Ryan's 1:12 on Streets got me reflecting on some memorable 2-(or-more)-second WRs, and also just epic PRs.
The first that comes to mind, a bit randomly, is Ben Southward's Caverns 1:03 while going for the then-record 1:04 (or maybe one person had 1:03?)
Clemens ones that come to mind - 0:44 Bunker 2 SA, and 1:26 Aztec A (4-sec)
Pretty sure my man Greg Woll hit a then-tied-WR 1:58 on Streets 00 out of nowhere going for 1:59.
Only now am I remembering the obvious choice for my favorite 2-second cut - Statue 00 2:26 (then untied) was a cut from 2:28 :). A week before that 2:27 SA (untied) was also a 2-second cut.
----------
Aside from notable WRs of this variety, I'm sure people have lesser known PRs worth sharing (theme = crazy outlier PRs)

The only thing that even begins to come remotely close to Lockwood's 1:12 was Illu's Jungle SA 54 from the DCIP tied 56, which was the best, most unbelievable untied WR at the time it was set. When Illu posted the 54 everyone freaked out and it was pretty amazing. It was, unfortunately, outdone by an at the time drone-like perfectace shortly thereafter.
I guess Southward's Caverns 1:03 is fairly comparable, given it's a strafing level, jumping 2 sec to tie the untied, BUT it truly cannot be understated just how legendary the time "Streets 112" actually is. This is a time that people did not think was possible, I played for 100 hours, people made fake "Streets 112" board accounts, there was endless discussion on Streets 112 from 2008-2011, finally Marc got it after 80 hours and $100s of bounties in 2012... Streets 112 is a time of legend, and that's what makes this moment so insane.
Other noteworthy cuts were definitely pretty much any Frigate untied from 2006-2009; Boss SA 107 to 103, Goose SA 104 to 102, Wouter 00A 114 to 112, Alex, Boss and Goose all jumped from 114 to 111. Then Ace skipped from 113 to 109. Ace skipping from Control SA 407 right to 405 was pretty epic.
February 2007 will likely go down in history as the most insane month in GE speedrunning and we had two legendary, all time skips. Ace took Train A from 104 to 103, and then 101. Earlier that same month, I took Silo SA 112, a level which since 2004, no one other than Boss or I had even sub 114ed, all the way down to 110. Both of these were considered "the best" WRs at the time.
Illu had some nutso stuff on Aztec 00A... from 149 to 147, then to 145. His "Aztec 147" remains the greatest video ever produced among the GE community. Boss' most insane cut may just be Caverns 00A 142 to 138; a 4 second untied at the time.
There were some pretty insane cuts back in the day, like Wouter on Aztec 00A or Graham Morris on Caverns 00A, but these don't hold up to the test of time. In fact, only Marc Rutzou *doesn't* have a remarkable 2 second untied cut when you are talking about "all time legends of the games." I think this lends credence to the idea that the top legends of GoldenEye 007 speedrun history are definitely Wouter, Boss, Clemens, Ace, Illu and Goose. Marc is still a level or two behind in legend status.
But Lockwood is not. Lockwood has cemented his place as a true legend.
Stay true my friends, stay true.

Illu's 0:54 is a good one to note here. I miss his videos...
Ace's Control 4:05 from 4:07 is also good... the 3 minutes of inflation on Control times have always belied the value of each second cut. I think Boss jumped to 4:00 from 4:02 on agent.
I am really more interested in the times and the miracle factor (luck/probability) vs. the individuals... not sure why Marc is singled out there, but his history of grinding on missions is definitely some sort of legendary in my book. Reminds me of Wouter's relentless pursuits of Bunker 0:17 and Frigate 0:23.

*Wouter Jansen got 0:58 Jungle 00 Agent when the record was 1:02, and that record stayed untied for damn near 3 years.
*Ben Southward's 1:03 was a tied record when Wouter already had 1:03. I wasn't around to see full discussion behind it, but I remember the story in retrospect quite well.
*Derek's Statue 00A 2:26 was long considered to be the first true maxed Statue speedrun, as this was before the Trev shot and A/SA were sitting at 2:27s. It was untaped, which also helped push it to mythical levels.
*Boss's Caverns 00A 1:38 (US) was absolutely insane for its time, as Wouter's 1:42 stood untied for nearly 3 years and another year tied before Boss pushed it under 1:40 in May 2007. If you ever watch this run, which is still his current PR, you'll think it's probably the healthiest run in GE history.
Between early 2006 and early 2010, I hardly paid attention to the evolution of Goldeneye. I missed out on the prime of DCRI among many other things, and my only ways to reference these are from trips to the database and occasional snippets of stories people drop in my twitch chat. I vaguely remember Jungle 54 by Illu, which is sad.
Goose has it all covered in that first post of what I am not an expert on, (that time frame).

Other "Miracle Runs" that come to mind;
Mouser's Runway 22 and Bunker 1 17. Becoming the first person to prove he tied either WR; both of which were considered "the best" at some point.
Randy Buikema's Streets SA 1:55. After a SEVEN year hiatus, Randy randomly returns to tie my last remaining untied. It had been untied for over a year with no one really having come close to tying it. Then Randy OUT OF NOWHERE.
Jimbo's Cradle 00A 0:37. An untied WR at the time, he skipped to it directly from 43 or something absurd.
Karl's return to GE (and PD) in early 2006. After 4 years of absence, he literally just came and dropped bombs like Train A 1:06 (Wouter's 107 was an LSU at the time,) Archives 55 untieds, G5 PA 54 (after having posted "g5 pa 54... I hope" in the WR topic a day earlier.) On top of this, he was posting under the name "Mystery Man" which, even though it was his PD rankings name (changed by Ngamer from Sim Threat,) we were all uncertain at first whether it was a troll or not.
Leonardo Santos' Facility Agent 46 to a big extent. 47 had stood for a long time as the WR and we were on the brink of beating it. Then a pretty new player out of nowhere gets it. And Facility Agent isn't really a "flukeable" level.
Luke Pettit's Frigate 00A 1:05 is still debated to this day. Not because there are any inconsistencies with the video, but because it's so unbelievable. I'm not even sure if he was top 20 at the time, but he just appears out of nowhere with a 1:06 and then a 1:05 the next day. The luck simply seems too good to be true.
-
People forget I got train 1:00 from 1:03. I think thats easily as insane, if not more insane than lockwoods 112.
B2 46 from 48,44 from 46 as well but not as impressive imo. Maybe 44 though.

Pretty sure my man Greg Woll hit a then-tied-WR 1:58 on Streets 00 out of nowhere going for 1:59.
That'd be my oh-so-pathetic in retrospect Woll Factor run where I showed that even with shitty strafing and otherwise lack of ability on Streets, sometimes the guards on the level just want you to get the time. I went for 1:59 on SA for some enormous amount of time and then got my 11 or so boost 1:58 to tie Wouter. Even being pre-lookdown, I must have completely stopped moving at some point on that run to only get a 1:58 out of it.
On the topic of surprise ancient PRs/WRs, Greg Lavery's untied Bunker 2 Agent 0:26 in May 2001 was a jump from 0:28 that came out of nowhere to break a WR that was set back in 1998. It was before he had really risen up the rankings, so a lot of people were skeptical. I don't know if that one was ever proven, but it was never pulled off the ranks, despite Wes calling it impossible. :smokin:

I remember 2 insane train jumps, Aces 1:01 and then the 1:00 by Clem on NTSC amazingly.
Goose Silo sa 1:10 untied from 1:12.
-
Here are some remarkable moments I don't think have been mentioned:
- ~70 219 fails on Statue by various people until a random Dan Cervone gets both 219s and sweeps the entire level in 24 hours
- My B2 00A 1:01 to 0:58 skip in February 2007, that was my PR until I got 0:57 in February this year
- My Jungle 0:54 to 0:52 skip, kinda unreal to me back then
- Clemens' B1 1:06 to 1:04 (which was almost a 1:03 if he got the warp too..)
- My Frig 113 to 109 jump, and then 108 2 tries later
- Illu getting dat Aztec 1:31 and finally tying SZ's time.. even though he never got it :kappa:
- Clemens getting Aztec SA 1:36 (from 1:38) AND me getting 00A 1:40 (from 1:43, although I got 1:41 before the 1:40) on the same day.. well Clemens apparently got it a few days back but we posted it around the same time so w/e
- Me getting 1:02 on Silo, Caverns and S1 in a row.. I think that was pretty cool
- Me skipping Jungle SA 0:54.. although Illu's jump was more amazing
- Both Clemens and me skipping 1:36 Caverns 00A
- Cliff getting S2 SA 0:51 from 0:53. Even though it was a new strat, it was pretty shocking
- Clemens and I get Facility 44/53 both time not saved, literally within an hour of each other after having spent half of April going for those times, the next day or so we both got the other record with time saved, lol
- Jimmy getting 1:26 Aztec from 1:35.. that's probably the most insane skip I've seen after Lockwood's 1:12 and Clemens' 1:00 Train, I would have been super tilted if I never got 1:25
- B2 0:54 from 0:56 is a little insane
- Seeing stuff like Depot 0:25, Runway SA 0:22, Streets 1:12 etc. happen (even with 2.x it's a little surprising)
Obviously not all of those are cuts but I felt like they were worth mentioning here anyway. B2 0:46 from 0:48 wasn't amazing, it's just that no one used insane strats until I got 0:44 fails in March that year.
-

While I agree to an extent, everything needs to be looked at from the perspective of that given moment in time. Looking back now 46 seems cakey and doesnt seem like a big jump, but back at that time 48 was a tied wr and me and you just tied it from boss, and we were both trying for 47, then out of nowhere I skipped to 46. At the time it was amazing, but a few months later it wasnt. Just like if someone found a better strat on Streets agent or it got more attention and people realized I was right about it being overrated.
-
Thanks for ignoring what I said. I got 0:47 last cam fails with 1.3 in early 2007 which is just as insane. Maybe you thought 0:46 was good because you never failed one before, dunno. The first time I seriously played that level with 1.2 I was caking 45/46 fails. I think no one was going insane on that level until they saw my 0:46 run or something. :nesquik:

:nesquik: !

dat ace attitude. Kappa
-
I prefer the Ace that didn't say much.
-
I prefer din mor.
-
rof just remembered I got an untied on facility with 55 which I skipped to from 57 at the same time when I became GE champ for 1 week or so ;D
-
55 from 57 isnt impressive imo. I was getting 36 quits back in 2007 but nobody was using the faster strats yet. Maybe you just thought 55 was impressive because you never failed a 55 before.
-
yea it's not one of the most remarkable cuts I know heh

Oh, I've been always interested in Fac quitout times. Exactly when do you press pause to quitout, what's your quitout time and what's the time you expect on that run? If any top eliter knows, please answer, even though this should be asked in another topic.
-
I was just mocking ace, illu. That was meant to be a complete troll post, lol. :nesquik: :nesquik: :nesquik: :nesquik:
-

At least +18 seconds, but rather more. I.e., Ace had 33 quits which could have been 51 with a perfect ending (warp, stairs, gT, leave) but rather still 52 depending on the quitout decimal (high 33.x). For starters it's probably +20 or more. Position is the standard decoder pause position.
If any top eliter knows, please answer
You're welcome :kappa:
-
Thank you, Gregor :). I was wondering, because I remember doing 39 quitouts in past :).
