Mr. Weatherton just shared this with me:
http://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/gc_to_n64_adapter/index.php?category=N64 (http://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/gc_to_n64_adapter/index.php?category=N64)
We wondered about the automatic control mapping that was embedded, in particular, how the c-stick would serve in place of the c buttons.
Andrew then raised questions about the GC arcade controller. He followed with something that could have an interesting use in 2-controller control settings:

Not anything that could be used for legit times, but interesting to contemplate... Apologies if this is a repost.

Hmm, pretty cool. Did either of you actually pick one up?

clark's brain is gonna explode when he learns you can play 64 games on the wii and use it's gc like controller.

Is there any lag? I tried that with a PS2-SNES adapter once, but the lag was insufferable, possibly due to the workmanship.

Hey guys, I finally converted over my profile for these boards (with my sweet .007 posts per day since 2002). So, now I can post some more details about this.
1. I got one of these for Christmas (though I cannot use it until my in-laws get to town this weekend).
2. Raphnet products have been very simple circuits that should not introduce any delay in the connection (I'll confirm this when I get a chance).
3. After some failed attempts with some replacement joysticks, I'm happy to finally be able to try the various GameCube controllers (the site confirms that the wavebird works, which is just awesome).
4. The site confirms that the mapping is 100% customizable. You can literally map any button to any other button. The one question I have is whether I will be able to map the joystick to the D-pad, not at the GameCube D-pad is any good, but on Kart 64, it would be interesting to try driving with a d-pad (possibly for quicker mini-turbos).
For reference, a significant amount of detail about this adapter is available at: http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/gc_to_n64/index_en.php#2 (http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/gc_to_n64/index_en.php#2)
Can anyone find a decent list of GameCube controllers? I'm curious what all is out there.

Do you think you could MT faster with a pad? I don't much like the feel of MKDS, so I don't know how I'd like that.
Do you mean a list of types of gamecube controllers?
-
Nathan, I do think I could MT faster with the pad, it requires less movement. Obviously, precision could be a problem though.
Regarding controller types, yeah, I'm just trying to see if there are any really unique controller types. I found a picture of nearly every color official controller which is not what I'm talking about. Though that picture did have a very unique controller in the middle: http://s9.zetaboards.com/Nintendo_64_Forever/topic/7261348/1/ (http://s9.zetaboards.com/Nintendo_64_Forever/topic/7261348/1/) (notice the keyboard?). I don't think the keyboard controller would be addressable through this adapter, but it's still pretty cool to think of WASD Goldeneye (I guess we could easily set that up on an emulator using a keyboard though, to test it).
