Title: GE Speedrun "Best Of" Montage? (Abandoned 2004)

One of the last projects I was working on during my days active on the-elite.net was a video montage of awesome moments from hundreds of videos, intended to be a sort of tribute and promotional video for the site. I spent a ton of time on the effort, going through videos and selecting choice moments - I created several folders for the type of video highlight and renamed the videos to denote what the highlight was to crop out for the final video.

I wondered, would anyone be interested to make something like this? What if we ran a fundraiser to get together a little bit of $$ for the video producer?

I'd do my best to shop it around other gaming sites and rake in more acclaim for the community, overall. The type of video I'm imagining would be a rapid cycling of the types of highlights that even non-GE people could appreciate to some extent. I figure a length of around 5 minutes would be enough to get in a lot without being too long. I think "bloopers" would be fun to splice in a few spots, and also some glitches or Gameshark novelties to baffle viewers (e.g. the citadel).

Anyway, if anyone's interested I'd love to share some of the work/notes/videos/strategy I had compiled before abandoning the effort. I don't have the time, energy, awareness of current strat subtlety, knowledge of recent and well-known videos, etc, but I'd be interested to get involved in the video's direction.

Just figured I'd put it out there.

And yes, that screen shot shows some awesomely old/not-good videos, but it was shared just to demonstrate my approach at the time.

Post by: 1.1in1997 on October 12, 2011, 03:16:08 pm: I would say a WR database for the WR's (at the time) and the video of the player would be cool (the first person at the time to get that WR at that given time) all the way up to current date - Then the player to beat that WR (first tie's dont get acknowledgement) and so on and so on - That could take some serious time though -

Lets say:

Wes Mckinney [ video link or youtube video ] 6/7/98 Dam Agent :56
Wouter Jansen [ video link ^^ ] 10/17/01 Dam Agent :55
Illari P [ ^^ ] 3/2/02 Dam Agent :54

and so on for every level and difficulty per archive purposes - Really somewhat pointless I guess but a good historical back round of who broke what when / date / how much time beaten

It's not that long.. but the song length kinda limited me. But I could maybe make a longer one if I find a better song and have more time, I enjoy making these type of vids. :P

Post by: Smit on April 25, 2012, 04:03:39 pm: I thought about doing something like this as well, but it is too much of a hassle collecting all the material (usually having to download vids from youtube etc, very tedious). We could use a promotional video for the website :)
