If you go 1 second faster on any level, your end time will be at least a second faster.

Actually believe it or not there are 'tricks' you can use to save 1s on every level. This is why my Archives 0:53 fail is a 0:53 even though it looks like an ordinary 0:54 with just a .2 timesave on the open door. I believe this is what Sam is referring to.
