My laptop gets deaded and this is what follows.

I've been connecting on 2/15, 3/15's for a while these days... maybe it just seems like this because karl, wouter and clark aren't there anymore as idlers since the race
-
the-elite renaissance officially dead
Ngamer's AIM chatroom confirmed more relevant than Mumble

I'm only half trolling, but irc is the best platform:
It supports loads of different clients for all operating systems, and new people can access it from a web interface too, you don't have to use aim or some other shitty early 2000s software nobody cares about anymore. To quote myself in an earlier thread I made:
Not only is it very convenient and accessible, but you can also interact with other people in other channels on the speedrunslive network which will help promote this community further.
It's not chat software I would recommend to normal casual groups of friends, but it's standard for international gaming communities and tons of gaming communities use it.
Finally, I happen to be friends with all the top executives and lead programmers in silicon valley and they all agreed with me in an IRC discussion earlier that IRC is the best.
-
Why are you even trying to convice us of this crap?
-
Because the elite will be better off for it, and I think it just makes sense for Goldeneye to establish a presence on the speedrunslive IRC network:

Look at all those channels, see anything missing?
-
meh

We had an IRC channel from mid 2013 to early 2014. It died out quickly because many tech-illiterate eliters didn't know how to use it, and then mumble came along which is far better anyway.
-
Yea I would say that our community is mostly centered around the forums, then smaller outlets where people hang out such as the AIM chatroom, or mumble, hell I wouldn't be surprised if there was a skype group out there with elites in it lol.
Sure we could idle in an IRC but in the end it would only end up being like 5 people or something.
-
What about MSN Messenger :nesquik:
-
Going to start up my Bebo account, add me

Yeah, I wish there was a Skype group for us eliters. Let's do that instead of Mumble.
I forget about Mumble everytime lol.
-
I hate skype because its a phone call not a voice server which allows you to speak freely when you want.
-
Skype and IRC are both so fucking bad... Mumble is super sick, haven't used a good chat program like that since MSN.
(I give the permission to all programing nerds to print this and send to whatever programing nerd humor forum you use... or IRC channel LOL)
-
How about unified account sign in across all parts of the-elite.net including an in-browser IRC or XMPP client?
-
meh

As with most things like this, I like the idea of unifying things wherever possible. IRC (SRC, #goldeneye) and/or Mumble (mumble.the-elite.net) are the two mediums I could really get behind.
SRL's buzzing IRC network changed my outlook on IRC. Simple things, like a sound + blinking tray icon when my name is mentioned, are a nice way to stay instantly available w/o being fully engaged. Certainly seems less unusual than AIM in 2015. And Skype/GChat/Facebook belong to the realm of my non-gamer life, so feels weird to use those. Mumble is cool but it doesn't seem like people use it for IM'ing... for some reason putting on a headset feels like a quantum leap....
Non IRC users -- if you could connect and chat in your browser (as Thingy offered to set up) would that make it more appealing?
