That is a wisdom tooth. Specifically the 2-8 (upper left.) The brown part on the left is the "tooth" as you'd see from inside a mouth. Completely rotten, enamel gone, just soft, rotting pulp tissue left. (That part was soft and squishy.) And also probably only 1/3rd of the size it should be... the rest had rotted away. The other half are the roots with some gum cartilage still attached.
This is the *third* tooth like this I've had removed since 2011. One was the other wisdom tooth (the 1-8) but another was a permanent adult tooth I will never get back without implants (the 3-7.) I've also had three root canals on the 1-7, 4-7 and 3-6.
This is what drinking Coca-Cola for 15 years while going through 1-2 year phases of depression and degeneracy, not caring for oneself, not brushing teeth daily or often at all, will do to you.
Humans greatest failures are the inability to learn from each other, and the inability to learn quickly from oneself. This is a true addiction and one that affects my life adversely. While I'm fortunate to live in Canada, growing up with good dental insurance, I've had the value of close to $10000 in dental worth done on my mouth, all at the age of 25. I will likely need veneers, implants or dentures within the next 20 years. I say all this full well knowing I could have prevented it, and I could improve my current situation... though I'm sitting here writing this post while drinking a Coke.
You only get one body, and even moreso, you only get one set of teeth. Make sure to live your life to the fullest while keeping yourself safe and healthy. There are some things you just don't get second chances with.
