Why is The-Elite community hated and thought of as 'toxic' by so many people, speedrunners and stream monsters alike? All too often I see and hear people talking shit, in fact merely bringing up Goldeneye in some circles of my friends immediately makes them start yelling at me to shut the fuck up about my shitty floor simulator. As someone who mainly communicates with speedrunners outside of The-Elite, I'd like to shed some light on why this mentality exists.
1. 'PR'. In case you are unaware, quite literally the only people who don't say 'PB' in reference to a new best time are Eliters and real-life runners. This creates a separation between Eliters and the speedrunning majority, a separation which some view as elitist, almost like we're think we're so special that we have to have out own abbreviation for PB.
2. Lack of player relevance outside of The-Elite. There are truly only a few Eliters that speedrun anything besides GE/PD. Of those that do, most of them only run other shitty meme games or irrel ILs (Pilotwings, Wave Race, Grow Home, Pinball, flash games, etc.) The only exceptions to this rule I can think of are Wodah, Goose, Cosmo, and myself. The fact that 99% of Eliters are completely irrel to literally anyone outside of The-Elite obviously encourages the disconnect between The-Elite and the speedrunning community as a whole.
3. Goose
4. Age. The age of the average Eliter is probably somewhere around 25, while outside of The-Elite that average is around 20. It may not sound like a huge difference, but having so many fucking dinosaurs in the community can be seriously off-putting to anyone unfamiliar with The-Elite. It kind of gives us an aloof, "I'm-better-than-you-because-I'm-older" vibe.
5. The nature of the game. Lets face it: the only people who still run ILs and not RTA runs are irrel SDA oldboys and speedrunners that play newer PC games that lend themselves well to ILs (Hotline Miami, Hotline Miami 2, etc.), most of which have streamlined online leaderboards anyway. Individual levels are dead in the grand scheme of things, and we're the ones stuck in the past.
6. Lookdown. Self explanatory, it's an easy way to take a jab at the game without actually knowing anything about it. fuck whoever discovered it.
7. Jimbo's dick pic. Yashi will not stop bringing this up, and It's embarrassing to all of us. Fucking why.
There it is, folks. A honest, objective look in the mirror at how awful this community is. If anyone else has any other reasons to hate The Elite, please, post them by all means.

I bring up Jimbo's dick pic because you told me about it at AGDQ. It's literally all I know about Jimbo so whenever you bring up Jimbo I just say "That guy with the dick?" I don't talk about it to anyone because while it is kind of really fucking weird, it's not important to anyone. Most of these "speedrunners" are just a bunch of 20 year old loser virgins who jerk off to hentai while playing some shit meme game. There are only a half dozen or so actually "relevant" speed games... Goldeneye, Mario Kart, F-Zero, Zeldas, SM64, Super Metroid... most else is just some meme shit that these loser virgins tryhard at so they can have 1 thing to feel good about themselves in their pathetic lives. I know because I've been there. It sucks. But there's no shame in being a shitty, ugly, poorly dress, virginal, good for nothing piece of crap when you're 20 years old. In fact, enjoy it while it lasts. Play your shit game and have fun. Things will get better in time, so just believe in yourself, stay true, and things will turn to a brighter page soon.
I honestly don't understand why people don't like me when I just try to bring the world positive messages of reality and how life will turn around for the better one day.
Also, there is nothing more "toxic" than using the word "toxic." You know what community never used that word before? Oh yeah, the-elite.

Illu had the 16 star WR aeons ago. Karl did the GE/OoT/SM64 marathon in sub 1h and got >300k views. Clemens is a top notch SM player. JustinDT has sub 2h 120 star and qweczol is close. How much more extracurricular commitment do you want lol?

Using PR isn't elitist and most of us have switched to using PB (Clemens uses it all the time now). But anyway, we've been using PR for 10+ fucking years, do you think it's going to be easy to switch to PB just because everyone else fucking does? Why does this even fucking matter? PR corresponds to WR so I'm surprised people don't use it actually. But anyway, I'm amazed this matters so much that it causes disconnect between Eliters and other speedrunners.
I have no idea how the Elite is "toxic" because of the games we run. It may cause disconnect but in no way makes the community "toxic".
I hope OP's post is a troll. It's a complete joke and so disrespectful, especially to those who have invested well over 10k hours across both games. This thread itself is a fucking joke.

It is mind blowing to me that anyone actually bothered to reply seriously to this, let alone reply with what is actually here. This goes above and beyond anything I anticipated and in fact serves to prove some of the points that I mentioned (none of which I actually believe). All of them are pretty much just half-truths, things that are kind of true but might as well not be because of all the sarcasm and shit they are dripping with.

It's pretty disgusting that you guys say 'pr' instead of 'pb', of all the reasons mentioned on the list, that one is actually quite pertinent to the issue of why The-Elite is so toxic. I honestly think it's quite disgraceful, shameful even. I spend a lot of time thinking about this issue because it really bothers me, I can't believe you have the audacity to use a retarded term like 'pr' instead of 'pb, it just demonstrates how despicably arrogant The-Elite really is imo.

From calculators to watches to even oscilloscopes, dedication to these games can be found all across the world. There's probably even a toaster than can run Doom.
