from 3:38-3:42 i thought someone was playing a tin whistle or a flute... found out it was just her voice... but hot damn shes hot, but i cant be with her, i have to be with my double bass pedals
-
Dude, she has an amazing voice. Probably only Leona Lewis and Mariah Carey are comparable in pop today.
-
I think that songs pretty annoying...despite how she looks if i didnt have to hear that song again i'd be happy.
-
Why do you think it's bad? Because society tells you not to like it since you are a 22 years old guy? Way to be open minded Adam.
-
way to put thoughts and words in his mouth that he never said, Ryan (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ftongue.gif&hash=7cfc888ebd66cf455a55fd5e124ee8267da91148)

its so sugary its sickening, and completely uninspired and devoid of anything interesting, totally forgettable, recyclable. shes hot, so it sells. she sounds like a robot, and i guess thats hot at the moment.
structure: cheesy intro / V / C / V / C / Bridge / C (fade)
this isn't an attack on you ryan, just a response to adams post about why we hate this stuff, especially when its thrown at us like mtv and radio usually does.
i'm actually really interested in what you get out of this 'song' haha
-
I want to be with a girl similar to the one she represents, lost in the moment of the song. That's why I like all these young girls singing about love and stuff. It's in my dreams to spend these magical moments out looking at the stars or making love in the flowery meadow with them.
-
thank you Luke....and afan (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsick.gif&hash=147d83ab69333060437ede2e0058676600b3ea8c)
ryan you want to date a girl similar? she is acting and its totally fake. all here stuff is probably pre-written and she doesnt write it so im sure the only reason she is singing it is a paycheck. good luck finding that (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ftongue.gif&hash=7cfc888ebd66cf455a55fd5e124ee8267da91148)
-
Well I want a girl similar to how she is acting then...
-
*hasn't heard/seen the song yet*
fair answer Goose, but in all honesty, life isn't necessarily gonna be like that. life is work and enjoying the fruit of your labors and what you've built for yourself. dreamers and daydreamers rarely get anything done.
*looks around to see if anyone's looking* the bible has scripture on this as well if you're interested (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ftongue.gif&hash=7cfc888ebd66cf455a55fd5e124ee8267da91148) but seriously though (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fsmile.gif&hash=1adea417e08e9042f9ce1a5426616bf29f2ca20e)
... here we go...
-
You're not dreaming if it's a goal and you have a plan to achieve it.
-
uh... was that a rhetorical question or an obviously self-answering statement?
oh, Goosey-Goo, your music preferences will always make it lighthearted around here. (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ftongue.gif&hash=7cfc888ebd66cf455a55fd5e124ee8267da91148)

it was just a statement letting you know that I know that being a dreamer is weak.

dude i totally agree! this is why i have country music! country music/pop does nothing but intro, v, c, v, c, bridge, c fade...
Death Metal does not follow this at all. 95% of all metal bands are unsuccesful cause everyone thinks all they do is "scream" which is total bullshit. most of those guys come from prestige music colleges. for instance, drummer for Arsis, graduated from berkely and as soon as they signed with nuclearblast he left to go be a surgeon. great musical talent in those bands and its over looked... such as anterior, great guitar solo's some of the best i have ever heard, but they will never be anything because they dont play repeated chords
also in this video from 1:43-1:46 she looks like the chick from billy madison... the school teacher.
-
I'm not denying that a lot metal artists are very good musicians, I just generally don't like the atmosphere, themes and feel of that genre which is a lot more important to me than musical talent.
If you want to listen to a unique pop song, go listen to Justin Timberlake - What Goes Around... Comes Around. Definitely one of the few popular songs that actually has it's own style and musical thought.
About 50% of modern pop songs have actually the exact same chord progression. Amin, Fmaj, Cmaj, Gmaj or some direct translation of that. Another popular one is Amin, Cmaj, Gmaj, Dmaj or some translation. Though in all fairness, they are very nice to listen to progressions but I can understand if you feel listening to 100 songs that could all be mashed up together no problem is a bit dry.
I also remember that My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade is one of the most well written songs which has entered mainstream popular music in the past few years, though MCR could be borderline metal? Regardless, they're definitely not your generic pop band. The song has a very unique form and progresses incredibly well.
I do realize that pointing out two exceptions to "all pop songs are the same" doesn't do much but hey (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ftongue.gif&hash=7cfc888ebd66cf455a55fd5e124ee8267da91148)

.

My chemical romance is know where near metal!
-
And your English skills are nowhere near acceptable!
-
And do you think I give a shit?
-
Nope, and it's because of people like you that the USA is failing so hard right now.
-
GOODNESS!
-
my chemical romance are creative i guess but not metal... and not close to death metal... besides, i listen to death metal because i admire their talent... i dont want to listen to pop cause everyone else does... if i followed that scheme, i would go buy a hurley hat
-
Lol Alex. Your only criteria for listening to death metal is their talent? I hate to break this to you but there are talented musicians in all genres of music. And I listen to wayyyyyyyyy more pop than any other guys my age yet I don't wear Hurley, Hollister or any of that stuff. All your preferences should be based on what you like and what is good for you rather than what others do. Even in your case you are being a bitch to other's preferences since you decide you have to go against them.
-
the thing that frustrates me with death metal is the obsession with fire, blood, death, dragons; these themes which cover almost all metal record covers and (im not so sure here) lyrics.
-
yes, I agree 100% with Luke. If it weren't for these things I wouldn't have such a block on appreciating metal music.
-
please read all of this, it gives a great depict on what metal is. i just see it as you guys are somewhat confused... you watch commedy movies, you watch horror movies... so why not the same for music??
see this is whats wrong, you assume the whole genre is about fire breathing dragons and people being tortured and spilling blood all over their faces. thats what it might look like but no. studies show that metal music is one of the least genres that are about drug/alcohol abuse and sex. they usually write about feelings they have toward something. for instance...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cac2-dTkayY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cac2-dTkayY)
listen to that and im sure you think they are talking about killing and what not but no... they the band Nile whose many themes for their songs are egyptian life... wow! can you believe it! part of the song follows by
Sebek, Sochet, Suchos.
Dread Lord of the Marsh.
He Who Crawleth Amongst the Sacred Waters.
And Devoureth the Flesh of That Which is Sacrificed unto Him.
sebek was the principal crocodile god in ancient egypt. in primitive, pre-dynastic times, during seasons when the canals dried op, the crocodile wandered the fields at will, killing and eating whatever or whoever crossed its path. the nile crocodile is one of the very few animals on our planet that actively hunts and preys upon humans with specific (as opposed to incidental) intent. the egyptians associated him with death and evil but would help those who enter the after world. people would bring sacrifices such as meat and other foods to the priest of sebeks temple to help bring a closer relationship towards the crocodiles. sebek, sochet, suchos are common names of sebek.... making the lyrics for this song about egyptian mythology
Amon Amarth (got their name from mount doom in lord of the rings) is a viking themed death metal band from sweden. they base their music off of norse mythology and the viking age. one of their cds is titles "with oden on our side". one of the band members said "Well, it kind of has several meanings to it. Oden is of course the highest god in Scandinavian mythology, and he's the god of warfare, wisdom, poetry and artistry. The reason we chose the title is that it suited the lyrical concepts of the album and signified the feeling we had during the writing and recording of the album. We literally felt as if we had the Gods on our side."
dimmu borgir (means dark fortress or dark cities in icelandic and got their name from a volcanic formation in iceland) their lyrics are about how christianity was brought upon their ancestors by force, not by choice and their views of it all... the list goes on
their are mutiple genres in death metal, symphonic, melodic, grindcore, deathcore, technical, brutal death, black, ... um grind/death core is more of your brutal death metals as well, usually just tons of blast beats and growls... black metal is for bands that write about their religous views... for instance their is christian rock... and for bands that use atheism or satanic usually fall under the black metal... symphonic and melodic are the more pleasing bands out of the genre, they use neoclassical themes in their music such as hungarian dance and many others... archeon, cadacross, children of bodom, mors principium est, nightwish ... these bands are associated with keyboardist. if you like piano music then these genres usually have piano solos so they are the one for you... a large amount of death metal music is actually slow...
Cradle of filth, sings a song which is a love poem... this song is very good. a girl sings half of the song while the other guy does as well... in a sense romeo and juliett style.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgXmwCbnIhc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgXmwCbnIhc)
now for as skill... some of the musicans in the metal genre are ranked in the fastest players. now you cant say whats the best solo or who is better since thats anyones opinion, but for as speed and technicality you can measure that. some of these guys have graduated from musical schools where they go to further their talent and are almost all classically trained. cradle of filths guitariest went to guitar institute in iondon, some have graduated from oxford, berklee, and julliard.
-
a) I don't watch horror films
b) It's Berkley, not Berklee
though I did read your whole rant. Not that it changed anything. I'm listening to Madonna right now and it's awesome (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Fhappy.gif&hash=7b9cd982f9a41f9aefcd7ea74682d5f1e4caf4c6)
though tbh, you're still describing an "image" in your post. All Metal acts live off their image. Regardless of it being Satanic, pure, God-like, religious, atheist, whatever. They have an image. Try putting an image on an ambient artist (which imo is the best quality genre of modern music being made today, movie scores and video game scores are also very good tho, but I digress...) You can't. They make music to make good music. A lot of metal guys make music to fit the metal image of badass tough whatever and you guys eat it up.

-
Ryan, Alex is actually correct, it's Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Some metal music is really good, but a lot is incomprehensible garbage. OMG, let's forget totally about harmony and see h0w quickly i can do some shitty blastbeats looooooooool
-
an image... metal artist try for an image? so does everyone... hip hop/ pop chicks are always wearing nothing flashing their boobs out and wearing tons of make up. look at any magazine, watch any tv show... you will not find a death metal artist anywhere, why? cause they dont look to please, they could give a shit less... they play their music because they like what they play, not what the public thinks.. if they did think like that... they would all be succesfull
-
shitty blast beats? can you blast? can you play the drums? can you double bass at 240? actually you cant so we will skip right along. metal drumming is not easy, most death metal guys though practice jazz in their younger years until they build up enough endurance to play metal... metal is not something you can just start playing in 1-4 years.
-
First of all, I do play drums. I mainly play jazz. I don't use double bass on my kit because i don't need to.
Lol @ how you think drummers are unworthy because they can't play double bass at 240 bpm.....with that in mind it's not surprising that you're misunderstanding my comment about blast beats. Sure, they're technically difficult. I never said they weren't. I just think that in most situations they're totally devoid of any musical worth
And practising jazz in order to build up endurance for metal? Are you shitting me? Most jazz drummers are as, if not more, technically gifted than metal drummers. No jazz drummer can play metal to a decent level. Conversely, no metal drummer can play jazz properly. The two styles are too far apart for someone to be consistent in both.
-
LOL @ this whole argument about personal opinions!
