Hi everyone!
Pretty much as the title states, i want to get 22 with 1.2 on PAL and i'm just now up to 1400 23s saved on my computer. That's not including hours of deleted sessions. So i thought i'd ask for some pointers on my runs. if there's something i'm doing wrong i'd like to know about it so i'm not just trying in vain. So here are some of my latest runs

the last one may or may not have had 22 potential but i had to add it because of that troll last grenade. Any help is appreciated!

22 on PAL with 1.2 is a very tight time. The only person to have achieved it that way is Ace. Even Henrik and OHMSS, the other two people to have achieved it on PAL, used 2.2. Why aren't you playing 2.2 on the level?
-
I only had old controllers with worthless sticks, so i had to play with the c-buttons. i've bought new ones now but i still go for it since i know only Ace has gotten it and looking at his run, i feel that the possibility is there, since it isn't completely perfect. and it would be pretty cool to get it

Good luck, it may take a lot of time and patience with the conditions you're under, but no reason you cant't! Let us know if you need any help.

Honestly using ammo off screen is cool enough in my books. Let's make a deal. You continue to use pal and ammo off screen, but you pick up 2.x and nail the 22 being the fourth to do so on PAL. Then as a reward you get to play other levels! What do you think, do we have a deal? Good luck

Haha i've been close too many times to give up now. Maybe when i start feeling physically ill playing the level. But i've "only" been playing it for 6 months so right now i'm fine

My advice:
-If you're going for a time this tight, try and get a better stick since it could make a difference for sure by getting tighter turns. It wouldn't matter much if you were playing a shitty stick if you were playing 2.2 but with 1.2 PAL even Ace would want a 8.5/10 or better stick. It's easy to lose at least a couple tenths due to this if the stick is bad enough, even on a short level.
-Break the barrier by getting 22 on another version or control scheme, then you can focus on 1.2 if you have nothing you'd rather play. This would only take a couple hours IMO since the runs look pretty close.
-Don't save all the 23s on your computer, you'll run out of disc space :kappa: . Aside from maybe 1-2 dozen of them, you'll never watch them again. And we already know why they weren't 22; it has everything to do with the free boost from 2.x being necessary on all but the most blessed runs. Most people would get 22 within a few hundred 23s with 2.x. I think TheTerribleChildren had around 300 dupes last week when he got it for example.
Your movement looks pretty good though, I'd say you could get 22 within an hour or two with 2.2, or take possibly another 1200 23s before getting the WR. Few people play PAL on this level, and hardly anyone continues once they cake 22 since it's been tied by 140 people and 21 isn't currently possible. More impressive and more easily achievable would be to bop Ace on SA by getting WR there once you get the Agent 22. GL though mate.

I actually got new controllers a week ago, and as you can see in very the start of my run on link #2 and #3, i'm still getting used to it haha just a bit wonky
An ntsc-j console is on it's way to my house and i have everything else i need to play it. i'm planning on playing it sometimes and i'll probably end up getting that record first, but ultimately PAL is my goal since i think it's the only somewhat notable record that i'll ever be able to get.
Maybe so but so far my computer is fine... i record in shit quality:P I thought maybe there could be another reason, like something i'm doing or not doing that loses time. I've been surprised before by this game when it comes to things that saves/doesn't save time.
Thanks! As i said i'll play some ntcs-j but ultimately PAL is my goal and if i get it on ntsc-j i'll continue to another level. But i'll still try for 22 PAL. I have gotten dozens of 7 boost endings so far, it's just about pairing it with a good start. The first half of my runs i posted i can do consistently now but i suck at the grenades. i have read tutorials but i can seem to do it right. But i can come up with runs similar to this every 10 minutes or so.
-
Do what you want but I'm gonna be honest in saying that getting it on PAL is just as irrel as getting it on anything else
-
when i said somewhat notable i didn't mean it would be big news. i'll say it like this instead: i think it's the only record i could get that only one person has gotten before, using the same means
-
i think it's the only record i could get that only one person has gotten before
That's where you are mistaken, you can do anything if you invest enough effort. Right now your effort is poorly invested.
-
1400 lmao
-
I'm going to go against the grain and strongly recommend that you ignore everything the others have said above, and keep shooting for your goal.
you're clearly skilled enough to get 22 1.2 PAL, and it'll be a big confidence boost when you manage to get it.
Also, other things will seem easier afterwards.
-
Let me just say this, literally NOBODY will care about your 1.2 PAL Runway 22.
But that's fine. That's not why we do this. It's for us. If that's what you want, keep going. But, (like almost all of speedrunning) it is a huge waste of time, so don't feel bad if you decide to give up. I'm rooting for you though, pal.
-
Thanks Luke, i appreciate that! Yeah i'm definitely still going for it. I mean, i still actually enjoy playing the level
-
Literally some of my closest friends would care alot about this record:P
But you're right, we are ultimately doing it for ourselves and that's cool too. To me it's not a huge waste of time though because i always stop playing when i don't feel like it, so keep rooting!
-
The irony that people say it's a waste of time or effort....
If a person wants to play the games a certain way, let them.
I'm with Luke on this one. Go for it and get it if you want to achieve the time that way.
-
try improve your first grenade, full lookdown strat helps, don't use tiny bit of lookdown till third grenade in first volley of 3, and second volley only throw 2 as the third will not boost you and only cause lag, then hope for a guard boost, though 2.x or ntsc will help stupidly
-
Good job mate, you're a legend!
-
Congrats
-
Thanks mates:D
-
Even if you didn't do it on PAL, having a 1.2 22 is still a fairly exclusive club
-
1.2 22 is very tight. well done!
-
Yea even though it wasn't on PAL i'm still really happy with it! Will probably try out some other levels now. Thanks for the support guys!
-
ABSOLUTE CHAMPION PROUD OF YOU BUD
-
Thanks man:) hopefully it's just the beginning!
-
Mate you're a FUCKING legend! The haters can go eat a battery!
-
MAAATE!! You dug up this old beauty of a thread huh? haha thanks, fellow legend!
-
Congrats and welcome to the SA 22 club :)
-
Thanks! Scandinavian SA 22 club for the win, dude;)
-
Are you still intending to go for 1.2 PAL?
-
It's still unfinished business and it does get to me. But, as far as i know, a 7 boost 22 on PAL 1.2 demands a run on par or just slightly faster than a 5 boost SA 22 (ntsc 2.x of course). Considering the fact that i only got ~120 23s on SA, a PAL 1.2 might be a bit more challenging. At least to me. But i will play it from time to time when i'm not going for another record!
