We're back, for our 6th year of competition!
We are allowed 100 players in our Pigskin Pick'em pool, so everyone is encouraged to play along! There's no need to be an "NFL expert," because what we do is very simple. Just pick which 16 teams you think will win each week... that's all there is to it! Luck plays a major factor in most weeks, so it's not rare to see Americans who watch 4 games a week being beaten soundly by Canadians and Brits who guess largely at random. So, no excuse not to play along; you'll enjoy it!
As always, the group is hosted at ESPN. To get started, head to
games.espn.go.com/pigskin/frontpage (http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/frontpage)
Sign in (or sign up, if you've never played at ESPN before), Create An Entry, and make your picks for Week One. After you submit them, click Join a Group on the upper left. Search for
The NFL Elite
You'll be asked for a password to enter the private group. Ours is

There, you're set!
EDIT - And now it's time for everyone's favorite...
2006 NFL Season Predictions!
Everyone post who you expect to play in the Super Bowl this season, and who's going to win. At the end of the season we'll take a look back and see who (if anyone) called it correctly.
EDIT 2 -
This year's Superbowl will feature the...
Broncos defeating the Giants
You heard it here first!
-
Seahawks over Colts
-
I was going to say Colts over Bears, but...as much as the Cowboys make me sick...I'll have to predict...
Colts over Cowboys!
-
Panthers over Colts
-
Colts over Panthers, rawr.
-
Here's my preds for the whole year. I made this little Excel sheet that displays the entire schedule, so you can fill in the cells for wins/losses and not lose track of records and who plays who and all. Mine is up at thevectorman.net/comeasur...fl2006.xls (http://thevectorman.net/comeasur/asdf/nfl2006.xls) all filled out, but I'll give a quick overview here in this post in case you're too lazy to look.

Super Bowl 41: COLTS over Giants!!!
No, I won't be using this entire list for Pickem all year, I'll definitely change some around as we go, but I'll keep this list like it is just to check how I did at the end of the year. Can't wait to hear Wheat's take on it, for sure!
-
I'll go with neos pick then, told you i know nothing about this silly sport.
-
You have to pick one team from each Conference, Fal.
-
super bowl 51? 41*?
Broncos>all, err... Cowboys
-
Seahawks over Broncos!
-
Giants???
The chargers have had a super bowl team two years in a row now and could easily somehow miss the playoffs again--just amazing. (hint fire head coach)
SD has the best team in the entire AFC but the coach has choked more meaningful/playoff games than anybody else so...
That leaves Indy--oh no Peyton Manning is still the QB...
I guess it's pittsburgh.
vs
Giants??? What are you all on?
The NFC has like eight teams that could easily win this. Reminds me of the super tecmo bowl simulations when somebody different would usually make it (my favorite--the saints went all the way once lol--the patriots actually got there once too--sims are so funny)
I'll go with Dallas. They're good enough to get there.
Seahawks--let's see alexander on madden cover--last few SB runner ups didn't make the playoffs next year...
Pitt wins to make it close to a dynasty.
Kinda silly to criticize preseason projections because the following always happens--some team you thought was going 4-12 always goes 12-4 and vice versa killing playoff preds lol.
-
Cowboys over Colts
-
PDO predicts...
Brian19King (5:47:02 PM): Either way, I go with Cincy over Chicago 27-16
Jimbo says...
GoldenJimbo007 (10:47:59 PM): Panthers over Cincinatti...
-
I'd guess it will be between dallas/carolina and seattle in the NFC and between the colts/steelers in the AFC.
I'll just make a guess and say carolina loses to indy.
-
Alright week 1 has been and gone already so time to look at how the best of The Elite performed:
1 packattack - 11
Andrews - 11
3 Thiedeman - 10
Clark Kills - 10
Sanders - 10
Sucram's crappy picks! - 10
Packattack and Wiff set the early pace amonst The Elite with 11 correct picks and establish themselves in the top five percentile of the ~175,000 participants this year.
In a tie for 3rd, Ultimate G, Sanders and Sucram are joined by Clark - who has wasted no time in starting to restore some credibility after that horrendous draft - with 10 correct picks and a somewhat decent 84.4% percentile.
Boss watch: In a rare absence from any leaderboard, last years winner heads the best of the rest with 9 correct picks and a 66.4 percentile. Boss has to be disappointed with his early showing but nevertheless establishes a reasonable platform on which to build from next week.
Games are back again in just four days. Dont forget those picks!
-
*kills self for predicting the Chiefs to do so well*
I doubt they'll win 7 games now.
-
Apart from the Colts and Patriots i know nothing of the other teams, i just choose a team at random or choose who seems to be on form each week based on their home and away records. Seems to work well for me..
-
I also use the random picking method!
It didn't come off well for me though.
-
week 2 is going to come down to about 3 or 4 games:
Panthers @ Minn
Giants @ Eagles
Redskins @ Cowboys
Pitt @ Jacksonville
These will probably make or break the picks for week 2 since most of the other games are heavily leaning towards one team. Or there could be a lot of upsets and everyone will suck but who knows.
-
Bucs @ Falcs should be in there too...
-
I didn't include bucs @ falcons in there because the percentages are over 83% for atlanta which is completely one sided.
-
Didn't know you were actually looking at pick stats and not the actual closeness of teams in the games. :P
-
I was looking at the closeness of the teams for my pick and in reality they are not that close at all. Atlanta is much better right now.
On another note, that Giants/Eagles game was absolutely amazing. I had gone back and forth on that one and changed my pick to nyg sunday morning, but I didnt really care about that. The game was very crazy. Phili's play calling cost them the game though, which has got to be very frustrating because they were the better team all game.
Looking at next weeks picks, its going to be very tough. I only had confidence in about 2 or 3 of the games so it should be a separation day for the standings next week
-
Better late then never they say. Lets take a look at how The Elite got on in week 2:
1 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 14
2 Sanders - 13
Woll's Roommate - 13
bryze - 13
D-12 - 13
In what can only be described as a statistical anomaly (similar to only needing 0.5 points from your kicker come the Monday Night game to win your weekly matchup; but having said kickers team shutout), QB occupies the top spot by himself with 14 correct picks. Sanders makes a second straight appearance in the top5 and is joined by Come, bcks and Woll's 'Roommate' with 13 correct picks (or in Comes case - guesses)
With that in mind the top of the table overall now looks pretty crowded:
1 packattack - 23
Andrews - 23
QB's Mediocre Picks! - 23
Sanders - 23
5 Woll's Roommate - 22
Packattack and Wiff are now joined by QB and Sanders in a four-way tie with a 96.4 percentile. Woll's Roommate climbs to take sole possession of 5th place with a 91.4 percentile.
After what some might say was a disappointing first week, Boss falls another point behind the leaders with his total now at 20. Fal has 21, so yeah. With that thought to ponder we'll leave it there for this week I think.
Dont forget those picks!
-
Crowded leaderboards this week as several of The Elite step up their game
Lets look at Week 3 results:
1 Andrews - 11
Haley - 11
3 Thiedeman - 10
Sucram's crappy picks! - 10
mikerspd nosepickers - 10
Clark Kills - 10
Fallens - 10
BrewCity Blitzed - 10
Esox Magnus - 10
Whilst Wiff is now becoming a familiar face on the leaderboards, Comet has shot up from nowhere for a tie of first place this week with 11 picks. Last week saw some funny results so its no suprise to see the likes of Fal doing well with a 10 picks and a tie of third. Joining him are several recognisable names, including an Ngamer Dad and Ngamer Cousin - but no sign of Jon himself! I can't even begin to contemplate the awkward silences in the Bearder household this week
As for the overall table:
1 Andrews - 34
2 Thiedeman - 31
QB's Mediocre Picks! - 31
Fallens - 31
Clark Kills - 31
mikerspd nosepickers - 31
Sanders - 31
Sucram's crappy picks! - 31
Wiff is now your clear leader by 3, and with a 99.3 percentile
The consolation is we all know it just cant last. Then again I look through the challenging pack and few of those names really give me any confidence that the gap can be closed. QB is a fine example of someone merely riding his luck to a tie for 2nd and a 91.8 percentile. On the other hand though Fal's shrewd, astute and well researched picks are now being rewarded and he certainly is stepping up to the challenge!
Meanwhile Boss is already 6 behind 1st place and with many other heavyweights still yet to make leaderboard appearances I expect the competition to really heat up in the coming weeks.
Don't forget those picks!
-
Is there something wrong with espn.com. On my spread picks it changed 2 of the games to NP and on my group picks it changed my bears pick to seattle and rams to detroit. WTF is wrong with espn.com?
EDIT: On a brighter note, I made out big on a 4 team (200 dollar) parlay I placed in the NFL. It consisted of buffalo -1 dallas -9.5 chicago -2.5 and saint louis -5.5. Saint louis almost cost me that bet with a poor performance against detroit. It makes up for some terrible luck I had on saturday. I picked LSU -31.5. They were up 35-0 with 8 mins left in the 2nd quarter and proceed to take out their starters. Then they start to give up pts to Mississippi State with their second string guys in and it gets down to 25 points but eventually they score some more and get it to 48-17 with 2 mins left but instead of going for the PAT to get to 49-17 they go for 2 and miss it (inexplicable decision here). They won by 31 points instead of 32 and i lose a heartbreaker by a half a point. I try to make up for that with a 3 team 10 point teaser with Wisconsin -1 tennessee -3 and USC -6.5. The first 2 games easily go rght with wisconsin winning by 50 or so and Tenn by 35 +. In the USC game, they score late in the 4th quarter to go up 27-15 and instead of going for 2 points to try to make it a 14 point game, Pete Carroll kicks the PAT and the score is 28-15. Shortly after Washington state scores a TD to make it 28-22. At this point i know i lost my bet because there is 2 mins left and USC isnt going to score again. I rooted for Washington state to win so that pete carrolls mental blunder of not going for 2 would cost USC the win but WSU falls short on a hail marry at the end of the game. I've never lost 2 bets by a half point in the same day before. I should have never had the USC game in there to begin with. Too many other free 10 point teaser wins out there.
A solid weeks of nfl picks gets me to 11-3 for the week and a tie for 1st in the group for the week though. Makes up for an embarassing set of picks last week. Time to set up my college and nfl bets for next week now. (Michigan -16 V. Michigan state looks pretty free with a 10 point tease for sure)
-
My picks sucked ass this week, all was going well until this week!
-
Some very refreshing changes to the leaderboard this week and a debut for yours truly!
Lets look at Week 4 results:
1 Mike - 11
2 Sanders - 10
QB's Mediocre Picks! - 10
darth rob - 10
Woll - 10
Not to be outdone by Ngamer Dad and Ngamer Cousin, its Ngamer Other Cousin who tops the list this week with 11 corect picks. Its now abundantly clear who didnt inherit the nfl brains in the Bearder family. In second place Sanders and QB are joined by leaderboard newcomers Woll ME. Wheeee
Overall now looks like this:
1 Andrews - 43
2 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 41
Mike Entry1 - 41
Sanders - 41
5 Clark Kills - 40
Thiedeman - 40
Wiff retains the lead with 43 picks and a 99.0 percentile! A final desperate reach by QB sees him close the gap to 2 with 41 picks. Nevertheless from next week I expect to see him drop away into the pickem wilderness where the likes of Donovan McNabbs mor reside. Neverthtless Wiff should be looking over his shoulder as Sanders and Ngamer Other cousin share the 2nd place and a 95.4 percentile. These 2 should possess the knowhow to push on. Clark and UltimateG continue to hang around in 5th with 40 correct and a 91.9 percentile. Boss halts the decline and stabilises at 6 behind the leader. Is this the start of the comeback of the year? You'll only find out if you
don't forget those picks!
-
I'm still waiting for a respond from espn.com about them screwing up those 2 games and my spread picks. It should change my week 4 score to 11-3 instead of 9-5. I even bet on the Bears and Lions with quite a bit of money last week. I transfer my picks to a spreadsheet as well so it wasn't a selection error. ESPN will fix it eventually I hope.
-
I almost had a really perfect prediction for week 5 if Baltimore would have kicked another FG.
-
Nice pick with the score Boss. Balt could have kicked a FG before that int at the end of the game and then gone for the onside kick if they wanted but most coaches dont do it that way. I figured 17-10 would be way to high scoring to ask these 2 teams. I did a parlay on the game with denver -5.5 and under 33 points (I took vegas' side on this game since everyone was taking over and Baltimore)
Colts cost me on one of my big bets this weekend. they were -19 with the spread and i teased them down to 10 with chicago and carolina and they somehow only beat Tenn by 1 point. Thats the last time I try to bet on the colts this year probably since they almost screwed me last week @ NYJ.
-
Week 5 has been and gone and witnessed some major movements.
Lets get right to it with the weekly scores:
1 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 14
Neo's Aussie Picks - 14
packattack - 14
Boss - 14
D-12 - 14
FIVE people managed the ace round with 14/14 correctly picked and thus tie for first place! (QB is technically 5th on alphabetical order though) Can you believe its taken five weeks for Neo, one of last years top players, to make it onto the leaderboard?
Lets check the overall table:
1 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 55
2 Andrews - 54
3 packattack - 53
Neo's Aussie Picks - 53
Mike - 53
Sanders - 53
Wiff continues to look strong with 54 correct picks and a 97.6 percentile. Packattack really backs up his optimism by bouncing back into the tie for 3rd and a 95.5 percentile. That ace round in week 5 also really helps Neo who is now in the overall top5. Boss also makes a lot of ground this week and is now just THREE behind Wiff. The competition gets more intense as the weeks go by! Can Boss cut the lead again next week? Remember you wont get anywhere if you
dont forget those picks!
-
I look forward to making it back in first. I'm letting someone else have some fun being in 1st of course
-
Man did this week suck. A bunch of games came down to the wire and I was on the wrong end of nearly all of them. How does olindo mare not even have the leg to kick a 49 yarder. That thing landed way short. Rams blew a huge lead and cinci/washington were just unacceptable. I can't ever seem to have consecutive successful weeks. What hurts worse is that the redskins loss cost me in 3 bets I had riding in the NFL. How do you beat Jacksonville and not Tennessee. All around this weekend sucked horribly.
Die Brunell.
(Can you give me a few dimes for what you lost me this week)
-
I was going to ask for some handy hints when tipping, but I think it's too late for me now
-
Quite frankly the less said about week 6 the better, but lets take a look anyway:
1 Sucram's crappy picks! - 10
2 DarkHawks Supergood Picks - 9
D-12 - 9
Octo's Picks - 9
Ng's Superpicks! - 9
Well it was a crazy week so congrats to Sucram for managing 10 picks and the sole occupation of first. Octo and Darkhawk also surface to tie second place with Brandon and 9 picks. They say if you give a monkey an infinite amount of pens and an infinite amount of time, eventually it will write the complete works of Shakespeare. I guess the same can be said of Jon's debut on the weekly leaderboard, also with 9 picks. More importantly, its always nice to be right. Having bashed QB for weeks (if thats what you call stating the truth) predicting the inevitable decline in his luck, he finally delivered with an astonishingly poor 7 picks. I mean, you just cant help but feel proud of your work at moments like these.
Moving on to the overall table:
1 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 62
2 Sanders - 61
Sucram's crappy picks! - 61
4 Neo's Aussie Picks - 60
Andrews - 60
I didnt have faith in the chasing pack before and quite frankly I have even less now. Cmon guys, QB had a monumentally appalling week and still retains first place with 62 picks and a 98.0 percentile. Im tempted not to mention the rest of you in protest, but at least some consistency is being shown at the top. Sanders and Sucram tie second with 61 picks and 96.5 percentile. Wiff continues his fall from grace whilst Neo retains a leaderboard spot with 60 picks and a 94.2 percentile. Boss has just about dropped off the end of the page and is now 6 behind the leader again. I do believe that gap can be closed though, and with just 2 days to kickoff make sure you
don't forget those picks!
-
Youd think after last week it couldnt get any worse. But it did. Roll on week 7 scores:
1 Andrews - 10
2 Fallens - 9
3 D-12 - 8
haley - 8
Wiff is just a machine. Im tempted to open a bodog account and use his picks as inside info to make some serious $$. Whatever hes doing it has to be illegal, and returning 10 picks on a week as atrocious as last is good enough proof in my opinion! Betting with Fals picks on the other hand would be a guarantee of going broke, but like all reckless gamblers they do have the occasional big day and his 9 correct picks would seem to justify that. Brandon and Comet put up a solid 8 for the week. Nornally Id include the top5, but there were just soooooo many tied for 5th that id quite frankly rather do something else with my evening than filter through it all.
Anyway lets check the overall scores:
1 Andrews - 70
2 Sanders - 68
Sucram's crappy picks! - 68
4 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 67
D-12 - 67
Wiff reestablishes a commanding lead with 70 picks overall and a staggering 99.5 percetile. Talk about representing! Sanders and Sucram continue to maintain the pace - just 2 behind with 68 picks and a 98.0 percentile. QB confirms he is on a downward slump with that lead now having disintegrated into a 3 pick deficit! Brandon joins him in 4th with 67 picks and a 96.5 percentile. Boss is now an astonighing 9 picks behind the leader - surely this cant be the end? We're not even half way yet! Which means a lot more weeks left to go of making sure you
dont forget those picks!
-
There are a lot better sites to bet on sports than bodog and it's not even close. Sports betting isn't illegal.
(but the NFL was behind that anti online gambling thing recently signed into law [basically doesn't allow US companies to send $ for online gambling purposes of any kind--it's still not illegal--just definitely not approved of])
-
Well, this may be a horrid week for my picks (I have 4 so far...), but on the bright side, thanks to the Raiders (whom I actually PICKED correctly), I won the Elite's Eliminator challenge! Wheeeee.
In other news, I hate the Seahawks right now.
-
my posts arent serious wheat
-
Alright here we go with the week 8 wrapup!
1 packattack - 9
Slayer's Entry - 9
3 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 8
darth rob - 8
Neo's Aussie Picks - 8
Thiedeman - 8
Clark Kills - 8
Ng's Superpicks! - 8
All change at the head of the weekly board with pack back to form and Slayer joining him with a reasonable 9 correct picks. Ive been expecting more from pack this season, and with his performance this week we could either be witnessing the start of a real push for elite domination, or a final gasp of air before submersion into the depths now inhabited by the likes of QB. Speaking of which, QB shows his face this week in joint third, together with several of the historical nfl elite heavyweights, with 8 correct picks. Jon is also in the tie.
Moving swiftly on to overall...
1 Andrews - 76
2 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 75
3 packattack - 74
darth rob - 74
5 Sanders - 73
Thiedeman - 73
Neo's Aussie Picks - 73
Mike - 73
D-12 - 73
Wiff retains overal lead with 76 picks. However a poor week 8 showing means his percentile has dropped significantly to 98.6. Talk about not representing! QB hovers around in second with 75 picks whilst pack is joined by none other than me in third with 74! Thats a 97.6 percentile for QB and 96.1 for those in third! Big tie in 5th with Sanders, UltimateG, Neo, Brandon and one of those Ngamers on 73 picks and a 94.1 percentile. Time for some of those guys to start challenging for the top spot already! Boss still aint too far away. All it takes is one crazy week and hes back in contention! But to be up there you gotta make sure you
dont forget those picks!
-
Can you believe we're over half way through the season already? Lets take a look at week 9
1 D-12 - 9
Sucram's crappy picks! - 9
Fallens - 9
bryze - 9
DarkHawks Supergood Picks - 9
mikerspd nosepickers - 9
Esox Magnus - 9
A seven way tie for first this week sees some infrequent visitors return with 9 picks. Brandon and Sucram are no stranger to the leaderboard but Fal, Darkhawk, mikers and Ngamer Dad havent been up at the top anywhere near consistently, if at all. Come is arguably the biggest suprise this season (together with Boss). I expected much better performances but its never too late to go on a run so lets see how things go over the next few weeks.
1 Andrews - 83
2 D-12 - 82
darth rob - 82
4 Sanders - 81
Sucram's crappy picks! - 81
Neo's Aussie Picks - 81
QB's Mediocre Picks! - 81
packattack - 81
Overall Wiff retains his lead with 83 picks and a 97.8 percentile. Ive somehow managed to get into a tie for second with Brandon on 82 and a 96.4 percentile. The tie for 4th contains some big names; some on the way up - others on their way down and Sanders just cant stop hovering there or thereabouts! Sucram, Neo, QB and pack join him with 81 picks and a 94.6 percentile. With the new faces on the weekly leaderboard starting to exert some pressure overall the question is will any of the incumbents fumble their lead away like QB or continue to display Eagles like stats in a league where the stats DO matter. 2nd to 15th are separated by just 4 picks so theres plenty of opportunity to see change at the top in the weeks ahead.
Dont forget those picks!
-
That was week 10!
1 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 10
BrewCity Blitzed - 10
Esox Magnus - 10
Boss - 10
and that was a complete waste of time because look whos back on top of the weekly leaderboard. QB. As if the weeks results werent mediocre enough. 10 picks was all it took to top the chart and that seems a little low considering that the bye weeks are a thing of the past, Nevertheless only 4 managed to make the correct calls! Ngamer Dad and Ngamer Cousin are up there again but WHOA if it isnt Boss! Well well well this could make things interesting in the overall picture if Boss puts a little run together. (NB. 25323432 people tied for 5th so ive ignored you all)
1 Andrews - 92
2 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 91
D-12 - 91
4 Neo's Aussie Picks - 90
packattack - 90
darth rob - 90
Wiff is still hanging on at the top with 92 picks and a 98.2 percentile. TO be honest we really need at least one eliter pushing 99.5 percentile by the seasons end. I certainly dont back QB for that though despite his persistance. 91 picks only brings a 97.2 percentile these days and thats surely too much ground to make up. Brandon on the other hand has an excellent chance. Neo, pack and me share 4th with 90 picks and a 95.7 percentile. Those risky picks just havent paid off how id have liked in the last couple of weeks but the odd lucky result has kept me up there ... barely. But the only chance of avoiding freefall is to make sure i
dont forget those picks!
-
Week 11, just six to go!
1 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 12
2 D-12 - 11
darth rob - 11
Clark Kills - 11
5 Neo's Aussie Picks - 10
packattack - 10
bryze - 10
mikerspd nosepickers - 10
Mike - 10
Ok. This is getting pretty tedious. Cant SOMEBODY do something interesting on the weekly leaderboard. QB yawns his way to first with 12 picks. Me, Brandon and Clark struggle along with 11 to tie for second. Then the rest of the usual faces tie for 5th - Neo, pack, come, mikers and one of the Ngamers - with 10 picks
1 QB's Mediocre Picks! - 103
2 D-12 - 102
3 darth rob - 101
4 Neo's Aussie Picks - 100
Andrews - 100
packattack - 100
Overall at least we had SOME movement. And its downward for Wiff! QB takes over in first with 103 picks and a 99.2 percentile. Not the first time hes been on the top, so we get to see him throw it away twice in one year! Brandon takes sole posesion of 2nd with 102 and a 98.7 percentile. Ive scraped back up to 3rd with 101 and 97.9 percentile. All of this is largely thanks to Wiffs poor week which sees him drop down to a tie for 4th with Neo and pack on 100 picks and 96.8 percentile. Just off the radar is come. Could this be the story weve been waiting for? If youve been lazy youve already missed 3 games this week, so
dont forget those picks!
-
Congrats to Rob on a kickass woot-tastic league-leading 13 amazing picks this week! Following at 12 is a cluster-@#%$ of monkeys (yours truly included, curse Chicago's mediocrity). Who are most of those people?
1 darth rob - 13
2 mikerspd nosepickers - 12
Mike Entry1 - 12
BrewCity Blitzed - 12
Sucram's crappy picks - 12
Octo's Picks - 12
Matt8000 the Clueless - 12
With that ownage, and some miserably pathetic performances from QB and Brandon, he leapfrogs into the top spot with 114 putting him at a spectacular 99.0 percentile! He picked up two or more picks on the rest of the top 5.
1. darth rob - 114
2. QB's Mediocre Picks - 113
3. D-12 - 112
4. Neo's Aussie Picks - 111
Andrews Entry1 - 111
...
I just thought it'd look silly for him to celebrate himself, though he probably will anyway.
Hope I did you justice.
-
Weeeeak. I picked Denver over KC when I first went through the list, but I was strongly favoring KC at gametime and even bet them at -1. Just forgot I needed to change my pick.
Still not as bad as when I DID change a pick right at kickoff and they locked the picks on me while I was doing so. 115 of the teams I thought would win have won.
-
nice work mikers!
and with a game today make sure you all
dont forget those picks!
-
To those of you who didnt realise there was a game yesterday: agd. Anyway on with week 13 review..
1 BrewCity Blitzed - 11
2 packattack - 10
Graves - 10
One of the multiple Ngamer forms was the clear leader last week with 11 correct picks. Which just reminds me how little we've seen of the arguably most illustrious competitor with Bearder blood in them. Speaking of players who thus far havent made a huge impression, Graves pops out of nowhere to tie for second with flees on 10 picks. A seven way tie for 4th ends the discussion since I cant be bothered with it.
1 darth rob - 122
2 packattack - 120
BrewCity Blitzed - 120
QB's Mediocre Picks! - 120
5 mikerspd nosepickers - 119
Despite a poor week it seems everyone else near the top also had one and thus Ive managed to cling on at the top with 122 and a 98.7 percentile. QB did even worse yet has managed to retain second place. However hes now tied with two of week 13's big movers with Ngamer cousin (soon to be known as theNgamer if his performances continue) and flees joining him on 120 picks and a 97.1 percentile. Mikers is now in 5th alone with 119 and 95.9 percentile. WHERE HAS WIFF GONE?
dont forget those picks!
-
Just three weeks left of the pickem season so things are really starting to get tense! Lets see who made a move last week:
1 BrewCity Blitzed - 11
bryze - 11
haley - 11
DarkHawks Supergood Picks -11
5 Esox Magnus - 10
Octo's Picks - 10
Clark Kills - 10
Matt8000 the Clueless - 10
Yet more moves from the Ngamers as one of the crew tops the weekly leaderboard yet again! This time its a tie with Come, Comet and Darkhawk on 11 picks. These guys sure are leaving it late to push, but it seems to be working as we'll see below! Theres Ngamers everywhere you look with more in the tie for 5th! A rare appearance near the top for octo and return to form by Clark make it a fourway tie with Matt on 10 picks.
1 BrewCity Blitzed - 131
darth rob - 131
3 packattack - 129
4 mikerspd nosepickers - 128
5 D-12 - 127
bryze - 127
We now have an Ngamer in first place! Its now a tie with 131 picks and a 98.8 percentile. Pack is holding steady 2 picks back in third with 129 and a 97.5 percentile.
Mikers also stays in touch in fourth with 128 and a 96.5 percentile. The real story has to be the COMEback as steve is now up to a tie for 5th with Brandon. 127 picks and a 95.4 percentile is sufficient to kncok QB out of the top5 for the first time in a long time!
Dont forget you should have picked yesterdays game yesterday! However if, like me, you picked Seattle youd probably have looked cooler had you not picked at all
There is Saturday game this week so make sure you dont leave it too late to ensure you
dont forget those picks!
-
The week i had away from the net kinda made my participation in this pointless, everyone would've had a big advantage on me so i haven't carried on
-
Bah, that just makes it funnier when you pass by people who have picked every week.
-
Quote:
makes it funnier when you pass by people who have picked every week
Hell yeah.
-
Just two weeks left of the pickem season so things should get very interesting now! First a check on last week:
1 mikerspd nosepickers - 11
bryze - 11
Andrews - 11
Octo's Picks - 11
Sucram's crappy picks! - 11
Graves - 11
Slayer's Entry - 11
Thats a seven-way tie for first with 11 picks! And it was looking a lot worse on monday morning before the colts stuffed the bengals and knocked a few entries down. Mikers does whats needed to keep in the hunt for first place overall and is joined by a resurgent Wiff, peaking come and leaderboard tweeners octo, sucram, graves and slayer.
Overall week 15 made a reasonable impact:
1 BrewCity Blitzed - 141
2 darth rob - 140
3 mikerspd nosepickers - 139
packattack - 139
5 bryze - 138
After a steady week Ngamer cousin is now the clear leader on 141 and a 98.7 percentile! A poor week from me let pushed my position down to second with 141 and a 98.1 percentile. Topping the weekly leaderboard pushed mikers up to third and closer to no.1 overall. Hes now just 2 behind the leader on 139 and 97.3. Pack is still very much in the hunt in a tie for third. Come is really peaking at the right time and with 138 picks and a 96.5 percentile thats just THREE off the top!
With only two weeks left people will have to start taking a few risks if they want to be no.1 in elite pickem this season! Dont take that ultimate risk though - make sure you
dont forget those picks!
-
I was having a mediocre week, tied with the rest in the lead for the week with 10 going into MNF. Me and brewcity had the same picks all week so I couldn't gain any ground on 1st so I changed my colts pick to Cinci and figured I needed that risk to finally gain some ground on 1st. Turns out he picked cinci too and we had identical picks for the week. I coulda been 2nd alone and one out of 1st. Guess I'll have to be extra sneaky now this week. Its at least fun to be in contention this time around.

Two nights ago, Jimbo bet $20 against QB's $100 that the Packers would make the playoffs this year. At the time it seemed like at least a 5:1 risk, but after things worked like clockwork for the Pack yesterday, the tide is turning! Here's an update on the situation.
* The Packers NEED to beat the Bears on Sunday in Chicago (of course).
* The Rams NEED to lose to the Vikings in Minnesota (both would be 8-8, but the Pack loses the first tiebreaker because the Rams beat us head to head).
That's the bad news. Here's the good news:
* The Panthers don't matter; although they'd be 8-8, they lose the 2nd tiebreaker (Pack are 7-5 in NFC, Panthers could only get to 6-6).
* The Falcons don't matter; although they'd be 8-8, they lose the 2nd tiebreaker (Pack are 7-5 in NFC, Falcons could only get to 6-6).
And most importantly.
* The Giants MIGHT not matter either. If they lose to the Redskins they're out (of course), but they could also miss out with a win on Saturday. Breakdown!
Record: 8-8 for both the Pack and the Giants, tie
2nd Head to Head: Did not play
3rd NFC: 7-5 for both, tie
4th Common Opponents: both played the Eagles, Saints, Bears, and Seahawks (meets the min requirement for 4 common teams).
Giants Record against the 4 = 1-4 (beat only the Eagles)
Packers Record against the 4 = 1-4 (beat only the Bears)
Another tie!
5th Strength of Win: This is the combined winning percentage of all the teams you've beaten.
Giants Beat: Eagles, Skins, Falcons, Cowboys, Bucs, Texans, Panthers
Packers Beat: Lions, Dolphins, Cardinals, Vikings, 49ers, Bears
CURRENTLY...
Giants Strength of Win = 45-60, .429%
Packers Strength of Win = 38-52, .422%
So if the season ended today, the Giants would advance to the playoffs as the NFC 6 seed based on the 5th tiebreaker. HOWEVER, that margin is so tiny that the slightest result could turn things around entirely next weekend. As an example, if things went as poorly as possible for the Giants (Lions beaten by Cowboys, Bucs lose to the Seahawks, Texans topped by Browns, Pants knocked off by Saints) and as good as could be for the Pack (Fins trip up the stumbling Colts, hot Cards outlast the Chargers, charging 49ers blast by the Broncs), that Strength would swing to
Giants = 46-66, .411%
Packers = 43-53, .448%
with Green Bay easily advancing. As you see, it's very much up in the air.
Now, if the Rams win, the Giants win, AND the Pack win... I don't know.
-
ngamer--the rams don't matter in your scenario if the giants win. The eagles win really cleans up a ton of potential scenarios (there was a scenario in which the falcons despite being last in the current pecking order could have gotten the 5 seed and GB even then could only get seed #6). In fact ngamer--the rams only matter if ONLY GB and Stl are tied at 8-8.
edit--plus your strength of victory is off--those have to be even in terms of the number of games (monday night both would add 1-1 regardless of what happened to that total) Somehow you are off 1 game.
Man if the eagles had lost I'd have to make one hell of a long post describing some ridiculous scenarios. I'll summarize tomorrow for those of you not sure what the hell they need (and I don't blame you).
-
Looks like its a 3 way tie at the top with mikers, brew, and myself going into the final week. (I've really been on the wrong side of every last second FG this year) A few others are just a couple behind. Should be an interesting week coming. Personally, I hate the final week because I don't like trying to guess which teams will rest their players and stuff. Typically a lot of the good teams going to the playoffs lose this week so its going to be tricky.
Green Bay won't go to the playoffs Jon because they won't beat the bears. The bears could throw out their 2nd or 3rd team and will beat GB.
-
espn beat me to it
sports.espn.go.com/nfl/ne...id=2674321 (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2674321)
Some of these are fun... team X loss Team Y winning who'd have the same record so they'd win the 3 team tiebreaker but would lose head to head to team Z. Fun stuff. An eagles loss would have made that whole thing another 2 pages. I'm not kidding. There would have been scenarios like team x loses and 3 of the following 4... (heck, as I said earlier there was a scenario in which Atl would have gotten the 5 seed with a Phi loss despite being last in the current pecking order--amazing lol [only 6 games would have had to go right lol])
These are the absolutes
Atl MUST have a Car loss
KC MUST have a Den loss (despite Den pwning in the conf record KC would take them out in the division despite having no tiebreakers against others) A KC loss/tie and Den is in regardless.
The rest of the contenders are rooting highly for KC and Oak. losses by these 2 and everyone else is eliminated.
GB at Chi was the game that got moved to the night. Great another Madden Farve lovefest. Just what I needed
(btw--GB can be eliminated before this game even starts)
Hang on pack--Chi was one dropped pass away from losing to Detroit. Chicago's def isn't looking good now (heck for some reason Hester's playing decent CB minutes and he's TERRIBLE at CB
What the hell is that idiot (yes I think Lovie Smith is an idiot for a on field decision head coach) doing? *reference see playoffs last year and he's done some real mind boggling moves this season if any of you ever noticed anyway.
Teams that need at least 3 others to lose and a win (aka they're screwed)
KC, Jax, Stl, Atl, Ten
Mathematically it's going to be
Den (only way can get knocked out is loss to SF at home and KC beats Jax)
Jets (have to lose to Oak at home--also many scenarios with a Cin loss get them in still)
NYG (tough game at Wash but everyone in the NFC wild card race is on the road at non terrible opponents (well except Stl at Minn)! they could easily all lose)
Sat night NYG at Wash (seems like Wash should win this) on the network that I only get will clear up a lot of this one way or another.
-
Alright then. This may not be the last recap of the season, but it might just be the most important! With just one week to go this is the final chance to get your strategy right and win it all!
Heres week 16 results:
1 haley - 11
2 packattack - 10
mikerspd nosepickers - 10
bryze - 10
Sanders - 10
Ng's Superpicks! - 10
Clark Kills - 10
Comet wins the penultimate weekly title with 11 correct picks. A six-way tie for 2nd on 10 picks is made up from pack, mikers, come, sanders, the artist formerly known as The Ngamer and Clark. Thats a pretty strong list there and with some of those guys challenging for the overall title it ensured some big movement on that leaderboard!
Which leaves overall looking something like this at the top:
1 packattack - 149
BrewCity Blitzed - 149
mikerspd nosepickers - 149
4 bryze - 148
5 darth rob - 147
Now a three way tie at the top! pack and mikers both had strong individual weeks enabling them to make up the ground on Ngamer cousin (The Ngamer)and tie at 149 picks and a 98.2 percentile. Come continue his charge up the leaderboard and is now in second alone at 148 and a 97.5 percentile. Well I thought id try take a few risks a week early since I figured everyone would chance a few picks on the last week and cancel each other out. Needless to say it didnt work so I dropped down to alone at 5th with 147 picks and a 96.7 percentile.
With one week to make sure you
dont forget those picks!
-
Scenarios
All of the following can still 'theoretically win'
packattack -0
BrewCity Blitzed -0
mikerspd nosepickers -0
bryze -1
darth rob -2
D-12 -3
haley -4
Andrews -4
Mike -5
Esox Magnus -5
Sanders -7
Octo's Picks -7
QB's Mediocre Picks! -9
Ng's Superpicks! -12
Boss -14
Sucram's crappy picks! -15
Clark Kills -16
Those tied for first average 10 picks on a week with 16 games. Assuming that they repeat this performance this week then the rest of the players have to do at least the following to win:
packattack - 11 picks
BrewCity Blitzed - 11 picks
mikerspd nosepickers - 11 picks
bryze - 12 picks
darth rob - 13 picks
D-12 - 14 picks
haley - 15 picks
Andrews - 15 picks
Mike - 16 picks
Esox Magnus - 16 picks
some of you need to be taking several gamble picks!
-
for NYG to miss the playoffs with a win
ALL of the following MUST happen
GB over Chi
SF over Den
Ariz over SD
Det over Dal
Mia over Ind
Min over Stl
N.O over Car
Hou over Cle
TB over Sea
Obviously this scenario is easy attainable--just flip a coin and get it perfectly right 9 consecutive times to see how easy it is!
-
Afraid you have been misinformed, wheat.
Note: N.Y. Giants clinch strength of victory tiebreaker over Green Bay if:
1. Detroit or Minnesota lose
2. Any two of the following results occur: Arizona loss, Miami loss, San Francisco loss, Carolina win, Houston win, Tampa Bay win.
EDIT - Two can play at this game!
After the Packers win and Giants lose, ALL of the following would need to happen for the Pack to miss the playoffs:
Rams win against the Vikings on the road
Falcons lose to the Eagles
Panthers lose to Saints
That's about as likely as a Georgia sunset!
-
The same company that you got that information from was the same company where I got that list from.
edit--ngamer is technically (but not realistically) correct--they only need eight of those games (can't be det or minn though)
BUT
then it goes to strength of schedule tiebreaker and GB needs these results
NE over Ten
and 2 out of the following 3 to tie (all 3 would win)
Jax over KC
Buf over Balt
NYJ over Oak
if they're still tied it goes to combined ranks in pts scored and allowed. Right now NYG is 2 ahead of GB in pts allowed and that's not including the teams that should fill in. Thus GB needs to shutout Chi plus have a shitload of low scoring games like 3-0's and would need at least 47 pts scored themselves to go ahead in the other one.
Since that's not likely to happen... they'll need something like 103-0.
Yeah, these scenarios are ridiculous aren't they?
GB has a group of 9 teams that have to win or 12 out of 13.
-
Well a little anti-climax for a finish thanks to espn incompetence but heres the results from the final week:
1 D-12 - 11
2 packattack - 10
bryze - 10
darth rob - 10
Mike - 10
Octo's Picks - 10
Sucram's crappy picks! - 10
Woll - 10
Slayer's Entry - 10
Brandon made a great attempt to move up the leaderboard by winning the final week with 11 picks. A multitude of people had 10 correct, including one of the overal leaders packattack. As we'll see below this was a crucial performance given how other challengers were also in the group with 10 right. Note that despite picking the eagles (and others verifying this pick once the games had started and everyones picks became visible) espn has stil not updated to award me that pick so i should have got 11. Similarly Ngamer cousin BrewCity, who was in a tie for first overall last week, was inexplicably given a score of 0 for the week. This again depsite others verifying that he had infact picked.
Fortunately none of these screwups affected the overall winner:
1 packattack - 159
2 bryze - 158
mikerspd - 158
4 darth rob - 157
D-12 - 157
6 Mike - 154
haley - 154
8 Octo's Picks - 152
Andrews - 152
10 Sanders - 151
11 BrewCity Blitzed - 149
12 Ng's Superpicks! - 146
QB's Mediocre Picks! - 146
14 Esox Magnus - 144
Sucram's crappy picks! - 144
16 Boss 142 -
17 Woll 134 -
18 Clark Kills - 133
19 Graves - 127
Neo's Aussie Picks - 127
Congratulations to pack who wins Elite Pickem 2006-07!! 159 picks and a 98.2 percentile ensured victory this year. Come and mikers finish in a tie for second on 158 and 97.6 percentile. Great effort by both, especially come who made up a lot of ground in the final weeks of the season. Had the Bills beat the Ravens on Sunday he would have won it all! Brandon and myself tie for 4th on 157 and a 96.8 percentile. Unfortunately a lot of the rest of the top20 is a little misleading on performances for the whole season. Ngamer BrewCity was not the only player to appear to have 0 picks this week. Clark, Graves, Neo, Ngamer Dad all had similar issues and thus their final position doesnt really reflect how well they picked this year.
Overall this was a very fun season. The competition was intense with several leadership changes throughout the 17 weeks. Thanks to everyone who participated and I hope you are all as excited about next years contest as I am!
Dont forget that whilst the pickem contest is over this year theres still picks to be made for the playoffs! See Jim's thread here (http://p075.ezboard.com/fperfectdarkelitefrm1.showMessage?topicID=4705.topic):

That sucks that ESPN screwed up so many peoples picks in the final week. I saw brewcity had no picks and was curious as to why. What would his final score have been? I remember ESPN cost me 2 picks early in the season and I stopped doing my spread picks after they gave me a bunch of NP's one week where I did them all. ESPN isn't very good at fixing their problems, thats for sure. Hopefully I can parlay my nfl pick'em success into march madness. I'll post my playoff predictions later this week.
-
lame/10
congrats to everyone that was in 1st for at least one week!
-
yeah ive waited a few days to give them a chance to sort it out but nothing has been resolved

Comeasur37 (21:18:42): Except my upset special of Bills over Ravens!
late game:
not sure how picks went
-
Yeah, congrats Pack. I knew I had to make up some ground in the final week, hence the Bills pick. I really struggled between them and the Panthers, and took the wrong one in the end because the Pants always blew it for me the whole year. I was really surprised that you picked the Jags over the Chiefs in the final week... KC NEVER loses at home in December! Good show anyways, I'll get you next year.
-
Thanks,
I knew that K.C. never loses at home in December. It dated back to like 1992 or something before they lost to Baltimore early in December at home this year. I thought I needed at least one upset to win the thing so i picked that. Plus, jacksonville has this thing about playing up to good opponents and down to the bad ones. I picked them using this logic the last 2 weeks against new england (who I usually never pick against) and K.C. and it bit me twice. I'd say the team who screwed me the most this year is a toss up between the rams, seahawks, falcons and bengals.
-
The Rams and Seahawks screwed most everyone though.
I actually tried to change my pick of the Chicago/GB game once I realized I was 1 back, but even 2 hours before gametime the picks had closed. *sigh* Too bad Tennessee finally blew their streak once I decided to join their bandwagon.
Great job pack.
