i'm not saying reading this will make you any less bored, but at least it wont make you any more bored, i think.
so i met and talked to a few of you guys so far and i gotta say, i'm liking this community's solid north american base. i always loved the idea of smaller scale niche video game speed running but i had no idea there was even an active community for ge complete with an extensive world record database.
i'm 28 and from the philadelphia region, and i used to play goldeneye every single day after school with friends or by myself from like 97-99. since then ive played goldeneye only a few times, never tried speed running and didnt know about the-elite.net. my mom had my n64 for like 10 years and some kids that would visit would play it and wrecked most of my original controller sticks =\ but ive got 2 bootleg ones and a decent orig.
so i know i'm too late to the scene and i already missed out on some cool shit but im still gonna follow the runners and learn the ropes because it interests me, and ill start messing around and try practicing a bit myself. i currently play kreedz maps on counter-strike 1.6 which come in various genres; climbing, speed maps, bhop, slide. heres an example of a world record run on a bhop map called pacman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXnMPJKC7XE . the official site is www.xtreme-jumps.eu
when my cs 1.6 clan which went by the name 007 died, thats when i started playing the kreedz maps. but yeah, prior to 2008, i was in a cs clan called 007. we had a 22 slot server which ran our special mod. the owner of the clan literally paid someone to code it, so we were the only goldeneye counterstrike mod server out there. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the server was packed 22/22 to play our goldeneye free for all death match. We had maps with perfect to-scale dimensions and proper texture rips so it looked identical to goldeneye. same skins, models, maps, sounds, everything, it WAS goldeneye and it was the shit. it wasnt anything like that goldeneye source shit or w/e. it was on the cs 1.6 engine, which runs on the half life engine, which is from 98, but actually most of the source code is from quake so thats 96' so it had that same old school feel that goldeneye does. anyway, it was a great clan, heres the steam group http://steamcommunity.com/groups/ge64 also my youtube name has 007 in it. heres a vid of me doing a super hard trick jump from my channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_PRMJoKH6s
if you read all the way down to this part you might actually feel boreder than you did in the start so sorry
if you want to join the goldeneye ventrilo channel i made for the-elite.net, check this info here https://i.imgur.com/CgiZomF.png

Good to see you on the boards bud!
Like I said, I'd be more than happy to help you get some basic times with some tutorials or even a video tutorial I can do on stream; I've helped a few others out this way too. Love the enthusiasm!

oh by the way, i almost forgot. back in late 99 maybe early 2000 i got a new computer with decent internet (for the time) and i could actually go on websites and stuff. and i searched for goldeneye and a site called Ben's GoldenEye 007 Site was the biggest thing Bond-related on the net. I mean this page had everything, strats and tips to get cheats, gameshark codes, easter eggs and secrets, you name it. i remember watching the little horrible quality mpeg video of how to get the invincibility cheat on facility. oh the feels.
anyway, the site was an offshoot of its parent site, vg64.com and theyve both been down for many years now. however, someone told me about a site that keeps archives of old websites, and i found ben's goldeneye site again. most of the back saves were corrupt, but i found one that works and that is here http://web.archive.org/web/20031220010250/http://www.vg64.com/
click the link to go to ben's site from that main page, and you can navigate around, not everything works, but a lot of stuff does, including the download for the old ass facility speed run i mentioned. this site used to have an embedded multi city chat too, which i used to idle for a while
anyways, if any of you guys have heard of the site before or remember it, please let me know! also- if you check out the site now for the first time, you might find some interesting lost gems
