Following the success of MOAM 1 (https://forums.the-elite.net/index.php?topic=22889.0), everyone seems pretty keen to start discussing plans for MOAM 2. There have been a lot of ideas floating around, but I'd like to have a place to consolidate them so everyone can contribute.
Things that need to be decided:
- WHERE to hold the event.
Consider convenience of travel, proximity to Eliters, cost of living, climate, etc.
- WHEN to hold it
Consider time to plan/budget, ability to secure time off from work/school, weather, etc. The only assumption here is "Some time in 2020"
- WHAT type of venue to have it in
BNB? Hotel? Eliter's house? Cave?
- HOW MUCH should individuals be expected to budget for this?
MOAM 1, housing came about to be around ~$280 per person for the week NOT factoring in money raised from MOAMathon.
- WILL there be a marathon to raise money? (MOAMathon 3/ECM 2) If so, WHEN?
Please post your general thoughts below. If you feel strongly about a particular place/time/venue, please put together a pitch for everyone to read and consider.

WHERE:
Either somewhere near to the most eliters in USA or where we can get an insane place for our money
WHEN:
Mid summer when everyone is off school and the weather is good for outdoor activities
WHAT TYPE:
Big ass lake house, somewhere with a lot of space to do outdoor shit like VA meet but probably bigger
HOW MUCH:
I think $300~ is fine PP for housing
I am more than happy to organize MOAMATHON 2 for this and do it some months before like 3/4?

Location:
I would like to OFFICIALLY lock in my vote for Maryland. There are a ton of eliters nearby (Me,Randy,Qwec,Tyler,Walrus,Josh<CRT MadMan>,swiss, gus, ace, ben,BK), the climate is fairly temperate except for in the extreme months (snowstorm nearly trapped kev b and apeture in the state indefinitely and lastly Ace will be in maryland, easily the most desired eliter to get to a meet considering his status as an actual human is still unknown to this day.
When:
Summer makes the most sense, but we kind of blew it, unless all of this comes together within the next few days and gets locked in for late august, but theres no chance we can plan a meet in under a month, so any time of the year works tbh
What type of venue: an Airbnb makes the most sense
Price:
$250-300 a head seems fair

Anywhere outside of USA makes it a thousand times easier for me to travel to. (I'm likely to get completely denied access for reasons I have explained in discord)
Seriously, enough with the DC area meets, yeah they are convienent for a number of people, but you guys that live around there get to hang out almost any time you want already.
Best alternative is somewhere around Toronto.
Edit: Basically, I dont even want to deal with the US border at all, so count me out unless it's somewhere else. I'd rather go to Australia, or the UK, or even Japan.

Agreed with this, feel like a meet in the midwest area would be a more ideal location for this next meet. Wouldn't be completely opposed to the meet not being in the US either.
Summer 2020 sounds like a perfect time to hold it as well.
A lake house as some people have suggested sounds keen, but BNB would work out as well,
A $300 budget per person seems fair. Also think another MOAMathon/ECM would be a good idea as well, those are always fun to pull off and we've made some good profits from them in the past.

Where: Somewhere in North America. I think MD/VA is a fine enough choice due to the amount of people that could turn up, however it's already plenty saturated with meets. I'd also be down for Midwest since I could tack on a trip to visit some of my family, but that's a personal reason. Travel would be reasonable for most North American eliters. The only people we'd lose are those from MD/VA not willing to travel that far, or people like me for whom both locations are far.
As for date, sometime in Summer 2020. August maybe? Max time to raise funds and plan, plus an easier time in which there are few school obligations and it would be easier to get time off work.
Venue should be an AirBNB or other rented out house.
I think $300 per person not including travel would be appropriate, if that's what last MOAM cost.

I'm down to go wherever but I'm having no hand in organizing or payrolling this one, so we might have to start fundraising pretty early.
I'm partial to the midwest US to get the most room for our money, and a BnB is probably better for our needs/wallets than a hotel.
Whoever said it should be bigger than the VA lakehouse is somewhat insane - that place can easily sleep 30
-
Im fine organizing marathons to raise money and shit but someone who knows american shit would need to book stuff but midwest seems keen to me, get bang for your buck and all that shit id suggest people start thinking about finances/saving now so we can book sooner than later

My grandparents have a beautiful lakehouse in Pennsylvania near Narrowsburg we could use. It's kind of remote (gotta get there by car) but we should be able to buy decent internet for it. It can definitely hold a dozen, possibly even more. Would be cheap though.
-
I vote for Mauritius. It's a nice place, will check off the Africa visit in my (and everyone else's) Bucket List, and we can always scour for MH370 pieces in our free time. It will cost about $2000/person MAX.
If that's not viable, then MD. However I may be wageslaving as an Intern next summer.

Lets do this ^ :pimp:
Or Toronto. :)

My own opinion:
MOST IMPORTANT THINGS UPFRONT:
Summer 2020, at a LARGE vacation rental (designed for 25-30 people) with VERY GOOD internet. Not in an urban area, but no more than 1.5 hours from a good airport and no more than 30 minutes from a population center.
As far as the geographic area, US is the most bang-for-your-buck as (realistically) we'll get the most people involved that way. There are two major contenders in my eyes (but my opinions are no more valid than anyone except Joey's!):
US Northeast (DC/MD/NOVA)
Pros: Has the most locals; very airport-dense; won't be too hot during the summer; easiest/cheapest(???) travel from EU
Cons: Long travel from US West Coast; Potentially more expensive than other options; Always gets the big meets
An option would be to adventure out away from the metro areas in to more rural MD/PA/VA (maybe even NC?) but I don't know what's available. Someone more familiar with the area needs to come up with some options there.
US Midwest (St. Louis/Chicago/Indianapolis)
Pros: Easy drive for lots of Eliters; good airport coverage; lots of lakehouse-type rentals for cheap;weather will be nice in the summer; centrally located
Cons: Potentially long drive from cities with stuff to do (depending on rental); large search area (could be a pro?);
"Midwest" is a very broad net to cast. We could extend this range up in to Wisconsin and Minnesota, which may be even more favorable re: weather but less favorable for travel. Need to do some cost comparisons.
Others with a puncher's chance:
US Southeast (GA/TN/SC)
Pros: Never had a meet; Lots of good lakehouse-type rentals; cheap
Cons: ATL probably the only good international airport in the area; hot & humid; it's the south; not a ton of Eliters
Texas
Pros: Eliters there; centrally located; big airport hubs; can probably find vacation rentals pretty cheap
Cons: HOT during the summer; REALLY HOT; Probably a deal breaker by itself tbh
US West Coast (CA)
Pros: Weather will be great regardless; Some Eliters already there; Probably some bomb rentals
Cons: Probably expensive and getting around might be a pain depending on rental location; worst option for EU and CA travel; no one is driving except locals

As much as I'd love it to be in Texas, I think it's only me, Niiro, and Austin in the whole state. Although on the plus side there are lots of cheap lakehouse rentals and whatnot nearer big cities like Austin and San Antonio. As well I think the heat is a bit overblown, but that could just be me.
I also agree re: Midwest. It's so big of an area and it's probably necessary to cut that down further. Huge difference between STL/Chicago/Indy and MW's place out in the sticks of Michigan.
-
I think the heat in Texas is a bit overblown too - it's been over 100 heat index and humid as fuck here in Maryland for the past week
As long as the place has good A/C it's fine
-
I'll put my vote in for Midwest because I'd be most likely to attend if that was the case :v
-
Same as what harry proposed pretty much.
-
I'm also gonna put in my vote for the Midwest (Illinois/Wisconsin?) just because I'd be able to bring a lot more stuff like TVs and PC if it's within a reasonable driving distance from Chicago. I only have two CRTs right now but I'd be able to get a hold of several more by the time this comes around.

Midwest

Always open to hosting in my brand new speed mansion, open Sept 1 2019! (note, internet is just about worthless - would be an offline oldschool meetup prob). Infinite space/privacy. Dyckesville, WI (no that's not a joke).

This ^ lol poor Ambo
But holy shit there's an idea!

Bump
Also, I’m going to selfishly suggest the end of may because that would be the most likely time for me to make it. But would be nice to see more planning regardless.
-
West Coast would mean nobody in Europe would attend probably. I recommend midwest just so it's not DC area again. People from Canada could also fly down easier
-
Midwest seems good.
Massachusetts is also fun :azn:
-
I don’t care where it is. Chicago area sounds good and I really need to get out there to try the pizza and that huge arcade! Only thing is if I’m flying I won’t be able to bring much. But the cost of a van rental is more than the cost of a plane ticket. :)
-
Resurrecting this thread now that we're taking a more serious look after MOAMathon 2.
The Chicago area is the near-100% choice. Working from that assumption, what are peoples' feelings on an ideal location? In the city townhouse (think MOAM1) or out of town lakehouse (think VA)? Any specific sites in Chicago you feel we should be close to?
-
Town lake house would be pretty awesome. Probably have like retreat/camping feel to it. It would probably be cheaper than somewhere in the city, albeit more of a hassle to get to if it’s far from a city or town.
-
I think somewhere in the city would probably more convenient just because of the public transportation. For anyone who can't be there the whole week, that would be more convenient. As well, I think that having more stuff to do around would be better for sure. From what we saw, the prices weren't all that different for in-city/out-of-city regardless.
-
Again, my family has an out of town lakehouse in northeast Pennsylvania that could be used.
