I know some of the guys here played Splatoon quite heavily when it first came out. I quite late to the game but have been enjoying it.
Matchups for ranked mode though, I just can't figure out. I tore through the first few ranks and wound up getting stuck at B+. I'd win a match, lose a match, win, lose for hours.
Finally just bumped out into A-. Now undoubtedly I could be playing better (I typically have a high kill count but a high death count too since I'm right in the thick of it) but sometimes it seems like my teammates are morons. For example, once recently we were playing Moray Towers, capture the zones and I spent a good portion of the match holding the enemies' zone by myself. 16 kills, 4 deaths, and yet my 3 teammates somehow couldn't even manage to take over our zone from the one or two guys who kept attacking it.
Or rainmaker, and I've cleared a huge path in front of the guy holding it and he refuses to move forward.
And I seemingly keep getting paired with teammates who stand at the spawn point for half the match, only to join in the latter half. Making a sandwich? I dunno.
Some matches, it seems like I'm the only one who cares about the objective. A sniper teammate might have 1 kill, 0 deaths. I've actually seen a teammate spraying ground behind our spawn point. Hopefully to build up his special but the way some of these guys play I wouldn't wonder if he forgot he wasn't in turf war...
That's not to say there are much better players than I, but the teamwork here is generally pathetic.

If you want to see something epic about team coordination etc. Goose and I along with 2 other speedrunners did a ranked mode "speedrun" getting from a new account to S rank in 4ish hours

I'd definitely watch through some of that...if it were still available :(
I'm sure that's the benefit of doing squad ranked vs regular ranked.
I wonder too if it has changed, i.e., has it become harder to rank up due to players being better all around? Has it become easier due to good players moving on and it becoming saturated with mediocre (but dedicated) players? I routinely saw Level 50 players in B-.
I need to see some decent teamwork to restore my faith in humanity.
