Title: how can i remove myself? (nvm i love goldeneye)
Post by: DJS on July 24, 2013, 04:38:43 pm
ive looked around but i cant find a button where i can close my account (not forum acc, but my rankings/times/info etc.)... dont like speedrunning anymore and i dont like having my name out in the public like that.

cheers

half-year later edit:
when I made this topic I was feeling kinda down as my grandfather had died and shit had happened in real life. for some reason this made me feel like I wanna quit speedrunning and remove all traces I had of it, like removing my rl name from here. (fun fact: the-elite is the current only public place on the internet that has my rl name, i deactivated facebook).

anyway, things are way better now, im over all the family issues i went through due to his passing, and i'm enjoying goldeneye and speedrunning it again (even though my times are bad, its a great feeling getting a PR :p) so i wanna get back into the community, atleast the-elite community. i'm still not a huge fan of srl, but that's another story. i like goldeneye so much that i ordered a japanese cart  :nesquik:

tl;dr: im sorry i made this topic.  yes i know its kinda silly writing a serious edit like this.  :nesquik:
i also deleted all posts i made in this topic, im sure admins can still see them somewhere but i dont wanna see them anymore, they made me cringe alot.

Send a message to YE or someone similar and ask them to change your name on the rankings.

His times aren't very good - Seems like he wanted to get involved, but now he's figured out he just can't compete here. Now his real name is on display representing said disappointment.

Raged.

GG Swompz.

That was one of the most dickish things I've ever read. The man has his reasons for it, and I'm telling you here and now, it's not that he's "raged". (I admit the whole thing is a little  :nesquik: but still...)

DJS is a good bloke, so GTFO.

RE: the actual topic...

As said, email YE (or someone else with power) and you'll be able to change your name to a pseudonym or otherwise. Removal isn't really a thing, and the-elite technically co-owns "your times" - as per the proof policy.

But making it appear as if you were never here is no problem. :D

The real solution, David, is to PM Axel Z on the boards.  He will change your name pretty promptly to some alias.  Just make it a real (fake) name that sounds real, since there are no fake internet aliases allowed on the GE forums.

Messaging any of YE, Ngamer, Derek, etc, is completely fruitless and will never result in anything productive.

Lawls... I figured someone whom most of us don't know, only known by a minor stream if anything, would post something like that and it not be interpreted as being what I said word for word. The first response to the original post didn't take any shit so I figured what I said was accurate.

However I did take into consideration my newish Elite status and lack of credibility as a forum poster - and figured regardless, after the pounding laughter and insults the original post received, I was safe. I don't generally speak my mind around here but I'll be damned if I don't - and like I'm summarizing the original post was asinine, whiny, and too vague/obscure/unclear to come across differently.

I'm a little heated with you Frank but I'll keep it at that. No reason to play heroes and be the savior of an original post that already had an embarrassing reception.

This post is barely even English.

Of course Homeonsplice doesn't think it's dickish, he's an Aussie.

My times aren't good and I'm still here. I like to speedrun the games even knowing that it's very difficult to reach a good place.
Also I don't think he should be able to retire his name from the ranks, Taka wanted to leave and deleted all his good times and youtube account, but his still on the ranks.

* I know that I'm comparing a past champion to someone who has 55 points

Obviously we are sympathetic to the passing of your grandfather and your family situation, but reality is all speedrunners go through these hard times.  Both Ace and I took more than a year off recently and we came back.  Dark Slayer quit PD forever about 5 years ago when Taka beat his untied by 7 seconds, but now he is one of the most frequent stream watchers and coolest dudes in twitch chat.  Just chill out.  You may not be happy about the speedrunning situation right now, but you will be back.  Everyone comes back.

No one will not hire you or accept you into university because your name is on the rankings; and if you really want you can just change it (PM AxelZ.)

You have over 2000 followers on twitch so obviously you care about speedrunning.  Just chill.  It honestly seems like this is a big cry for attention because you haven't been getting much lately (not participating in the marathons, not getting many viewers, not getting good GE times, etc.)

Our condolences.

I can feel for the passing. I actually lost my grandfather last December. I was born and raised by my grandparents so I considered him my dad and he was my legal guardian. I took a couple bereavement-leave days from work but I had to get through it.

As far as the rest of this goes, Goose just nailed it. Too add to it, forums are a public medium which you decided to utilize instead of PMing a council member. So that left members of the community like me reacting to it based on what we were reading. Having a quitting mentality and wanting your name removed from our ranks is obviously gonna be frowned upon around here... and you probably could of done without this:

there are too many speedrun marathons, they arent special anymore. speedrunslive is cluttered with shitty new people. the only place that i still really care about, that is speedrun related, is the tech support forums on sda.

Funny thing is I viewed you as being part of that "shitty" clutter. The rest of the quote displays your unhappiness with our community and disregard for it. At least the reasoning for your original post can be understood a bit better now.

A few posts provided the info you requested to resolve your issue. Have a good one.

Don't worry dude, every reasonable person in the heavy gaming business has those "why am I wasting my life with this pointless shit" moments. For instance, I am one of several eliters who got rid of their GE cartridge at one point. And this board has seen much more whiny and miserable retirement topics than yours. You have to accept that your speedrunning stuff will always be pointless at the end of the day (exceptions: top top streamers, AGDQ organizers, etc) and will never be more than an often enjoyable hobby. Even if you got B2 00A 0:52 right now it would be irrelevant to 99.999% of people. You have to grow up as a runner, only play when you feel like, never neglect RL stuff due to gaming (not texting back gf for hours b/c of focused session is a classic), not give half a shit about rank or reputation and just have a good time when it fits. I see you're 19 years old, an age where some bitchmoves here and there are just human nature.
