HEY GUYS!
Just like the title says, there is going to be another California meet. Shawn and I were talking and we are figuring out who would host it. We were thinking of having the meet in February because it'd be plenty of time to get a plane ticket and for those who want a little break from winter. Then its ample time to save for the next VA.
As you know this meet isn't like normal meet, there will probably be no tournaments but game play will happen. Either when the day is coming to an end or in between events planned. From the people who attended last years meet knows its a ton of fun and probably worth it.
As of right now your input would be great of what you think, if you're interested, what month/week would work out for you, or anything of that matter. Once it starts coming together and get a decent amount of people who would actually visit we can figure out where to host it. We'll just keep the topic going and hopefully we'll get a good crowd :v

It seems like 4-5 days would be best for this type of meet. That way we could visit plenty of places and not feel too rushed and therefore just relax a bit and spend time enjoying fellow Eliters' company.

Hm yah this is a tough situation. Really wanted to do another MN meet this fall but then I doubt Alex would be able to go to CA (probably not me either since i was going to agree to pay some of his flight tickets, heh), and I dont really see Bryan flying to CA either although it might be possible maybe. Although the thing is without Koch in the picture (he owes me a bunch of money and is a complete ghost now) a MN meet might be kinda meh if more people arent willing to come, so Id say theres a decent chance Ill fly to CA, maybe Alex can just go there instead and scrap a MN meet.

Depending on my work/money situation in February, it's possible I may show some interest in this. The only "problem" is that I don't drink alcohol, and if that's a big part of this type of meet, I'll probably feel a little out of place. Plus, I'd prefer not to be "that guy" who is the only one not drinking and making the whole thing awkward. Thoughts on this? Don't change your plans just for me, of course, just let me know whether I'd be out of place or not. :)
Also, I don't know the type of arrangements that are in place for something like this... are people offering a couch to sleep on, or would we have to chip in for a hotel room? That would affect the costs and influence the decision as well. I suppose a couch for 2 or 3 people isn't too hard, but if this ends up attracting 7 or 8 people then that might be more difficult.

Infil, I can't speak for the rest of the group but I don't think you would feel out of place if you don't drink. The last meet there was some consumption of alcohol but that the meet was most definitely not defined by it.
In fact, J can only really think of 2 times when we were drinking (at least while I was there). The first time was when we went to Hollywood and had a margarita at this Mexican restaurant/bar and then some people ordered alcoholic milkshakes at the burger place we went to afterward. There was no heavy consumption, no one was drunk and I couldn't even tell you if there was someone who didn't order a margarita or a milkshake, which there may well have been. The second time was the last night I spent at Adam's house. I brought a bottle of scotch and some cigars. We went outside around 2 in the morning and just sat, smoked and talked. Trent was inside asleep on the couch and I'm pretty sure someone didn't drink the scotch. Either way, no one was pressured into drinking or looked down upon for not drinking (as far as I was aware).
As far as accommodations go, there definitely isn't enough room for me to host at my place. I'd be willing to have everyone over to hang out for a bit but my wife and I are currently renting a two bedroom condo and one of the bedrooms is my home office so we wouldn't be able to house many other people comfortably. If the decision is made to stay at Adam's again, I think we were pretty close to maxed out in terms of number of sleeping spots (I think someone had to sleep on a loveseat in Adam's living room and I shared an air mattress with Shawn) so we'll obviously have to figure this out before people commit financially to this trip.
That said, I really hope you can make it out and I would not worry about the drinking aspect of the meet.

also! I'm sure we can get more sleeping space in my place if I am hosting again. I dont think it'd be a problem to get one of my roommates room.

Exactly what jonesy said! There is zero concern with alcohol being consumed. I'm a VERY light drinker, and you'd be absolutely fine not drinking. :)

I have interest but for me it's almost mandatory I'd have to meet octo in some way. (figured best case scenario for that was a sharks game but I just looked and the sharks are on the road for most of Feb bah). Depends on dates and where the hell I'm at/doing at that time as well (obv).

I'm guessing it'll be mid/later Feb. I'm pretty sure Octo lives around San Fran. It's about a 6 hr drive so I'd guess he would fly if he would come. But he'll have to see this topic first ;)

Fun times all around again!

Just finished hosting Adam and Shawn over at my place.
We took a trip across the street to the store to get some provisions at Trader Joes when Adam and Shawn noticed the interesting name of the martial arts place across from my house...

After that I grilled up some Korean Short Rib tacos and burritos, we had some alcoholic beverages and watched some football . After a little while we busted out the N64 and had played a round of MK64 3 player 150cc vs. I took down the victory 13-2-2 (I got the double 1st place finish on Royal Raceway :pimp:).
After that we went and had some amazing ice cream at a place down the street, then took a walk at the park near my house and tossed around the football and some frisbees.
All in all, it was a good day. I think Shawn and Adam have a few other pics on their phones, hopefully they'll post them when they get home.

People could probably stay at my house. My parents go away during holiday weekends once a month. I'll try to eavesdrop on their vacation dates. We probably can't be in the pool after 12 because of the neighbors, but anything in the house after hours is fine. There are four couches. I can grab some extra mattresses and blankets from friends, or you can bring a sleeping bag to use on the floor. I also know a couple places to get old mattresses for free. I will post some status updates if I find out any dates. My suggestion for food is to eat at Hometown Buffet between 3 and 6 everyday. We are trying to score 100 buy-one get-one free fundraiser tickets, but the managers want to ban us from the place. There's a 24-hour taco place within 2 miles as well.

Hanging out with Jones and Shawn we were coming up with ideas and thought it'd be good to have one really fun/crazy day. It'd be good to get a total of who is actually interested and willing. Almost like VA with % and commitment. I'm sure with a good amount of people we can get some sort of group discount. It'd just be better to get an idea so we can get the ball rolling a little more smoothly. Here are some ideas we thought of...
Scuba diving
Sky diving
Surfing/boogie board then drive a few hours north and then go snow boarding/skiing.
1 night Vegas run. Only 4 hours away and there is plenty to do. You dont have to gamble, plenty of shows to go to.
these are some of the more extreme ideas. Definitely all possible. Depending on how many we get we can figure out who will host this year. If you're interested and have some ideas please post. Or any questions for that matter...

I will commit 100% if it's between the 2 weeks before the NFL championship games and the Superbowl (don't ask, I live and die by the NFL). Those dates would be between January 24 and February 5. Late February would be bad because I'd miss Rachel's birthday, and for my own selfish reasons I'd love to get out of here in the middle of the January cold.

Well we were thinking 2nd/3rd week of Feb. Possibly presidents day weekend. It might a little easier to get extra time off as well. Nothings in stone right now so we can keep that in mind once other people start making suggestions. I'm sure it'll still be cold in Feb ;)
I dont even know when the superbowl is. We kind of threw something in the middle because of people saving for VA as well. Also enough time to save up for this too.

Travel during Superbowl week is unreal, especially if Green Bay makes it again and I have to fly out of here! (then again, it's in Indy, so a lot of folks might just drive the 8 hours).
I'll bring a huge wad of cash to spend on scuba, Vegas, and climbing, that sounds so insanely fun!

solely based off of the last few posts, early feb would be good with jimbo's wishes and clems/woll b-days. dates aren't a big deal for me, but like adam said, feb is 6 months either way from VA and gives ample time to save/plan for this (if you're interested) and VA.

So how many do you think you can hold duff? I think we'll try to avoid your choices to eat though ha.
I was doing some measuring today, and we can fit 6 mattresses in the rooms next to the 4 couches. If we wanted to block direct paths between rooms, we could lay out another 10 mattresses throughout the house. I'd probably need to go scrounge about to find more than a few mattresses from friends though. If we really needed to cram people inside, we could fit 30 if we doubled up on the mattresses.
Convenience wise, the days don't really matter as long as I convince my parents to plan a vacation at the same time. They were just gone all of last week, but I know they don't take another one of those vacations till before Christmas. I'll see if they want to take one during February.
There are some good hiking trails around here and parks, but I can't think of any other unique activities other than arcades and mini golf. I guess Jimbo has climbing gear, so you guys are free to go up the rock faces as well, but there are other rocks that you can climb without gear.

Another Idea a co worker came up with that sounded really cool and relaxed is drive about 4 hours up north and you start to get into wine country. You can then rent a limo/party bus and drive all throughout the country from vineyard to vineyard doing wine tastings for like 10 bucks. He said the scenery is amazing up there and there are cool places to stay.
I guess my only say on the date is Feb 10th we have a movie due so its going to be really crazy the week of and before.

Sure there are other people I haven't listed but if want to be apart just say something. I think Mark, Shawn and myself agreed we'd like to not put a cap on this but that means if the numbers get up there we'd probably just split the cost of renting a car. super cheap.
I'd definitely like to keep this to a 21+ for obvious reasons.
I think the next step would be just seeing what other stragglers there might be and keep it in the talks. Once people find out a little more everyone could write what dates they would actually make it or work best for them. A few dates would be best...I'll keep you updated with that in a few weeks or so.

We need to have drinking games based around GE and MK... I mean, seriously, could be a lot of fun if we came up with good games. And would save some $$ from expensive nights out/about after the initial commitments of airfare and whatnot.

1st place = 4 drinks (swallows)
2nd place = 3 drinks
3rd place = 2 drinks
4th place = 1 drink
Then we see how long it takes to reach equilibrium...

Haha, thats a funny idea. My only concern is that people might throw matches to have other people get more drunk. I wont have a problem getting 3/4th every time though!lol.
I think in 1v1 matches it would be better if the loser has to take a drink though. but in 4 player i think your idea is better.

i might be a little reserved, in all honesty, if there is a lot of consumption. i'd start to feel a little awkward. moderate consumption i'd be fine, but lots would make me a little uneasy... just throwin' that out there.

There are no new updates. If you guys want me to find out some dates that I can host, let me know.

If this is SoCal (and I think it is), I wouldn't be able to make it. I live close to SF which is a 6 hour drive from LA.
If a subset of people wanted to add a leg through San Jose or San Fransisco a day before/after the meet, I can't house you but I can entertain you! Southwest flights from LAX to SJO are very cheap, and hotels around here are cheap also.

I havent put much input into this but I found out i have 7 Weeks of training I must intend the duration of January - February so this is a no go.

Id say Im down to pretty much 0% too. I'd like to go, but I wont have any vacation time at work and Im planning a sweden meet in spring 2012 so I probably cant do both, especially if i also plan on going to virginia too. Ill be lucky if i can even make virginia next year tbh, though I will try!

I'll figure out some dates I can host in Feb. I guess. I won't do much for planning anything beyond making sure people have places to sleep and enough Hometown Buffet coupons. There are some good trails around here. They're closed at night, but that doesn't mean you can't use them. Looks like we'll have 5-10 if people gain and lose interest at a constant rate for the next two months.

This meet is looking fairly small atm, but we haven't really had any chitter-chatter so let's see if this topic can flare back up again.
Adam-if it is a small group again, it would make logistics easy as far as how we'd all get from place A to place B. I'd say we really need people that are going to make it for sure go ahead and post and we can all throw in what dates allow for maximum time together. I'd like to know what dates people are more comfortable with sooner rather than later (in the next week or two) so that I can request the time off from work. I've no problem maybe driving up to Jonesy's house (as long as he's cool with that) and riding up with him (and back to his house after the meet as well). I could get a ride up from my wife and she'd pick me up when we get back to his house after the meet.
Money for me is fairly limited, but I wouldn't crap out on something fun and cool if the rest o the gang wanted to do it (so far as it's legal)
So far it sounds like Duff, Matis, Jones and myself are all in. Let's start verifying this and other stuff as well.
Also, for those who might be flying in, check to see if flying in to San Diego would save you any money. I'd be more than willing to come snatch you up from the airport. Plus then you could see my little military house, lol. :P

Yeah it definitely seems small, I know Wiff is still very interested though. I doesn't really seem like anyone else from out of state would be coming besides him. People seem a lot more busy this year.
I have a movie due feb/march/april. So i'll be pretty busy getting it done. I just think hosting would be a little difficult in my situation right now. Also just going through a roommate situation where people might be coming and going soon.
If its just one person flying in from out of state it might be good to just postpone the meet till a later date so we can get more people going. It just feels like there isn't much interest at the moment, which is fine because I'd rather get a good group and have more fun like last time.
If some people are really interested, they have to speak up.

I'm still interested in going. If it's held sometime in February, I'd like to get it to coincide with some of my potential job interviews I'll have in LA and SF (I realize SF is nowhere near LA, heh). I'll be contacting them on Monday to see what's up, since they've been bogged down with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years stuff.
Will look into an SD flight. Should be comparable airfare whether it's SD or LAX.
