Come, octo, Sanders)
Week 8 - Lions (Matt)
Week 8 - Cardinals (Sucram)
Week 9 - Packers (frantic)
Week 10 - Broncos (Cyber)
Week 11 - No Pick (Nate)
Week 11 - Bengals (Youse)
Week 15 - Broncos (mikers, drag)
Week 16 - Saints (Neo)
Week 17 - Broncos (QB)

Congrats to QB for surviving the longest of any Eliter this season, but he couldn't quite pull out the perfect season, as Neo did in '08! I liked his Denver pick, considering they had everything to play for and were up against a team that should have been thinking lottery. What's up with these Bosshardt-like late season collapses from the Broncos lately?

Note: Ng lead the league in both Pigskin and Spread starting in Week 8.  He was never removed from that position (or tied for that position) for the remainder of the season.

On a more deflating note,

Ng Bets the NFL - Week 17

Risking $5 to win $4.55 on the Eagles to finish within 3 points of the Cowboys

YTD Tally: -$4.43
