Title: Re: Mumble Crew (new elite mumble server!)
Post by: TheFlash on May 13, 2014, 03:44:54 pm
Good news, pals.

I worked with Derek to get something nice set up.  An elite-branded mumble server!

mumble.the-elite.net
port 64738
password is elite

I noticed that the one Lockwood has been graciously offering was limited to only 15 users.  This one has no user limit.

We set up a few hangout zones but if those aren't proper or you need more, just talk to me and I'll make sure it gets done.

Great stuff! :) I will be hanging on there from now on.

No more admin powers for Locky!

Lockwood's is good because there are no irrels allowed.  I'll continue hanging out there, thank you very much.

We set up a section on there for RWhiteGoose, if you sign in and make an account I'll make sure you get set to have full control over your channel.

Lockwood's server is fine. Everyone should just stay there. A 15 user limit doesn't matter, since there are hardly more than 5-6 people in there at once anyway (more than this would make the conversation impossible to follow).

Scott's implementation of the new elite mumble server is just a way for him to control us and gain a foothold in the speedrunning aspect of the community. It's really transparent.

This was my initial reaction as well but I thought about it and I actually believe that scott/derek are people that try to help us and give us a platform to do our things with. As long as that platform is provided (with full control over such things) then I'd say we should applaud people actually doing these things for us.

Scott programmed the whole fucking forum the way we EXACTLY want it to be. Every feature we ever desired, he programmed for us.

Sometimes I truly wish that all people responsible for keeping things updated/online/programmed will all give up at the same time, and tell the whiners to go do it themselves. We'd be back in Aim chat whilst keeping the rankings in a fucking notepad file

Scott is great and does good things for the community

Derek is great and does good things for the community

Ngamer and Come then come in and destroy everything.  There is no point in doing anything while Ngamer and Come are around.  Scott will just do whatever whoever in charge asks, which is wonderful.  He is a loyal servant to the elite's cause.  However, because Ngamer and Come are around, he is loyal to them #1, which is a problem.

Derek really wants the elite to grow, and he sees a lot of potential revenue with new exposure possible from Twitch.  However none of this can ever happen with Ngamer and Come still around.

Hmmm... I don't ever recall anyone asking Scott to install a "can't ignore the admins" feature. Sounds awfully insidious to me.

Nah Larkin, I've come around on Scott.  Sure he is influenced by Ngamer and Come ,but only as much as he is influenced by the people as well.  He does what is asked and tries to find mediating solutions that make everyone happy; which isn't easy.

It makes enough sense that Ngamer asked him to make it so you can't ignore the admin, which isn't unreasonable.  So direct the blame at Ngamer for that, not Scott.

You would go back to the stone age because of whiners? Weird. This whole concept of 'if i didnt do it then no one would' is bogus. Where there is a void someone will step up. Where there is no void, youre not going to find many people stepping up. Im appreciative of the work people put in, but to act as if when they leave this place will implode and nothing would ever happen again is completely stupid.

Wouldn't it be more exciting to have SA, 00A, 100% or some sort of Bingo race instead? Agent races are incredibly dull and the winner is usually predictable. If one guy fails Facility then it's pretty much race over for him (unless you're racing Jimbo, but that's rare).

I am still waiting for the long anticipated Clemens vs Marc vs Ace vs Alex vs Illu 100% race streamed on Goose's channel with eSports commentary from Flicker, Eric and Goose. :nesquik:

Yeah that's true, Ace. We can do Secret Agent races for a change and the best thing would be a bingo!

And ofcourse 100% between you, Illu, Clemens, Marc and Alex.

for the most part, i agree here. although, we did have a pretty amazing spontaneous race last night

i'm always down for racing other categories, secret agent seems especially fun, you have much less to worry about and it's still a pretty smooth run

if we started doing 00a / 100% races it would give everyone a reason to start getting good at the categories, and i certainly would have my hand at it

as for bingo, seems like we've just been lazy as to how to actually make a GE bingo race, i've had a few ideas for goals but i could hardly make it all up on my own.

So as for the bingo stuff goes, I don't think we will be able to get any type of cohesive ruleset unless someone just uses the generator, makes the goals, and makes the rules to go with the goals.

I have been hesistant of doing this because the goals would end up being like beat x levels with y or obtain z of j or something of that format which would require every level + cheats and some have expressed that this format is not the best.

The next best thing would be like a randomly generated goal upon start of the race ranging from 100% to like beat Cradle 00A with Fast animations or something and this would be all from newfile due to the limited scope of goals.

PS: Kapparov has a new hand.
PPS: Sorry Eise but I did shoppin myself thanks for your work though!

What about having more general goals that leaves many options as to how to accomplish them? Or more specifically, goals that aren't tied to a specific level/cheat. For example, "Beat any 00A level in less than x seconds", "Unlock x number of cheats", "Kill 50 guards in a single level", "Beat any 00A level without taking damage".

This way, the player has to make choices. For the first goal, the player might have to make the choice of unlocking a faster level (where beating X seconds will be easier) at the cost of losing time, or do an earlier level, which might end up taking longer due to being harder. The second goal would be similar, where the player has to figure out which cheats are worth getting.

Of course, you'd want to avoid goals that makes the first levels the obvious choice. Restrictions could be added as well, such as which levels are permitted. Also, with several goals to be completed, one would have to weigh in the combined advantages of unlocking levels/cheats for all goals.

It's also possible to add some goals which are level-specific to force the unlocking of later levels and further avoid all goals being done on early levels. (Possibly make the goal to beat a level on lower difficulties than 00A, thus leaving the option of which difficulty to actually play, since SA/00A might unlock helpful cheats and levels that would be beneficial to have when trying to accomplish other goals.

Another possibility is to have goals that allow any cheat to be used (or none). That way, you'd have the option of unlocking a cheat(s) to help accomplish your goal, or do it the cheat-less way which obviously would have to be harder/slower. (Such as the example above "Beat any level without taking damage").
