I've thought about making this poll for quite some time.
I'm a huge fan of this series and have every released title in my book shelf (as well as additional editions of 1001 Movies). The only title I don't have in English is 1001 Natural Wonders (you can see the Swedish edition on the picture). The two latest titles in the series are 1001 Plants and 1001 Quotations (usually two titles are released every year).
Before deciding for what titles to vote for, you should take into account the following factors such as:
- which titles would I most likely want to finish? (if you haven't already).
- if you had access to every entry in every title, which titles would you pick?
- which titles would I most likely want to read about? (not all books in this series are possible to finish; the titles that are "uncheckable" are options #29-32).
- which titles would I most likely want to explore? i.e. you may not even want to finish everything in your favorite titles.
- which titles would I find most enjoyment from/would make my life happier/more fulfilling?
- the money factor
- the time factor
- other factors not listed here
Also feel free to comment on what you think are the worst and/or most irrel titles.
I will post my picks and thoughts later.
NOTE: option #22 and #23 (TV Series and TV Shows) are actually more or less identical (one is in paperback whereas the other is in hard cover). I naturally had to buy both books for obvious reasons.
Discuss and explain your votes!
-
Albums, Songs, Paintings, Buildings, Movies.
If I had another 5 Choices I would include: TV Shows, Books, Inventions, Walks, Video Games
-
Beers!
I'm a simple man. I see alcohol, I vote yes!
-
Beers - i'm a beer man, like maxxie <3. I can enjoy a very wide range of sorts of beer, so this list would suit me very well.
Restaurants - I never expected myself to include this one and vote it over anything music / movie / entertainment related, but really sharing a good evening in a wonderful restaurant with your friends and/or loved ones is an amazing experience. And yes, a very good restaurant adds a LOT to this.
Paintings - I'd pick this one not because I love watching paintings, because I do. It's because I think I haven't seen enough of them yet. Drop me into any museum with paintings and I can dwell the halls for hours without saying a word. I definitely have to look more into this artform because it's truly amazing, hence the pick
Ideas & Inventions have always intriged me because there is nothing more mysterious than the concept of an idea. It's a mini big bang inside your head. It's impossible to grasp the moment of "getting an idea" and i've read a few books on it. One moment there was nothing and then - poof - suddenly there is an idea. To me, it's a magical thing.

Voted:
Wines, Beers, Restaurants, Escapes and Movies.
I, too, very much enjoy this series. I own the beer book, restaurants and two editions of the wine book. There are more than five books I'm always working on, I guess almost every day, without guidance from the books. The book I'm the most likely to finish would be beers. Most of the beers are pretty widely available, inexpensive and I've already made plenty of progress. At this point, I would be able to provide way better picks for the book as it is heavily biased on traditional beers while some of them aren't justifiable (at least then it comes to taste). The wine book have surprisingly good picks from all around the world; although, I won't be able to buy some of the insane stuff that's featured in it, for instance: 1945 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1961 Lafite, DRC, and 1945 Marqués de Riscal R.M. (Reserve Medoc) - a wine that's only been made once, kept in the producers cellar, not available to the public. When I went there a few years ago, they did not even want to talk about the wine.
In essence:
Everything alcohol - beer, wine, whiskey
Everything food - restaurants, foods
Everything travel - escapes, walks, natural wonders
Movies
Video Games
I can also see myself enjoying books on classical music, books, songs, and albums. But these all feel like future projects, maybe in time when I'm not able to travel the world eating and drinking.

1001 Marc videos Axel won't reveal until you die
-
Interesting choices so far. And some good, expert inputs from Patrik on Beers and Wines.
I voted: Movies, Buildings, Historic Sites, Foods and Ideas.
Movies simply because I'm a cinephile. I've seen all 1001 and would glady watch many of them again. Well-written articles in this volume too.
Buildings because architecture is a very interesting topic, and the selection is inspired and varied. I have a long list of buildings I want to see before I die.
Foods because it got me to make an excel and track all the foods I've tried. Historic Sites because many sites intrigues me.
1001 Ideas was a surprisingly entertaining and addictive book (moreso than the others) hence the vote.
The reason I didn't pick 1001 Natural Wonders is because the selection is rather bad and the articles were poorly written. 501 Must-See Natural Wonders is a much better book.
1001 Songs kinda sucked (I have heard them all) and was overall a major disappointment. Albums...no. Classical Recordings...I don't think so. "1001 Classical Pieces" would've been a lot more interesting.
Video Games, sorry but no, I'm not really a hardcore gamer.
If I could pick 5 more it would probably have been Wines, Beers, Escapes, Walks and Inventions.
1001 Golf Holes (:-X) and Guitars and Bikes are three of the worst/least interesting volumes in the series imo.

If you're not a fanatic like I am, there's no need to be excited about this volume as it is pretty much identical to 1001 Historic Sites (which I knew of beforehand). I don't get why they release "new titles" with the same content as an earlier book. To fool customers? Nevertheless, this book is now in my shelf.

You answered your own question, Axel. Fanatics like yourself are forced into buying another overpriced thoughtless replica of an older compilation the publisher literally shat out of the printer and slapped a different cover on. Most of the general public won't know this and will buy it without second thought in time for Christmas season gift giving. They could release 1001 Greatest Shits Ever Taken as long as they keep "1001" in the title and fanatics like you would still buy it.

how did this whole "obsession" with this series begin Axel? Some story behind it?

Gonna get another 365 downvotes for trolling AZ.

Again, this "new" title is a replica of "1001 Paintings" the same way "1001 Amazing Places" was identical to "1001 Historic Sites". My copy of Paintings is slightly old so this is updated version is most welcome in my shelf. Sadly however, it looks like the 1001-publisher did not release any new titles this autumn which of course is immensely disappointing :(

I finished "1001 Voluptuous Ladies You Must Inseminate Before They Die" this summer and it was pretty good, a bit dry though. Looking for a more juicy project now.

"1001 Cringe Posts You Must Read Before You Die"

My post is good bro.
-
Ironically over half of Alec M.'s posts (from pre-2016) would belong in that book.

I always choose these testosterone boosters (https://www.wtkr.com/brand-spotlight/best-testosterone-boosters) and finished "1001 Voluptuous Ladies You Must Inseminate Before They Die" this summer and it was pretty good, a bit dry though. Looking for a more juicy project now.
I hope that you've read the "1001 VDs to look for" before you got to that one bro.

1001 ways to retire from GE / DP...

"1,001 Golf Holes to play..." sounds interesting.
Do you know if they include any "unplayable" holes, like at Augusta National? Only a member or Masters invitee could play there.
-
Yes, Augusta National Golf Club Hole No. 1, No. 10, No. 11, No. 12 and No. 13.
-
Hole #1 sucks, Hole #10 also sucks... 11, 12 and 13 are good, but it should certainly include 15, 16, and 18.
I very much question the author of this book.

for a noob like myself this was a nice read: https://thegolfnewsnet.com/jayflemma/2017/04/08/5-hardest-holes-augusta-national-golf-club-104535/
i'd love a youtube series on the 1001 greatest golf holes if something like that existed..
