Some of you may know me from back in 2000 or so, I was the user "Pdiddylight" in the Archived Perfect Dark Elite. Go to the last page and work forward and you'd see topics / responses from me. I completed the first summer around PD's release and never really went back afterwards. NGamer and others can vouch for me.
Anyways, I was wondering if any of you guys collect video games nowadays? I made the transition and collecting is just as much fun as the gaming now. And sealed copies of Perfect Dark are pretty cheap in comparison to other games, so it's the perfect game to collect. Looks like the elite is strong and well and some of the WRs are insane nowadays.
And just as proof, this was my 0:52 on G5 Building Agent back when it meant something and we used to take proofs with a photo. Way before you guys would simply mimic a youtube video ;) And look at that TV!

there's a big topic on 64 controllers recently

Always good to see blasts from the past.
How big is your collection currently?
What is the prize of your collection?
-
I collect games that I play, mostly japanese snes and some nes/n64. Got about 300-400 games almost no bad ones (only will buy a game if ill play it through and enjoy it) quality>quantity
-
Collect pratically all Rareware titles since 1994. Other stuff are the greats titles I liked on Nintendo since NES (All Zelda, Mario etc). Of course every game in their respective box+manual. doesn't matter how much it cost all I want is the best quality. May be good to have some pics of your collections.
Here are some of mine:

Been collecting about 3.5 years now. I doubt anyone here appreciates sealed games like that, but you guys would maybe like this:
(https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi981.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fae299%2Fjonebone%2F103_8844.jpg&hash=18ca4e9a7f99d72fce39b9b90cafa0898f371b57)
85+ = Near Mint, almost perfect, probably very slight flaw
90 = Mint to the naked eye
95 = Ridiculously Mint
100 = 1 in 1,000 type of Mint. You could buy every single sealed game in a video store and still not get a 100.

LOL omg wtf is that, I feel so weak with my collection compared to you. That's pretty crazy that you go all those games in 3.5 years. Can you say how much you spend in it?
-
Sweet collections :D
I have a huge lot, though I haven't got a good viewport of it atm.
I have a database online at http://www.activigor.com/games/index.php (http://www.activigor.com/games/index.php)
Mostly looking for all complete N64 NTSC-J, missing 34 (have 3 of those cart only)

Hey man, everyone starts somewhere. I got into it as a reseller hoping to make extra money for a house. Somewhere along the lines I became a collector. Three years later I think I'm still positive in the long run. So it hasn't cost me a dime, just a ton of dedication and having a desk job with free time, haha.
I have all 296 N64 NTSC USA Games Complete in their original boxes and just recently switched over to sealed. Funny you mention Rareware, it's my #1 goal this year to get every N64 Rareware title sealed and in Gold Level shape (VGA 85+ or higher). So we have the same tastes :)

That's a pretty cool collection, man. I don't know what you mean by collect though. I buy games to play them. My wrestlers, for example, I don't play with. I display them. I see that as collecting.

Yeah, but I'm a little like Alec006, I didn't want games that I didn't like/don't play with, so I'm pratically done with my "collection" until some new games comes out. Of course I have some other to buy/replace but I'm maybe about 80% of what I want.
That's pretty interesting, so your work was to only sell/buy games? And you lived from that?
Sorry about the noob question, but what do you mean by "Gold Level shape (VGA 85+ or higher)"

Yeah, everyone starts the same way, only buy games that you play. Some people stay as gamers or some become gamer / collectors as well.
Well I had a normal 8-4 job with a good salary, and just do some game hunting in my spare time. But the entire collection has been built for "free", just time invested.
By Gold Level, there's a company, VGA ( http://www.vggrader.com/grading_scales.aspx (http://www.vggrader.com/grading_scales.aspx) ) who grades / authenticates factory sealed games as legit. With this hobby gaining steam, it is important to have this service to eliminate counterfeits. Gold Level is basically Mint to collectors.
But yeah, maybe some of you are future collectors who just haven't recognized it yet :)
-
Yeah, maybe, who know.
Thanks for telling you cleared all my questions :)
-
Yeah i frequent na sometimes and I know you from their but I just collect carts to play and own. Not really into cib/full sets or anything like that, but you have a very nice collection.
-
Holy mother of god, those pictures are INSANE! Surely that collection could near $10K someday!
I just finished buying up every N64/GameCube/Wii Mario game, all with original boxes and books so I'm pretty happy about that. Doing that for SNES/NES games would be far too expensive, so I will respectfully decline that adventure :)
My best controller is my DK64 N64 controller, or my golden Wii CLASSIC controller exclusive to the Goldeneye release.

Haha, your estimate is a bit off but thank you for the bump. A collector sold his entire N64 CIB collection over last summer, each title listed individually at 0.99 starting bid, and he got around $8.5k or so. But he did ship internationally and I'm sure that helped. It's hard to try and put a value on a collection but I'd guess closer to $25k than anything. My Zelda OOT 85+ is about $1.5k alone and the most expensive item I own so far.
DK Controller isn't too shabby though, I still need one myself. About $40 if worn, probably $60 or higher if the joystick is Tight and the surface is Minty.

A sealed Zelda goes for $1.5K? I assume that's the Gold cartridge. I remember when stores were unloading Majora's Mask for $30 or so. I sometimes imagine going back in time to buy loads of sealed games, but I wonder how many sealed copies in existence it takes to dilute the market. I used to collect NES games from 2000-2001. I bought a few on eBay during that time, but I picked most up for about $3 at the local movie rental places. I was really too late as PS2 games were beginning to surface, but I still managed to snag 200 titles. I was on a limited budget at the time, spending what I got in allowance as I didn't understand the need for a disposable income. I didn't do much research into the value, but I probably bought 90% of the stock from the two video stores. It's funny that I drove down every main street in a 10-mile radius but the two stores were within 2 miles. There was one store that still rented NES games up till 2003. I would pop in every few months to ask if they were ever gonna sell their games(they had titles like Contra and Gradius CIB), and then they were gone one day.
I started reselling some of the games for a few weeks and met some shady mofos on eBay selling counterfeit prototypes. The best find I ever had was a $400 copy of Chubby Cherub CIB during a 40-mile bike ride to pick up a wireless Starburst Guitar Hero guitar for PS2, which I ended up dumping in the garbage anyway because it broke down after a few hours. Another time, I picked up an SNES with about 40 games for $150, including great RPGs and great games in general, but they were all loose carts. I got out of collecting and selling video games when I started selling used Wiis and games. I still got about 100 PS2 & Wii games that I need to sell one day. I can't see any Wii games becoming collectors' items.
I'm at the point where I don't value material goods and collections. I'd be pissed if my games were stolen, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. They don't do anything. They just sit there collecting dust. There are so many great NES/SNES hacks out there that I still need to play.
