First of all - I think I might introduce myself. Some of you may already know me from me trolling around the GE streams - however that's obviously not all of you. I have been a gamer for a long time now - and played GE first when I was about 7. I discovered GE speedrunning a long time ago - but only go attracted to it through the streams of recent - primarily Goose and Marc. (Others of course as well :) ) I began to run the game on emulator - with decent results. My current little project is full game Agent runs - with my current PR being 26:46. Obviously though - being an emulator scumbag - I won't be submitting any times as official or anything like it. :smokin: (I have GE on N64 - but I need to invest in a TV to play it on! My current TV is a plasma - and that'll burn in! :( )
Anyway - Goose asked me last night while I was streaming to share the information regarding my emulation setup - so here I am. Below will be everything you need to begin emulation yourself.
First of all - I strongly advise that you don't use keyboard and mouse. It works for sure - but is nowhere near as effective as using a gamepad of some kind. I took a couple of snapshots of my gamepad - found below.

This is a 3rd party PS3 style controller. Obviously - it is not necessary to have a gamepad - but it helps for sure. For GE control style 1.3 - I set up my controls as such: (Greatest Paint job ever)

Now - evidently - you will now need an emulator itself. A disclaimer would be that different emulators work better for different people. Graphics cards - CPUs all affect different performance. However - there are a couple of "big" emulators that are used for GE as far as I could tell.
1964 Ultrafast (http://www.retrocopy.com/forumthread/414-1/1964-ultrafast---60fps-n64-emulator.aspx) (What I use and will be going into more detail about)
Project 64 (http://www.pj64-emu.com/downloads/project64/binaries/)
Mupen 64 (http://mupen64.emulation64.com/down.htm)
After you've downloaded it and all - you need the ROM itself. Obviously you are partial to what version you want - so just google "Goldeneye 64 ROM X" (X representing whichever version you want)
Plugins are the next question - I use the following - and most are either packaged with 1964 Ultrafast or can be easily googled. Naturally - different plugins work better for different people.

Once everything is set up - input is set up - the key to this is the "Overclock" feature in built into the emulator. The problem with emulators is that you cannot emulate a N64 perfectly. You will either have copious amounts of lag or none at all - I personally opt for none at all. :) I suggest you set the Overclock feature to "200MhZ - 2x" as any more causes there to be a "smooth lag" - slowing the game down - but retaining a smooth running.
Once all this is done - you should be ready to go. You should notice when you launch the game - the following glitch in the graphics: (Look at the PP7 - the back and the "gap" between the gun and silencer):

I like to keep this there as a kind of sign. Like red tips on fake guns - this is a fake. If you wish to fix it - well - I dunno how! But I like it there...
Enjoy,

Thanks for posting this stuff Softman. It's a good thread to have. I will probably download ultrafast1964 sometime in the near future.
I don't know why more eliters don't use emulators to test strats or practice tough areas. It's virtually universal among speedrunners of other games.
Cool stuff, I hope this helps some of us in the future.
Welcome to the elite boards. Have fun, don't get too addicted :)

Well, when I play on the emulator, I play with my real controllers, the controller stick sucks too much but I think you need to change the controller sensibility.
This is the adapter that I use to play with my controlers:

The adapter works to 2 controlers, so if you have 2 adapters you can play with more 3 friends

Welcome to the-elite, Softman!
I use emulation mostly for online gameplay on Mupen64++ Beta, and I use 1964_1.1 for ROM hacks because they lag on Mupen for me.
Thanks for the 1964 Ultrafast link! This version is finally compatible with Jabo's DirectD8 input 1.6
I've played on keyboard and mouse for years until now.
That N64 adapter came in the mail last saturday, I didn't test some online session with it.
Zazken, I've set it on 66% range and wasn't too sensitive now.
For bad analogs you can set it higher :)
