Title: Probably not worth $3,000, but maybe some day...
Post by: Jimbo on February 17, 2013, 10:47:37 pm
There's no question in my mind I will own one of these machines someday, but I need more room (likely in my next house). I'm secretly a huge pinball fan, and after my buddy texted me a picture of this machine down at his college in southern Wisconsin, I investigated some more...

Notice the launcher!

Yes, this machine is made by SEGA!

That's the Surface 1 radar that's magnetized right there, so cool.

I love those bumpers sooo much.

The side of that is pretty neat, also showing off SEGA.

Here is a video of the machine (restored) being played. The sounds are ridiculously nostalgic :)

The machines are about $3000 fully restored, but I think I can swing a deal for about $1800 if I try hard enough since that's the mean value of pinball machine dating back to that era. Admit it, you'd spend a quarter at my house to play this ;)

yeah pinball machines generally had parts that failed by now, so restoration costs $ and is a pain (but the new stuff they put in is good for awhile at least)

This model isn't highly rated and apparently the magnets blow so buyer beware on this one.  The thing is how many exist and are they for sale, you'll probably have to get a bit lucky for that low of a price in restored condition.

If I was at your house and you made me pay a quarter, I'd flip out. Naked profiteering!  :kappa:

But yeah, it's pretty damn amazing. I would totally own this.

Looks like 2,200 units were built here wheat. This kind of impulse and collector purchase (in addition to the several other things planned for an epic gaming room) would cancel out any urge to blow all of my money on a sports car or something :)

I'm not a big pinball fan but I have to admit I'd pay you a quarter to play this one :)

Pinball is one of those things you buy for $3k, play for a week, then get bored of.

Then it wastes space in your house, is good for nothing, and when guests come over they go "wow cool," play it for 12 minutes, and get bored.

Giant waste.

This is true with any old school gaming or arcade setup.

I mean, it's not quite true with my N64 on my 14" CRT.
