Inspired by a comment from Narcissa on Austin's stream. One day, 25 years in the future we will look back and see if anyone is correct. So PREDICT what you think will be the last untied to happen in this game, and when it'll happen.
I predict the games will fade away into irrelevance sometime in the early 20s, and the last WR will be achieved by Jezz Savage. Most likely Facility 00 Agent 0:51. Prior to that we will see a random Streets 00 Agent 1:53 fluke from Dan Parker in 2021.

In 20XX, Robert Rune will come out of retirement to obtain Frigate A 20, a 2-second untied at the time, by discovering a train shot-esque strat to kill the hostage guards immediately after starting the level with terrible consistency. This record will drive other players of the era insane trying to duplicate, leading to the focus of The-Elite transitioning from GoldenEye to The Witness speedrunning officially.
Three years later, Icy's oldest child will discover the fabled Control Skip, bringing the WRs down to 1:33/1:35/1:35 and reinvigorating the GoldenEye speedrun community until the end of time.

In the Last Degen Era of GE, a man born on a certain day to uncertain parents will master the open door strategy on Dam 00 and grind out a perfect basement, achieving Dam 00 1:52.

This is slower than the known strat of killing the bridge one during the intro, unless you also meant any others, then 20 would be a horrible time and would never be the last untied.

I predict the final GoldenEye untied WR will happen sometime in the early 2040's.

Well presumably more and more stages will become maxed over time, leaving only near-certain death strats on the game's hardest levels remaining, so maybe something like Aztec 00 1:27 or Silo 00 1:13.

Yeah it certainly could be that the last untied involves one of those super high risk strats, but my guess is that it will be something involving a new strategy that hasn’t yet been conceived.
By that rationale, I don’t want to choose a level. I’d just have to throw out something random; I might do that later. But guessing WHEN it happens seems like something that could be estimated.
I’m gonna go with 2031, and here’s my rationale: people are going to stop trying at some point. Honestly, I think the biggest threat to the continuance of untieds happening isn’t levels getting maxed. I think the biggest threat to the continuance of untieds is community members losing interest, or community members losing interest in going for untieds and focusing on things like Matchplay, leagues, and just improving their rankings by getting ranked times or tied world records. There’s nothing wrong with any of those things. In fact, I think they are good things to keep the community going, because untieds are just going to get rarer and rarer even if people keep going for them as hard as they can. People need something other than untieds to get excited about. I haven’t been actively following this community for very long (since about 2019), but I know a lot of the history at this point. This kind of transition is already happening to some extent and it seems natural. What I think will happen (and it is already going in this direction) is that it’ll take the discovery of new strategies for people to even try to go for an untied. And of course, you’ve also got to have people trying to find those ever-more-difficult strategies.
This conversation fascinates me. It reminds me of Goose’s Fireside Story about a Mario Kart 64 time of 00:00 on a certain stage. He then talked about how certain single lap times in that game are under one second and possibly already maxed out (or very close anyway). He then talks about speedrunning philosophically, and how, while the goal is to get as low of a time as possible, you don’t really want to reach that point, because at that point there’s no new frontier left to explore.
I’d like to imagine that this community and players competing in it will outlive me, and I kind of hope it does. However, if I had to put money on it, I’d guess that people in general will lose interest over time, at least in going for untieds. There’s also the inevitable heat-death of the hardware needed to compete, because at least for now, the rules require real N64s. They don’t make them anymore, and the ones in use are constantly being worn out. You also need N64 controllers (which third-party companies still make, but that won’t last forever) and compatible TVs or adapters to make newer TVs compatible. Between all of those things, 10 years from now seems like about as far as I can imagine the hunt for untieds going. But who knows? I hope I’m wrong. I don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about anyway.
