Whoa now it's the yearly topic where wheat blasts the selection committee and then everyone heads to ESPN!

you rang sire? I was actually defending the committee a bit this year because it isn't bad overall until I heard Oral Roberts was first team out and nevada almost made the tournament. That's when I went total WTF and my tune changed.
IONA was a terrible inclusion into the field; but there really isn't anyone who got screwed so w/e.
At least that game should be fun to watch as they play zero defense. I wouldn't have cared at all if they had just said we included Iona because we wanted a non shitty viewing playin game.
edit--count me IN if we're doing the auction again

After some discussion in Chat, we'll once again be hosting a
March Madness Team Draft
...this Wednesday night in the chatroom! Here's this year's sheet with all the info:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvhZ2lt476FmdGh3VEkyNGhLcXNkdGQ3YTNWXzRNd3c
But basically it's just a matter of there are 10 of us picking the 64 teams, each with $100 to spend in an auction. You can pick as many teams as you can afford (better teams will of course be more expensive), and whoever drafts the group of teams that perform the best wins.
Last year's managers have first rights to the slots, but post here if you'd like to be an alternate in case people can't make it!
Returning Managers
Ngamer
Thingy
QB
wheat
Shadow
Gabby
Third
Come
Youse
---
octo
Alternates:
Shep
Will keep this list updated.
EDIT - Shooting for a start time of 9:30 Eastern.
-
COME as u r337 (23:47:38): what time is this ncaa tournament draft thing?
COME as u r337 (23:47:56): i'd like to play and i'd like my team name to be Myrtle Beach Mermen
Time is fine for me, but any later would be horrible so keep it at this time or go a little earlier even.
-
I'll probably auction it up.
And nobody, I repeat, NOBODY is gonna outbid me for my Dragons.
-
Remember, brackets lock at noon tomorrow (Eastern time). So don't delay much longer!
-
I have an EXCELLENT bracket this year.
Watch out!
-
Go ahead and draft without me, I don't have AIM! I'll win the bracket contest instead.
-
I should do awful this year. I looked at some stats but basically just did what I wanted to regardless. We'll see how it pans out. I made some foolhardy picks!
-
Syracuse was the better team, but I thought that if it was ever time to bet against a #1 seed, now was the time with me living nearby UNCA at one time in my life. I went to school a few miles from UNCA.

and quite possibly the biggest upset in the first round ever just happened. FU Missouri. (norfolk was a bigger underdog than asheville was)
LOL DUKE
Nearly every year this tourn shows itself as the greatest 2 days of sports.
-
The Missouri loss was pretty crazy. I never even considered it for a second. Duke also surprised me. I didn't really trust them over the long haul, but I thought the first round was a gimme. The only reason I picked Asheville is because I knew Syracuse was missing their big man, and I am biased towards nearby teams. It almost worked out for me!
At least I still have 3 of my 4 Final Four teams remaining. As long as NC State and UNC win tomorrow, I'll be happy. I really want to see them meet each other for a showdown. I wasn't able to watch most of the games so far which has sucked. I've been really busy and was also under the weather. I finally got to watch a lot today and should be able to watch tomorrow as well.

for our auction contest I believe these are the winning scenarios
wheat wins with a florida win over lville
alec wins with a lville title and kentucky beats baylor
gabby wins with a syracuse title and lville beats florida
anything else cutler wins
-
I'm no math major, but I believe Ngamer wins with a Baylor Championship.
-
I can't do elementary math, because Ngamer still wouldn't have won with a Baylor Championship.
fyp
Just between cyber and alec now. Alec spent a ton of $ on Duke; so his odds of winning were probably <1% when Duke lost and would be an incredible comeback victory.
-
Well either Louisville or Kentucky is going to the title game.
-
Sure do hope Kentucky wins, this has been a super annoying tournament. The only thing that would be worse than the KU/OSU game would've been a KU/Duke championship. Can't believe Louisville is in the final four either.
Go Wildcats!
-
Neither do I. What are the situations that I win? If Kentucky wins?
I can't believe that I possibly could win. I really expected absolutely nothing out of this tournament. I didn't even want to sign up. I did.
Really had no intention of getting Louisville. I was "stuck" with them after I tried to up the bidding for them.
Then the whole Duke thing. I was lucky enough to be able to get them. It did me no good and that made things bad.
I tried to be as conservative with the bidding as I could be. I wanted Duke and I wanted Kentucky. So then I have like 43 coins left but a couple have some more. So I'm hoping I can luck out so I have the most coins and I'll lock into Kentucky. That happened and I paid 35 for Kentucky. I would say the 35 was well spent.
I had a feeling Kentucky would make it this far. Possibly Duke. No way for Louisville. I figured I wasted 12 coins and what a bargain that was.
Whatever happens, happens. Whether Cyber wins, I win or anybody else, I have had fun doing this. This was awesome. Good luck to you people and that the thought that I would be even in it this close after all of this was quite unthinkable.
It should be fun to watch.
-
You only win if Louisville wins.
-
Well Cutler wins. Congratulations to him. I never pictured that I almost could have made it to the end.

Congrats to Goose, our 2012 March Madness Champion! Complete results:
(https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.upload.speedrunwiki.com%2Fimages%2Fsports%2F2012EliteMadnessResults.png&hash=9971d8481031ec345320e24892fea01cdfcdfbad)
As you can see, we lucked out with the final result- had Kansas completed that comeback, the Elite would have been beaten by a girl yet again (this mysterious "PadfootJen" also took first place in our NFL pool this past season), and she'd have finished in the 99.9 percentile to boot. Luckily for Goose, Kentucky held out and his audaciously titled "WIN LOCK" bracket ended up doing just that.
Congrats are also in order for Cyber, who just barely held off Alec and wheat to win the 2012 Madness Auction. Full results:

Amazingly, Cyber took first place without advancing a single team past the Sweet 16! If only Duke hadn't been the biggest disappointment in tournament history, Alec could have snuck past him on the final day. Now wouldn't that have been something...
-
Congrats to 19 people including myself for demolishing Ngamer's bracket.
-
Congrats to Matt and Jimbo for getting 0 points after the Sweet 16.
-
To finish second was something I never thought was possible. Three more points and I would've been champ but what a thrill it was. Congratulations again Cutler.
