That Extraction is actually pretty sick for its time. The Mike Martin vid is a classic. I was blown away by that strat.

Another great history iniative, love it.

Has anyone tried that Cavs 00A strat in recent times? Would be cool to know how low it can go.

Another great idea. I've really enjoyed the "on this day in elite history" thus far, and I'm sure there are hundreds of neat old vids that you can sort through.

I want to make a push to feature Wouter's old Silo untieds (1:06, 1:16, 1:37) at some point, probably my all time favorite "old school" GE vids. My real favorite old school vids are all PD :)

Video of the Day
Bizichyld's Air Force One SA 1:22; an untied WR when set in November 2002

Oh wow!  I made hundreds of videos back in that era, but this was the only one that ever blew up and drew thousands of downloads.  But hmmmmm, it's playing some circus music instead of the theme from Requiem for a Dream.  I guess you had to replace the music with something copyright free so Google wouldn't pull it down?  Makes sense; here's the original with Requiem in case anyone's interested.

@ Jon:

Yeah, my account received two warnings in the past so I'm extremely cautious when it comes to copyright infringement.

Emile's Frigate Secret Agent 1:10 is really entertaining. I love the commentary :D
"Open door, open the door yes". And then someone tried to do that Bomb defuser sound LOL.

At the last hostage: "And... Shoot that ****er, shoot that ****er, and then the sound again haha! Amazing!

If you're looking for an explanation of what happened, here's what I can see.

Right before the final stairs and text pops up there, there is a very subtle screen shake from an explosion.  The most likely case is Trev dropped a nade on himself, but also could have come from a guard (no guard was around though)

As for how/why it happened..... not a clue

Most likely scenario is he dropped a nade while staying below the ramp, similar to the normal suicide strat (it should work the same way in every place he stops ). We already know he can sense your presence through walls and stuff so it's not unlikely he can drop nades on himself while you're near the ending stairs.

I don't think he can drop nades while running can he? Only if it's right after he started?

Perhaps he fell out of bounds to his death?  :kappa:  I didn't notice the screen shake at first, but now that Flicker said it I can even hear the (very, very faint) sound of the explosion in the background. Or maybe I'm just hearing things.

Love the crosshair reaction, it looks like it's saying "huh what just happened here".

You can hear the nade drop at 0:45.

You're right. So Trev was stuck at the top of the ramp so long that Axel made it far enough before Trev got to the bottom and did his normal waiting, which allowed a suicide.

He can drop a nade on the way to the ramp after the hut. Ive seen this many times. So if he gets stuck on ramp and runs into explosion he can die. Odds of him dying are ridiculously low but ive had damage messages from it many times and always known a 34 is possible this way.

Getting 34 like that would easily crown the biggest degen

Why did the fadeout begin even though Axel never went to the very bottom?

Yeah, this has to be looked at. Inb4 he did a 'pause trick' by accident resulting in a completion :nesquik:

that's a known trick to stand on the very edge of the ladder, alex has shown it off at gdq even

That's interesting. Very lucky run indeed. :P 34 would easily be T1 with this strat.

Why does the video of the day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKd16WaO_Ls) have a spliced endscreen?

I still have my original video on Thengamer.com/GE.

It does not contain that abrupt screen transition that is found in that video.

Looked like an encoding problem to me. Notice how the end screen is frozen for a second or two.

Uh, m8.

well, you hijacked votd with your window kill. That's what happened.

I will resume votd tomorrow then.

You're more than welcome coming with suggestions (PM me/AIM/FB).

Henrik's 1:55 has always had my favorite background music I've ever heard in any WR video.

"Birth of a God" is such a good song; pretty sweet remix/orchestral thing going on in the vid's version.

Yeah, it's probably one of my favorites as well.

I remember Trent has started like three (?) virtually identical topics asking Henrik the same thing every time (what's the name of the song?) throughout the years.

that Henrik 1:55 might be the best demonstration on how far we've come with Goldeneye in 10 years.  Wow.
