Quite simply, who's the best at Goldeneye?
Poll will last for 7 days followed by results, user won't be allowed to change vote.
-
Simple, my vote goes to Marc Rutzou
Most untied world records.
World record 100%
World record 00Agent.
-
:kappa:
-
wheres goose?
this is a fucking travesty
-
I agree
This poll needs to include;
- Goose
- Luke Szklarz
- Bruce Waliz
- Nathan Keeper
- TrevHasRCP90
- Nolan Baucom
- Jim Barrett
-
lol topic
-
Dumb topic.
-
Heh goose and I were talking about maybe doing a power rankings in his stream the other day. That would be more fun to do than a simple "who's the best at GE" poll.
-
maybe doing a power rankings
Fact > Opinion
I'd like to see that done
-
I'm not sure how you'd do a power rankings and have it be "fact." It seems all opinion to me.
Maybe something like points gained as an inverse percentange of points you already have, but even that seems bad because a top player getting untieds and 0 points wouldn't have any numbers there. I don't think there's any formula for it. It's just opinion.
-
My thoughts were something along the lines of time gained over time played. Sure, impossible to be true fact, but more like extremely educated group opinion.
-
Wat about de MVP ranks :nesquik:?
-
:nesquik: :nesquik: :nesquik:
-
I'm arguably the greatest player ever.
-
A more interesting poll would be "who is the worst..."
-
I wake up in the morning and i see shit exploding, i just talk too much :kappa:
-
I think perhaps a more appropriate poll would also include Bosshardt: arguably the most dominating player the-elite has ever seen. Wouter should be there too. He's not playing at the top of the rankings today but there's no denying his past domination and his amazing history of WRs and untieds (almost double that of anyone else).
But any poll would be subject to opinion. Henning has made some pretty sweet contributions, Cliff had some insane times, it depends on how much time they put into it and what era they were active in yada yada. So yeah, this is dumb.
Any of you remember Sterling? He was on fire in his day too.
-
Clemens got 3 votes, from himself, orumovsociety, his mom :kappa:

The poll question is "Who is the best".
Mind the present tense.
-
Er... then why do you need a poll? Clearly the one on top is the best. Mind the present tense :P
-
^ Rank is not a perfect measure for skill, there are just too many stages. Marc was like rank 15 not too long ago, but still clearly top 3 skillwise at the same time.
Also the reigning troika could probably beat 50+ of Sterlings PRs in about 3 hours, so including him in such a poll would be really ":kappa:"
-
*sigh* but that's my point. Can you honestly say Bosshardt isn't (or couldn't be) playing top-3? Or Henning?
Best per hours played? Best in potential? Raw skill? Currently active? It's nonsensical.
There's been a HUGE amount of change over the years, more than you probably realize if you really just joined in 2011. If Sterling were playing today, would he be in the top three? I don't know, but it's unfair to judge him by today's standards when most of the strats hadn't been invented yet.
-
no one should be taking this seriously, it's a troll..
-
Serious lists now
Skills list
1a Champ
1b Ace
3 Marc
A more important question is who is the greatest? (like we do in sports)
Where things like "skills" and "style" become far less relevent, most important is what you did and when you did it, and then things like peak ranking, longevity and dominance. So my greatest GE players list is:
boss
woot
clem
ace
marc
illu
randy
sterling
karl
goose
The ones grouped together can be moved around.
Let me know what you think
-
I'd say that looks fairly reasonable, though I'd move Ace up to the next group and think that Zwartjes might deserve some mention. Definitely agree with Karl and Randy being choices. Wasn't Randy the first dual champ?
-
The rankings are mostly about who is the fastest.
There's also different leagues and multiplayer, many of the other leagues have also ended being about speed though.
I'm more on the artistic side.
Speed is amazing though.
-
Marc and I were discussing last night how Illu's runs are so ROUND. He just plays like water flowing through a circle. There is no sharpness or bluntness. He just flows through the levels smoothly. This is why he's good at Jungle because that level requires insane smoothness. And this is why he's bad at Silo since it requires a lot of sharp bluntness.
But if you want to get serious, I'd say Marc seems a level ahead of Illu in career. But then again if we are simply talking about career WRs, career untieds and peak ranking, then Illu, Marc and myself are all in the same boat, with Sterling and Randy well ahead. Karl I guess would fit in the IPMRRW bank.
http://quentin.meunier.free.fr/gewrs/totaltally.php?year=2013&month=01&day=30&pub=0
Marc and I have the EXACT same WR statistics right now lol. Illu is actually quite ahead.
That top 12 are definitely the significant players in elite history.
-
LOL yea illu has a funny playing style. Round is a good way to explain it and he's relaxed as fuck, looks like he's sleeping while he plays. No tight turns, just touches that stick gently. On control after the mines he makes the slowest turn possible, doesn't give a fuck about a tight turn, his heartbeat is probably 25/min when he plays. :kappa:
-
I think Wouter should be in the top tier of all time great GE players. He has set the most WRs ever, cut the most time ever (if you don't count cuts before 2000). That has to have a spot at the top. And he did most of that with PAL and 1.1.
-
I've reported several of Bruce's more offensive posts and nothing has been done. I believe the reports go to Scott Abbey aka TheFlash aka Thingy and from there he does something (or not) (or delegates Thiradell to deal with it.)
This is the same moderation crew who, when I last reported a post (being a non PR in the PR topic) decided that instead of simply moving the post, it would be easier for them to merge the topics so that they wouldn't have to do any more work. They didn't care about the uproar this cause within the elite because they don't care about the elite.
So clearly we need new moderators. Axel Andersson is still a GE mod and he hasn't signed into his account since mid 2011. This is pathetic.
-
Also, back on topic, this image macro sums this up well
(https://i.imgur.com/PrZFN4y.jpg)
The laborers are the ones who play with their hands only. They just repeat what they see and even though they may achieve a good ranking, they never really accomplish something. They are boring to watch. They are the garbagemen and janitors of speedrunning. They just work aimlessly and get ok times. These are the guys like Afan, Axel Z, Henning, etc.
The crafstmen are actually the fastest players. They are skilled with their minds as well as their hands. As a result, they are capable of great feats. These are the players like Ace, Boss and Clemens. They can come up with small .2 timesavers and are very consistent. They create beautiful pieces of WORK. They are the architects and builders of speedrunning.
And then there are the artists. They sometimes don't get times as fast as the craftsmen because they follow their heart, and we all know hearts can lead us astray. But they follow their hearts and as a result they create beautiful pieces of ART. These are the players like Illu, Marc and myself, who don't always care about points and WRs and ranks. They make you FEEL tangible emotion when you watch them play. They play what they believe is the TRUTH. They play what they LOVE. Some of these masterpieces include Streets Agent 1:12, and the original videos of Silo SA 1:10 or Aztec 00A 1:47.
So those are the three kinds of speedrunners. Which do you value more? That is all the question posed in this thread asks.
-
They are the garbagemen and janitors of speedrunning.
Lol wtf
-
Contrary to popular belief, my combination of being a top 3 player for a year and an obsessively-good multiplayer likely put me at the #1 overall spot back in the mid 2000s. I would have murdered Wouter/Boss back then with their multi skill (Boss admitted he was never great). Adam/Greg/Eddie weren't good until like 2009 as well. Not sure on Patrik, but he was never high-ranked in solo.
You can't seriously include Randy, Sterling, and Karl and not expect me to FLIP MY SHIT HERE.
-
How come you can't seriously include me? I'm like one of the best multi's ever. Even though I wasn't able to prove it before, I did real well at VA with it being my first time ever playing guys from US. I think I single handledly raised the skill level of everyone there.
-
If the list includes you, it shouldn't exclude me, that's all I was saying broseph. You've always been a boss to me.
btw I get all the post reports in my e-mail as well Ryan, but I'm always at work! I just demolished as many of Bruce's posts that I could and I'm trying to get an admin to perma-ban him, whoever the hell he is.
-
Deleting his posts was the wrong call. They are significant for the history of this event in the elite. Banning him would be OK.
-
I'm pretty sure the reason I never got to number 1 was because my mum banned me from using the 64. Also, I was really scared of levels where you can die. I still fear dieing :( makes it hard to play some harder levels. FUCK.
-
Been interesting so far, my vote went to Ace. I think the best indicator is how fast he gets wr's, a bit similar to MJ in mk64 in that sense. We all know how much Marc plays, literally 24/7, imagine if Ace played as much? Dude got like 8 untieds in under a month. Clem on the other hand all I've seen him do is play Control agent for the last few months and not get out the first room most the time. It's a no brainer really, Ace has the most current abilty, the most potential, and he's the most consistent. Also I don't buy into this praising old-skool legends business just for the sake of it, so they don't feel left out, sure they used to be good and some still are, but we're in 2013 now.

It's not about praising old school legends, I'd say it's about respecting who was the best AT THEIR PRIME.
Valid opinion is valid
i'm just a marc fanboy
-
I'm not an old-skool legend though. I'm still a legitimate legend.

PD legend for sure

Topics like this are a good example as to why the elite has always, and always will be, a negative community. We should just be supporting eachother and playing the game and having a fun time beating WRs (even though most of the time we're raging ) , but instead theres always talks about who is the best, most consistent, most liked, etc etc. Its topics like this and things like the summer contest that make this place a pretty lame community overall.

QFT
Although it wasn't like this was a longstanding or integral member of the elite. No offense OP - but this is a horrible topic.
EDIT: The "Ask any Goldeneye Question Here" thread is a good counter to the argument though. Almost every question gets answered to a high standard.

Sums up this shit pretty well.

The summer contest is a travesty. It's 100% Jon Barber who is responsible for it. He's a socially inept, pathetic, loser who only does it so other people can feel bullied like he surely did his entire childhood. The biggest joke is that Jon doesn't even put himself in the contest with the farce of a cover that he thinks he'd win easily and it'd be unfair. Lol...
The best communities and social groups are those where all members work together to achieve something great. Most top players are like this actually. We all help each other out with strats and little things even though we know someone might break our WR or we might get passed. Then you have idiots like Trent who hoards fake strats and causes problems by a direct matter of trying to institute dog eat dog competition. You also have idiots like SpiderWaffle who try to compare players with stupid things like MVP rankings.
The top players don't care who is best. We all know what we are capable of, what we are good at and what we are bad at. The top players try to work together to lower the overall time and mostly just have fun. The out of touch spectators are the ones who are the root of all these problems, as evidenced by the OP of this thread being one of those people.
-
funny topic though

Good thing that you show such a supportive and positive attitude and didn't label your competitors heart- and mindless point-whoring copycats above.
-
I said "top players" :kappa:
-
I'll miss Bruche. He was my favorite troll.
On a on-topic-note, I was doing some quick calculations for Marc and I believe if he were to get all of his non-first place times up to third, he'd be right around where Clemens is.
Seems like the levels he's been avoiding have something to do with grenades...
Runway 00
Bunker 1 00
Surface 2 SA
Cradle SA
Cradle 00
Inkosi for champ 2013! ;)

I'm sick of this Goose. Knock it off. Jon spent more time building up the-elite than anyone appreciates. From histories to hosting. He might not be active anymore but show some respect.
-
Sniper Patrol is either Tyler, Jon Bearder, or Scott Abey.
-
I have the feeling he have something to do with Bruce Waliz
I miss Bruce though :(
-
I actually agree. Bruce/Sniper is one of those three. Nothing else makes sense. Outside chance its BRIO.
-
Dont knock Bruce Waliz, he was good in Gay Hard and Lameaggedon.
-
I think Bruche/Sniper was Marc trying to get more votes for Jimbo in his "Worst Player" poll :D
-
I asked a forum admin about this the other day and was told that bruce waliz shared BRIO's ip address which is why I didn't delete his posts in GC. I haven't asked about Sniper Patrol, though.
Or maybe everyone here is just trolling and implicitly knew it was BRIO. In which case, carry on...
-
Sad thing he got banned tho. The hheat jost sttarte,d.
-
A more serious problem is that Bruce Waliz is living in your neighborhood and stealing your wifi. You gotta watch your back 50.
