So Mark Jones and I were talking a few days ago about exactly can be defined as a "prestigious" rank one can attain in our respective games. I would always poke fun at the fact that Kart players considered the top 100 a "good place to be", whereas the top 100 in Goldeneye is a joke (I'm well aware Kart has over 3x the players). I guess I consider the top 20 in GE to be where a "casual" player becomes a "good" player.
There's an interesting page on the Kart 64 site that shows what % of the WR you have. The top 100 has just above 97% of the WR, which is insane to me. I was curious to see how many GE players have 97% of the WRs, based on total time. The answer is...
FIVE! (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.tumblr.com%2Ftumblr_m91258rYhJ1qdmpf5.gif&hash=6409d4c1da41d89def829f68636774809f531870)
Only Clemens, Ace, Marc, Henning, and Boss have that kind of PR percentage. This probably is due to the insane luck factor that GE has over MK64. Clemens and Jongerius (Kart's champ) are similar in their average finish on each level and overall dominating performance of the game. Why do YOU think that Kart has almost 100 more players within that % range than GE does? Similarly, the top 20 in overall time is equal to the 305th ranked Kart 64 player in % (just above 93% of the WR).
We didn't bother doing any math on PD, but I can imagine that's even more of a joke than GE already is. Either GE only has 5 insanely dedicated players, or Kart 64 has an astoundingly high number of dedicated players. I'm not sure which.

GE is about trying to gain a second
Kart is about trying to gain a tenth of a second or even hundredths and the times are less overall than GE.
Kart will have a closer % because the times are closer period. (ie 2 seconds behind is usually way behind where it might not be points wise in GE)
edit--also GE has 20x3 where kart is 16x2 60 vs 32 is going to lead to a bigger gap than the 32 is.
That said, though the ranks are better than they used to be there's still plenty of GE'rs with pretty bad times wrt to their ranks where you really don't have that so much in kart.

I have no clue what these stats mean/say. http://www.mariokart64.com/mk64/prwr.cgi (http://www.mariokart64.com/mk64/prwr.cgi)

I think its just their TT as a % of the MK64 TT Wouter.
Yeah Wheat summed it up. Plus way more luck / ways to mess up in GE, which is good cos we need that to make times harder and spread out the competition since we don't have decimals.
If you want to see what the elite ranks would look like without luck and decimals see Archives Agent.

I would guess 100th on MK64 is similar skill level to 20th-30th in GE (having a complete set of times in both games).

That would make Jimbo a top player :-o
