Title: TNS: The-elite Notification System (SMS for WRs)

Ace and I had an idea a few months ago about a system that would notify players via SMS about new WRs or other conditions that could be met (high points, bops etc). However back then that needed some enhancements on the-elite's RSS feed (which I eventually implemented too and Thingy approved). I got back to development eventually and finished a version that notifies WRs only because it was just easier. It is deployed and working with a "trial" Twilio (API for SMS and other related stuff), and only my number has been added to the database.

This is not the best idea that one could have but rather a cool side project that was useful to practice some python stuff. If you guys find this useful we can add some enhancements and etc.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in getting SMSs just ping me on discord with your phone #. You'd need to confirm a SMS sent by Twilio (because it is a trial account) and after that I just do a quick insert in the database and it's good to go. Of course this is like a beta version so some bugs could happen.

Will likely share the code too at some point.

As an example, I've artificially modified the "last WR" reference so I could get some notifications for testing: screenshot (https://ibb.co/v1tYkh3)

Since our trial account has ended we were forced to add funds to the twilio account. I've added $20 which was the mininum. That should be enough for a few months considering the average WR activity and number of people subscribed :kappa:

So all we need now is the phone number (no sms verification beforehand) so you can just send me your phone # through a private message here or whatever. Also any donation would be appreciated :nesquik: I'm paying through my paypal account (vitorbmiranda@gmail.com).

* In case you're concerned about data being leaked and etc, only I have access to the server and the phone numbers are encrypted in the database.

Post by: vitorr on September 29, 2019, 10:11:20 am: m8s I'm disabling the "auto recharge" option for Twilio (SMS platform). I have been charged another $10 this month and I had to spend $30 on my own until now (brazilian money is 4 to 1 btw). I don't mind paying a few bucks here and there but it is getting way too high. The current balance will probably be enough until the end of the year ($19) BUT we have a big unhoard coming in that will likely make the funds go down to zero faster than that.

So to keep this running I'd appreciate some donations (vitorbmiranda@gmail.com @ paypal) :v

Post by: vitorr on April 03, 2020, 05:29:36 pm: I've disabled the service a while ago after some weird bug that made a WR message get sent like 100+ times. Since we have periodic Twitter updates it's not as necessary, and SMS costs way too much IMO. Most of the donation values got drained out in the past months. I play to work on something else for the community soon, though, but I'm kinda like completely short on spare time recently.
