Title: Homepage writeup...return of POM award!
Post by: Thiradell on February 01, 2014, 05:25:34 pm
Just finished a writeup on GE activity this month, check it out on the homepage! There's more than enough activity these days for a Player of the Month award, so I brought that back as well (would be open to input/voting on who should get it in the future). Keep up the good work, guys!

"[...] a crazy rush of times using a technique that had only been successfully utilized by four people before."

Actually five people. Clem, Ace, Jimmy, me and Bryan

Really cool stuff.  Glad to see the POM back.  It's good that at least one of the "four horsemen of the elite apocalypse" is actually willing to do something that takes advantage of the renaissance around here.

I always avoided things like this because I can't really nominate myself, and someone might feel shorted - I dunno.

Who do I have bang to get more than a soulless footnote at the bottom of "Read the rest of this entry" for 34?

No worries Third :) Ofc Luke is exaggerating but 34 was BBDCRI a little more than a year ago after all and I saw many shoutouts to waaaay more common WRs and worse stuff in the past news.

December 3rd, 2012
"Posting a pair of single records on the month, Ilari Pekkala posted a Cradle Agent 0:34 in an ultimate troll action to Marc Rutzou, who is currently struggling for the record"
"Hopefully by the next update, we’ll all have made it through the December 21st doomsday, Marc will have finally gotten Cradle 0:34"

July 22nd, 2013
"Ryan White ended a multiple year journey by finally getting a time proven to be a crux for many players – Cradle Agent 0:34!"

pretty sure there were more 34s in there :v

Don't let it die! BibleThump

Sorry for bumping, but I took the liberty of compiling February's main stuff. Since I didn't have Feb's (or Jan's) final rankings, I couldn't check the actual point variation - only checked how many points players GAINED, not how many they lost as well. It's not 100% accurate then.

February's Movers and Shakers (that's how it was called, right?  :kappa:)

(GE) 5. Luke Szklarz - 0:03 cut, 2 pts
(GE) 6. Ryan White - 0:01 cut, 5 pts
(GE) 7. Ilari Pekkala - 1 WR, 0:05 cut, 12 pts
(GE) 8. Jimmy Bauer - 3 WRs (1 untied), 0:03 cut, 12 pts
(GE) 9. Jim Barrett - 0:07 cut, 18 pts
(GE) 12. Karl Jobst - 0:33 cut, 142 pts
(GE) 13. Eise Smit - 0:11 cut, 22 pts
(GE) 16. Ryan Koch - 0:02 cut, 16 pts
(GE) 17. Axel Zakrisson - 0:03 cut, 5 pts
(GE) 19. Luke Pettit - 1 WR (1 untied), 0:01 cut
(GE) 22. Michael Kirkness - 1 WR, 0:53 cut, 139 pts
(GE) 23. Alex Anderson - 0:01 cut, 1 pt
(GE) 25. Henrik Norgren - 0:11 cut, 37 pts
(GE) 30. Adam Bozon - 0:12 cut, 33 pts

Nice job on putting this up Rodrigo!

Weird that no one seems to care.

I think most would agree Jimmy Bauer to be February's POM (1 untied and 2 tied, uncommon WRs).

Runner-Ups: Luke P and Gregor D imo.

I agree JB's is a good candidate, some really good play this month by Luke P. and Gregor D and so many others! Also Mouser's return is nothing to blink at.
What ever happens a POM post would be awesome to see!

Am I missing something? The last post on the homepage is "Adam Bozon scores a perfect 100", dated Feb 12th.

Is the homepage just not updating for me?
Title: Re: Homepage writeup...return of POM award!

Yeah, the last post is a bit outdated. A new entry regarding general stuff (new Control discoveries / 3:57s, for instance) + POM would be nice to see. Would be nice if people took turns, so Thiradell doesn't get too overloaded. I could try writing something if no one else wants to do it, but my English isn't exactly front-page material.  :kappa:

About the February stats, Bauer looked much better than the rest indeed, he deserves POM. Luke P/Gregor/Illu for runner-ups imo. Wodahs/Karl/Mouser for honorable mentions due to their amazing point gains (it's funny seeing top 15 players gaining 10-20 points and then Karl with 142 :P).

Doesn't have to be the long writeups either. If something interesting is going on like the current Control destruction then even a very short post just to keep up-to-date would be a good thing i believe.

I used to do it for 2 years straight and haven't really stopped per se, but it was  clear from analytics that no one was visiting the front page so I stopped putting in a ton of effort each month. If I get a fire under my butt, I could easily keep it updated weekly again. I do Facebook page historical updates many times a week too.

Edit: Phone auto correct is a piece of garbage.

Edit 2: Posted on the front page for you gents :D

any reason why you didn't mention Pettit's 1:00? Mouser's comeback? Degenhart's 0:36? etc

Nice update otherwise.

I guess the update could be a 5,000 word essay if you include everything

nice update Jim, engaging and well written

It's ok, I don't expect any press. But then again Milan Pacino "WRs", Bryan Youse PRs and many 16s/53s/17s/22s made the front page in 2013 :P

Appreciate the runner-up nominations, thanks.

EDIT: Frig 100 should definitely be up there. And Boss and Ace getting 89236582 (D)LTK untieds.

It feels odd how "Karl & Eise Move Up" is headlined when not even a word is said about Pettit's 1:00 for instance. After all it is an untied. You might as well not mention Bauer's 2:18 then.

I guess Jim only care about overall ranks and the fact that Eise and particularly Karl are closing in on him  :kappa:

I'm not mad or anything (and I barely visit the front page), just providing some constructive criticism.

I did it in like 10 minutes, but this is why I hardly give a rip to do stuff like that. I'll edit it later. I forgot about the 1:00 and Mouser's comeback, and DLTK is mostly irrel outside of Bozon.

I did it in like 10 minutes

Updates on the front page demands a little bit more time than 10 minutes I'd say, so no surprise you forgot about certain times and players. I'm sorry if I sounded harsh, it was not my intention. I think you understand why I (and probably several others) found it weird why there was not a mention of Pettit's 1:00.

I see you now edited your post, nice! Including everything by now means ends up in a 5000 word essay btw - all Jim had to do to make his update even better and much more consistent was adding half a paragraph.
