Failed a really nice 36.05 (missed first ECM throw but had good speed so kept going), and probably a couple other sub-37's where I landed on the final terminal and missed the ECM shot. This run was pretty decent, though I assumed it'd be like 37.2 or something.

I saw a Frenchy had gotten under 3 mins and I couldn't have that ;-) That spurred me on too.
decided to only waste the left side Skedar on my way to the lift, I wanted to catch my ride this time. A good 2nd and 3rd spawn which doesn't always happen.

I guess you gain all that time on the 32 (n64 record) from being able to do the glitch parts so fast.

Generally you gain time everywhere due to higher frame rate. But i guess the level is so short that it doesn't do that much diffrence, also you loose some time compared to n64 due to not always running full speed. But yeah, most time is gained from glitching faster.
Having more doors opened + better ending can maybe get a high 28 on this. That'd be crazy though.. 29 is hard enough.
I'm gonna try dupe some wr's now so i can vid' them...

Tried some speechskipping on PA today and it's actually not that difficult, should save quite alot, but... instead of gaining time my programmers got 15-20 secs slower, dunno why. It's just wierd. Tried a buttload of things but nothing seems to make a diffrence.

yep. cut the opening scene after "make your way down to the ground level" if you're skipping the first two messages; cut after "armed guards are a different matter of course" if you only skip one. these might be slightly off for you since your beginning is clearly faster than mine, lol. you'll have to do some research for yourself with the x-ray scanner. the message "i'll begin at once" generally appears at 12.5-13.5...if you're really badass, you can skip that too, but at this point i'm too lazy to do that. make sure you DON'T call the lift; it'll arrive on its own. best run i've had was a 1:12.00 appearance of "ok, i'm in", but i fell into the cheese room...i'll probably go for around 1.23...

Nice way to leave the uplink part, why isn't that used on N64 too? Should make it slightly easier to reach end right with shorter distance to run?
Anyway, i can't imagine myself watching cinema on this level so i'm probably gonna have to figure out why it didn't work for me. Seems really wierd though...

thanks, i'd forgotten how to fall on the terminal at the end and i didn't watch any n64 defection vids so i was kinda making stuff up as i go along. because my controller is so slow, this is the only way that i can reach the terminal, lol (check out my right strafe on the top of the helipad, that's full speed for me). it's definitely shorter since you're running right at the terminal.
also, i was able to skip all three messages last night. skipping the last message saves an additional two seconds, so factor that in with a slightly faster programmer (i think he was "in" at ~1:13.00, new best is 1:11.50) and a non-chump ending and sub 1:20 might be possible.

Nice run, especially with the boosts at the start with the explosives and all the luck factors you got on 1 run. Maybe you should boost you in the 2nd room since if you are slower you could had the door opened by a blue guard. Anyway, nice vid btw.

also i keep experiencing this glitch where, after i meet up with elvis, one of the guards turns into a friendly (his aim outline is blue) and elvis kills him, and i fail the mission because a civilian was killed. it's ruined many good runs. does this exist in the original version?

Insane/Wierd/Crazy/Lucky session. I realized i could prolly get sub 1:09 on infiltration but .76 was way better decimal than expected. Then i started up defection just for fun and got 5.40 on first try, 5.38 on second and 5.40 again on third. After this played some Chicago and got a lucky mine throw on 3rd try and somehow ended up with another wr... guess this will never happen again.

no, i don't think speech skip is possible on p2. although sometimes the first message disappears randomly for no reason on some runs, and then you can talk to the pilots immediately. none of these runs had that, however.

lol. probably my last wr for awhile. also, forgot to mention: new air force one sa and pa strat: call the lift first thing; at that exact moment, use a combat boost and head towards the suitcase. gotta kill the keycard guy fast to make the lift. saves almost 4 seconds, though i haven't been able to complete a good run.

Nice job! Curious about WAR!, i've tried that level many times but for some reason my TT's are very inconsistent. Like i usually check my time after crossing the bridge and normally i end up with high 12/low 13 which just isn't good enough for sub 27, and then for some wierd reason, without actually having a better run i sometimes get low 12. I figured i must be hitting the strafe wrong or something but even when trying new angles i still only end up with the good TT like once an hour. It's just strange cause i don't really have a strafing problem on any other levels(as far as i know...otherwise i might be loosing a second every 10 seconds on every level...)
So anyway, i was just wondering what your average TT's on WAR! are and how often you can get them?

hmm...the only TT i check is the corner right before the bridge...i check the instant i push the joystick to the right to turn. that is usually around 11.0-11.1. sometimes the time is a few tenths over that, but it's usually pretty consistent. the rest of the level is just a crapshoot, so i don't really check TT's anywhere else.

thoughts:
This strat was incredibly hard to tweak. I discovered that you could complete objective 4 (destroying the sensitive data) by shooting the devastator through the roof standing at the start of the level, but the angle here was very difficult. I originally thought you had to shoot the glass in the data room to allow a grenade to fall in from the sky, but it turns out if you fire two shots, one will take out the glass and the other will destroy the data. Then I tried a few more angles outside before settling on the one in the corner. It was also difficult to decide which hostages to rescue and in what order such that carrington’s messages don’t bunch up towards the end. I suppose there are riskier ways of doing this method that are faster, but much less consistent. You save a lot of time by not having to go upstairs, and I think it’s much easier to live as well. The only time you’re in danger of being shot is after the devastator to the rcp120. Also you need to activate the second combat boost so you can kill the guards quickly and still have time to fire the devastator and run to get the rcp120 before the grenades hit the data. It’s tricky.
I almost died because I couldn’t get the cloak on after picking up the rcp120 lol.

Wow cool, wierd strat but awesome. Great find with the roofnades!(is this new? I think i've heard something before about Obj 4 being done from the ramp? It's possible it was just theory then) I'm a bit confused how this actually works, the normal nade launch is obviously faster but this somehow saves time because of some XBLA thing?

Just wondering why you didn't do like the n64 strat and just open the door of the training room to let hostages get saved themself? Probably for consistency I suppose.

you have to wait until you pick up the rcp120 before you can destroy the data. this is in contrast to the n64 version, where obviously you can destroy it right after saving the hostages on the second floor.
also to receive the devastator only one hostage can die. the hologram room hostage dies nearly 100% of runs if you just open the door, and one of the firing range hostages typically dies as well. and, even if both firing range hostages live, if you only open the hologram room door but don't save the hostage, objective two will complete too late and carrington's messages delay at the end and waste about ten seconds.
i think he's referring to the ramp right at the beginning of the level. that's what i was talking about, anyway.

Doesn't exist in PDX. My last 500 falls or so all ended between 5.38 and 5.48 so it's VERY consistent. I've have managed to find very very small improvements in very beginning which gave me 5.38 and 5.40 but definately not enough for 5.33 or even 5.36. So there's definately some minor execution diffrence Trent must be using :p

seems like there's a spot that you can land on that doesn't disrupt your downward momentum as much. also the timing of the triple a is important. i was getting 5.40s and 5.43s during this, then 5.33 came out of nowhere.

Yeah it works,I just suck at hitting pillars from afar (I think PDX is a bit harder than n64 when it comes to aiming, at least when the sensitivity is set high). The reason i went around this time is because i wasn't playing seriously, I had never hit that 3rd pillar like that before so i always tried to go for the easy set. This works fine so far since the wr is still so sucky but i guess we'll be forced to switch eventually.

Instead of going straight for the punch on Cass, wait in front of her desk for a little while until she starts shooting, then run behind her and start pushing her out of her office. Doesn't always work, but maybe 50% chance? It usually takes like 4 seconds for Cass to run out of her office and with waiting 1 extra second in front of her desk this probably saves around 3 seconds?

Btw, i'm curious as to what strat you used for 1:31 on Maian SOS Agent? Personally i've used 2 diffrent strats. First one is the "normal" strat where you simply run to the first elevator and try to time the closing perfectly. Second one can be faster but seems very inconsistent and is done by shooting with the dragon right after exiting the second room (Kinda like on PA) so a guard uses the first lift and it closes on you as you get there. It's seems alot less consistent than N64 though and at least 50% of the time the guard doesn't even react.
I figured i'd also write the CI agent strat here in case someone finds it useful or i forget it in the future:
Both combat boosts immediately.
Open firing range door + holo room door and enter the far elevator just like normal N64 strat. Do the N64 strat for the rest of the level. Firing range door should be open as you get back so either double press A if you have a fast run to keep it open or single press if you were slightly slower and doors are about to close. Hope for objective 1 to complete while in 2nd elevator.

What is the best strat for Attack Ship A? It's the only level where i don't have a descent time yet so i'm trying to figure out how it works.
I may be wrong but N64 strat doesn't seem to work. Elvis never completes objective 2 unless you wait around for him for a while. So i'm curious about the best way to do that section? If i wait around for him then obj 2 completes long before i have a chance to reach the previously locked door so obviously alot of time wasted.

Used same strat as in Pr's topic except i killed the first 4 skedars upstairs ASAP, then turned around and waited for elvis. However, by the time you turn around, elvis must've warped and already be there for any chance of 2:10-2:11 making it a really gay wr to go for. And then of course you need obj 2 to complete and ending to be good etc etc.

Also, i couldn't remember Trent's strat so i improvised a bit and came up with this strat that should be optimal:
1. A + Left turn + Pause immediately, Choose combat boost
2. Keep Left turn + Repause for earlier combat boost usage
3. Left strafe + Left turn + Hold trigger to use both combat boosts
4. Go for elevator button ASAP, Switch to right strafe at the first door, and punch the guy before you press the button.
5. Go around the stoves and punch the girl on the way back
6. You should only have to punch the keycard dude once since you punched both the guy and the girl
7. When you get back to elevator, it'll be tight but you can just make it before it closes.
Combat boosts will wear off when you start talking to pres.

The president was fully through the door to the "Trent + 2 Blondes room" when the timer was still on 45 which i guess is good. Then timer was on low-mid 50 i think when he went through the door to escape pod room. It's very good to stop pause-pushing after the Blondes room and just full-strafe into the wall on the right.
Btw, what's the AF1 PA strat for after you've reached president? When is it optimal to use the second combat boost? (i used it just before Blondes, but i dunno if that's good?)
Also i found an alternative PA strat which is probably alot easier to survive and seems to be able to get almost-wr speed. The idea is to glitch into the basement just after talking to president, and then
doing the whole level "backwards". That way you don't have to go through the same sections twice but instead you can run directly for the autopilot switch. Also guards will be way easier to deal with.
So here's how it's done:
1. Use the SA strat i mentioned above with 2 combat boosts.
2. Instead of going the normal route for president, do it like my TAS and jump onto the railing of the stairs and glitch into his office. Make sure Joanna ends up in a "halfway stuck through floor"-
state.
3. While talking to president, make sure you always stay close to the walls, otherwise you go back to normal mode. So move over to the president along the left wall, and look at him until he's said his 2nd line. (Joannas first line and presidents second are only started if you are looking towards the pres)
4. After that, keep moving along the wall until you reach the far door (with a guy standing outside it with his back towards you), stay in the left corner here.
5. Just wait for cinema...
6. After pressing A, Joanna will fall into the basement automaticly, and you can start running doing the whole thing backwards.
7. Most guards will be caught off guard, making it easy. After killing first dude near the escape pod with the laptop, throw it as a sentry gun (just like you'd normally do here).
8. Use the KF7 you just picked up for upcoming 3 guards.
9. Use Disarm to punch out the Blondes! (make sure to hit their back)
10. Throw mine...
11. Autopilot, whatever
12. President should complete a little later
So yeah that's it, i wouldn't recommend it for going for wr but it's a really fun strat to fool around with :P

good work. for air force one pa, i use the second combat boost just after the cutscene while going down the ramp. no reason why; i just thought that's what everyone did lol. using this strat i'm fairly certain with a fast president 1:18 or 1:19 is possible.
the only issue with using both combat boosts at the start is you're wasting a portion of the boost on the elevator up, IE the timer is slowed and the elevator is slowed. you could be using that time moving at regular speed elsewhere in the level while the timer is slowed. not sure if this is optimal or not in the remainder of the level.
also, is your statement about punching both the guy and the girl leading to a 1-punch kill on the keycard guy true? i can't seem to get that to work. i know if he bends over it takes like 10-12 punches to kill him, but normally it takes 4-5 so i haven't really had a problem with it.
i've been halfheartedly playing maian PA just for kicks

The statement is only true if you punch em both somewhat fast while in combat boost.
And If the keycard guy is standing up when taking out gun , i can do him in 2-3 punches fairly consistenly.
Btw, problem with using combat boost at the ramp is that you have to wait for the first 2 NSA guards to appear. Also you won't have enough combat boost to deal with all guards i think.

Came from outta nowhere on a really long and crappy session. I was about to quit when i started playing some Def SA in a "not-really-serious" manner. 5-10 mins later i get a start without mistakes, hit the ecm mine, then get past the 2 guards smoothly, 2nd glitch as usual... Then when falling and pausing i found myself in a perfect position above the comp, so i only had to adjust my aim slightly, and long before hitting the comp i knew i had found a perfect angle for the throw. So i started throwing slighly before landing, then went for the elevator as soon as ECM mine was thrown and ended the level ASAP. Probably my best ending ever.
This time is pretty insane, especially considering that i didn't watch cinema to get the door after necklace open. One of my better wr's for sure.

This level is really difficult to complete since obj 2 rarely completes. In this run i got an early obj 2 for the first time ever, which i didn't even know was possible. Then after getting the RCP there's often a guard or two blocking your path out or killing you. None of that this time though (i guess firing range room was so fast that they didn't even have a chance to get there). Really awesome and super-lucky run.

Attack Ship SA 2:37.86 - Pretty slow first half, good ending though (2:16 elvis)
Had like a 100 runs after this where i got to the ending with 2:33-2:35 speed. But with elvis dying 75% of the time, Bridge skedars randomly surviving a mauler shot 25% of the time, Not finding the double maulers 20% of the time, 2nd skedar spawning too early 30% of the time and 2nd skedar becoming invincible and surviving the fully charged double mauler shots 75% of the time it's really frickin difficult to get a decent completion.

I tried a bit today to improve my 1:22.70 on Rescue but even though it was a really good session i only got a single run where i hit the dragon and got the disguise with a 24'ish second elevator shut. That run ended up 1:22.76 though and had the slow door on way back from obj 2 closed, meaning it was roughly a second faster than my wr run. So i figured it might be worth an upload anyway, especially since Rescue A didn'thave any sub 1:23 vid before:

1:20 is clearly possible but since you only get the disguise on a fast run like every 3 hours or so it's really really hard to get even 1:21.
Also i was wondering if it was a well known fact that you can get guards to open the door to final corridor and have obj 3 completed before other objectives? I only found out about it today and don't think i've heard it explicitly mentioned anywhere? It's probably useless though since you need to be at the spot where obj 3 completes in order to end the level. However, it's pretty funny to sneak in and steal elvis from the guys performing the autopsy. (they don't notice Joanna or the fact that elvis is gone and just continues with the autopsy in midair :p). Also pushing elvis close to an edge can have interresting effects:

When I was in norway recently I tried PDX for the first time but the controls were a nightmare :P Well I've heard before that it's harder to keep full speed in the strafe with the analogue stick, do you have to hold the stick like perfectly in posision or how does this work?
It would have helped if I could have chosen to do the strafing with the right stick and looking around with the left stick though, but the way it was now was a complete mind fuck.

Umm yeah controls takes a long time to figure out, however with practise you can become really good at it. Here's some points that might explain how to strafe well:
From what i've noticed it doesn't work well on all controllers. For example i have 4 controllers total and i'm only able to play on 1 of them. If i try strafing on any of the others i fail completely.
A mistake i used to make in the beginning was that i pressed the analog stick with too much force. Just gently hold the analog stick in place and your chances of finding a full strafe increases quite a bit. As you get better at finding the spot this point becomes less important.
I'm not sure how "perfect" your positioning needs to be, when i play almost always get a good strafe, maybe not 100% perfect but good enough for most wr's (some agent wr's like Villa and Infiltration can be very difficult). In order to find the "sweet spot" i usually start off in the middle and push the analog stick straight forward (finding the correct starting forward angle is key, i often redo the releasing and push analog stick forward move several times during cinemas before i feel like i've found it), and then move it until it pretty much point towards the right end of the LB button (For right strafe). A beginners mistake is probably that you push the stick too far to the left or right, as it's very easy to get confused about the sticks absolute angle when watching the television screen and doing strafe changes and stuff.

defection is the level to play if you are having difficulty with the controls :) as long as you have patience and learn how to speech skip, you can probably get a third place time, at least on PA.
i didn't use the RTA strat. haven't really fooled around with it much, but the current WR strat is pretty optimized in terms of lift timing.

I don't remember actually, but i always thought speech skip was impossible/extremely inconsistent in PDX so i just assumed i didn't use it on Defection. I could very well be wrong though.
Edit: Looked back in this topic and yeah i definately used speech skipping. (Since you had a 1:23 video with speech skipping and i must've watched that before going for lower :p) Guess my memory isn't too good :nesquik:

heh, no worries. it's odd that defection seemingly is the only level where you can speech skip.
we still need to figure out why messages occasionally disappear for no reason (pelagic II). would save a lot of time if it could be executed consistently.

Right, I accidentally posted in PRs. was talking about my defection 1:17.88 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RoyPhWq-wo and villa PA 1:25.76 . Both i got about a month or 2 ago. I would definitely play up some P2 if i could get a consistent skip but until then im pretty dubious about that one. A shame because its such an amazing level.

Thanks Jeb, and SMF that vid proves that 6.55 is possible. No reason to stop just because I got 6.6 first, especially since I said I wasn't aiming for it in the first place, and I am not playing it anymore except aiming for a PA 9. It happened, it's done, please no reason to get angry over something like a duel record.

Dat Airbase agent 1:10.55. Was tempted to play this after getting 114. This took me about a day so its highly improvable. An insane dragon part can save like .5 over this (but is super hard to do properly). Then my panel was total crap. Mid 109 or better is very possible. The most troll part of this level by far is the elevator door press. The hitbox is ridiculously smaller than on n64 and I miss it 80% of the time. Sorry about the terrible vid quality. I might upload a better version soon.

Thanks EG, yeah it's just a level that appeals to me for a lot of reasons. It's relatively low rng, no cinema, short, and easy to get a run to the end. Very setup based really. Panel setup is a bit harder on Xbox but fast lasers is so much easier.

YES! first completion with the strats that I completely made up and wanted to test. They work alright lol. copied Chuya Takizawa's strats as well from the N64 2:06.
There will be ear deafening yells at the end. Please turn down volume as I start killing the Skedar at the end before Elvis shows up.

Lol wtf, so Elvis warping actually works? That's so wierd. I can't remember who or why the N64 strat was abandoned in the first place, but considering the fact that everyone was trying to use it in the beginning (and knew about the randomness/potentially low probabilities), I just don't see how this could've been overlooked.
I guess the completion rate must be incredibly low or something? Roughly how often does it work?

Well, to be honest that was the first time it completed after I switched to Chuya's 2:06 strats and it only took 15 ish minutes.
Had another grinding session just now and got 4 completions in 25 minutes, took another 45 minutes to an hour for another and after 10 more minutes without one I stopped for today.
Now the real way to lower the time is to make the 2nd to last elevator on time and to have the perfect final 3 skedar. whoever can do that first will have probably an unbeatable UWR on XBLA.
just like Chuya does on N64.

So Timokles on XBLA, or as I like to call him, the Perfect Ace of PDX came out with a 17 second untied on Investigation SA and I have to say with this it might mean sub 2 is possible on N64? They use the same strats I think so if a cleaner run can be done then it might be possible for another giant untied on PD N64.

Attack Ship SA 2:36.90!!! :o
So with a new untied on Attack Ship SA on the N64 I decided to try copying the strats and managed to score a 21 second pb and wr by .6 seconds. Session took only an hour and I can see this going down to 2:30-2:31
