Title: Goldeneye Time Trial
Post by: Darth Vader on July 10, 2013, 11:41:59 am
Here's the challenge: You have 50 hours of total time to speedrun Goldeneye levels. In those 50 hours, you have to try to get AS MANY points on the ranks as possible, simple. When your 50 hours are used up and you have noted all your times down, you see what rank you get.

I have no motivation for single stage or full speedrun wr's these days, so this would be fun for me to do. I'll do an attempt of only 1.2 runs.

Good luck with frigate, statue and cradle :nesquik:

I've suggested this idea since like back in 2006.  It's a fun idea for sure but would take a lot of people willing to play a lot of GE for a long time.

Maybe one day we will do it.

No need to have a lot of players doing it, you can do it totally for yourself and see what rank you'd get in 50 hours of play. The good thing is you could do this for like 10 hours for a week, then wait a month or whenever you feel like doing it again and count from 10 hours.

Actually when i think about this again it's a fucking shit idea :kappa: I could probably become champion with those 50 hours spent. I might do a 20 hour challenge or something.

Wouldn't it be more interresting with a much shorter time limit, like an hour or two? That way you'd really have to think about which levels to play and be really consistent since you'd probably only get a few tries on a single level. Also it might make more poeple try it as 50 hours is a really big investment that many poeple might not be up to. Might make for some interresting streaming sessions as well.

Also that way you could easily repeat the challenge and try to improve your "record".

this seems legit

i would say anywhere from 2-5 hours would fit well because there are already categories for 20 min to about 1 hour in full game runs not counting goose categories

being somewhere around 2-5 hours is also good because it matches some other popular speedrun games full runs like zelda, etc and could become popular

the strat would be pretty cool, avoid all the RNG basically... or maybe take some time to risk a few frigate A runs? who knows.

Yeh you nailed it right on the head, Henrik. 2-3 hours or something so you can always attempt to beat your pr in points as well.

what happens if somebody prs at the same time as your run and the pr you get is worth less points than when you got it, do you just count it as the points it is worth at the end of the run or the start?

should be worth as many points as it was when you got it during the run.

Either the start or what Flicker said ^^ (although start might be easier since you wouldn't have to check rankings after every pr, you could just make a copy beforehand or keep it open in your browser or something)

50 hours seems a bit rough. Can't really tell when I put 50 hours into GoldenEye these few years.

5 hours should be pretty optimal. You have plenty of time to get the times you can and it's possible to start grinding more luck-based levels for more points.
